(OOC: This is, by no means, precognition on the part of the Myrtannian government. Just an assumption based on negative experiences, combined with an opportunistic nationalist President.)

President Porfirio Trahin was a busy man, not the least because of his constant work on ensuring that the neutrality of the United Isles was preserved. Now that he'd convinced the Congress to stay out of the war, he intended to make sure that it remained that way. He was sitting in the Triangular Office with a Foreign Affairs sub-ministry official who was an expert on the Strategic Defense League and its tenuous relationship with the UIM. Specifically on the edgy-at-best relations between Myrtannia and the Lowland Clans.

"So tell me, what should we expect from the Alliance of Nine States now that Myrtannia has declared neutrality?" Trahin asked the aid.

"As you may know, Mr. President, the Clans are extremely touchy about this kind of thing, especially now that they've got two SAAS powers coming after them. Despite what Myrtannia has always maintained as a condition of its SDL membership, they'll probably over-react," the aid answered.

"Don't they always?" Trahin chuckled, but then was deadly serious, "So they'll take action to 'punish' us for simply living up to our word? For not involving ourselves in a war that is not ours?"

"Most likely. If Holton were in office, we'd overreact too.. but truth be told, I trust you more in this situation, Mr. President," the aid responded, "We may be able to remain militarily neutral while staying in the SDL. If not, we do have other options. I'd expect a lot of public outrage in the streets of the United Isles if the Clans try to punish us for looking to our own national interests."

"Well, I'll just have to hit the Clans before they can hit us, won't I?" Trahin grinned in a way that showed he had an idea. Anyone who was close to the man knew he'd been waiting for an opportunity to avenge what he saw as an insult to the entire nation by the Lowland Clans at Myrtannia's first SDL meeting. A beat later, he picked up his phone and called up Vice President Akbar-Maheed and told him, "Mohammed, get a hold of the ASPIRE nations. We may need to change alliances soon. Just get something going in case the arrogant fools of the SDL act against us."

******************

Not long afterward, President Trahin stepped out onto the balcony overlooking the Halosen Grand Mall. A huge crowd had turned out when they heard that their President was going to make a public address. It was time to launch a pre-emptive PR campaign before any action against Myrtannia was taken by the less enlightened nations of the SDL.

"My fellow countrymen, today I have come to speak to you on a matter that may soon arise. We are, as you all know, members of the Strategic Defense League, which is led by our longtime friends, the Free Republic of Lamoni. This organization was never a perfect fit for our beloved isles, but seemed to be the best fit when we entered this region. At least to our now former President Holton."

"However, there is a nation amongst those in the Strategic Defense League that has never been a friend of Myrtannia. When President Holton spoke of Myrtannian intent to stay out of war should conflict arise on a regional scale between the SDL and SAAS, purely in the interest of what is best for the United Isles as well as logistically speaking, this nation I speak of mocked and derided him. In that, they mocked and derided us as a nation. Our armed forces are only intended for peacekeeping and self-defense. To see them shipped overseas and used against a nation that has declared no intent to make war on us would be foolish and a betrayal of the trust of our brave soldiers, sailors, and pilots."

"Yet even after explaining our fervent beliefs many times over, this nation I speak of sought to insult us before the other Strategic Defense League nations. This nation I speak of is now involved in the major conflict which he have feared for so long. This nation is the Lowland Clans," Trahin continued, and his mention of the Alliance of Nine States drew boos and hisses from the massed crowd, "Now, we have tried to be reasonable with the SDL. We have participated in the official SDL action against the Rightist threat to our southwest. Do we have their respect for that? More importantly, did that nation lift a finger to assist us when our national security was threatened by the Rightists? I think you will find that the answer is decidedly 'no'."

More curses, boos and hisses from the crowd, and Trahin went on, "Now that we are acting in our national interests, in order to protect our beloved isles from a conflict that will devistate this region, we must also fear retalition from our so-called 'allies'. I use that word in its loosest possible sense. For as I have already reminded you, the Lowland Clans have never been our friends, and we have had limited trade with them. Only a dozen Myrtannians live in the Lowland Clans, and I am sure that they can sympathize with our position. President Holton informed them of our intention to remain neutral in exactly this situation upon our acceptance into the League. Should we be punished for acting on that long declared intent?"

From the still growing mass came shouts of 'NO!'; angry shouts at that. Reflecting their anger, the President continued, "I would like to refer anyone who frowns upon our decision to remain neutral to Article II of the Strategic Defense League treaty: 'At all times does the Strategic Defense League recognize the sovereignty of its member-nations. The League cannot tell its member-nations how they should conduct their affairs. Forcing us into war would be a violation of Article II. Article I states that, 'Any decision to take the League to war must be brought to a vote by the member-nations and succeed by a majority. Those who may not wish to go to war may support the effort in some other way than by the sending of armed persons into conflict.' There are two problems with the current situation."

"Firstly, the decision to take the League as a whole to war has never been brought to a vote by the member nations or suceeded by a majority. Secondly, Myrtannia does not, and will not, go to war. With the enemies so far away from the United Isles, there is nothing the government or military of Myrtannia can do to assist the League members under attack. We can offer moral and some monetary support, but only if there is no risk of a reciprocal declaration of war by those enemies," Trahin continued to explain, "As the Protectorate of Starblaydia and Empire of Footballia have never - I repeat, never - threatened the sovereignty or stability of the United Isles of Myrtannia, we have no reason to enter into armed conflict with them. Such an act would violate the constitution of the United Isles, which we would not tolerate."

"I cannot guarantee that the Alliance of Nine States will be foolish enough to take what they would call 'corrective action' against us, but we must be prepared for anything. If such a demand is insisted upon by their government, we SHALL NOT TOLERATE IT. The SDL is not the SAAS, and we did not sign the Lavingrad Pact, which requires its member states to declare war if one member does so," Trahin concluded, "So I urge all Myrtannians to pray that our so-called 'allies' see the light, and to prepare for a change in the winds should the worst happen. Our national motto has always been, 'Of the people, By the people, For the people'. Those people are the Myrtannian people, and rest assured that your government will never betray your trust by enganging us in conflicts that do not concern us. Good night, my fellow Myrtannians. May God bless Myrtannia, and may the United Isles always stand strong."

Trahin's exit from the balcony was met by a huge ovation and corresponding applause from the crowd. It was obvious to anyone watching (and the speech had deliberately been broadcast live across the region) that Myrtannians would not let the interests of one nation govern their own decisions. Later in the day, Myrtannian news would show people with anti-Lowland Clans signs in their windows, cursing that country, and other less savory acts. In his home, Sean Holton shook his head and turned the TV off. This was going to be a bumpy ride.

"Get those goddamn reserve fighters in the air!" Hierro screamed. The first aerial combat had taken place and both sides' pilots were out of missiles, each withdrawing to their carriers. "Keep the spent ones in the air until the reserves are off the deck, I need warshots in the air, now!"

Radar operators began to know what the word 'overtime' meant as they tried to keep track of what was steadily becoming the fullest sky they had ever seen. It seemed that every second brought a new fireball in the sky, a 'Nomcat' or a Limassol driver finding himself plunging toward the sea in a fiery steel coffin. The operators wondered if that swish piece of kit, AFAS.net, was giving the Allied States' guys an easier time.

There were more prevailant threats out there, of course. Anti-Air Destroyers of the Leveller class swarmed around the fifteen Starblaydi carriers, they knew that if the air battle was lost, it would soon be hell at sea. Assuming it wasn't already, of course. Admiral Hierro had two cards up his sleeve that the situation now required should be played.

"Seawolf Skippers," he commanded, "If it's big, blue and floats, sink it."

Thirty submarines were hiding under the waves around the fleets, and with the positions of Starblaydi ships well known, it was a simple question of load, point and shoot. The Starblaydi doctrine had never been to prioritise targets unless an ambush or counter-attack was suspected, so in a battle like this, with two forces arrayed and little outside influence to contend with, the overriding maxim of all Starblaydi warfare since the invention of the musket was put into practice.

See it, shoot it.

Frigates, Destroyers, Cruisers, whatever. When they came in effective range, they were fired at. Each commander had his own tactic, whether to fire from far out or close in, muiltiple torpedoes at once or one after another at different targets from different angles. Sub commanders were a strange breed, one to which Starblaydi naval tactics pandered - you never knew how a commander was going to attack. With thirty boats in and around the area, seemingly uncontested by ASN under-sea rivals, they had a vicious hunting ground.

"Big guns," Hierro yelled his next order, "target their Cruisers and destroy!"

The Trimaran Heavy Battlecruisers, Tiberius Starblayde and Subjugator, each turned ninety degrees and fired their six main guns into the flower of the A1 Fleet, massive shells falling admist the anti-ship contingent. Azure-class Battleships, too, deafened sailors on neighbouring ships as their triple-turret guns belched flame and smoke and noise, ballistic paths of death towards the ASN fleet.

Elsewhere, Starblaydia's screening ships did not fare well. Over half the Corvettes, Tyrion class, were effectively disabled, at best a barely-floating, light weapon platform. They had done they jobs well, however, largely keeping the deadly Firestorm missiles off the larger ships. Four Destroyers, three light Cruisers and seven Frigates, however, had smoke and flame pouring from their decks, three exploding in massive detonations that seemingly shook the sea as their magazines caught fire.

"Arsenal subs, Sir?" The commander asked his Admiral.

"Not yet, it's our trump card," Hierro replied, "and I'm not playing it yet."

The Myrtannian news conference was broadcast live on Bazalonian Television and it wasn't long before various media comments about the potential response of the Bazalonian Government, the government of The Lowland Clans as well as the other members of the SDL. Speculation of a unilateral declaration of immediate expulsion of Myrtannia from the SDL. However the government reaction came reasonably soon.

In his own press conference that was under heavy security Alvin Reckno, the current Prime Minister of Bazalonia started his conference....

"Oh, far too quickly Halosen forgets it's near past. Atheistic Right being a nation that had no respect for human life for their own citizens let alone respect for anybody elses. This crazed regime had confirmed nuclear capabilities and it was in Myrtannia's direct interest to act against the force of chaos. When the Military of the nation mobilised and headed towards Myrtannia it was not Myrtannians that stopped the progress but the military forces of the SDL members. Lamonian, Khazaronian as well as Bazalonian Military that formed a well secured defensive line preventing Atheistic Right military getting to Myrtannia.

The SDL was there in Myrtannia's hour of need but when a member of the SDL calls upon Myrtannia for Aide Myrtannia turned it's back not only on The Lowland Clans but as well on the SDL as a group as well as particularily Bazalonia, Lamoni and Khazaron who Myrtannia owes a debt of gratitude to. Allies are there to be relied upon for help, whatever help may be able to be provided by the Ally wether military, intelligence or other support. Myrtannia has a duty to provide help, help that is deemed appropriate by the government, but help none the less. In this instance declaring neutrality is like signing a Non Aggression Pact with a nation then invading that nation just months later. This is a betrayl most foul, not only on the nation that needs our help but also all those that are living upto it's moral as well as legal duties to aid a nation that is being attacked.

''This is not our war' is dangerous sentiment and totally against the concept of Alliance, if there an element of spite in this decision then you are only confirming the belief that Myrtannia should not have been admitted to the SDL in the first hand. The statement of the Myrtannian government can only harm the international reputation of the nation and while Myrtannian Military involvement may be out of the question there are many ways that the Myrtannians that the government of Myrtannia could of involved itself.

Though you are right in one thing, the SDL is not the SAAS. The SAAS is bound to the will of the leader of Starblaydia, Viannor. In the SDL no nation has the power and influence in it's processes that Starblaydia has in the SAAS. The SDL is a Defensive League where concentrating in the defense of its members, the SAAS is an aggressive bunch of Autocrats secure in the over-estimation of their own worth. The SDL is based upon joint defense, together we are strong divided we are weak. You are weakening your own defense by attacking the foundation of the SDL

By this the Myrtannian government has shown that it does not take the agreements that it signs seriously and is only looking for short term internal political gain rather than good sound long-term policy. President Porfirio Trahin, the world is looking and judging and be assured that whatever action you take from now on will be known through-out the region and so before you act make sure you are prepared to accept the consequences of such decisions. Thank youi that is all I have to say on that topic, though a copy of this speech has been sent via our Myrtannian embassy to Halosen." and with that the speech ended and the Prime Minister was hustled back into the safety and security of his offices.

While the Yihsraeli government was awaiting diplomats' arrival at the Temple Rededication, their new Secretary of State was busy carrying out her duties as instructed by the Prime Minister. To this end, she sent the following message to the pertinent Strategic Defense League nations.

CODE
To: Governments of Lamoni, Khazaron, Nedalia, Bazalonia, and the Alliance of Nine States
From: Alaine Fitzgibbons, Secretary of State, Federation of Yihsrael

Firstly, alow me to inform you all that the current reactions of the Myrtannian government are quite troubling to us.  Porfirio Trahin may be charismatic, but he lacks a certain tact that we expect of statesmen.  However, while the United Isles intends to be neutral, we do not.

In our lands' darkest hours, SDL troops liberated this nation from Rightist oppression.  Your assistance then has not been forgotten, and we intend to return the favor now.  When you are in your hour of need, we shall answer the call just as your alliance did when the Rightists threatened the region.

To this end, the Federation of Yihsrael is offering fiscal and at least a little manpower in support of SDL operations against the aggressors of the SAAS.  We shall aid those who aided us.

Signed,
Alaine Fitzgibbons,
Secretary of State,
Federation of Yihsrael

Never one to miss a beat, Porfirio Trahin was ready to react immediately when the Bazalonian response came. He was further angered by the delivery of a matching statement from the Bazalonian embassy. However, rather than let the man make a mess of things twice, his Vice President suggested that he make the response. When Trahin consented, Vice President and acting Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Akbar-Maheed took to the press conference room.

"Good morning. My name is Mohammed Akbar-Maheed, and I am the Vice President as well as acting Minister of State and Foreign Affairs for the United Isles of Myrtannia. I am here to confirm that we have recieved the message from Bazalonia, and to clarify the Myrtannian position beyond the statements of President Trahin."

"Myrtannia will not be engaging in any military activities against the forces of the SAAS. However, the United Isles will live up to its duty to aid alliance members in another way. As of this morning, the United Isles of Myrtannia is pledging unwavering financial support of SDL actions, in order to keep the efforts going. We also pledge full medical support for our allies - Myrtannian hospitals will be open to assist wounded SDL nation citizens, and a so-called 'Nurses Battalion' will be sent to assist in the treatment of troopers of our allies. They are not military, but rather professional nurses who have volunteered their organization's services. They will take with them the crucial medical supplies needed to perform their duties. Following them will be more nurses, and with doctors mixed into their numbers in both contingents."

"We hope that these offered forms of assistance are suitable to the Strategic Defense League nations, and that we might continue to be a member of this alliance. We are open to discussing the situation further if the governments in question will only talk with us. There are many ways we would be willing to assist our allies without committing military forces."

Just then, a man in a dark suit wearing sunglasses rushed up to Akbar-Maheed and whispered in his ear. The Vice President blinked in surprise, then added, "I find it necessary to inform you that President Trahin has had a serious heart attack, and has been rushed to a Red Crescent hospital in Halosen..."

Which meant that for now, Mohammed Akbar-Maheed was acting President as well, "But again, Myrtannia will not abandon her allies now. We will join the cause in non-military manners. If war is declared upon us, we will return that declaration. Our medical support is scheduled to go to the Alliance of Nine States immediately, should their assistance be accepted."

Finally, he looked straight into the camera and spoke, "To all of our SDL allies engaged in the fight, I would like to ask this: do not take the intentions of one man to be that of the entire nation. The majority of Myrtannians are not so isolationist. Those Myrtannians are answering your call now."

Somewhere in Jhanna
The Inner Council, like most of Starblaydia, were all watching the Court Martial on television, one way or another. The sensational trial, plus each day's highlights, were beamed live around the region with comment, analysis and stern-looking reporters outside the Halls of Justice repeating verbatim what everyone already knew.

"Cry Wolf is about to hit paydirt," Lord Howard Jiminez said, muting the set for a moment, "how are our enemies from foreign parts?"

"Divided, dissenting, the usual," Lord Isaac Chisoko said, "turn it back up, what'd I miss?"

"Not much, they're about to do a re-cap."

"Then they swing?"

"You betcha." Howard replied, turning the volume back up.

Halls of Justice, somewhere else in Jhanna
Live, via satellite, internet and carrier pigeon, across Atlantian Oceania

"Defendants will rise." The Colonel in charge, Oliver Marraz, wearing in his stark black dress-uniform, glared down from his chair at the four foreign soldiers before him. They each stood, retaining as much pride as they had left in them. Colonel Marraz leaned forward.

"The four of you entered Starblaydi territory illegally, bearing prohibited weapons also smuggled illegally. Once inside Starblaydia you then proceeded, under orders of some Allied States' command structure that you have continually refused to name, to the Quercus province of Starblaydia, on the island of Aquiliana. There you did attempt to assassinate the Lady-Protector Viannor Starblayde, with afforementioned weapons.

"You failed in this endeavour, also committing the crime of illegally discharging a weapon. Soon after you were detained by Starblaydi special forces and these proceedings began. these are the facts as they have been proven during the course of this trial.

"On the charge of illegally entering Starblaydia, you are found guilty.

"On the charge of smuggling prohibited weapons into Starblaydia, you are found guilty.

"On the charge of discharging prohibited weapons, you are found guilty.

"And, finally, on the most heinous charge, of attempted murder of a prominent person, additionally by a surprise attack, as for political reasons, you are found guilty.

"For these guilty verdicts, you are sentenced to death. Sargeant Jonathan Parker, for your confession you shall be sentenced to death by firing squad. For the other three, you shall be sentenced to hang by the neck until you are dead. This court is now ajourned."

The Judge brought his gavel crashing down amid the mutterings of an entire court, press members hurrying to file their reports, cameras setting up and the general cacophony of a court with it's task done, the view swithced to a studio, with the reaction on the verdict, as part of the SCB:News Special Report.

FNA Feather - Bridge

Falcon stood at the fore of the bridge, surveying the cloudy sky from the window. Behind him the bridge crew bustled noisily. There was the distinct clicking of someone typing up a declaration of war. The Starling was firmly clamped down on the runway below, along with a squadron of Birds of Prey which were currently being spraypainted Regal Orange, as befitting their role of The Falcon's Escort.

Hack stood beside him. "Sire, the declaration has been sent. As of now we are officially at war with the SAAS. A course has been set for Lake Bekk, where we gather there is a naval battle going on."

Falcon nodded. Falcania's first act of war would be a crushing blow.

Overlord Torm XV reeled backwards as if in pain.
"These damned Rorçn are becoming a gigantic pain in the ass. They jump all these -explicitive removed-ing convoys, now they've gone and shot my Jenral. And now the -explicitive removed-ing city people are rebelling, and E-3 is completely overwhelmed. What can we do, Markalk?"

"Your majesty, I believe our interests here are best served by bringing home an Army Group. And also by calling up H and I. Frankly, we can win in The Lowland Clans without D. And here without D. But it becomes significantly harder here, whereas the difference in the east would be negligible."

"I agree with the Markalk here, sir. If need be we can send one of the reserves to the front," chimed in Xet Kopiñas.

"Then it's settled."

We in Footballia wish to inform Starblaydia that we are withdrawing Army Group D from the front.  This is due to internal conflicts which have escalated to an unpredicted height.  We hope to send a reserve group or more soon.  In the meantime, we apologize.

And as it seemed so destined, the brewing hostilities now exploded into open conflict between the Strategic Defense League and the Strategic Alliance of Autocratic States. There was little surprise when the news broke concerning the matters among those in the political ranks in Geisenfried, and so far, no action had been taken, as none need be taken. Geisenfried was not near any front of battle, and though close to one of the Strategic Defense League's gathering points, Geisenfried was not affiliated with the war at all, having withdrawn from Alliance for Stability, Peace and Inter-Regional Entente, which had proven to weak to prevent the war it was created to stop, and not part of either the League or the Alliance, as they were reffered to when one decided not to use acronyms.

Royal Residence - Konigseifert, Geisenfried

"...And that concludes the current situation as we know it so far as of today."

The head of intelligence stood in front of the King, the Cabinet and the Prime Minister and Chancellor, once again giving a briefing on the war, dubbed the 'War of the Oceanian Alliances' by one politician and the only name they'd really heard so far, though it was far from being officially termed so.

"The Starbladyian trial was recently publicized and I'm sure everyone in here's seen it, but what intelligence do we have that discerns if this was an actual assassination attempt by the Lowland Clans or a sham by Starbladyia?"

It was Chancellor Velthomer who said this, and the chief of intelligence soon responded.

"Not much. Though from reviewing the trial the evidence seems pretty concrete, but the only information from the evidence are Starbladyi sources and we've had reasons to doubt that information before. However, it should also be noted that all denials and declarations of faking the trial have been from the Clans and their allies. In the end, we can't really decisively conclude anything. We'd have to infiltrate Starbladyi and/or Lowland Clan records to get true conclusions. That'd probably be a wasted effort, though."

The King now spoke.

"It matters little anyway. It's simply the spark that's lit the powder keg, and that's the event's only real importance. For now, we stay as we have been."

Prime Minster Cantor took his turn to voice a comment.

"What of the Pacitalian efforts for peace?"

The King replied.

"Noble, but I expect they'll be ultimately be futile, unfortunately. The League and the Alliance are going to shoot each other up until they've vent out all the tensions that have been building for all this time, and then some."

The Grand Marshal of the Navy now popped up with some information.

"There is one thing I'm concerned with. Since the Defense League began building up reather close by, we've had multiple reports of civilian ships being harassed by Bazalonian ships in the seas nearby, and that the Bazalonians were quite aggresive. What shall we do about that, your majesty?"

"Bazalonia's just being paranoid. Secretary Schafter, can I ask you to contact Bazalonia and inform them to back off concerning our ships, being neutral in this conflict?"

"Sure thing, your majesty."

"Alright then... meeting adjourned, then."

QUOTE (Nedalia @ Oct 10 2006, 11:12 AM)
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM KAFRA:

To President Trahin,

Alliance: A party of WILLING members whose interests are mutual.

Those interests appeared to be very mutual when Khazaron, Lamoni, and Bazalonia sacrificed their sons and daughters in the name of your nation's soveirgnty, independence, safety, and freedom.

Nedalia has officially negated all trade agreements, public or private, between our two countries, ending diplomatic ties and recalling all our personnel home from the land where honor has no merit.

Thank you for your time.

From the office of President Yasmine Dala'a.

Apparently Alvin Reckno had no knowledge of the Myrtannian 'volunteers' and he was not the only people that didn't know, the Nedalians also didn't know.

However members of the Bazalonian military discussing plans for an invasion of Footballia knew. Once they heard what had happened they informed the Prime Minister with a suggestion that the Nedalians are told. While keeping an appropriate public appearance.

The first message was to the Myrtannians publically it was

"The clarification of the Myrtannian position is much welcomed and with the extra information provided in response alleviates our concerns. We will raise the issue of the Nedalian reaction with them in public and in private...I am also saddened to hear of the Prime Ministers sickness. It seems like there has been a recent plague of heart attacks. We wish him a quick recovery"

"'A party of WILLING members whose interests are mutual.' yes that is the definition of Alliance and they have with their clarified position. The position is that they will provide support and aid. non-military support, but support non-the less in the terms of financial and medical support. We believe these measures are enough to show that the Myrtannians do take their agreements seriously and the measures taken place by the Nedalian government is a reaction that is extremely un-needed. Just like with the Myrtannians I have re-iterated this statement with a letter to both the Mrytannian and Nedalian governments."

However the letters to Myrtannia and Nedalia had different content and where not at all what the speech that he had made.

"Firstly sorry about the original letter my military had known about the Myrtannians that where answered the call but had failed to inform me about the situation. And it seems that the Nedalians did not know either. I am sending a letter to them to detail the situation currently in the hope that they will change the decisions that they have made. Hopefully there will not be too much repercutions. Thank you.

Prime Minister Alvin Reckno, Bazalonia"

To Nedalia...

"Dear President Yasmine;

What I am about to tell you is to be kept in the strictest of confidence's. At current 200,000 'volunteers' from Myrtannia's special forces have joined up with Lamonian Special forces. These volunteers have been given Lamonian uniforms and are to be formally considered as Lamonian soldiers however the soldiers are autonomous under their leader, Lt. General Belkowitz. This is not to get outside of the SDL nor outside of those with the highest of security clearances.

This is in addition to financial and medical support offered in public by the Myrtannians.

Thank you..."

The newest acting President of Myrtannia, Mohammed Akbar-Maheed, was cautious about his honorary title. For the moment, it was his only temporarily, and it didn't appear that Trahin would be recovering anytime soon. If luck held out, the man would be forced to resign, making Akbar-Maheed the new President. As an insult to a man he had disagreements with on many issues, including the SDL, Akbar-Maheed had nominated Sean Holton to be the new Minister of State and Foreign Affairs. So it was confusing to him when a message, and an angry one at that, arrived from Nedalia. Shaking his head, Akbar-Maheed decided to send a message personally to the Nedalians.

CODE
To: Yasmine Dala'a, President of Nedalia
From: Mohammed Akbar-Maheed, Vice President/Acting President of Myrtannia

President Dala'a,

It is with great distress that I recieved your government's statement this evening.  President Trahin, as you may or may not know, has suffered a severe heart attack, and is not currently performing his duties because of it.  Between the two of us, Porfirio Trahin will never occupy the Triangular Office again.

In addition, I publically declared that Myrtannia would gladly extend any needed fiscal and medical support for SDL forces.  In this, I believe, Myrtannia honors its alliance with the SDL, and fulfills Article I of the SDL treaty.  We sincerely hope you will reconsider your position in light of this.

Also, in a matter most discrete, I feel compelled to inform you that 200,000 United Isles Commandoes have joined forces with Lamonian Special Forces.  While they are to wear Lamonian uniforms, they are under the direct command of Myrtannian Lt. Gen. Saida Belkowitz.  Where they will be used in the conflict is still undecided as far as I know, but they will be aiding the SDL on that front as well.

If these moves to honor our agreement with the SDL are not enough for you, then the United Isles will voluntarily leave the alliance.  It is my great hope, however, that with common sense back in the Presidency of Myrtannia, we can continue to work together.  There are limits to to contributions we can make militarily, hence why these UICs must remain incognito.  The Constitution of Myrtannia forbids the use of our armed forces except in the cases of: a) non-combat peacekeeping as part of a multi-national force, and b) self-defense of the home islands.

May cooler heads prevail in these matters.

Mohammed Akbar-Maheed,
Vice President/Acting President,
United Isles of Myrtannia

Then, he sent a second message to the governments of Lamoni, Khazaron, and Bazalonia:

CODE

My friends, may I first ask that you not judge the entire United Isles due to the actions of one man.  Porfirio Trahin is not the President at the moment, having suffered a severe heart attack.  Physicians have informed me that his condition has degraded in the past few hours.  He will not likely occupy the Triangular Office again.

In this respect, I would be the new President; and I intend to honor all agreements made by the United Isles.  Already, I have announced our intentions to extend full, unwavering financial and medical support for the SDL.  This, I feel, fulfills our commitment to Article I of the SDL treaty.

I would also request that, in light of these commitments, your governments counter the recent surge of anti-Myrtannian sentiments in the SDL.  Trahin lacked common sense, and he is no longer in power.  Myrtannia will honor its commitment to the League if the League will accept its help.

Mohammed Akbar-Maheed,
Vice President/Acting President,
United Isles of Myrtannia
Myrtannia
Experienced Senator

Fleet Command Center, ASS Winston Churchill, Crystil Channel

The battle had finally turned, in the air that is. The extra organization offered by the battle network and the powerful SPY-4 radars was finally letting the NJ-11 Limassols take advantage of their dogfighting capacity. The Limassols had only experience about 50 casualties, out of the 312 planes based solely on the Churchill, while the other three carriers with only 80 Limassols each had lost about 25 to 30 planes. With each plane TAGged and under observation and transmitted to the jets, they were easily able to determine friend from foe. Now came the first wave of Limassols with missiles bound for the carriers and the Subjugator. They reached the edge of the battle, and then launched their anti-ship missiles. Admiral Xavier watched at the Tactical Display Station. Then came the sudden warning of the torpedoes. "FISH IN THE WATER! READING," the officer paused, counted them up, "A HUNDRED FISH IN THE WATER, TRACKING VARIOUS TARGETS!"

Xavier had expected it. He wondered why COMNAVCRYS hadn't sent any subs with him, but he did have quite a few anti-sub ships out their. The sheer number of torpedoes was going to be a problem, but his DD-ASWs should be able to handle most of them. The captains of their submarines weren't discriminating in their targeting choices, meaning that the outer picket ships, the F-FAs and the DD-GMs were taking most of the hits. He watch on his display as the torpedoes were marked out as little red pill-shaped objects. The ships launched their ECM torpedoes in the water and filled the water with active sonar pulses, trying to confuse the guidance packages in the torpedoes. None of them were getting anywhere close to the Churchill, allowing Xavier to focus his attention on getting his ships to counter the bombardment of the ships.

They took seven hits in the first barrage, when they hadn't known they were coming. Two ships, a LCG and DD-ASW had sunk, while the rest sustained moderate damage. The BCGs rotated their cannons, and returned the favor to the battleships. Xavier watch with frustration as the torpedoes broke through the defences and struck the cruisers. Two MCGs and a LCG had to abandon ship and scuttle their ships, while the BCGs took two hits that disabled, but didn't destroy, their ships. Their engines were gone and Xavier wondered at whether he would have to abandon them. It would all depend on whether he could win the air battle. This would allow him time to bring up the tugs and get those two battlecruisers back to the docks. The battle had been raging on and on for about two hours now, with heavy casualties on both sides. He thought that any victory here would be a mere Pyhrric victory.

He watched as three new contacts appeared on his radar to his southwest. Their tracks put them as originating from the Grey Zone in the Legal Republic. “About damn time,” he said to himself. As the faint contacts disappeared from view. He gathered that those were the B-7 Kearny-V bombers that COMNAVCRYS had promised him to aid in the attack. Late, as usual, but he supposed that it was better late than never. He ordered a focused attack on the Timaran Battleships and the Starblayde and the Subjugator. He paused over the two names of the flagships. Two great leaders, now with their namesakes fighting a bloody battle for the fate of the region. He chuckled at the thought. He looked at the display and saw the cruisers firing their guns at the Starblaydi fleet, and as Firestorm missiles caused huge explosions on the horizon.

This battle would certainly go down in history as a great naval battle. But soon the tides had turned back in favor of Starblaydia. The A-14S were back in the air, and this time their pilots weren't so nervous. They approached from a different vector and waited until they were with range of the Churchill before unleashing their deadly cargo. The lack of AA screen meant that the Churchill was vulnerable. The missiles flew just feet off the top of the waves, and separated as if they were fireworks as the SRMDS fire came in. It took care of most of the missiles, but one of the guns malfunctioned and fired off into the empty sea. The missiles cruised in, and hit the carrier with full force. Airmen were blown off their feet, and casualties on deck were heavy. They had wrecked two of the five runways, and the Churchill would have to withdraw. That meant the rest of the fleet with it.

Xavier ordered his crew to stand down from general quarters, and he ordered his tactical officer and other aides to take a couple of hours to freshen up and enjoy dinner. The NJ-11 Limassols had taken fairly light casualties, with the Churchill's contingent taking 61 casualties, while the Splendour, Illustrious, and Alliance has lost 21 26, and 19 pilots and planes respectively. The fleet on the other hand, had taken a real beating. He decided to wait to look at the more recent casualties, he'd had enough death and destruction for one day. The helicopters from the carriers were already up and searching the wreckage for downed pilots and those who had survived the destruction of their ships.

The cruisers formed an interdicting line with their guns and missiles and the DD-AAs and the DD-ASWs as the fleet withdrew. After the first major naval battle in several decades, the outcome was fuzzy. Both sides had taken heavy damages and casualties, but an objective had been achieved. Fleet A2, similar in strength to Fleet A1, had slipped past Starblaydi ships without raising any alarms. Granted, it would be a matter of time before the satellites would find them but they would pose another threat to former Aquiliana that they couldn't ignore.

Legalese City, former Legalese

The headquarters had been emptied. All the vital equipment had been moved or destroyed, along with the papers. With the the airborne light infantry, armoured and artillery divisions arrayed around the city to defend against the assault that was coming, it was now a matter of getting the command battalion out of the city and safely behind Army lines in the Republic. Despite the death of the plague and the chaos from the insurgency from the NAO, life had quieted down their in the last month. The NAO lacked the weapons to attack the tanks, while the Army lacked the knowledge and manpower to flush them out of the tunnels that apparently had been built long before the uprising, yet did not exist on any map that the the Army could get it's hands on.

General/3rd Dodimakos could hear the artillery shells landing on the outskirts of the city. The battle had begun.

Lieutenant/3rd Jonathan Perry was a brand new lieutenant out of the Sandhurst Military Academy, and had joined the airborne out a desire to serve with the best and brightest of his country. He had trained hard, and won the favor of many of his superior officers. He was currently sitting in a house on the edges of Legalese City awaiting the arrival of the Starblaydi forces who had entered the former Legalese. His small group of paratroopers had been set up in order to serve as a fast reaction force to the armour that was slowly advancing on the city. They had mortars and anti-tank rockets ready for the forces, whom scouts and aerial photographs had shown were light on infantry. The 151st Light Airbourne Division gave the HQ battalion the ability to strike quickly as they retreated through the city.

The first artillery shells from the Starblaydi military landed in the city. The explosions rumbled in Perry's ears, and they got louder as they approached his position. The Starblaydis certainly knew they were here, simply on account that this was a major thoroughfare into the City. The shells landed in front of his position though. He could hear the Clan artillery firing back, sending up plumes of dirt just beyond the position of his squad. He could hear the T-7 Gilgamesh tanks approaching, and he readied his squads. Out in the front yard of the house, the mortar had been presighted on the road and the surrounding terrain. He raised the anti-tank launcher to his shoulder and awaited the tank coming of the road.

There was a small silence, and then the first tank appeared of the the horizon. Perry fired his launcher and ordered the mortar to begin firing. The Alliance troops all long the road began firing. He could hear the thwap-thwap of the transport helicopter that awaited to take his squad to a second prepared defensive position in the city. The infantry carriers roared past the tank and into the first sets of buildings. They disgorged their troops. He ran down the stairs and out into the street with his squad. They ran two blocks until they got into a car that was waiting for them. They drove down deep into the city. Mines had been laid on the roads, and the defensive positions with machine guns, mortars, and anti-tank rockets were prepared.

Let's see how the Starblaydi Army liked them apples.

An encrypted message was sent to the Lowland Clans and other SDL nations on enroute to TLC.. The plan was fly over as much friendly space as possible. And if that was not possible over sea. The route was to the eastern portion of Nedalia, through into Bettia up through the channel going over the Sarzonian Islands in the channel and into southern TLC where it would land.

A 5,000 strong logistical unit entered a Bazalonian Cargo Plane and headed via this route to TLC, It was escorted by a wing of SZ-23 Air Superiority Fighters made by Portland Iron Works. There once on the ground laid preperations for the incoming thousands of tanks and other military hardware that would soon be pooring into The Lowland clans.

Nearly 20,000 pieces of equipment and the 200,000 men required to man the equipment started to flow from Air Bases all around Bazalonia to appropriate bases in The Lowland Clans:

Landshark APC: 3000
Hunley Mine Detection/Clearance: 1000
Regus Light Tank: 4000 (Airdroped rather than unloaded)
Cheetah Cavalry Fighting Vehicle: 2000
Groundhog IFV: 500
Raptor fully tracked amphibious vehicle: 4000
Jaguar MBT: 1000
Bonham MBT: 1000

In Addition to the tanks 1 Million Highly Trained infantry (OOC:using same scale as Falc here.) All direct combat Roles have just been given AFAS.net enabled suits

10 men to a squad
5 squads to a platoon (50 men)
5 platoons to a company (250 men)
4 companies to a battalion (1,000 men)
5 battalions to a brigade (5,000 men)
5 brigades to a regiment (25,000 men)
40 Regiments

4 Medical Regiments

4 Sniper Regiments

4 Special Bazalonian Services (Special Ops)

Plus approximately half a million in supportm logistical and other non-combat related roles.

QUOTE (Geisenfried @ Oct 10 2006, 11:58 AM)
"There is one thing I'm concerned with. Since the Defense League began building up reather close by, we've had multiple reports of civilian ships being harassed by Bazalonian ships in the seas nearby, and that the Bazalonians were quite aggresive. What shall we do about that, your majesty?"

"Bazalonia's just being paranoid. Secretary Schafter, can I ask you to contact Bazalonia and inform them to back off concerning our ships, being neutral in this conflict?"

"Sure thing, your majesty."

"Alright then... meeting adjourned, then."

A statement of reply went back to Geisenfried after the question had been asked

QUOTE

To whom it may concern;

We do not wish to inhibit unnecessarily any civilian ships. I would like to inform you that the following policy has been enacted in regards to ships identifying themselves as civilian.

1. Contact will be made and nationality established
2. Destination of the shipp will be recorded
3. The civilian ship will be tracked to it's destination
4. Should behaviour of the ship not match that of the given destinatioon contact will once again be made
5. Should this behaviour be continued a ship will be allocated to provide a physical impediment and another warning.
6. Should behaviour continue unabated despite being warned multiple times by different methods then the ship will be the target of a boarding party to determine why there has been no response.

Please note this applies to all civilian entering the open waters even from a Milchaman or Geisenfried port. This policy is implimented to ensure the safety of all involved and for the security of Bazalonia of which you know is at war.

Thank you.

Thank you
