Levine looked intently at President Stone as he listened to the conversation. The Sarzonian Space Force had limited use since its tungsten rod-carrying satellites often ensured space superiority over most of Sarzonia's opponents. However, in extreme cases, the Sarzonians could break out their secret weapon, the Belknap class vessel.

That was a deep secret; in fact, only Praetonian government officials were briefed on the details of the Belknap project. Levine knew that his government would have his hyde if he revealed too much about the project, but he knew his government already had a trump card they could employ against the SAAS if they needed it.

"My government already has a rather advanced space programme," Levine said. "We believe that if the SAAS were foolish enough to launch an attack against any SDL country, we could make Tiberius Starblayde breathe fire faster than you can say "Rod from God."

Levine peered at his notes and spoke further.

"Sarzonia just launched several hunter-killer satellites they purchased from Hyland-Nikolaas Industries. We believe that would be an excellent way for us to counter would-be threats from the SAAS. Even if they're never used, their value as a deterrent can't be discounted."
