AO Factbook: Nova Britannicus

The Loose City-State Association of Nova Britannicus was originally part of the British Empire along with neighbouring Starblaydia, and going back even further than that, was also conquered by the Romans as part of their Empire.

When Great Britain withdrew it's colonial grip over this part of the Region, Starblaydia formed itself into a new nation, while each of the sprawling cities to the North closed up and became independant. Originally the Northern-most Starblaydi city of Penningworth was one of these, but was soon swallowed up by the newborn nation.

Soon the cities began to realise they could not function on their own. Before long they allied themselves with each other, fighting the occasional minor battle to determine the outcome of their minor squabbles.

After years of integration, improved links and sharing of democratic ideals, the City-States formed themselves into a nation, albeit a not-very-unified one. In deference to both their previous and ancient rulers, who had dragged them kicking and screaming into the first and twentieth centuries, they named their nation Nova Britannicus. Like their neighbours, Starblaydia, they use the Imperial Golden Eagle in their flag, along with the Union Jack on a dark blue field.

Each of the cities elects its own Mayor, who form a Council of Nova Britannicus, with the Leadership of that Council rotating every two years.

Taken as a whole, Nova Britannicus is a melting pot of different ideals, agendas and systems. The right to free Education and Healthcare goes arm-in-arm with a staunchly pro-business attitude. Some say that removing the policies of the left would turn the Association into a paradise for business, trade and economics. Other claim that removing the Capitalism from the agenda would produce a liberal paradise. Together, however, a strong mix of ideals teeters in the political Centre.

A quite strong economy is led by the high-tech Car Manufacturers, who use their technical wizardry to find the perfect racing machines in the Forumla Britain class, the fastest possible racing cars that swarm around old airfields on almost any given weekend somewhere in the Association. In between the huge cities are vast tracts of farmland, grazing billions of head of cattle, with the cows producing huge amounts of milk for all the different dairy products that the Association produces. Each city is rightly proud of its own individual cheese, which each assumes to be better than its rivals. The Pound Sterling is worth a little less than a US Dollar, though with a less convoluted economic policy the currency could be a lot stronger.
