Bren Goes for it Again

Election year looms over Nedalia again, and the main story, ofcourse, is President Bren's intention of running for a third term. To clarify, the Nedalian constitution makes it clear that candidate who receives the most amount of votes directly from the people (popular vote) will serve as President, no exceptions. Serving President Andrew Bren can hypothetically run for President as many times as he wants, and if elected, can serve as many times as he is elected.

President Bren announced yesterday that he would be placing his name on the candidate list, immediately making him the heavy favorite considering his unwavering popularity on mainland Nedalia (the Western Territories, however, is a different story.) However, the past years has seen an increase in the popularity of the Reform Party, who have yet to release their candidate.

The Reform Party originally started in Aanjar, and their first political victory came when they defeated the Nedalia Liberal Party in the race for the highly important and symbolic mayoral race of the country's 2nd largest city. Since then, they have gained support from citizens isolated by the seemingly autocratic NLP, and also from those who had grown frustrated by the Labor Party's lack of ambition.

The Labor Party was the 2nd party founded in Nedalia, shortly after the election of President Bren. Despite making alot of commotion and garnering the support of the blue-collar workers in and around Kafra, the noise slowly died out and the party has been losing ground ever since. It is unlikely they will make much of a fuss this elections, but it is rumored that the Reform Party is trying to work a deal with the Labor Party because it is expected that any votes the Labor Party will get will be taken from potential Reform Party votes.

The final and trickiest part of the election process concerns the Western Territories. The highly controversial Western Territories Nationalist Front will be placing its leader, Phillipe Morrier, on the Presidential candidate list, and he is expected to garner quite a few votes in the growingly unstable region. Western Territories Governer Donny Stack (NLP) has denounced Morrier's intention of running for President, claiming that a "terrorist should never, and could never, become President of the Free Lands of Nedalia." How the rest of the candidates will campaign in the region remains a mystery.

The Nedalian government has welcomed any and all AO media to cover the election process with releases and comments of their own. (OOC: You can write whatever you wish, to who your country wants to see win the election, to press releases from your own media.)

Candidates Announced; Political Games Begin

The official list of candidates of the upcoming presidential elections have been announced by all parties, with the press stating that this will be the hottest election race in the history of Nedalia. President Andrew Bren will head the Nedalia Liberal Party list again, as the serving president attempts to go for a 3rd straight term.

The President is the favorite among almost all experts, but with a record 4 candidates announcing themselves this year, competition will definitely be stronger than previously recorded. Nedalia has never been served by any president other than Andrew Bren, who has taken the country out of isolation to regional powerhouse. He led the country into 2 wars, with the latest being the invasion of former Latao, leading to the capture of the Western Territories and all of its resources. The economy went from the UN Ranking of Average all the way to All-Consuming, but a recent minor recession has brought the ranking to its current standing at Powerhouse. The UN Rankings for Civil Liberties has never fallen below Very Good, and, save for the period of war against Latao, the same can be said about Political Freedoms. The major argument against Bren and his administration has been the phenomenal tax imposed on the Nedalian residents. Even with promises that he was going to work to reduce them, no results have been seen yet. The growing image that of aristocracy that has plagued the administration has also been a thorn in their side. That being said, the Nedalian government was ranked the least corrupt in all of the AO when the report was released by the UN recently.

The Reform Party will be represented by Yasmine Dala'a, the first female candidate to ever step to the plate in Nedalia. It is unknown how the people will respond to that issue, but none of the experts predict that it will present the Reform Party much of a problem. Dala'a has already said the the first thing to go will be the massive tax Nedalians are being forced to pay, and more focus will go on healthcare, education, spirituality, and commerce instead of the "ludicrous" sum of K17 trillion that is spent on the military. She has promised to strip the government of its "autocratic stance", and bring the power back to the people.

The Labour Party's candidate will be Howard Dollanti, their most outspoken and controversial figure. Many analysts are impressed with move, claiming this was exactly what the Labour Party needed. Its support has been dwindling as of late, with the main complaint being its lack of ambition, even being called boring and unimaginative. Dollanti will definitely steer up some trouble, which in this case, wont be a bad thing. The Labour Party have always been known for their support for all welfare programs, but insist that no funding should go to such "useless" causes such as spirituality.

Lastly, the Western Territories Nationalist Front leader Phillipe Morrier, the most controversial of all candidates. Although branded as an official terror to society by the NLP dominated government, Nedalian law states than anyone who is a citizen of the nation can run for presidency. The WTNF have made it clear that they wish to begin the process of seperation between Nedalia and the Western Territories, but Morrier insists that as president, he will not "alienate the main Nedalian population as the current government has done the people in the Western Territories." Morrier will expect to receive most, if not all of his votes, from unhappy citizens in the Western Territories, but it is unlikely he will have much of an effect on any of the candidates. Governer Donny Stack has asked for Western Territories Nedalians to not consider the "monster of a human" in their candidate list come election day.

It was a rather relaxed atmosphere in the reception room of the palace. The Patriarch, along with his cabinet, had met there to have a rather informal meeting and tie up a few loose ends before calling it a day. Sitting in his navy-blue leather recliner, the Patriarch Khara turned on the big screen as he listened to his ministers talk amongst themselves about various concerns.

Michael Arani, Minister of Defense, was bringing up his usual request of increasing the armed forces size, which in turn got him into a heated debate with Jennifer Calari, the Minister of Education. She always saw a cut in her budget when Arani requested an increase in his. Danielle Uram and Laurence Amar where working on coordinating the Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs ministries to put out the good word to tourists of the region and perhaps get some nice revenue headed their way. The ministers of health, commerce, communication, and transportation where busy looking at their notes and occassionaly looking up to confer with one or the other.

This all meshed into a blur for the Patriarch as he surfed through the various channels, trying to find something to break the monotony of the endless prattle of his ministers. About twenty channels later he found it.

A tall, rather fit looking gentlemen, wearing a blue suit with a grey tie, stode outside the Nedalian capitol building.

"...seems as though President Bren, the incumbent in this election, is the favored to win here. His policies, especially in regards to the economy, have made him popular with the average voter in The Free Land. However, the president has also garnered some heat from the populace for his increase on taxes the past few years. His biggest competitor in this race, Yasmin Dala'a, has vowed to lower the taxes if elected. That could provide for some interesting leverage with the voters.

Finally, Western Territories Nationalist leader Phillipe Morrier is seen by many as the most volatile element of this election. Given the candidates links to suspect terrorist organizations in the Nedalian Western Territories, some are left wondering how it is he can even be allowed to run for office.

As always, we here at KNN will keep you posted, back to you Bill."

Khara turned the television off and turned his attention back to his mnisters, who had suprsingly ceased bickering and had been watching the newscast as well.

"So what do you think?" asked Danielle.

"While I am loathe to make an official government stance on someone elses election..." Khara started. "I do see many benefits with Bren retaining his presidency. We've developed a strong relationship with his administration and it would be a shame to see that go to waste because of an election."

"What about that Western Territories nutjob?" asked Laurence Amar.

"I wouldn't be to worried about him. He seems to be to much of an extreemist to garner in large-scale support from the Nedalian people. In truth, I think Bren will win this one. People more or less seem to be content with the way he's been handling things. It will be interesting to see how this all develops however."

"I thought democracies placed limits on how often somebody could run though?" asked Gabriel Furo, Minister of Transportation.

"They often do. The Nedalians appear to be a peculiarity amongst the average democratic nation today, in that allow a candidate to serve as often as the people find him worthy of serving." Khara paused and smiled a bit. "Perhaps we have more in common with them than I had previously thought."

QUOTE (Lamoni @ Feb 11 2006, 04:08 AM)
The Free Republic would like it's stance in support of President Bren in his re-election campaign to be known.

"Oh, I love it," Isaac chuckled, reading over the international news ticker, "that might as well read: 'Lamonian Government likes interfering in other nation's political processes, with poor puncutation, too', classic."

"Who's going to win that one then?"

"Bren. Again. Of course." Isaac replied. "You don't need to follow international relations to know that one."

Bren Administration Lowers Taxes; Opponents Not Impressed

President Andrew Bren announced tax cuts on all sectors today in his national address, calling it "a preview of what was to come in the upcoming years following his re-election." Experts have been saying it was never a matter of if, but more a matter of when. It has been known for quite some time that this will be the Bren's administration attempted knockout punch, but there had been debates on when they would deliver it. The question, it seems, has finally been answered.

Bren announced that the high tax of recent years was a neccessity to get the Nedalian economy off the ground, and that it is up and running in full force, tax cuts were imminent because the "NLP (Nedalia Liberal Party) had the people of the country in mind, first and foremost." The tax cuts, ofcourse, coincided with the fact that the elections are less than a month away, something that all analysts have called a brilliant piece of planning by the President. The NLP, however, has denied any claims suggesting this was part of their campaign, saying the timing was merely a coincidence.

His political opponents, however, were not impressed by the President's political game. Labour Party candidate Howard Dollanti came on the record minutes after the national address, saying that the move "was predictable and see-through." He also claimed that the President was trying to fool the public into voting him back into office with "false promises and fake love." He asked the Nedalian people to think towards the future, and not be moved by the politicals games of the day. The Reform Party were not available for comment, but it is believed they are planning their counter-attack, as candidate Yasmine Dala'a prepares to go on Late Night with Ahmad Gharameh tomorrow night.

Election Day Passes; Bren Expected Victor

KAFRA, NEDALIA - Election Day passed peacefully after threats from several Western Territories factions turned out to be nothing but words, even in the volatile 'state' itself. The country shared some intense weeks before Election Day, amidst ongoing fueds between the warring factions in the Western Territories which threatened to spill over to mainland Nedalia in the form of car bombs. But the day passed peacefully, with the army on high alert in Nedalia's only 'state', as the citizens of the country came out to record the highest turn out on record.

Official results are not yet in, but it is likely that President Bren will receive anywhere from 45%-55% of the total votes, making him the clear winner in this contest of candidates. The only other candidate who had a remote chance of making an impression was Reform Party candidate Yasmine Dala'a, who is expected to receive about 25%-30% of the total votes.

If President Andrew Bren wins the vote, he will continue for his 3rd consecutive term, which many analysts are saying will be his last, considering his age advancing age. It is unclear how old Nedalia's only President is, but it believed to be over 75.

Official results are expected tomorrow.
