Formation of regional trade organisation

Recent discussions between the Prime Minister, Stephen Hawdon and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been focussed on international trade both into and out of Bazalonia. Remembering something that President Domasca said while on tour about promotion of international trade. Discussion had moved on from a Bazalonian-centric view to an international region-wide multi-lateral approach benefiting all those that join.

Of course since this would be a multi-lateral organisatio other nations would be required in it's foundation and drafting of it's charter.

A region-wide call was placed to all and sundry, actually it was not a verbal call but a call through a letter, a copy of which is included

QUOTE

To:<Ministry that deals with foreign Trade>, <Nation>
From: Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Bazalonia
Subject: Formation of a region-wide trade organisation

The Bazalonian government have been internally discussing it's international trade policy and seeing as trade is a truly international and more specific of regional importance. The idea had been raised for forming an Atlantian Oceania free trade organisation.

We believe that this could benefit all of Atlantian Oceania specifically those that decide to join the regional trade organisation. To this end we are inviting your nation to send a trade representative to Bazalonia, details are attached, to attend a multinational conference in Fauxhan to discuss the formation of such an organisation and it's charter. Please contact me if you wish to attend.

Yours Sincerly, Richard Menszae

Unified Capitalizt States Capitol Building, Altera, Capital Territory

원강지 (ʼWon Gaŋ-ji): Hey, Karl, any idea what this is about?

Karl Cook: Which letter? The one where the new CDA commander is whining about our lack of a military? The request by the World Cup Committee for us to officially recognize a national football association, and to create—uh, how do you pronounce that?—oh, “citizenship”?

원: No, this one, from Bazalonia. It says something about making a treaty for free trade, but that make absolutely no sense—why would you need a treaty for that?

Cook: I don’t know, I’ve heard they do some pretty strange things in other countries, like the government charging people for sending stuff to their nation…I don’t think they call it a tax, it’s like a “tarpit” or something…

원: Well, we might as well send someone to find out, right?

Minister Menszae,

As Starblaydia operates a system of international free trade with only reciprocal trade tariffs enforced (such as upon the United Provinces of Krytenia), we feel that a region-wide agreement to keep trade free of tariffs under normal circumstances would be beneficial to the entire region. As such, I will be attending the Fauxhan meeting to urge for an agreement to this end.

TO: Richard Menszae, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Bazalonia
FROM: Ministry of Commerce, Khazaron

Speaking on behalf of the whole ministry, and indeed the Patriarch himself, we would like to express a most eager wish to join in the discussions for the formation of an international trade agreement. We in the Dominion have recently emerged from a recession and are keen to looking into ways to continue our growth out of it. We believe that such an agreement will nurture such an increase, as well as bring about greater feelings of cooperation among the various nations in this increasingly tense region.

Please expect us to arrive within the next day or so. We will be bringing not only myself and the Sub-Minister in charge of international trade relations, but also members of the National Assembly Committee in charge of foreign trade and commerce. We hope that this conference will bring about nothing but prosperity for all parties invovled.

In the name of the Patriarch,

From: Len Heffernen, Secretary of Labor and Financial Affairs, Socialist Union of Neu Amerika

As a staunchly socialist country, the sheer idea of a regional free trade organization disinterests the Socialist Union. Having fought against capitalists in two wars, we see no need to encourage capitalism in our nation. It would be counter-revolutionary and counter productive for the Socialist Union.

As such, the Socialist Union of Neu Amerika will not be attending the conference.

Letters of confirmation of details where sent to the nations that had expressed interest in participating in the foundation of the mult-lateral trade organisation...

The following letter was sent to Neu Amerika

QUOTE

Dear Len Heffermen, Secretary of Labor and Financial Affairs, Socialist Union og Neu Amerika

We appreciate your position and thank you for taking the time to reply to our invitiation. However it is still our opinion that a region-wide free trade organisation will be the best for our nation, all it's signatory nations and Atlantia Oceania as a whole.

We look forward to being involved in diplomatic relations in other arenas.

Yours Sincerly, Richard Menszae
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade

......

It was time for the conference to get started, The BazLighters hotel had been booked out for the meeting, security sweeps had gone through the hotel top to bottom 3 times. Security surrounded the Hotel, with snipers on nearby rooftops, ground troops surrounding the hotel keeping anti freetrade protesters from both from inside and outside Bazalonia and few protesters against a number of the more dictatorial regimes.

Security was ramped up at Fauxhan International Airport with an entire concourse dedicated for the international visitors. With Woolgoolga Nationaland Leaping Bazalope Airports in Woolgoolga and Drago respectively tacking up the international slack.

Everything was prepared and there was a team of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade government officials ready to welcome the delegates that where about to come which was the only thing that was missing. It was the foreign delegates.

The nations that where currently going to be attending where...

and Neu Amerika had shown ideological opposition to the idea though it is currently unknown how they would react when the meeting was finished and the formation of the region-wide free trade organisation was established. Political observers are taking a wait and see approach.

Even transferring the Starblaydi Financial Minister was a crucial security operation. The government-use Starblaydi Airlines jetliner was flanked by interceptors, electronic intelligence aircraft and a tanker. All aircraft, upon landing were laid out at the Leaping Bazalope airport in Drago, crucial engines, radar domes and other secretive equipment quickly covered by heavy cloth to protect them from curious eyes.

Lord Juan Bruntos - tall, well-built and shaven headed - and his aides, Venator guards and associated press members, were met by the Starblaydi Ambassador to Bazalonia and proceeded, in convoy with Bazalonian police escort, to the BazLighters Hotel.

"Ah," Juan said, peering out of the tinted glass window, "so that's what protesters look like up close. Rabble, just like in the intelligence photos."

He turned up the air conditioning in the back seat and continued on his way.

To : Richard Menszae, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade
From : Nicholas Saunders, Minister for Foreign Affairs
Subject : Trade Delegation

In recent times Qutar's economy has been suffering a slow-down and as a result the government of the time put into place isolationist policies. We feel that now that Qutar's economy is growing strongly again, the time is right to enter back into international trade, and the organisation you propose is, we feel, a very good idea. As such we will be sending myself, Geraint Kozel the Minister for the Economy and Prime Minister Peter Stone. My only question concerns the security arrangements, we will be sending our own security department, but we were wondering since the meeting is in your country whether we can work in conjuction with your security forces who obviously know the area much better.

Yours Sincerely

We welcome the delegation from the islands of Qutar to this meeting and we also recognise that due to the high-level of your delegation that extra security may need to be in place. I will have an officer from the Bazalonian Federal Police, Protection and Escort Division to get in contact with you regarding the details of the security collaboration.

I look forward to seeing your delegation and looking for further co-operation in other matters as well.

“Sir, we are now on final approach to Fauxhan International.”

Dieter Turan, the Autocracy’s Minister of Commerce, glanced out the window of the sleek jet, decked out in its blue and white livery. Bazalonia was rushing up to meet the craft as it started it’s decent. Since the Autokrator’s untimely death Hypocrium had become a hive of plotting and politicking as various candidates manoeuvred themselves towards the vacant seat of power. Hopefully this conference would prove a welcome break from grown men bickering amongst themselves.
