As the military situation is becoming more and more difficult and since it had become hard to hide these facts from the people, Latao is falling into chaos deeper each day.

The common people in Latao start to lose their trust in the national leaders and an increasing number of citizens start to think that this regime is totally crazy.

After NEC minister of Defense and War suddenly left the capital city of Luciaria for doing “important jobs” as he said somewhere in the south west of the country, he’s car got stopped by angry people, put on fire and the minister was finally shot by an unknown.

The regime used this event as reason for its iron fists acts against people that do not want to complay with the regime and enemies in their own rows which they call “buddy murders”.
Witnesses report from civilest being hanged on trees for “collaborating with the enemy”.

The Latao general staff has barricaded itself in their leader bunkers to plan the end battle. Latao’s armies in the conquered THS-territories are preparing for their fallback as the bombing of allied forces is getting more intensive each day.

The order to the north-troops given by the NEC is as follows:

FF-Squads and members of the Latao military: The enemy is currently preparing massive attacks against our homeland. Abbatoir-Forces are surrounding Latao and get positions near Latin waters.

Gentlemen, prepare for a destruction war! Defend the Latin homeland with merciless cruelty to the last man. The foreign invaders must be stopped our borders no matter the costs. Anyone that is going to surrender will be immediately executed by the FF.

In this situation we can not make any more prisoners – therefore, any resistance from any source is to be stamped out with all methods required.

You are fighting for Latao, for the Latao race, for Latao blood! Long live the nation!

Helper troops of the Latin armies move huge amounts of war prisoners to the front lines and Latao’s coasts to use them use human shields against possible invaders. Divisions are currently taking position all along coasts and beaches to ‘welcome’ the foreign killers with a hailstorm of bullets from hell. While the people are preparing to defend their cities with everything they can find. Citizens bare barricading roads and collecting foods, weapons and ammo.

NEC-Leader Roger Omsec in one of his last speeches

Folk of Latao
The enemy is about to open a door to hell! Our race must prepare for the final battle! There is only Fight and Victory or Death!
We will defend our homeland no matter the costs, we are bound and determined to defend our freedom and our pride until the last man!

If Tiberius Starblayde and his killers wants to enter our loved home country it shall be his end!

Falcania has decided to go to war, backing up Starblaydia. The following speech was made by him today.

My fellow Falcanians.

These past few months have been a difficult time for all of us. Mainly because of the Latin we have had the misfortune to associate with.

Many of you will note the number of Latin-originated problems this region has had. We have remained neutral for most of them. But now this neutrality ends.

This day, we will fight the Latin. We will fight alongside Starblaydia and Abbatoir. We will fight, we may die. But we will fight nonetheless! So if you are in the dirt, with a Latin at your throat, cry "For the Falcon!" When you are leaping out of a tank, or a plane, or a boat, ready to give the Latin a taste of hot steel, cry "For the Falcon!"

As you go now, shout! "FOR THE FALCON!"

250,000 soldiers are on their way to Latao, via the southern straits.

My Leader, we’re having another problem!
What’s now ?

Falcania declared War on us.
What ?! That fat bitch ?! – God damn!

NEC-Leader Omsec immediately broadcasted the news to his generals:

Gentlemen, today King Falcon decided to move to war against the glory nation of Latao. His words were like “we will fight, we may die” – so ensure they ARE gonna die!

I consider that as good news. Finally we have them there were we can beat them! While they stay off and hide in Falcania, we couldn't catch them - now we will erase them!

My Leader, the north east fleet reported enemy contact with the Starblaydi! Our submarines and vessels are under massive attacks but performing fierce resistance. For the being, our naval forces sank 3 Starblaydi vessels, while we lost 4 submarines. Obviously these dicks found a way to decode our transmission signals which keys are currently being changed each 15 mins – we should withdraw within the next few ours, my Leader.

No! The god damn position is to be hold! At any costs! We must not free the south-east passage to the homeland! If we withdraw, Starblaydia and Abbatoir forces have free way to transport war goods and foods to their outposts to prepare their strike against Latao’s mainland.

Your men shall however prepare to secure all beaches, as we do not know yet where and how the Falcanians are going to intercept.

We will reply to King Falcon with a hailstorm of fire and death they will never forget! I consider any move by Falcon as open resistance against the fatherland that will be stamped out with an iron fist!

"Mr. Senior Vice President!"

Senior Vice President for External Affairs Mark Lorber was looking up. President Mike Sarzo was in Hamptonshire attending to Ducal matters and Senior Vice President for Internal Affairs Nicole Lewis was preparing for a holiday in her favourite vacation spot in Pacitalia, so Lorber was running the country.

"Yes, Joe?"

"Sir," the college-aged intern replied breathlessly, "Falcania has just declared war on Latao. That makes it three countries against them."

"And you want us to do what, exactly?"

"Support them."

"Who?"

"Uh."

"We're not on good terms with Latao, remember? I know Starblaydia and Abattoir aren't exactly on our Christmas card list, but I'm not going to commit Sarzonian men and women to a war against Tweedle Dum because Tweedle Dumber is in trouble."

"But sir! The SAAS..."

"I don't give a damn about the SAAS right now. Our national interests are not involved in what happens to Latao. Frankly, I'd like to see them burn to the ground. Maybe that will give them some humility."

Frustrated, the intern turned and walked out of Lorber's office. Lorber grimaced and stood up to look out the window.

Figures the one time we have a chance to do something about those Starblaydis they're fighting Latao, he thought. The very thought of those Latins makes me sick.

It must be clear to the leaders of the regime at this time that this is not about victory anymore. Winning this war has become an illusion. If it is the destiny of the Latao people to go down in this murder war of the century, it shall be, but surrender we will not!

As this war can not be won no more, we shall defense the loved homeland and our culture and blood till the total destruction of the Latao causing the highest damage and loss possible to the enemy invaders.

After the last five years of war, there’s only wreckage left of what was the mighty air force of Latao while wide parts of the naval infrastructure have been destroyed also.

The regime can barely defense its land from the increasing attacks flown against Latao now even during the day. Control over the international waterways near Latao has nearly been lost, so that it’s not very difficult for the coalition to transport fresh troops and goods to the front, as Latao’s formerly feared submarine hunters now have become the hunted.

Latao’s military and the Weapon-FF have widely withdrawn to the original borders. Military and other armed squads as well as the civil people are preparing for an invasion of Latao. Doors, windows and bunkers are being ‘secured’ with everything that can be found, people live in danger and state of permanent alert as the air alerts have become a daily happening.

As the wave of violence, started by the people of Latao is coming back to its roots, chaos and fear is on the rise in the once well ordered society. The regime regularly executes all kind of ‘enemies’, basically common people that lost trust into the leaders and their paroles.

The people start to realize that they were going into a wrong direction, their leaders have lied and cheated of them, sending them into a war for glory and power which was instead the beginning of the end for the old nationalist, militarist culture of Latao.

Public events of Omsec have become rare, while witness report that the highest leaders of the sinking regime seem to have lost any last connection to the real world finally. As the military situation is getting more and worse with each day and each telegram arriving the leader bunkers, discipline and morality sinks with the hope of a good end of this nightmare. They are celebrating wet parties with lots of booze, music and females while they do not seem to care what’s going on the bombed and demolished cities of the country.

Everyone knows, it is only a matter of time until the country is invaded and it starts – the final battle to defend every meter of the home ground. The people seem to know that they are going to pay for their doings during the war as paroles like enjoy the war – peace will be terrible can be found at any wall that’s not bombed away.

The regime is recruiting anything it can find for the last battle. The ‘folk storm’ basically consists of badly trained 16 years old and old people arming simply with 9mm pistols and some rifles and permanently short on ammo – but each with an iron mind ‘formed’ by the propaganda of the regime that makes them willing to fight to the outer limits for leader, folk and fatherland.

The People know, there’s only Fight and Victory or Death, since Latao is on a lost post without friends. Vampires and bloodhounds are just waiting to smash the Latin folk under their fist. It’s strictly forbidden to speak it out, what is clear to most people: The dream of the dominating world-power of the lord-race is gone, now Omsec has a 1.7 billion folk brought into pain – from this strike we not recover anymore, now we will live forever under the fist.

Let’s however stand together at the weapon fighting Starblaydia and Abbatoir and Falcania wherever we face them- we shall victory or go to Vallhalla!

"Control, this is India One. We are approaching Luciaria town centre now. I-Four and Seven are ready to release on your mark."

Amidst the panic and AA fire below, India Squadron flew over the centre of the Latin capital.

"Deploy. Deploy. Deploy."

The bomb bay doors of the two well sized bomber aircraft opened. Each dropped a 750lb fuel-air bomb. one hundred yards later, each dropped a second. Four explosions followed, and an entire city block crumbled to the floor. Then there was a fifth explosion, and a lone KAF pilot parachuted down into enemy territory.

"Control, this is India One. Package delivered succesfully. One casualty, India Ten was hit, the pilot bailed. Heading for home. Over and out."

Despite the treaty that Lamoni was using to send plans and train Latin nuclear personel, President Stone sent an aide to the Starblaydi embassy carrying a map of Latao with all known nuclear sites displayed on it. It wasn't exactly secret, and as the placement of the facilities was all done by Latao, it certainly wasn't going to give Starblaydia intel on Lamonian nuclear strategy.

The aide was ushered into the ambassador's office, where he shook hands with the ambassador, and handed him the map, saying, "While Lamoni won't be doing any fighting, President Stone has authorized NIA to give you whatever intel that we recieve on Latao. That map I gave you has the location of all known Latin nuclear facilities. We won't be asking for anything in return, yet."

Tiberius,

The Legions are ready for immediate deployment to the Lataoan area. Their command will be entrusted to Gaivs Marivs - Legendary commander of the I, II, III, and IV legions - who I will let report to you and your top generals.

A severe rebellion has broken out in the eastern provinces and I will be unable to assist in any of the actual military planning, but the resources of Roma stand ready to help.

I also have one last gift for you; if any cities are to be occupied, I offer to you three of our Cohors Vrbanvs to help quell any guerilla fighting and terrorist actions. I wouldn't underestimate them; if any of their work in the former lands of Bazarain is of any indicator, they get the job done... quite well.

"I love it when crappy little no-brain countries claim to have inflicted more casualties than they actually have," Admiral Yanosh Clarke chuckled to himself as he surveyed the positions of his fleet - very much intact - on the display table, "Maybe they sunk their own ships in the confusion."

It was a pity, really, that Latao had only started firing back well after the B-2 flights had dropped their smart bombs and returned to base. There was a fairly large hole in the Latin air-defence net, but no longer did the Forces of the Protectorate have the element of surprise. Which was also a pity. They did, however, have the initiative.

There were all sorts of ways to detect the approaching Latin fleet. You could look down from a plane and see their wake behind the ships, but that was a little risky to get that close. You could look down from a satellite, but that was never quite real-time, You could detect them through active radar emissions, but any Captain worth his salt would have shut those down, just like he had ordered his fleet to do.

Clarke had chosen yet another option, however. His submarines, quieter than your average cheese-thief mouse, were spread out before him, under the waves. Just by having their sonar operators listen they could track the ships of Latao, while evading their submarines too, he hoped.

They had a good idea of where the Latao ships were, of course, just not exactly, and he didn't want a sucide spotting mission by a pair of his Nightwing fighter craft. There was, however, a flight of SR-71 Blackbirds on their way out of Xile to fly well above the range of most surface-to-air missiles.

They should give him a perfect real-time picture of exactly where the ships of Latao werem then he'd decide the best way to kill them.

Against the will of NEC-Leader Omsec, high ranked general Rominger offered a partial-surrender to Abbatoir and peace in the north. It’s not known if he really believes in success of his move. He also sent out a telegram to the free Republic of Lamoni and the former enemy-of-mind, the incorporated States of Sarzonia. No one knows if this act of desperation is even being noticed by one of the victory-powers:

CODE

To you, generals and soldiers of Atlantian Oceania.
As you might know, the situation is difficult, but not lost – as the curtain has now yet fallen. We urge you as political leaders and soldiers of your nation to recognize your need of the NEC-State (Latao) as bulwark against the SAAS. As the situation is difficult we must stand together to prevent the SAAS having a stranglehold over Oceania. We are not questioning anything, all we do is to remind you not to forget what is your responsibility.

May god help us in this dark hour.

Having recieved the odd message from Latao, the Free Republic decided to send this message to General Rominger:

CODE
To: Gen. Rominger, Latao
From: Lamoni

We have recieved your message.

The Free Republic notes that it was Latin political leaders who started this war by their comments offending too many of the wrong people.  The only way to end this war with the survival of Latao as a sovereign nation would be for you to organize a coup, kill the Latin political leadership, and declare a cease-fire.  Lamonian troops could then act as peacekeepers if you request them.  You can restore the Latin political system with new ELECTED leaders after the war ends.

"President Tariskany, Latao has offered a partial surrender of her northern territories in return for a cease-fire."

Tariskany seemed a little taken aback by the news, but his mind had been long considering such an option.

"Ask the controlling Latin government what terms they will be willing to accept in such a surrender, and I will think about our options. By the way, inform Tiberius of this news, and see what his thoughts are. If we cease our efforts, how does he think his casualties would be affected."

"Surrender?" Tiberius said over the encrypted phoneline, travelling as he was in a plane to Krytenia, "They have to get rid of their nuclear weapons, and probably that Omsec cheeky bum too, just to be certain."

Regime Change over Weapons of Mass Destruction, he thought to himself, now where have I heard that before?

OOC: I went over something this with Starblaydia, and he agrees that having self-destruct mechanisms on my nukes sent to Latao is not godmodding. (Bet he never saw THIS coming, though) Just in case someone is confused.

IC: With the situation in Latao really looking bad; President Stone knew that it was only a matter of time before SAAS forces tried to put their hands on a Lamonian nuclear weapon. After much discussion by the Lamonian politico-military leadership, it was decided that the best option was to self destruct the nukes in place. Latao had never been told about these self-destruct devices, but it looked like Latao hadn't put the nukes near population centers, so no one should be harmed by the radiation release. Thus decided, the radio code for the self-destruct was sent to all the Lamonian nukes in Latao by satellite radio. All of the nukes blew up (conventionally, the warheads didn't arm), probably taking some Latin soldiers with them, but that was of little account to Lamoni.

Aboard the Linford, Commander Andrew Furstrum was surveying the aerial recon photos. Explosions had ripped into several military bases, killing members of the Latin personnel. What really worried Furstrum was that it appeared that radiation levels in these areas were greatly above average. He took the details to the ships Captain, Peter Cervanti.

The Commander spoke. "These must be the weapons caches. But surely, if they had exploded, there would be much devastation?"

Cervanti looked at him quizzically. "Not if the warhead wasn't armed."

"So why would the Latins destroy their own weapons. This is the one thing they could use effecively in their defence?" He saw the Captain's look - the 'cat with canary' look he often gave an officer when the penny had dropped. "What?!?"

"Commander, you forget one thing. The Latins purchased these weapons from Lamoni's government. Surely even Lamoni would be sensible enough to have self destruct protocols to prevent their own weapons being used against them?"

"Of course!"

"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to make a phonecall."

One phonecall later, and Admiral Stephen Ariganosa was left shaking his head in his office in Everton City. He picked up the phone and made a call himself.

"Get me the Chairman! ... Yes, I know he's in a meeting. ... Goddamit, it's important! ... Yes, I'll hold."
