Apologies for the delay in posting, I've had a lot of RL stuff creep up in the last 24-48 hours. I will be getting a bid posted as soon as humanly possible.

Pacitalian bid - Host Country - AOCAF Cup XL

Scorination
Done using the latest AO Rankings, and using the latest version of NSFS (3.0.1a from what I can see).

Time between scorinations
There will be roughly 48 hours between each scorination in both stages of the tournament, with the exception of the third-place playoff, which will be scorinated roughly 24 hours after the conclusion of the semifinals. Scorination will occur in the late evening, around 11pm Pacific Daylight Time on the dates listed below.

Format
With an ideal 32 participating nations, there will be an initial group stage consisting of eight groups of four national teams. Each nation will play its group opponents once, with the top two sides in each group at the completion of the group stage advancing to the knockouts. The knockout stage will consist of a round of sixteen, a quarterfinal, a semifinal, and finals consisting of a championship match and a third-place playoff.

Should we not reach an ideal number of national team signups prior to the start of the tournament, the number of groups and their size will be adjusted accordingly, and qualification to the knockouts for lower-placed national teams may be subject to a repechage or play-in round, in place of, or in addition to, a round of sixteen.

If teams finish on the same amount of points, tiebreakers will be ordered as followed: goal differential, head to head result, number of wins, and number of goals scored. As above, if necessary to resolve a tie, a play-in match will be scheduled before the knockouts begin.

Location and RL dates
The tournament will be run on the Sports subforum of the NationStates forum, to ensure the maximum possible participation and accessibility to all nations involved. Threads will be opened approximately 72 hours before scorination of MD1, with information on groups, stadia and rankings available in the initial post.

In a 32-team format, the tournament would be structured as follows:

Group stage: May 15 (MD1), May 17 (MD2), May 19 (MD3)
Tiebreakers if necessary: May 20
Knockout stage: May 21 (Ro16), May 23 (QF), May 25 (SF), May 26 (3P), May 27 (F)

RP bonus
Roleplays will be judged on their quality rather than their quantity, as will roster posts. Nations who participate more in the tournament historically tend to improve despite their ranking at the start of the tournament, creating an incentive to roleplay and actively participate.

Hosting experience
Basketball World Cup, AO Curling Championships, AOCAF Cup 30. I have also scorinated match results on behalf of other hosts if their nations are still participating in a tournament knockout phase.

Any objections? Are the dates flexible?

Posted by: Inevitable May 11 2013, 11:59 AM
The dates do kind of hit typical British Exam Season, but I guess that can't really be helped...

Other than letting it drift into a World Cup cycle, it's kind of... Inevitable.

I like the 48-hour cut-offs a lot. Much better for regenerating between RPs.

Wednesday would be the earliest I could start scorinating, not to mention it's now only 4 days away, so that wouldn't necessarily give players enough time to post rosters and prepare to start the tournament.

Unless, of course, you're asking if I would push the tournament back by a couple of days. Whatever works for everyone.

No objection to anything here. As Wight said, leaking into the World Cup is what we hope to avoid, and this would do it, I suspect.

yea, as long as you are okay starting a few days later and keeping the same schedule, i think its fine.

MD1 on Wednesday is probably too soon, however, probably more like Friday/Saturday start is realistic.

There aren't even any World Cup Bids yet, so I don't think delaying 2-4 days is going to risk getting into World Cup territory.

Okay, so starting Saturday, May 18th, then?

May 18: MD1
May 20: MD2
May 22: MD3
May 23: Tiebreakers if necessary
May 24: Ro16
May 26: QF
May 28: SF
May 29: 3P
May 30: Final

That good with everyone?

This is the sort of schedule (2 RL days between MDs) that initially made RPing AOCAF enjoyable for me, even though I don't follow soccer/football. And, as most probably know, I don't bother with or follow the NS World Cup (and from the little I've seen of it I probably wouldn't enjoy it anyhow) so running concurrently with NSWC isn't an issue for me.

i like the 2 days bit too smile.gif

Well with no objections, Pacitalia will host AOCAF 32. I urge them to get a Roster thread up and allow 24 hours for final signups before drawing groups. There are currently 32 nations signed up but a few 'fill in' puppets that could be replaced if a new signup comes in (even if it does so after the group draw)

Sure thing, let's set the cutoff for signups to be at 12:00 pm PDT tomorrow (Thursday, May 16). Roster thread coming up.
