Chacorans brace for elections

"Elections in Liverpool England are set to get underway in less than a week now. On January 23rd, citizens of Liverpool England voted on a referendum to loosen the political grip in the country, and now the world is about to see the results. However, Chacor isn't spared from the limelight. The new Prime Minister of Liverpool England is set to become Chacor's next Head of State. Current Liverpool England Premier Marc Newells has already confirmed he will not run for the top job, instead staying on as a consultant for his party.

"The inevitable Cabinet Shuffle will also affect Chacor as Chacor would lose its top diplomat - unless Harry Livingston remains in the role of Liverpool England Advisor for Chacoran External Affairs, Chacorans would have to brace for a new outlook on foreign relations - two front-runners for this job in the opposition parties in Liverpool England have already confirmed that significant changes would be rung in, with the far-right candidate going as far as to say that all ties with Sarzonia and Ryloss would be cut, bringing back memories of a time Chacor went close to war with is neighbours."

Prime Minister Tommy Douglas turned the television off. This was bad. While he was, de jure, head of Chacor, he officially wasn't - the Chacoran constitution regarding the Head of State was never amended after independence from Liverpool England. A new guy in charge could enforce a state of emergency - something outgoing Premier Marc Newells would never do - and declare total shutdown over Chacor. The results could be horrific. Douglas knew he had to do something. Looking at his two passports (OOC: Sarzonian, Chacoran), he got an idea, and rang up a friend in City Centre...

"Government House, City Centre of Liverpool, Reception Desk. Public enq-"

"Give me Prime Minister Newell."

"Sir, I-"

"It's Tom Douglas. Chacor."

"Mr. Douglas, Prime Minister Newell is busy advising the party on the campaign. Is it important?"

"Yes, it is."

"Hold on. Prime Minister? Chacor's Douglas."

"Tom! What can I do for you?"

"Marc, could you do me a favour? Look up the Liverpool England Constitution. When we gained independence, the Head of State of Chacor was never changed from being the Liverpool England Head of Government. Is there anything that says Chacoran parties cannot run in Liverpool England elections?"

"Tom, you don't intend to run for Prime Minister do you?"

"I do. I need the power in Chacor. I cannot risk that far-right bastard coming in and declaring a state of lockdown."

"The constitution doesn't mention anything explicitly..."

"You don't suppose one could run as an independent?"

"I'll contact my legal team in Legalese, Tom. We'll work something out."

OOC: Now, if Sarzonia and Legalese could somehow find a way to get involved, say, Sarzonia actively campaigning against said far-right party or somesuch, and Legalese providing Marc Newell's legal team... wink.gif

"Marc, Nigel here. I hear you need our assistance in the matter of Douglas running for PM?"

Nigel Wilkes, the counsel hired by Newell, paused for the brief response before continuing.

"Well, looking over teh constitution and your laws, it looks like there's no barrier to him running and winning, as long as he's considered a citizen of Liverpool England. How he'd serve that role from Chacor, I don't know..."

Nigel paused, as Newell spoke some more.

"Marc, I do need to tell you something else. We're being asked by the Legalese State Department to stay out of it. I know you're my client, and I do want to help, but the best advice I can give you now is to consider additional counsel. I'll do what I can from Legalese here, but it's best if I stay out of direct involvement in this."

Nigel waited for the reaction, expecting an unpleasant one.

"You know, there might be one other option. Could you get Douglas to work with you in some way?"
