Nephi Times - SPORTS

Karakan: Karakan got it's first CL III group points today with a convincing 4-1 victory over Hockey Canada's Irkutsk squad. The victory also moves Karakan to second place in Group C, just under Krytenia's Mercia Bromham, who has won both of their matches to this point. Karakan faces Mercia Bromham in the next match, which will be key for Karakan as they attempt to make it into the knockouts for the second time; still hoping to do better than last time, with it's surprise victory over the Iskara Daii.

Nephi: Another loss was meted out to the Bears in today's match. The only surprising thing about the loss was that it was to Oliverry's East Rubbermade FC squad, who are playing in the AOCL for the first time. Nephi keeps it's one goal loss CL III record by losing 2-1 in this match, and 1-0 in the match before that. Nephi is currently in last place in Group F, with not one group point to it's name.

Great Alexandria draw as the Desert Foxes get shutout again

Great Alexandria had a good day today as they drew Dorpar AC 2-2. The Desert Foxes on the other hand gave up a soft goal and could not come back and got shut out for the second game losing 1-0. Great Alexandria has a good chance to qualify right now only one point behind the second place FC Shaw who play Iskara Daii next match. Daii look like a cinch to qualify having already beaten the other two teams in the group and looking for the first round sweep with a win over Dorpar. The Desert Foxes are not out of it though. If they can score then a win in their next match against Hypocrium City then they would be only at least 2 points behind 2nd place. Now onto the abbreviated match reports:

Desert Foxes:
The first half was close as the Foxes almost scored thrice. The first chance went high as Misterson tried to catch the keeper sleeping but instead the ball went high and the score remained 0-0. The second oppurtunity was off a corner kick as an unmarked Kelly Mihm headed the ball wide. The third oppurtunity was on a free kick as Bobby Martin bent the ball around the wall but it was saved easily by the keeper. The half time score was 0-0. The goal came for Roenech FC in the 47th when <Eugene Hammons> beat a napping Foxes defense to put the ball past Koolerc and Roenech in the lead. The Foxes could not recover losing 1-0.
Roenech FC (Hammons 47)
Desert Foxes (will score next game)

Great Alexandria:
Oof I want to post this now but I need a match report and I don't want a match report so here are the scorers.

Great Alexandria (Timmons 37 Nielson 75)
Darpor AC (Lauger 24, 82)

OOC: sorry if I get names wrong.

AO Champions League III

Hypocrium City 0 - 0 Jhanna City

It was a clash of capitals on matchday 2 as Hypocrium City hosted Liga Starblaydia champions Jhanna City. And in the end it was the home fans who were the happy as they saw their side pick up a creditable point against a very talented Jhanna team. Veteran defender Paul Blake was named man of the match for his efforts and his tremendous blocking challenge as he threw himself in front of an Itechton Matranga shot was repeated endlessly on the sports shows that night.

“We went easy on them. They had girls in their side after all”, striker James Eagles told reporters.

Judging by the expression on Christian Dogbe’s face at the final whistle the coach didn’t share that light hearted sentiment. Perhaps it was because he had missed out on a chance to avenge his native Vilita’s defeat in Starblaydia in a World Cup qualifier that was eating at him? Or perhaps it was the fact that his side have now picked up just two points from two home games? With tournament debutants Desert Foxes up next he will certainly be looking for his team to record their first win.

The Imperials drop into third place in Group E after Roenech FC’s 1 – 0 win over Desert Foxes in Nojika. Roenech move into second, level with Jhanna City on 4 points.

Irougil FC 2 - 0 Pylos Reavers

Over in the Tropics Pylos Reavers suffered an, albeit expected, 2 – 0 reversal against Stellar Division side Irougil FC. But, despite the defeat, Reavers are only a point off the top spot in Group D after leaders Rappor FC were held to an entertaining 3 – 3 draw in Oliverry. Reavers face Rappor in their next match.

A Win & A Loss For Nojika

Rozier, Nojika - "We deserved the win," said Roenech FC coach Gary Nettles after the club earned 3 points with a 1 - 0 win over the Desert Foxes out of Milchama. "We know who the better teams are in our group," said Nettles, "and now it's just a matter of getting out on the field with Jhanna City and exploiting their weaknesses." Roenech's only goal came in the 47th minute from Eugene Hammons, who had taken five shots on goal in the first half - all of which sailed high over the crossbar or landed in Koolerc's arms. The goal came from some simple dribbling through the middle by Hammons who proceded to turn central defender Liam Henderson - leaving Hammons open to take a shot at goal an score. Next up for Roenech FC is Jhanna City - one of the regions top clubs from Starblaydia. "We're confident in our skills and endurance. We're confident we will be victorious over Jhanna City," said Roenech captain Ty Baron. Roenech FC currently stands in second in the group - tied with Starblaydia's Jhanna City in points.

Rozier City on the other hand, did not fair as well as their fellow Nojikans - falling 1 -2 against Mercia Bromham. The match did however prove to be very exciting for fans from both sides as all three of the goals came in the second half in just a 12 minute span. Spivey and Powell each scored a goal to give Mercia Bromham a 2 - 0 lead over the Nojikan champions. Three minutes after Powell's goal, Rozier City forward Shayne Follett elegantly headed the ball to put it past the opponents keeper - the ball came from a long cross from midfielder Tom Maynard. "Our problem this time around was that we weren't able to produce anything offensively for a long time, so we weren't able to take shots at the goal and test their keeper. Next time, this won't be a problem, "said Rozier's only goal scorer, captain Shayne Follett. Rozier City now sits in 3rd place, tied with the Karakan Wolves in points, whom are currently placed in 2nd. Mercia Bromham sits atop the table with 6 points after two games.

Rozier City: 1 - 2 :Mercia Bromham

Wood You Believe It?
SIMPSON, NORTHERN LANDS - After the Owls came the Dragons. But Butetown's finest could not escape the wrath of the Caleys in a five-goal thriller at Walton Gardens.

The Bettians took the lead in the twelfth minute through Mattan, only for Caledon's own Nedalian talent, Tim James, to equalise. James scored a second before half-time, however with seventeen minutes to go, Hasni Teague scored thanks to a wicked deflection off poor Andy Snelders.

However, it was the man with quite possibly the longest name in the Champions League, Jean-Christophe Wood-Collins, who won the game for Simpson. He somehow managed to find the net in a goalmouth scramble just a few minutes from time. Next up for Simpson are Hockey Canada's finest, North Pole United, who will be hoping to knock Caledon off second spot.

CALEDON SIMPSON (KRY) - 3 (James 23, 38, Wood-Collins 85)
BUTETOWN DRAGONS (BET) - 2 (Mattan 12, Teague 73)

No Joy For Nojikans
BROMHAM, NOVA MERCIA - Six out of six for Mercia as they blew apart Nojikan side Rozier City in a seven-minute spell in the second half, a victory that leaves them three points clear at the top of Group C.

Both sides were happy to play cautiously in the first half, with neither keeper particularly busy. The home side, however, came out invigorated in the second half, and six minutes in, Adrian Belmore struck a long-range effort, which caught his team-mate's heel and went in. Robin Spivey was given the goal by the match officials, despite Belmore's claims. Another six minutes saw the Krytenian side score their second - Hypocrian Michael Powell netting from a free kick.

A lapse in concentration saw Shayne Follett rise unmarked to pull one back for the visitors, but Rozier never really threatened after that. Mercia get a chance to really roar away at the top as they face Lamonian side Karakan Wolves.

MERCIA BROMHAM (KRY) - 2 (Spivey 51, Powell 57)
ROZIER CITY (NOJ) - 1 (Follett 62)

Mixed result as Foxes win but Alexandria lose

MD4 of the AOCL was a mixed bag for the Milchamian teams in the draw. The Desert Foxes got the first ever win for Milchamian soccer team in AO beating Hypocrium City 3-2 while Great Alexandria lost their match to FC Shaw 2-0. The Foxes who had had trouble finally put all their troubles to rest as Misterson scored twice and Bobby Martin added a third. Great Alexandria on the other hand had a terrible day looking tired from the get go before finally conceding in the 44th minute. The second half for the Alexandrians went from bad to worse as at times it looked lucky that they were not down 4 or 5-0. In the end a second goal for Shaw did come in the 77th minute.

The Desert Foxes on the other hand had a great day and finally got over their scoring drout in a big fashion scoring 3 goals in the first half. The first goal came in only the 3rd minute as Clyde Misterson snuck into the box and Liam Henderson put in the pass to score and make it 1-0 Foxes. That was just the beginning for Misterson who got out of his slump in a big way as he scored his second of the game in the 25th minute when Yaniv Alexander found him on a run which he perfectly executed and lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the goal for a 2-0 lead. Then he could have had a hat trick in the 31st but his header went off the post. His play was not to be in vein though as he got an assist on the third goal as he found Bobby Martin on through pass and Martin had a finishing touch of a striker as he scored to make it 3-0 Foxes. Hypocrium City would score twice in the second half but it would not be enogh as the Desert Foxes won 3-2.

Final Scores:
Desert Foxes 3 (Misterson 3, 25 Martin 32)
Hypocrium City 2 (too lazy to get names

FC Shaw 2 (look above)
Great Alexandria 0 (Don't Desert Foxes get shutout)

Nephi Times - SPORTS

KARAKAN: The winning streak of Krytenian squad Mercia Bromham has been snapped by Karakan, leading the MB squad to a 3-3 draw. This leaves Karakan in Group C's second place by virtue of goal difference, as Nojika's Rozier City also came to a draw today against Irkutsk from Hockey Canada. Should the matchups continue, Karakan would likely face either MB or Rozier City again. The Wolves would love to win a rematch against Nojika's Rozier City squad.

NEPHI: Continuing their losing ways from the last CL, the Nephi Bears lost to Bettia's Sukatra Tigers 2-0. There really is not much that we can say about Nephi's situation, other than that it is not desirable.

OOC: Since we only have 24 teams in 6 groups, the 3rd place teams with the most points qualify. If there is a tie on points, then we look at goal difference. If there still is a tie, then goals scored.

AO Champions League III

Group D

Pylos Reavers 2 – 0 Rappor FC

It was a fine evening in Pylos as the Reavers took to the field against Group D leaders Rappor FC of Nedalia and the night was destined to get even better. The Hyper League runners up produced an excellent display to take all three points from the reigning champions of Nedalia. It was Krytenian international Nick Caraiani, full of confidence after his recent goal for his country, who was at the heart of the Reavers performance. He netted a fine goal in the first half after being set up by York and teed up Beck for the second goal shortly after the interval.

The win takes the Hyper League side to the top of Group D at the halfway stage and Alex Santoro’s side are now well placed for an assault on the next round.

Group E

Desert Foxes 3 – 2 Hypocrium City

Hyper League champions Hypocrium City may once again be sweeping all before them in the domestic league but the Champions League is proving an altogether tricky task. Fans of the Imperials were expecting a win against tournament new boys the Desert Foxes but a first half horror show in Milchama in which City went 3 – 0 down ruled that out. Total embarrassment was spared by a Kevin Keda double, clearly not wanting to be outdone by his compatriot Caraiani, in the second half.

The result leaves Hypocrium City languishing at the foot of Group E, 5 points behind leaders Jhanna City but just 2 behind second placed Roenech FC of Nojika.

United Pole-Axed
SIMPSON, NORTHERN LANDS - Caledon are looking good in second place in Group A after a convincing victory over the Hockey Canadian lightweights North Pole United in a one-sided encounter.

Caledon hit the cruise control early on, as Tim James opened the scoring on seven minutes with a scorching volley which left the United keeper stranded. Cameron Stevenson headed the side two-nil ahead from a corner on the half-hour, and the Caleys looked invincible.

The second half petered out somewhat, with substitute Alan Huw's strike the only meaningful contribution, but the result has sent the side's confidence soaring as they entertain the Yeaddin Owls on Matchday Four.

CALEDON SIMPSON (KRY) - 3 (James 7, Stevenson 30, Huw 66)
NORTH POLE UNITED (HCN) - 0

Wolves At The Door
BROMHAM, NOVA MERCIA - Disappointment for the Mercians as they were held three-all at home by a resurgent Wolves side. A Robin Spivey brace, coupled with a goal for Druidan überstriker Adrian Belmore, were cancelled out by goals from Towers, Boyd and Nixon.

Mercia will be tooking for better luck in their return fixture against Irkutsk of Hockey Canada, where three points will all but assure qualification.

MERCIA BROMHAM (KRY) - 3 (Spivey 11, 61, Belmore 72)
KARAKAN WOLVES (LAM) - 3 (Towers 23, Boyd 67, Nixon 80)
