Nephi 2 - Iskara Daii 2
In one of the best matches of the second AO Champs league, the Nephi Bears and Starblaydia's Iskara Daii, who won third in the inaugural AO Champs league; stuck it out until the end of this hard fought match and came away with a two - two draw. The Daii scored their first goal at 12 minutes into the match, and their second came at 15 minutes. Things looked bad for the Bears, but they got lucky in the second half and managed to score two goals through heavy resistance, sealing the draw. Some comments made by Nephi CD Christian Silk were overheard: "Our national team has never been able to defeat the Starblaydi national team, so getting a draw against Starblaydia's top team is like a dream come true." Indeed, the reaction from Starblaydia itself seems like a national state of shock. We won't repeat some of the comments made by various Starblaydi's, but suffice it to say that they were not happy about the draw.

Karakan 1 - Rozier City 3
While the Nephi - Iskara Daii match seemingly went well, Lamoni's other entry; the Karakan Wolves lost their first match against Rozier City. It wasn't that Karakan fell apart or anything... it was more a case of not being able to score enough goals to matter. LM Ted Kubik managed to score his first international goal in this match, though. It is rumored that President Stone is not happy about the result of this match, especially after Nephi's performance thus far. Either way, only the future can tell what will happen to this team.

Wild Night for Woodstock
The most successful football club in the domestic league of the current world championship national team took to the pitch against Inland Peaks of Atlantian Oceania's perennial footballing masters in Vilita and played like a team that was anxious to prove itself even though it was the current AO Champions League cup holders.
Forward Brian Wilson and midfielder Bobby Convey each had a goal and an assist and goalkeeper Horace Sandt turned aside four Island Peaks shots to notch a clean sheet, leading the Woodstock Wild to a 2-0 win over Island Peaks in the opening match of Group A.
"This was more of a chance for us to shake off some rust than anything," Coach David Bostwick said. "We played pretty well, but we still haven't rounded into the kind of form we want."
Woodstock sure didn't look like a team that was struggling to find itself early on, getting four shots in the first 10 minutes of the match. However, Peaks goalkeeper Jawz Oaker was up to the task, denying forward Mike Lemke on two point blank shots, leaving the number 17 shirt to shake his head.
"That was pretty frustrating," Lemke said. "I'm just glad [Wilson] broke the ice." Wilson did so by firing a rising shot from 21 yards out that just eluded Oaker's outstretched fingertips and gave the Wild a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.
"You just try to put it on goal," Wilson said. "No magic to it."
The Wild made it 2-0 in the 74th minute thanks to a little magic on the part of now-former national team star Bobby Convey. Convey eluded the defence of Jaloey Afrikka, sending a nutmeg through him and skipping a shot through a screen and past Oaker. The goal led to a shoving match between midfielder Brad Edwards and defender Mike Coyle, who screened Oaker.
"That was just inexcusable," Edwards said after the match.
"That's a legal play. I don't know what his [expletive] problem is," Coyle fumed. Coyle drew a yellow card for retaliating.
"Mike needs to show a little more restraint," Bostwick said. "But there's no reason the refs should have missed at least a caution on Edwards."
At least the Wild didn't miss on their chance to win the match. |

Gabalfa Rovers: 1 - 0 :Corl Cove FC
Today's loss for the Corl Cove squad was an unfortunate one. Much of the game was played solid by both teams and even appeared as if the game would end in a draw. However, in the 73rd minute, Gabalfa Rovers forward, Gethin Ward was able to put an amazingly powerfull shot past Corl Cove keeper Krystof Kahn, who had managed to this point to stop 8 other shots by his opponents. In the 81st minute, Cort Cove responded with a shot by Jared Gosman, whos goal was called back by the lines referee who had called Gosman offsides by just 6 yards. The game ended with Corl Cove FC down 0 - 1 to their Bettian opponents.

Rozier City United: 3 - 1 :Karakan Wolves
It was no surprise to the Rozier City squad that they had come out victorious over their Lamoni opponents. The team came out strong early, but allowed one goal to slip by in the 5th minute due to a mistake by Rozier wingback Austin Hoff. Shortly thereafter and throughout the rest of the second half, Rozier City dominated the game and scored three goals before the half to bring the half time score to 3 - 1. The second half was mostly uneventfull except for a short lived injury to Rozier forward Shane Follett. Rozier had one final chance on goal when Shane Follett made an attempt to go around the Lamoni keeper, which proved unsuccesfull. The final score was 3 - 1 in favor of the number one Nojikan squad.

Thiel takes three
Sunnyslope FC - Thiel United: 1 – 2
Thiel United takes the lead in Group D after a superb 1-2 victory over Fmjphoenician champions Sunnyslope FC. This was a nice surprise for Thiel supporters, who had gotten used to their team losing matches on an international level.
The Spruitland First Division runners-up seemed to be heading down the same old road, going into half time one goal behind, but a refusal to give up saw them pull level, and a stroke of luck in the end even gave them the three points.
The luck came from the referee, who awarded Thiel a free kick from the edge of the penalty area in the second to last minute, after a perfectly clean tackle from a Sunnyslope defender. Balt Luyckx curled the ball into the top left corner of the goal, giving Thiel the three points – perhaps a tad more than they deserved. Pacey striker Ben Thorsen had scored the equalizer halfway into the second half.
With Rappor FC and Hypocrium City drawing two all, Thiel now finds itself on top of Group D – another thing the team’s supporters are not used to.
“Too early to get excited though,” Spruitland international Nico Van Dyck says. “Still five games to go, lots can happen. But this is definitely a good start. If we can limit the damage against Rappor, and hopefully take six points away from our two confrontations with Hypocrium, we may just have a shot at finishing on top.”

Not a chance
FC Albertine - Montepool Waves: 0 – 2
The Industrial Arena in Albertine was tightly packed for a match between a Spruitland and a Nova Britannican team, a prelude to the upcoming World Cup Qualifying match between the two nations.
FC Albertine coach Fabricio de Souza Lima made it no secret that he would have been happy to get away with a point against the group favorites, fielding a 4-5-1 line-up, Eduard Haacht in an offensive role in support of lone striker Dirk Jools, with De Witte on the bench and young Eddie Engels re-enforcing midfield.
It was a good attempt but it didn’t turn out to be good enough. The Spruitland champions managed to keep the zero until half time, but the Britannicans ran away from them in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession. With goals from Nelson de Montford and John Pompey, Montepool secured the win, and even with Louis De Witte coming in for a defender FC Albertine did not manage to strike back.
The loss was not unexpected, but supporters were undoubtedly hoping for a closer battle, and will expect their team to do better in following matches. Next on the agenda is an away game to Lamoni’s Karakan Wolves, a face off both teams will be eager to win to keep hopes of a top group finish alive.

It’s Hyp To Be (All) Square
Group A
Pylos Reavers 1 – 1 Coleford Town
The Reavers may be the underdogs in Group A but they put up a good fight on matchday 1 to secure their first point of the campaign after a 1 – 1 draw against Druidan side Coleford Town at the Oceanside.
It was the visitors that took the lead, in what was an even contest, midway through the first half. Nalepka’s sloppy backpass was intercepted, leaving Kindelan stranded as Coleford gratefully accepted the gift.
Reavers got back into it in the second half. Hypocria international Bora Burdali picked the ball up in midfield and played a long pass over the top of the Coleford defence. Bettian striker Judson York raced onto it, his pace taking him away from the defenders, and he kept his cool to fire low past the onrushing keeper.
“I’m happy that we’re off the mark in the competition”, Reavers coach Alex Santoro said after the match. “Obviously I’m disappointed at the goal we gave away. We go to Vilita next and we certainly can’t afford to defend like that there.”
Group D
Rappor FC 2 – 2 Hypocrium City
It was a tale of two strikers in this Group D encounter in Nedalia. It was Rappor’s Lusciano who started the scoring early in the first half after good work Frennese in the centre. The lead proved short lived as just four minutes later Golla broke down the right and played the prefect ball for Shirko to nod in at the near post.
The second half proved as level as the first with very little separating these two sides. Again it was the home team that took the lead and again it was Lusciano who got Rappor’s goal. But for the second time in the match it was Andrei Shirko who pegged Rappor back, Goodison headed against the post from Poskas’ corner and Shirko buried the rebound to make it 2 – 2.
“This looks like being a very tight group”, Zvonimir Roeder told reporters after the game. “We have a tough home fixture next against Sunnyslope but I’m confident we can get the win in that one. After that we have two games against Thiel to look forward to, should be an easy six points.”

Owls Of Despair
AN exciting match, six goals, but alas no points for Patriots Everton as they slumped to the Yeaddin Owls, four-two. The vilitan side were simply too strong for the Krytenian champs, and earned all three points in a thrilling encounter. Yeaddin raced into a two-nil lead before half-time, before Ryan Phillipe pulled a goal back six minutes into the second period. It was all in vain however, the Owls racing into a four-one lead, before Peter Marquez grabbed a late consolation. Shoreland United are next at the DMS - hopes high for a point or three against the Nedalian side.

Sabres Put To Sword
NOT the greatest moment in Stanton Town's history. They were completely outclassed by Phoenician side Vanguard Eagles, ans crashed to a three-one defeat at Buryfields. Xander Mehrtens' seventy-ninth minute consolation was small solace for a side already three down. It doesn't get any easier for Sabres - it's the Saugertis Snakes of Sarzonia next.

This turned out to be a very interesting match, with lots of chances to score, but few actual goals for either side. This match was tied 1-1 very early into it, and that tie was broken sixty minutes in, by Corl Cove FC. Lots of both defense and offense in this match; and this is the type of game that excites the fans quite a bit.

Karakan Wolves
In a somewhat expected, yet hard fought result, the Karakan Wolves beat off Spruitland's Albertine FC 2-1. In a startling yet irrelevant coincidence, the champs league record of both Nephi and Karakan are the same. It is thought that some of the better players from both Lamonian teams might be part of the Lamonian AOCAF squad if the teams do well enough.

Karakan Wolves – FC Albertine: 2 – 1
Thiel United - Rappor FC: 3 – 3
Spruitland First Division champions FC Albertine find themselves without points in Group E after a second defeat. A close game was expected against Lamoni’s Karakan Wolves, and a close game it turned out to be.
All goals came in the first twenty minutes, Ted Kubik quickly putting Karakan 2-0 in front and Eduard Haacht pulling one back pretty much immediately, but Albertine did not manage to pull alongside. FC Albertine will now look to come away with points from the match against Nojika’s Rozier City to keep their chances alive.
First Division Runners-up Thiel United gave the crowd their money’s worth against Nedalian visitors Rappor FC. Thiel came back from a 0-2 deficit with two goals from Jeff Wong to draw level, and a corner kick scramble forced into goal by Rigoberto’s shin even gave them the lead, but not for long. Rappor’s Lusciano drove the ball past Sammy Samuelsen to balance the score again, which was a fair result for both teams.
With 4 points, Thiel is now ready for a double confrontation with Hypocria champions Hypocrium City, from which they hope to come away with the six points.
“Well, there’s hope and then there’s reality,” Thiel United coach Lars Poulet says. “It’s not gonna be easy, but if we win at home, and can get at least a draw in Hypocrium, we should be well on our way into the next round.”

ONE was enough at the Davis Memorial as Pats took all three poits from their game with Nedalian side Shoreland United. The only goal of the match came from a refreshed Damian Sokolov - and it means that the men in navy and maroon will be well up for their game against Akani Sands.

Group A
Inland Peaks 3 – 1 Pylos Reavers
In Vilita, Pylos Reavers actually took the lead courtesy of a first half Theodore Petras strike but fell apart in the second have, shipping three goals as Inland Peaks secured an expected win.
"They were just too good for us today. It's as simple as that", Reavers coach Alex Santoro said after the match.
Group D
Hypocrium City 2 – 4 Sunnyslope FC
In Hypocrium the champions fared even worse than their league rivals. In front of a packed crowd at the City of Hypocrium Stadium, Hypocrium City conceded two goals before level the game thanks to goals from Shirko and Veron. They seemed to be in control but a Sunnyslope breakaway saw the visitors edge in front again and as City pushed forward the side from Fmjphoenix added a late fourth, much to the disgust of the Hypocrium City supporters.
“We’ve been doing badly in these international competitions so far”, City coach Zvonimir Roeder told reporters. “My players are disappointed, the fans are disappointed but we have two games against Thiel next and there is nothing that will cheer everyone up quite like two victories against a side from Spruitland.”
