Lord-Protecter Tiberius Starblayde was present in person today to unveil the brand-new, state-of-the-art Shipyards in Samosisos. Lord Starblayde declared the Samosisos Naval Yard open and made a short speech to the assembled crowds.

"Starblaydia is a leading player in Atlantian Oceania in many respects," he proclaimed, "and today we add ship-making to that list. The new Samosisos Naval Yard will produce the finest ships yet seen in Starblaydia's armed forces."

Press statements were also released today from various sources that hint at the coming changes within Starblaydia's Navy. Based on the successes of the Paricone construction facilities that have been turning out Corvette-type vessels for Dwarven uses to patrol the Bekk, Starblaydia's Navy will be modern, efficent, fast, powerful and well-armed.

With the natural deep-water harbour of Samosisos being exploited to the full, the three seperate shipyards combine for one enormous facility that covers more than a few suqare kilometres. Ships of all major classes will be built at this facility, with the Shipyards up in the North near Penningworth being upgraded to produce modern minor surface combatants.

Whole new classes of Cruiser, Battleship, Carrier, Destroyer and Frigate classes are already sitting on the designers' desks waiting to be built. Starblaydis have designed these based on lessons learnt around the world. The materials are in place, the construction personnel are in place. The older naval vessels are still fine and dandy, but the new era of Starblaydi Naval Supremacy has begun.

(OOC-1: Samosisos is pronounced 'Sa-mo-sea-os')
(OOC-2: This is a 'modern tech' navy. No railguns or island-sized ships or anything like that. I'm building the kinds of things that us internet-military-geeks would want our nations to build in 2005)

The Nedalian Navy is interested to know if the new Starblaydian vessels will be up for sale once they begin manufacturing them.

Though the official word from Starblaydi Defence Minister Lord Carlito Orfosi is that the Starblaydi Navy will not be putting their new ship designs up for sale in the foreseeable future, the inside-word is 'not a bloody chance'.

Fair enough, although we were not asking for the designs themselves, just for the actual vessels.

The difference between selling the ship designs and the ships themselves is irrelevant as any half-decent engineer can copy a ship that he sees in front of him.

Older Starblaydi vessels made obsolete by this new facility may, however, be sold off at a later date.

Length: 412 meters
Max speed: 35 knot-range
Powerplant: 4 nuclear reactors
Armament:
- 6 main guns (arranged in dual turrets)
- 20 Secondary guns (arranged in dual turrets)
- VLS cells
- Anti-Ship missiles
- CIWS
Combat systems: Classified
Armour: Estimated 45 cm
Aircraft: 5 Helicopters
Crew: 2100 approx
Builders: Samosisos Naval Yard

(OOC: For any nation with a spy satellite/intelligence/etc system worth its salt, you would be noticing a rather large ship, among other things, being constructed in the recently-announced Samosisos Naval Yards. Here's a quick run-down. This would be a mixture of intelligence gathering, spy satellite pictures, toruist information and publically available info. Note: these are not all the details, I gotta have some secrets!

This is getting towards the limit of 2005 tech. Nothing too outlandish here, though that probably means I'm hamstringing myself against you 'modern' nations who use rail guns and crazy -explicitive removed- like that)

If the Confederacy of Latao does not wish to harbour nuclear-powered vessels in its ports or its waters, then it should say so now, to prevent any misunderstandings from those nations with such vessels.

It's OK as long as these nations are allied or friendy-minded with us and they perform serious maintenance on them.
What we do not want is the "russian way"...

This is to be the flagship and leading edge of the Starblaydi Navy, of course we are going to keep this in tip-top condition.

Our techinical expertise in all things nuclear should prevent any accidents in regard to nuclear reactors.

Well, Starablaydia as a friend-nation of Latao is welcome here. We can even talk, about placing technical maintenance personnel in Latin harbours.

There are sufficient personnel on board the Battlecruiser to deal with any minor technical problems that may occur, thankyou.

Starblaydia,
We at the military department of Lesser Ribena are beginning a substantial reformation and expansion of our armed forces, particularly the navy. I believe you mentioned that your older obsolete vesselss may come up for sale in the future. Might I be the first to express an interest in buying at least some of these vessels from you.

Yours,
Admiral Geoffrey Simnett
Minister for Defence
The Democratic States of Lesser Ribena

As our naval building program has completed itself, and Starblaydia, effectively, can rule the waves, the remaning vessels are being made acceptable for international sale and we will announce any ship sale in due course.
