URCHINS AOCAF 34 SQUAD (FINALLY) RELEASED

After playing a number of preliminary stage matches with suspiciously unlabeled shirts and with the normally-extremely-recognizable Kagdazka and Pazhujebu national team players wearing ski masks, at last the truth is revealed with regard to who's been on the pitch in those wisteria and black kits.

Surprisingly (or not really at all), there are no changes from the Cup of Harmony 50 roster. Maksim Astafyev seems content to let his 23-player outfit gel over time before the cauldron of World Cup qualifying begins, before which he will presumably make some more difficult and more controversial decisions.

So, enough of this hot air. Let's get to the squad. A reminder to readers that players listed in blue are men; players listed in red are women.

UNIFORMS

These shirts, along with the rest of the Urchins' kits, are manufactured by the Pazhujebi sportswear manufacturer Hudhucharu Zurzhaq. Bear in mind that black shorts and wisteria socks are worn with the home wisteria shirt and that white shorts and socks are worn with the away white shirt.

MANAGER

Maksim Astafyev, once the manager of Nekromanti Fatezh and Urajbina ZL, is the boss of the Kagdazka and Pazhujebu national team. He has immediately done away with his predecessor Brutušam Erassi's insane attacking formations and mentality, opting instead for a highly basic 4-4-2. Further, he has satisfied many by declaring that the prevalent public jibber-jabber over Fušia Oujadda's "constant positional re-evaluations" are over; the star player will be used "as a right-sided midfielder, period."

Though a young coach, he learned the basics of management from the famously skilled man-manager Taras Strogolev while the two were together at Nekromanti. (Strogolev has since become manager of Raktaghav Hathi and Yastrabi Dyurtyuli, successively.) He is known for cultivating excellent relationships with his players... a welcome contrast to Erassi, who was notoriously awkward in the dressing room... more of a tactical genius. Astafyev is no stranger to tactical nuances, however; he is a disciple of the legendary Nekromanti School of Defending, a system developed by Taras Strogolev stressing the use of mobile, quick, small, and acrobatic center backs rather than the towering hulks that other sides prize.

FORMATION

The Urchins use a flat 4-4-2. Simple as you can get. The fullbacks can and will get down, but they are held responsible for defending in a way that was not the case under Erassi. The midfielders are expecting to dominate play by keeping the ball on the ground, and the second striker (in this case, Sajid) is expected to occasionally drop back into a trequartista role in order to collect the ball. In the event that pretty passing doesn't work, however, the old "just hoof it for the number nine" tactic is well and truly on the table.
