Please use this thread to post your team(s) roster(s) for AORBC II, as well as any RP posts. There will be an RP bonus added into the simulation, so you will stand a better chance of success if you do post something. Rankings count toward the simulation too, but we'd like to see some good RPing here. Anyway, the first RP bonus will be given toward day one if you at least post a roster. Rosters should include player's name, jersey number, and height.

Size Does Matter

Emory Mastella pored over records from the 1st AOBC, at times pulling out his hair. Queen Sonya had given him the job of putting men's and women's basketball teams together that would actually compete in the second tourney.

Nine teams had indicated a desire to compete for the men's title this time around, while the women's pool had grown from two - four. Looking at the scores from the previous tourney, several things stood out that would have to be addressed on the men's side (the women only played one game so not much info to go on there)

Five ranked teams returned to join 4 newcomers this time around. The 3rd through 5th ranked teams of Nedalia, Myrtannia, and Khazaron showed great balance and the ability to adapt to the type of game being played by the opponent. That would be hard to contend with.

2nd ranked ASMV showed the most explosive offense of the first tourney, averaging over 100 points per games until the finals. Top ranked Lamoni was a different story all together. They boasted the best defense of the first tourney, even shutting down the normal points assault that the Hoop Dragons were known for.

Now the problem was how to deal with all of that and be competitive. The answer was simple for Mastella. Size. And with an average team height of nearly 6'8, the Mystics would have plenty of that. Only two players on the roster were under 6'5 - and the three 7 footers on the roster would make a definate impact.

And then came the group draw, which was very nice all things considered. The favorites in the group would have to be those high-flying Hoop Dragons and their potent offense. But no other ranked teams made the group. The third team would be Geisenfried, another new team with a massive front line. But as they are untested as well as we are, we do feel comfortable with our chances of beating them and possibly grabbing one of those coveted playoff spots. The key of course will be how well we can use our size to stop both Geisenfried and ASMV.

The women's side is much more wide open. Myrtannia beat ASMV in the only women's game of the first tourney. And we open women's play against ASMV. Who knows how that one will come out.

They're Baaack! Myrtrannian Roundball Teams Suit Up for AORBCII

HALOSEN, Myrtannia - It's been a while, but the Second Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship is set to begin in 24 hours or so. The first event brought inter regional attention to Myrtannia, if somewhat breifly, and the Allied States are looking forward to the second time around. In the men's division, there's one more team than before, and in the women's the field has doubled from 2 to 4.

On the men's ('main event' to some) side, the team formerly known as the Nationals is now known as the Suns, a nod to the gridball team that lost due to a controversial, most likely flawed call in the semi-finals after going 5-0. Also, 'Suns' just sounded better, as coach Al-Hakim told the press.

"It rolls off the tongue so much better.. try it - Nationals.. or Suns... see the difference," the coach of the Fourth ranked Myrtannian team told the press.

This time around, the Suns have most of their vets of AORBC I returning to do battle once again on the hardwood, hoping to do better than the first time around. After going 4-2, the Myrtannians lost two in a row to ASMV and then Nedalia to finish 4-4, and in fourth place. Now, the Suns are looking to get to the podium, and have added a trio of new faces from the Mytrannian Basketball League.

Amongst them is reserve forward Irwin Bartmettler, the MBL's sixth-man award winner last season and a talented swingman when shooting the ball, as well as a scrappy defender. Also joining the team is new starting PG Kirby Rylant, a second-year star who led Damascos to the MBL Finals, something they'd never done before. He's expected to pass the ball more often then shoot it, and to pick up some steals along the way. Finally, there's the big man - the replacement for the weak link on the AORBC I edition Nationals - all seven and a half feet of rookie center Vito Munise. The MBL Rookie of the Year, Munise averaged a double-double (26.7 PPG, 15 RBG), and was the first rookie to lead the league in blocks.

The Suns face a difficult Group draw, as they enter Group B with a newcomer to AORBC, who probably won't be a problem, but the other team in B will. No less than the defending AORBC champion Lamoni Hawks, led by the undersized but super-talented Hugh Humber. It should come down to a battle for first in the group between Myrtannia and Lamoni, with the champs winning the group. Myrtannia has a bye on day one, and will open up play against Iksonic on day two.

On the other side of the floor is the pride of Myrtannian basketball - the defending regional champion Dryads. Granted they only played one game in AORBC I, but the Dryads look set to make a strong run at a second consecutive title. With two bench players retiring since AORBC I, the Dryads replaced them with a pair of second-year players, including forwards Margaret Averbach and Tempie Vandenbagh. The other newbie, and another rookie, is new starting center Ping Seek, the 'token' big woman of the WMBL at 6'7". She takes over the spot that current starting PF Sara Golden held in AORBC I. The shift in positions, coach Dakkon, explained, was to give the Dryads better size against the two newcomers in the women's division.

In the women's division, the top two finishers <i>should</i> be ASMV and Myrtannia, but as we all know, anything can happen. Geisenfried is new to AO sporting competitions, but could make a statement if they find a way to win against Myrtannia on the opening day of women's basketball. Dorian and Sonya usually field spirited teams, and should be a challenger for the crown of AORBC II Women's Champions.

Hoop Dragons Ready To Play

The Hoop Dragons return to the AOBC with one simple goal - Avenge a finals loss in AOBC 1 to the Hawks of Lamoni and their undersized superstar Hugh Humber. That means that ASMV does intend to crush all competition en route to obtaining that goal.

AOBC II see 5 seeded teams return for some action as well as 4 newcomers to the hard court. Lamoni, of course, will be the team to beat here. But ASMV's #2 ranking will also have a bullseye painted on their backs. Khazaron, Myrtannia, and Nedalia will also be looking to improve on their finishes last time around.

Now for the group ASMV was given to return to the playoffs through:

Dorian and Sonya. Newcomers to the Ao sports scene, but always spunky. And it would seem very Large. 3 players over 7' will look to eliminate the inside presence of Robby Malla and Alvaro Nouri. Luckily we dont look to score inside as often as some with the balzing firepower of Nolan Garrigus and Kendi Ayudan beginning on the perimeter for an outside-in attack.

Geisenfried. Another team with a huge front line. But these guys can score, too. 101 points in their 1st game against D&S matched the Hoop Dreagon average for the first tourney. We will count on Malla's 20 rebounds per game to eliminate their second chance points.

It all boils down to us handling our business. If we play up to the potential we have, then we should easily move into the next round. But you can bet that D&S and Geisenfried will be looking for the upset.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for the women's tourney. We actually have one this time around. Geisenfried and Dorian and Sonya both enter the competition with BIG things to prove. A massive front line from Geisenfried and a massive entire team from D&S have already caused Myrtannia to adjust their personell to match up against the bigger girls the two newcomers will put on the court. At leat Myrtannia is worried about that. We are not. All that size comes with a drawback - loss of speed. The Lady Dragons will look to use that advantage as we attempt to litterally run the feet off of them. If things work according to plan, we should own the 4th quarter of every game, giving us the distinct advantage. There is one drawback though. If the other teams keep us from playing our running style - two words - utter defeat. We dont have near enough size to match up with any of the 3 teams in a half-court game.

Ulric leads Lancers over Dorian & Sonya
Forward Dumps 41 on Mystics, Establishes Presence

NINIISTO, MYRTANNIA- Southeast of Geisenfried, across the Taaru Sea, lies the small, friendly nation of Myrtannia. For the next couple of weeks, they will play host to some of the best and wildest basketball on the planet, as the Second Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship, or AORBC II, gets underway. Among the teams competing are Geisenfried's own men's national team, the Lancers, as well as their female counterpart, the Lady Lancers, who seek to put Geisenfried into the regional sporting scene.

The Lancers started on the right foot yesterday, beating the Dorian and Sonya Mystics 101-91 in Elimico Stadium last night. Leading the way for the Lancers was small forward Johann Ulric, who hammered the opposing Mystics with 41 points, dominating his counterparts both offensively and defensively for the entirety of the game. Trailing behind him, shooting guard Bernhard Ostermark and center Luther Adabold combined for another 40 points, with 22 and 18, respectively. Rounding out the starting five was power forward Andrew Sigmar's 8 points and point guard Roger Altdorf's 5 points. From the bench, guard/forward Lothar Midden scored 3 points, and both guard Franz Aver and forward/center Clement Marien scored 2 points for the 101 total.

The game was controlled from beginning to end by the Lancers, who burst out of the gates for an 11-0 lead, and pretty much maintained it for the entire game. In a post game interview, head coach Adrian Kislev stated, "It was an excellent game for our players. I can't say enough on how well Johann played for us. If he can continue this, there will be no doubt in my or anyone else mind that he is one of the premier players in our nation, region, heck, even the world. The defense was great, especially in the beginning, and the offense was amazing. I wish it wasn't so highscoring, but we got more than them, and that's the point, right?"

The Lancers have a bye before playing the divisional powerhouse Andossa Se Mitrin Vega Hoop Dragons. The Lady Lancers' competition starts after the next round of men's games, with their first opponent being the hometown team and regional champion Myrtannia Dryads.

Box Score:
Lancers 101, Mystics 91

Hawks start on a roll

The defending champion Lamoni Hawks started the AORBC II with a solid 96-77 victory over newcomers Iksonic.

The Hawks will again be sporting a defense oriented team, and with the looks of some of the other teams, they'll need it. Dorian & Sonya for example, are using a lot of tall people in an effort to make it to the knockouts. Don't forget that the other AORBC ranked teams will all be looking to show up the Hawks on their way to 'trying' to claim the title. This of course means that Lamoni will have a HUGE imaginary painted bulls-eye on their backs.

Undersized superstar Hugh Humber has returned to the second AORBC, and looks to even IMPROVE on his impressive performance in the first AORBC. As you might recall, Hugh provided a lot of points to the Hawk's trophy run. He also provided key defensive plays; like the blocked shot against ASMV that won the trophy.

Lamoni has been placed in Group B for AORBC II; with Iksonic, and our Myrtannian neighbors rounding out the group. In our opinion, both Lamoni and Myrtannia will give Iksonic the business. Of course, Iksonic could always surprise people, so we won't rule it out. Still, with the Hawk victory over Iksonic, Myrtannia is being considered Lamoni's biggest group threat.

"We can beat them [Myrtannia]," said Hugh Humber, "but the games against Myrtannia should be fairly close. Myrtannia finished fourth in AORBC I, and will be doing their best to improve on that rank.

Here are the Group B standings so far:

Group B (wins/losses/GB)
Lamoni: 1-0, --
Myrtannia: 0-0, N/A
Iksonic: 0-1, 0.5

Lamoni - 96
Iksonic - 77

Suns Ready For Action; Day One Over and Done

SKALATUR, Fergot Province - As Day One of the Second Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship got underway, the 'home team' rested up and practiced casually at a local high school. The Myrtannia Suns, ranked fourth in the region after losing the third place match to Nedalia in AORBC I, are primed and ready for action. Guard Rahir Abdul, the star of the inagural Myrtannian team in AORBC I, was drilling long range shots like nobody's business. If anything, it seems that he's gotten better since the first AORBC.

"This tournament started in Myrtannia, and we did fairly well last time, considering it was our first tournament in AO at all," Abdul said, "But we're always trying to improve ourselves - this time, we're going to make every effort to crack the top three in the regional rankings."

The Suns may have a very good shot at making the knockouts - though the group includes defending champion Lamoni, it also includes an Iksonic squad that got itself steamrolled by the champs on day one. Hugh Humber looks tougher than ever, and the Hawks easily strolled away with the 96-77 win over the group's only newcomers. It remains to be seen if the Suns' answer to the undersized but explosive center is the correct one.

The tallest player in AORBC II at 7'6", much has been made of Vito Munise, the middle man for the Suns. He'll get his first inter-regional action against Iksonic on Day Two, before the first showdown with the champion Hawks. Munise has remained eerily quiet so far, mostly spending his time practicing rebounding and free throw shooting.

In other AORBC action, Group A's Day One game saw two returning squads battle it out at Ah-Harim Memorial Colessium in Damascos. Nedalia, last tourney's third best team, went down to Khazaron as the Silver Sharks took a close fought 90-85 victory. Over at Elimico Court in Niniisto, a battle of newcomers took place, in which the Geisenfried Lancers defeated the Dorian and Sonya Mystics by a final tally of 101-91.

Mystics drop first two games

In game 1, the Mystics struggled through their first international basketball game. Lancer forward dropped in 41 points as he single-handedly made the difference in a 101-91 defeat of the Mystics.

On a good note for our team, things were very balanced. Trenton Reents led D&S with 16 points as 7 players scored in double digits. That kind of balance will be key as the Mystics try to recover from the early 0-2 hole they are now in. Only that kind of unselfish team play will make the difference.

Game 2 saw the Mystics run in to a very powerful offensive styled Hoop Dragons team that was fresh off a bye date, while the toll of back-to back games clearly showed for us. And guess what? We were actually competitive. Once again 7 players passed the double digit mark as the 7' tank in the middle led the attack with 19 points. But in the end D&S fell to the #2 ranked team in the tourney 104-93. The bye date will be welcomed as we regroup for a chance to beat the Lancers.

As Lamoni, Bazalonia, and Geisenfried offered no visuals for uniforms they might be wearing during the tourney, Sabre Inc has released these concept uniform replicas for sale in selected markets. The standard rate of royalty payments will be made to each nation's team concerning any sales of the concepts.

OOC - Problem. It was completely uncool to post the second day's scores just 13 hours after posting the first day's scores. That timeframe does not allow people to get in and make their RPs for the one before another is already done and waiting. Completely inconsiderate. Only 4 of 9 participants had a chance to RP. D&S, Bazalonia, Nedalia, Khazaron, and Iksonic did not have a chance to get their RP (and its bonus) before the next scores were up. D&S and Bazalonia always RP everything, and Khazaron RPd alot during AOBC I. Keep an eye on that sort of thing, please. Be fair with the time you post being consistent.

IC -

Hoop Dragons Off To Flying Start

ASMV picked up just where they had been during AOBC I by scoring 104 points in their first game of AOBC II. It was a very good sign for a team with its sights set on a return to the finals and a chance to avenge that loss to Lamoni.

Things started off slowly for the Hoop Dragons as The Mystics took a 23-17 1st quarter lead. And the D&S theory of "Size Matters" proved itself again as the lead was pushe to 9 points by the half.

The halftime rant by coach Donovan Arturo must have been a good one for the Hoop Dragons came out on fire as Garrigus and Ayudan combined for 27 points in the quarter and ASMV found a 1 point lead at the end of 3.

The 4th quarter saw a tired Mystic team fall apart. Garrigus and Ayudan continued hitting shots and Alvaro Nouri actually came to life as ASMV ran away to an 11 point victory.

"We played decent." said Arturo following the game. "We didnt show up to play and D&S took advantage of that early. We have to play better than this if we want to win this thing."

Nolan Garrigus led ASMV with 31 points while Ayudan scored 29. Nouri added 19 of his own along with 6 blocks in the game. Fidel Casano led the team with 13 assists and Robby Malla had a bad day as he collected just 15 boards, down 6 from his average.

Next up is a date with the Lancers of Geisenfried. They looked impressive in their first game against D&S, but had better bring their dancing shoes if they want to play Cinderella. Their star, Ulric will need a huge night or its going to be a long one for them. 41 might not do it this time.

Geisenfried would prefer a lower scoring game. Only Lamoni has ever done that to us, and I dont see Hugh Humber on the Lancer roster.

"And welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your Host Denis Rainy and I can tell you that even if it was raining it is shining for the Dribbling Bazalopes tonight. Why you ask? Well let's go to the highlights of their first game against Khazaron."

<Video clips played of Khazaron gaining an early lead, no Bazalonian goals shown>

"The game was dominated early in the first half as Khazaron showed their experience scoring 17 unanswered points, 1 of those was the result of a foul being drawn by the Khazaron attack against Hobbs in the 2nd minute of play. However the Bazalopes turned this around and managed to claw back some points. The score at the end of the first quarter was Khazaron 23 - Bazalonia 12. Still plenty of goals to pick up but the momentum had started to shift."

"In fact the Bazalopes dominated the 2nd quarter and had surpassed the Khazaron score and was in the lead for the first time in the game, but only slightly. Halftime score Khazaron 37, Bazalopes 39. But this was short lived as the Khazaron team kicked into overdrive."

<video played of Khazaonian goals intersperese with a few Bazalonian goals>

"The Khazonians took back the lead but the Bazalopes still where not far behind. At the end of the 3rd quarter it was Khazaron 63 Bazalonia 54. The Khazonians started to increase the lead blowing out the difference to 19, until a freak 3-pointer from Daniel Death revitalised the team. And from then on the Dribbling Bazalopes where unstoppable."

<Video of Daniels 3 pointer followed by basket after basket after Basket. All Bazalonian>

"And with this amazing finish the Dribbling Bazalopes ended in the game 9 points ahead Khazaron 74 - Bazalonia 83. The first win of their AORBC campaign in their first match. Their next opponent will be Nedalia which our opponents beat by 5 points. Thus if my mathematics is correct then a 14 goal win should e expected but as you know Basketball is not like that. Though I have yet to comment on the team uniform, there was none until just hours before the game and the team was unsure what they where to wear. If they didn't have a uniform soon then they would have to forfeit but thanks to Sabre Inc. of Dorian and Sonya the uniforms where made and delivered to the team just in the nick of Time. Thank you Sabre Inc. This is Denis Rainy and you have been watching the BazSports Highlight coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship".

OOC: Thanks D&S Bazalonia will definately be wearing those

OOC: Sorry about the lack of time between score postings. I work odd hours, and wasn't sure when, or if, I would be able to post scores today. I will try to post scores during the evening of the scheduled matchday from now on. Again, sorry for the inconsiderate nature of the posting - it won't happen again, I swear upon my honor as tournament host.

Lamoni signs uniform deal with D&S' Sabre Inc.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e228/Sonya0111/LamoniBasketball.gif

Impressed with the look and quality of the concepts put out by the Dorian & Sonya company Sabre Inc., the Lamonian AORBC team has contracted them to create their concept. The Hawks will be sporting the new uniform during their match with Myrtannia; and while the financial details of the deal have not yet been released, it is known that they had a choice between two possible uniforms. It is unknown as yet who created the other uniform choice for Lamoni, but rumor says that the company in question is based in Myrtannia.

To summarize, Lamoni's AORBC squad has new duds from Sabre Inc., and now they'll look good while dominating everyone else in the tournament.

Suns Thrash Ik, Fall to Hawks; Dryads Set to Defend Title

SKALATUR, Fergot - Myrtannia's AORBC II experience has shown already that the Suns need to improve their consistency if they hope to improve on their fourth place finish in AORBC I. Their opening night debuted a good Suns squad, wearing new uniforms designed by MH Inc. of Scandon Island. Of course, the Suns were facing an untested, inexperienced Iksonic team, so it wasn't much of a contest after the first five minutes.

After falling to defending champion Lamoni 96-77 on opening day, Iksonic battled hard in the first five minutes of the game against the Suns, taking a 17-13 lead at one point. That was to be their biggest lead, as Myrtannia came back to tie, and then take the lead for good. As the Suns dominated the floor, Rahir Abdul returned to his AORBC I form, lighting up the scoreboard from inside, outside, and all over. He would finish with 42 points, 12 assists, and 5 steals.

The other big story in the Iksonic match was 7'6" Vito Munise, who played well through three quarters of play. In his time on the floor, Vito ruled the paint - grabbing a monstrous 15 boards, scoring 25 points, and blocking 11 shots (a Myrtannia national team record). He left the game after the third complaining of pain in his ankle and did not return. By then, it was Myrtannia up 82-64, and the game's result wasn't in doubt. Led by 16 fourth quarter points from Abdul, the Suns stormed to a 101-80 blowout over Iksonic.

Day Three had something different in mind for the Suns. Going up against Lamoni and their superstar center Hugh Humber, the Suns didn't have the man they'd hoped would be the answer to the dominating Hawk. Vito Munise dressed in street clothes for the game, a decision made by coach Al-Hakim at game time.

"He was hurting a bit too much during the shoot-around. Vito wanted to go out there, but I told him he had to rest his ankle one more night. We still have two games and possibly the knockouts left," Al-Hakim explained after the game.

Not having 'Vito-Power' as fans have taken to writing on signs ended up spelling the Suns' doom against the solid Hawks. Myrtannia made a game of it after slouching in the first half, but Lamoni was able to stay ahead the whole way. The Suns never led, and tied the game twice during their offensive spurts. Rahir Abdul continued his strong play, dropping 39 on the defensive-minded Hawks, but he couldn't make up for the difference in talent at the center position.

In Munise's place was backup Ghraham Ryall, who succeeded in scoring 6 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and fouling out midway through the third quarter. His replacement, PF Randolph Tulberg, tried but failed to keep up with the unstoppable looking Humber. When the dust cleared, Lamoni took a 102-95 win and sole posession of first place in Group B. Vito Munise is expected to practice with the team on Day 4, and be ready for action again on Day 5.

Meanwhile, the defending women's champion Myrtannia Dryads are set for action as the Women's division of the AORBC opens up on Day Four. After solid practices, the Dryads are hoping to prove their title win last time wasn't a fluke. Up first is Gesienfried, whose men's team shocked ASMV on Day Three and is at this writing undefeated.

"The Lady Lancers might surprise some people - they've got the size to compete with anyone in the tournament, so we've got to watch ourselves. We've got experience, but Geisenfried has proven that that doesn't neccessarily mean anything on the court," said Tully Stiles, the Drayds' starting PG.

Hoop Dragons Drop Shocker To Who?

ASMV came into AOBC II with its eyes on one goal - A Championship. A 105-93 loss to Geisenfried today has reminded the team that every game must be played in order to get there.

The Hoop Dragons started slow again, but this time never got things going. It didnt help matters that Garrigus and Ayudan were put in early foul trouble with questionable calls, and Robby Malla had a massive sunburn due to a day "relaxing on the river".

Following the defeat, the team was sent back onto the court for a six hour practice that left everyone on the team looking for oxygen bottles. Do not expect the lack of effort in this one to repeat itself again.

Leading the way for ASMV was Center Alvaro Nouri who put up an impressive 63 points in a literal one man show.

Coach Donavan Arturo had this to say following the game: "There is absolutely no excuse for us handing the Lancers a win, regardless of the situation. This was pitiful at its very best. These guys will get their heads out of their hind parts or my foot will be joing them there for good. No further comments. Get the hell out of my way. We have a practice to run."

The Lady Dragons will begin action tomorrow against a very large and powerful D&S Lady Mystics team. We have no hope of matching up with them inside, so the plan is to run. and then run. And after that, guess what. Run some more. Hopefully the plan will work.

Mystics Ready for Revenge - Lady Mystics Set to begin Play

0-2 in the first two games has left the Mystics in a hole they will have a hard time climbing out of. The first step in doing that will be to wreak revenge on a Lancer team that beat us by ten on opening day.

The Mystics do have one thing going for them though. Balance. 7 players are averaging double digits thus far, meaning that there is no weakness in the offense if the defense can manage to hold the opponents under the century mark. Look for D&S to use that balance as they try to keep the Lancer defence guessing.

The Lady Mystics are ready to begin play in their opening match against an under-sized team from ASMV. Size and power says it all for the Lady Mystics and they will be looking to slow the lady Dragons down to a half-court style of play where the size of D&S will overpower the smaller women they will face. If ASMV can get into the open court, it could spell trouble for our team as that is not the way they are built to play.

In other news, Sabre Inc has announced new deals with Lamoni and Bazalonia. The concept uniforms were welcomed and accepted by both teams. The Lamoni deal is a major step for Sabre Inc as they look to expand into foreign markets for all sporting attire. Two kits have actually been contracted by Bazalonia, although their market is signifigantly less impacting than that of Lamoni. The uniforms for the AOBC II as well as a special kit for the memorial friendly match to be played between Bazalonia and ASMV have been commisioned. The financial details of each deal were not released, but they do make big noise for Sabre Inc. Thanks for the support of our products.

"Welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your host Denis Rainy. Today the Dribbling Bazalopes continued to 'upset the apple cart' with another close win against the Nedalian basketball team. Bazalonia is the only unranked team in the tournament that has 2 ranked teams in it's group but this fact did not stop the team against 3rd in the region, Nedalia."

"The game was very close in the first quarter every goal scored by either team where countered by the other, Nedalia taking the first points of the game as they started with the ball."

<Video of Nedalia scoring, Bazalonia, Nedalia, Bazalonia, etc... in a see-sawing affair>

"Nedalia, ended the first quarter 3 points up thanks to an amazing 3-point shot that remained unanswered as the Dribbling Bazalopes ran out of time, the score was Nedalia 24 - Bazalonia 21."

<Video of Nedalian 3-point shot>

"The second quarter saw the Nedalians kick up a gear. scoring 13 of the 20 goals, however two of the Dribbling Bazalopes goals where 3 pointers."

<Video of the Bazalonian three pointers>

"Still the quarter was certainly Nedalian-dominated with the scoreline 51- 37. The Dribbling Bazalopes where 14 points behind at the half and it seemed that all was lost, if it wasn't for Trevor Assington who scored 14 of Bazalonian points in this quarter. This quarter the Bazalopes and they had the lead at three-quarter time, a lead of 4. Nedalia 70 - Bazalonia 74 "

<Video of Trevor Assington scoring goals, each of this 7 goals, one which was a mangicent slam>

"The last quarter was a much more even affair, though the Dribbling Bazalopes did manage to extend their lead to a total of 8 points at the full time buzzer. Though the Nedalian team did make them work hard for it. Final Score Nedalia 88 - Bazalonia 96."

<Video of the few choicer goals scored by both Nedalia and Bazalonia>

"This win has made Bazalonia 2 games up on the 3rd and 5th ranked nations in the region. The team should be able to pull this off once again as during the Next game the Dribbling Bazalopes will play Khazaron. This is Denis Rainy and you have been watching the BazSports Highlight coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship."

Lancers Slay Hoop Dragons, 105-93
Geisenfried Shocks #2 ASMV, Even Without Top Center Adabold

NINIISTO, MYRTANNIA- When they first came to Myrtannia, the Geisenfried Lancers were expecting a championship. Though it seemed unlikely at first, the Lancers have made, and are continuing to make a strong case for themselves, as they are undefeated halfway through the divisional round. Yesterday, they stepped closer to an AORBC II championship while setting back the #2 team in the region, the Andossa Se Mitrin Vega Hoop Dragons, winning 105-93.

The team's top center, Luther Adabold, however, could not share in his teammates' victory, having come back home to visit his ailing father, who recently suffered a heart attack. He was sorely missed, as the backup center Henrik Drakwald struggled to contain the Hoop Dragon center Alvaro Nouri, who led ASMV in scoring, landing a whopping 63 points, two thirds of his entire team's total score. Luckily for the Lancers, Adabold plans to be back for their next game against the Dorian & Sonya Mystics, who were defeated by the Lancers 101-91 a couple days ago.

Small forward Johann Ulric continued to lead the offensive effort for the Lancers, sinking a huge percentage of his shots to get 50 points on the Hoop Dragons. Shooting guard Bernhard Ostermark also did remarkably well, scoring 39 points for the Lancers. Power forward Andrew Sigmar scored 8 points, while point guard Roger Altdorf scored 6. Center Henrik Drakwald, the sub for Adabold, scored only 2 points. The bench had limited playing time, and scored no points for the victorious Lancers.

After the game, head coach Adrian Kislev commented, "This is great for us. The Hoop Dragons can make all the excuses they want, but tonight, we were definitely the better team." Seeing his coach being interviewed and hearing his comment, forward Andrew Sigmar came in and interjected, "And we'll prove we're the better team the next time we play them too." After this statement, Kislev said to Sigmar, "Remember, though self-confidence has never hurt anyone, inflated egos have. Don't you forget we still have to play the Mystics and don't let them do to us what we did to the Hoop Dragons, and get caught looking ahead too far. One game at a time, Andrew." The forward gave a nod and left.

The Lancers' next game is against the Dorian & Sonya Mystics, as previously stated. Though they are noted for their remarkably well balanced offense, if they fail to find an answer for Johann Ulric, the Lancers' star small forward, it may not matter. The Lady Lancers, meanwhile, are preparing for their first game, against the hometown team and regional champion Myrtannia Dryads.

KNN Sports Coverage of AORBC II

The Silver Sharks are back at it again in this, the second Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. Concerns where high going into the first game against the Nedalia Lions. The Sharks new head coach Kenny Laris, who has replaced the now retired Tristan Ulvec, stated that their plan from the beginning had been to play conservatively in the first few minutes of the game. "What got us those previous two losses against them in the last tournament was our reckless agression against their seasoned players. Most of our guys hadn't had nearly as much experience and therefore where trounced. This time we wanted to feel them out and get to know their game-plan." said Laris.

Unfortunately for the Sharks, the new plan seemed to do little against the Lions as at half-time, the Lions had 61 and the Sharks had 53. For the first minute of the third quarter, Sharks guards Theodore Avraham and Brant Talin seemed to be sticking to the same as usual defensive plan, waiting for the Lions to slip up. While working better than last time, it was clear that their defensive posture would get them nowhere, since the Lions where already ahead. Coach Laris called a time-out three and a half minutes into the third. "I basically told Teddy and Brant to keep up what they where doing while calling Armel and Paul to push forward with Kwame and give the Lions defense a run for there money." replied Laris.

It seemed to come together beautifuly as the Lions where caught off guard by the sudeen offensive in the previously sluggish Sharks. By the end of the third quarter, the score was Lions 75, Sharks 77. Things seemed to get desperate with the Lions as Kwame Munroe managed to score three 3-point shots in rapid succession, raising the score to 86, with the Lions trailing by 11 points only 1 minute into the fourth quarter. With tensions getting high between both teams, a scuffle was bound to occur. Forward Paul Nusik was taken out of the game after multiple fouls agains the opposing team. Despite that however the Sharks managed to score one more 3-pointer and a free-throw to secure their win of the game.

"Emotions where definately high after that game." said Laris. "We had slain one of our unconquerable giants fromt he last tournament. We got too relaxed and were expecting of having an easy time taking on the Bazalopes the next day. However they proved us wrong as they were just as strong as any team we've faced off against to date."

When he was questioned what the Sharks would be doing with their off time from the tournament, Coach Laris replied with a laugh. "Drills, drills and more drills. If we're not sleeping, we are drilling or playing." Next up the Silver Sharks are due to face off against the Bazalopes again. The outcome seems to be uncertaint to the fans, as both appear evenly matched so far. "The one benefit to having lost to the Bazalopes the first time around is we can look and see what we did wrong and correct that. Meanwhile looking at where their plays had holes in them and exploiting those next time around." said Assitant Coach Anderson Amari.

The Silver Sharks and Bazalopes face off again tonight at 11p.m. at the Ah-Harim Memorial Collessium in Damscos.

Hawks go 2-0

In this high scoring game against hosts Myrtannia, the Hawks made a strong case for defending their AORBC I championship. At no point in the contest did Lamoni allow Myrtannia to lead; but there was two times when the score was tied. Myrtannia's "answer" for C Hugh Humber was injured; which resulted in Hugh having another tremendous game. This guy is so good, we wonder why they bothered to send the rest of the team! Okay, so he might not be able to take on an entire team by himself, but he's the best basketball player that this region has yet seen. The best part of the deal is that he is young, so Lamonian fans should have a long term relationship with their superstar.

The Hawks were also very happy with the uniforms which were made by Sabre Inc.; a Dorian & Sonya company. The certain rush of Lamonian consumers to buy replicas of the new Lamonian AORBC uniforms should bring in a vast influx of capital to the company, and might well start a long term contract for Lamonian sporting apparel. We have heard a rumor that the Lamonian government will soon be requesting an embassy exchange with Dorian & Sonya.

The Hawks face Iksonic next, and while the Hawks are not expecting the game to be easy, they also think that they stand a very good chance of winning. After that match, the Hawks have another day off, followed by a rematch with hosts Myrtannia. Maybe the Myrtannian C will be healthy by then? It would be exciting to pit Humber against Vito Munise.

Lamoni 102
Myrtannia 95

Group B standings:

Group B (W/L/GB)
Lamoni: 2-0, --
Myrtannia: 1-1, 1.0
Iksonic: 0-2, 1.5

Mystical Day in the AOBC

Both D&S teams won today! A great day for the Kingdom.

In the men's matchup, the Mystics avenged an opening day loss by handing the Lancers a 102-97 defeat, ruining both the chance for Geisenfried to go undefeated and D&S to keep on track for a winless campaign.

Balance was again the key as the Mystics had by far their best offensive showing of AOBC II. Hunter Pomainville led the team with 17 and 12 boards while Trenton Reents dropped 16 points while dishing out 12 assists. 5 other players scored in double figures for a completely balanced attack. Cleo Enzor (14 points, 7 assists),
Silas Drugan (13 points, 9 boards, 4 blocks), Carlo Stauss (12 points, 6 steals), Kirby Capata (11 points, 2 steals, 4 assists), and Kurtis Cullar (10 points, 15 boards, 3 assists, 3 blocks) all showed why D&S is such a dangerous foe on the court. Not many teams in the world can bost that kind of balance. Harris "Sinister" Glenister also added 9 points in his first action of the tourney. There are big expectations for this 16 year old phenom.

Next up for the men's team is a rematch with the mighty Hoop Dragons. The balance our team shows should pose major problems for ASMV, who relies on 3 primary offensive threats, especially now that the "team first" philosophy has proved itself. But ASMV is coming off a bye and a big loss to the Lancers and will be looking to prove a point- starting with us.

In women's action, the Lady Mystics beat the Lady Dragons of ASMV (also a point that will not sit well with them) 82-80. As promised, ASMV looked to run the floor with every chance they got. And it almost worked - but not quite.

The Lady Mystics fell behind early as ASMV was hot from the start. A 23-11 first quarter score did nothing to diminish the spirits of the D&S team, however and by halftime the lead had benn cut to just 8. Then the big girls for D&S went to work. And as the game slowed down, predictions of D&S dominance in the half-court came true as ASMV fell apart trying to handle the whole "Size does matter" issue.

Genevie Servatius led D&S with 19 points while massive Ngan Delosa scored 17 while collecting 16 boards and hammering out 11 blocks on shorter Lady Dragons that insisted on trying to challenge her inside. The D&S rotation of 6 players 6'4 and taller proved to be the difference as ASMV was reduced to jacking up 3s for much of the game, with little success.

Next up for the Lady Mystics are the Lady Lancers of Geisenfried who dropped their opener to Myrtannia 78-73. We can expect this to be a great game.

Lady Dragons Follow Men's Example - And Lose

The plan was to run, and run some more. That plan worked to perfection in the first half of the game with D&S. The from the first half was for 90+ points. And then ASMV ran in the second half - right into a brick wall named Ngan Delosa.

The 6'8 center for the Lady Mystics dominated the play in the second half, sending shot after shot screaming for the stands. ASMV had to settle for perimeter shots that simply refused to fall. The final result - D&S left the court with a well-earned 82-80 win.

Next up for the Lady Dragons is a rematch of the AOBC I's only women's game (which we lost too). The Dryads of Myrtannia who defeated the Lady Lancers earlier today. 0-2 for the Lady Dragons in regional play. Not a good sign when you are playing a team that is 2-0 in such games - esp if they have already beaten you before.

The Hoop Dragons will take on the Mystics of D&S who they beat by 11 points in their first meeting. But since then things have dramatically changed. ASMV shockingly lost to the Lancers by 12 points as Alvaro Nouri exploded for 63 worthless points. The came the most impressive performance of the AOBC thus far. D&S put 7 players in double figures (an 8th had 9 points). Anytime you see that kind of diversity in an offense, it makes you very nervous about having to play them.

The letters K...S...B appear on the screen, underneath which are, in a much smaller font size, the words Khazaronian Sports Broadcasting. The logo quickly fades away to a clip from last nights game between the Bazalopes and the Silver Sharks. The score is dead even, Bazalopes 100, Sharks 100, with only 30 seconds left in the game. Head Coach Laris of the Sharks had just used the teams last time-out to try and plan a final offensive. It is evident from the looks on the faces of both teams that neither of them want this to go into overtime.

The buzzer rings and timeout is over, both teams filing back onto the court, tension becoming so thick that one could cut it with a knife. The ball is tossed and Kwame Munroe manages to catch it, running down the court like lightening. At twenty seconds left, the ball is swiped from Kwame by Daniel Death, who quickly shoots across the court. An attempt is made by Armel Hasam to take back control for his team, but he quickly falls to the ground in the attempt.

Death is surrounded on all sides by the Sharks, even as he makes it to the goal. He looks to his teammate Kevin Hobbs and passes the ball to him, only to be caught in mid-air by Brant Talin. There are now only 12 seconds left on the clock, Talin dribbles down to mid-court, 6 seconds left, looks around and passes the ball to Kwame Munroe. He looks as if he is going to attempt a 3-pointer, only to pushed to the floor by one of the Bazalopes. A foul is called and the teams line up.

With only 4 seconds left on the clock, Kwame steadies his gaze on the hoop, shouts of encouragement and derision echoing from the crowd. Then, as if on cue, everything goes quiet as he shoots, the ball seeming to hang in the air for a minute or more, then finally hitting its mark, nothin' but net. Silver Shark fans erupt in jubilation as the game resumes. Both Theodore and Brant manage to hold up the Bazalopes long enough for the clock to run down and secure a Sharks victory. The video clip stops, cutting to the image of a brown-haired, balding reporter standing on a basketball court in a grey business outfit.

"That was the scene last night here at Ah-Harim Memorial Collessium, where the Sharks managed to grab a stunning last-second victory from the Bazalopes, giving the team its first defeat in this tournament. Many fans have credited this stunning victory to the excellent skills of star-player Kwame Munroe from Rhianom."

The camera pans right next to the reporter, showing the seven foot two player standing there with a huge smile on his face.

"So tell us Kwame" the reporter says. "What were the thoughts going through your head as you were about to make that free-throw shot?"

Kwame leans down towards the microphone placed in front of him by the reporter. "Well..." he says in a thick accent. "...I was doing my best to drown out the distractions and focus on the task at hand. When you get to be a professional, you've got to learn to let the other stuff go and think of your team. I knew my team needed me to score for the win, and so I used that feeling as my fuel."

The camera cuts back to the reporter, who is nodding. "I understand some of the fans have come to calling you the Tower of Power now, due to your astounding offensive abilities and uncanny knack to nail several 3-pointers in succession. That even overshadows your predecessor Shay Farley." He places the microphone back in front of Kwame, who is still smiling and now laughing a bit.

"Yeah, I must admit I like the nickname. It has a very catchy feel to it. But to be honest with everyone, I wouldn't be anywhere without my teammates. They're the ones who pave the way for me to takes the shots."

"One final question Kwame. What are your feelings going up against the Lions again tonight?"

"I've got to admit that I am more concerned now than I was before when we faced off against them. So far the Lions haven't won a game, but to be honest I think that makes the even more dangerous. From what I hear they are really aching for a win and that is going to light a powerful fire underneath them tonight. We'll have to give it our all and then-some if we hope to avoid another nail-biter like we had with the Bazalopes."

The camera cuts back to the reporter again, who smiles, shakes hands with Kwame and then turns to face the camera.

"Well I'm sure it will be a sight to see, no matter the outcome. Be sure to tune in tonight at 11p.m. to see the Silver Sharks go head-to-head against the Lions once more. Will they be victorious again? or will the Nedalians finally secure a win? Find out tonight. Reporting for KSB, this is Stan Ulvin."

"And welcome to the BazSports coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your host Denis Rainy. The game today was only won today by the 1 point, though which team won. We'll reveal that later in the broadcast. The game seamed to be a repeat of the Bazalopes first encounter with the Khazonians with the Khazonians taking an early lead in the first quarter. Score Khazaron - 27, Bazalonia - 10"

<Video of the occasional Dribbling Bazalope goal interspersed within the Khazonian tirade>

"The 2nd quarter was however certainly different as while the Dribbling Bazalopes managed to crawl back and equalise the Khazarons in points during the 2nd quarter but at half time the score was Khazaron 46 - 21 Bazalonia. This time the Dribbling Bazalopes seemed certain for defeat."

"However the 3rd and the last quarter the Dribbling Bazalopes clawed back the points and with just seconds left it was Khhazaron 100. Bazalonia 100, it seemed that the Bazalopes would take the lead with Daniel Death with the ball. Let's go to the video and watch that.."

Daniel Death has the ball his his hands looking for a way pass through the wall of defense that the Khazaron team has set up, he can't and so passes it to Hobbs... Though in an almost magical leap Brant Talin, snatches the ball out of the air and continues down the court towards their offensive end. He bounce passes it to Kwame Munroe who makes an attempt at a three pointer... the clock is counting down 6... 5... 4... He starts to shoot but is spoiled by Hezekiah Lukeson. A foul is called and Kwame goes to the Free Shot line, he lines up the shot and takes it, the ball sails down and touches nothing but net. 3 .. 2... 1.... The Drribling Bazalopes get the ball and attempt to make a million to one longshot in the dying seconds but the ball falls well shot the buzzer rings and that is full time.

"And thus the Bazalopes fall to the Khazarons in their first defeat of the Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. Great game from both the Dribbling Bazalopes and the Silver Sharks. And we'll certainly be keeping an eye on the Silver sharks next match against Nedalia. Since the next match day will be a bye for the Dribbling Bazalopes we'll do a tournament re-cap of the 13th AOCAF. This is Denis Rainy and you have been watching the azSports Highlight coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship."

Drayds Make Successful Debut, Improve to 2-0 All-Time In Competition

HALOSEN GARDEN ARENA, Halosen - After playing only once in inter-regional competition, the Myrtannia Dryads were looking to prove themselves on their first day of action. Going in to AORBC II, they held a 1-0 record all time in inter-regional compeititon, the one win coming against ASMV in the women's title game. As defending champions, they had and still have a big target on their backs as ASMV returns looking to avenge the loss, and two new teams throw their hats into the fray.

On Sunday, the Dryads faced the first of these teams - the Geisenfried Lady Lancers, counterpart to the successful men's team that suffered its first loss on Sunday. Geisenfried sported a big front line that, like that of D&S, caused the Dryads to make the personell change that brought Ping Seek to the Myrtannia lineup. At every position except PF and C, the Lancers sported a size advantage over the defending champion Dryads. That made the game close, as did the Lancers' talent despite this being their first AORBC.

The first quarter was a see-saw battle, with both teams knocking down shots like it was going out of style. Zenobia Abdur-Shareef led the Drayd attack with 15 in the first, all three-pointers. But Geisenfried hung in there, and by the end of one, it was all knotted up at 26. In the second, the taller Lancers flexed some muscle by going on a 12-3 run to start things off, and Abdur-Shareef couldn't get any open shots.

At the half, it looked like there might be an upset in the works, with Geisenfried up by a score of 46-34. Then, the Dryads kicked into gear, reversing their usual strategy of outside shooting to discourage foes. Now, they kicked the ball inside to Sara Golden and the tallest woman on the court, the 6'7" Ping Seek. Bolstered by a serious rebounding effort by both women, the Dryads got back into the game, and started running against the taller Lady Lancers. Tully Stiles scored three consecutive layups during this stretch, and Becky Franken stepped in to add size to the Dryads' defensive efforts.

The Lady Lancers kept things close, though, and late in the fourth, it was tied at 70 apiece. Once again, the Dryads went to work, first when Stiles drove the lane against the big girls of the Geisenfried lineup, only to pass it behind her back to an open Seek, who proceeded to dunk the ball with both hands, sending the Myrtannian fans to their feet. It was the first dunk in the history of the AORBC Women's division competition. On the next play, Rona Lee, off the bench for defensive purposes, got a steal, and got it to Ping again - who was knocked down just as she let off her shot, got the foul, and hit the basket anyway. A freethrow later, it was Myrtannia up 75-70.

Geisenfried got a two pointer and then the free throw on their next possession, to make it 73-75, but that was as close as they would get. Myrtannia took a timeout, and then inbounded it to reserve guard Mary Finley, who nailed a three from the corner to put the Dryads up by five with ten seconds to go. On the last possession of the game, an attempted shot by the Lancers was rejected by Seek, and the ball recovered by Finley, who simply dribbled out to clock to a Dryads win.

"You've gotta hand it to the Lancers, they played really well out there. Their size will give a lot of people problems in games to come," Rona Lee said, "We were just five points better this time. Well, that and we've got the power of Ping."

Next up for the Dryads is the team they beat for the title in AORBC I - the ASMV Lady Dragons, coming off a surprising 80-82 loss to Dorian and Sonya. Expect a close game between the two roundball rivals as the Dragons try to reassert themselves on the hardwood. It'll be their running game against Myrtannian versatility - the Dryads can run, but prefer to control the tempo and take more jumpers, a mix of outside and inside shots. Ping Seek gives the Dryads an edge inside they didn't have last time around, but she can't do it herself.

Key Players: Ping Seek, C (18 points, 14 rebounds, 9 blocks v. GEIS)
Sara Golden, PF (16 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists v. GEIS)
Zenobia Abdur-Shareef, SG (17 points v. GEIS)
Tully Stiles, PG (8 points, 16 assists v. GEIS)

Hawks fall to Earth

It was a most 'interesting' day for the Hawks as they just seemed to give out in the final minute of the fourth quarter. A minor sprain to the left ankle of Hugh Humber just before halftime did not help Lamoni either. Hugh should be able to practice with the team tommorow, and even to play full tempo in the final Lamonian group stage match against Myrtannia. While the Hawks would have preferred the win, they will still be able to dominate the knockouts with their current record. The Hawks lost a game in AORBC I, and went on to win the championship, after all.

Lamoni will be shooting hoops at a local High School that has been designated for the purpose during their bye, and might even have a fun game with a Myrtannian squad at said high school with the proper permission.

Lamoni's final group stage match shall be against hosts Myrtannia, and will feature Hugh Humber against the giant that Myrtannia claims will be able to stop him. This will definetly be a very good game, and many eyes shall be watching in both nations. We don't want to sound arrogant, but we believe that Hugh Humber shall prevail in his battle against the Myrtannian giant. Hugh is known to be explosive, and his smaller size means that he can run circles around the larger Myrtannian center. While Hugh might have a little difficulty defending against the giant, it should even out on the offensive side of the ball.

"Winning Point Controversy" by Nev Gould

Usually I am a soccer correspondant but once in a while a there is a sports news event that is just so bizzare that I have no option but to bring it to your contention. IF you have watched the coverage of the Dribbling Bazalopes then you would be well aware of the 1 point that seperated the winner from the loser of the Bazalonia game against Khazaron. Bazalonia on the loosing side, but I have gotten my hand on something very interesting from the BBF (Bazalonian Basketball Federation). The BBF president has seemed to take a page from James Gaines book, the head of the Bazalonian Federation of Soccer Associations (BFSA). And have complained to the Myrtannian organises of the Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship, about the foul that gave the Khazaron basketball team the point that it needed to win the game instead of forcing the game to extra time.

I have a copy of the letter from the BBF but I cannot publish the letter in full, but I can provide snippets in which the BBF alleges "judging incompetence, if not worse", "flagrant disrespect for previous foul rulings" as well many other accusations. The BBF are demanding the sacking of the umpire in question and for the organisers to award the match to Bazalonia or at least do an extra 15 minutes and the winner would be the winner of that. As that would be the time awarded for extra time for the original game.

Personally, I think this is a load of total bollocks and I would like to personally apologise to the organisers for this I have looked at the game and have talked to some basketball nuts that I have as friends and we all agree the BBF has no idea what it is talking about.

Suns Eclipse Surprising Iksonic; ASMV Avenges AORBC I Loss in Women's Side

It was another day of exciting action at the Second Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship, which saw Myrtannia's teams meet different fates on the court. The Suns entered Day Five with a 1-1 record, and coming off their loss to Lamoni on Day Three, which they played without C Vito Munise. On Monday night, Vito was back in uniform, and looking much better after getting much needed rest. It was unclear during the warm ups whether or not the big man would be able to dominate as he had during the first matchup with Iksonic, but any doubts were quickly erased.

From the start, Myrtannia controlled the tempo of the game, winning the opening tip-off and charging down the court for a Jerome Young layup. By the end of the first, the Suns' offensive assault had them riding high 35-12. For the rest of the game, Iksonic scrambled to try and stop the hot hand of Rahir Abdul, and the inside dominance of a healthy Vito Munise. Once again, Vito dominated Iksonic, outrebounding both the opponent's center and power forward combined. On defense, the Suns kept their opponents at bay with blocks and steals that confounded Iksonic. Iksonic did manage to get within 11 in the third, but that was as close as this one ever got.

Vito Munise (30 points, 18 rebs, 9 blocks) led four Myrtannians scoring in double digits, including Rahir Abdul (26 points, 10 assits), Jerome Young (15 points, 2 steals), and Kirby Rylant (12 points, 12 assists). Next up for the 2-1 Suns is a date with destiny on the hardwood in a rematch of Day Three against defending champion Lamoni. Myrtannia is 1-2 all time against the Hawks in basketball, the one win coming on the opening day of AORBC I at the buzzer. Now, the Suns have to find a way to stop Hugh Humber, and Vito may be up to the challenge. While not as fast as Hugh, he is quick for a big man, and has been extremely good on defense in the two games he's played in. This time, with both men healthy, there'll be a mini-war on the court. However, if Lamoni focuses too much on Munise, the Suns can always fall back on Rahir Abdul, the most constant scorer for this team.

There were unconfirmed reports of a portion of the Myrtannian team playing a friendly scrimmage against members of the Hawks at an area high school, but Vito was nowhere to be seen. Expect chants of "Let's go Hugh!" to clash with the war-cry of certain Suns fans of, "Vi-to! Vi-to! Vi-to!".

In women's action, the Dryads had a hard-fought battle with the familiar rival of ASMV. Last time, it was the Dryads who won a very close game, but this was the Lady Dragons' night to get lucky. Neither team really pulled out in front, so it was a huge see-saw battle on the floor as the Dragons ran against the Dryads, and the Dryads tried to use a more balanced attack to fell their opponents.

Ping Seek gave the opposition problems as she scored often in the paint, leading Myrtannia with a career-high 28 points. In addition to grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking 6 shots, it still wasn't enough to stop the Lady Dragons. Several times, ASMV simply cut through the bigger Myrtannia frontcourt to drive to the hoop. With under 10 seconds remaining, ASMV was up 78-75, Myrtannia in possession of the ball.

Tully Stiles made a gorgeous pass to Ping behind her back, and Ping followed it up with her second dunk of the competition to make it 78-77. On the next play, Stiles got a steal, then hurled it down the court toward Mary Finley, where the Lady Dragons intercepted the pass and held on to win by one.

"They're good, and they had a lot to prove after losing to the Lady Mystics yesterday. This time, we just didn't have enough juice to finish it out, and the Dragons got the win. I admit, they were the better team this time," coach Dakkon said after the game.

The final matchup for Myrtannia in the women's division before the seeding for the knockouts is announced will be against the high-flying Dorian and Sonya Lady Mystics, who are still unbeaten after defeating Geisenfried 85-84 on Day Five. It should be a good match as the defending champions look to rebound from their slim loss to ASMV against a bigger D&S lineup.

On a side note, in response to a column by Bazalonian writer Nev Gould, the Myrtannian Basketball League, which provides referees for the AORBC, has released a rebuttal over the 'controversy' about Khazaron's winning free throw against the Bazalopes. An excerpt from the statement by the MBL's Officiation Department:

"The foul in question was a valid call, and not unlike previous ones made in the very same game and in other contests both in the AORBC and the MBL's regular domestic competitions. There is, however, an error in the way the call was executed in the match that requires clarification. Khazaron's Kwame Munroe was fouled in the process of shooting a three point shot. The impact with which the Bazalonian player hit him in an obvious foul is not what is in question. What is is the fact that Munroe was awarded only one foul shot. By the rules and guidelines of the Myrtannian Basketball League and the AORBC officiating authority, Munroe should have been awarded a number of shots equal to the point value of the shot he was attempting while fouled. In this case, three. The official in question has been reprimanded for this discrepancy, and will not make the same mistake in the future. Regardless, the result of a Khazaron victory stands."

Mystics Fall To Hoop Dragons

Last time the Mystics took the court against ASMV, they lost in a high scoring affair by 11 points. Then came D&S's own offensive glory against the Lancers. But everyone on the Mystics team knew that to beat the Hoop Dragons, defense would be the key. So D&S set about the business of using their great size advantage to slow the game down.

And for 3 1/2 quarters the strategy seemed to work. With just 6 minutes left on the clock, the Mystics went up 80-78. But then came the fatal mistake. "Sinister" Glenister fouled Nolan garrigus hard, sending the ASMV All-Star to the locker room with a bruised thigh. That foul woke the sleeping Dragons and the fight was on - even if it was one-sided. Kendi Ayudan of the Hoop Dragons took over and scored 9 straight points as ASMV closed the game on a 16-8 run.

"We played well against them." said Trento Reents (17 pts, 13 assists) following the game. "Any time you can hold that team under 100 points, you did a hell of a job. They just used their experience to finish and we fell short. Ayudan hid that can of whoop-ass until the end without us knowing it was there."

The loss eleiminates D&S from moving on in the men's competition. But that was already known after falling to 0-2 early.

Lady Mystics Edge Lady Lancers - Remain Unbeaten

The Lady Mystics size moved them past ASMV's smaller line-up in game 1. Now it was time to see how well it would do against a team that could actually match-up with them - Geisenfrieds Lady Lancers. And what a battle that turned out to be.

In a game that saw 21 lead changes and 3 points as the largest lead by either team, it came right down to the final buzzer. Here is the commentary from the last 10 seconds of the game:

"Servatius inbounds the ball, with the Lady Mystics down by one.... Ruggle has the ball....a near steal....and now the pass downcourt to Delosa in the paint....The shot is blocked!.......3 seconds on the clock.....Caughlin picks up the loose ball....the shot is away........the buzzer.......and the shot is GOOD!!!!........Lady Mystics pull it off!!!......And still undefeated!....final score - D&S 85 - Geisenfried 84"

Little-used Joette Caughlin had come into the game just minutes before as Cleotilde Hambric became the 4th Lady Mystic to foul out of the game. But her only points of the game were the largest as D&S escaped with the win.

Next up for the Lady Mystics are the Dryads of Myrtannia who fell today to ASMV 78-77. Our girls look very tough right now, but the Dryads are the reigning champions. After we beat them, we will be ready to take that title for good.

Hawks ready for match against Myrtannia

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Hawks were not idle on their day off. They practiced at a local Myrtannian high school gym, and even played a friendly scrimmage with the Myrtannians in which the Myrtannian 'answer' to Hugh Humber did not show up. We expect that Hugh will be able to score points on Vito Munise, but that the rest of the Hawks squad will also have to step it up, as the Hugh vs. Vito match-up has already been called a 'mini-war.' Lamonian defense should be able to stop the other Myrtannian threat, Rahir Abdul. It will be up to Hugh to subdue Vito, but Hugh's explosiveness should make that a 50/50 or better proposition.

Whoever wins this match will clinch the first ranking in Group B, and have a very good shot at winning the AORBC II trophy. In the end, it will probably come down to whoever wants it more. Lamoni won the trophy in AORBC I, and has a slight advantage in this game. Still and all, this should be a very interesting game to watch.

Hoop Dragons Return to Form

The Hoop Dragons faced The Mystics for the second time in AOBC II. The first meeting had been all ASMV on their way to an 11 point win. But a slip up against the lancers and D&S wanting revenge would make an entirely different story for the second meeting.

The Mystics came out slowing the ball down, and keeping ASMV off the break. The lack of flow to the game really affected the Hoop Dragons for the majority of the game. In fact, ASMV took its first lead of the game at 78-77 on an Alvaro Nouri rim-shaker. But “Sinister” Glenister 3 point shot gave D&S the lead back at 80-78. Then Sinister screwed up. The very hard, and completely uncalled for, foul on Nolan Garrigus sent the star to the locker room with a badly bruised thigh. That foul would be the turning point for the Hoop Dragons.

Kendi Ayudan went off. On the court, that is. 3 consecutive 3 pointers and 14 of the last 16 points for ASMV sealed the win. 94-88 was the final score. Ayudan finished with 29 points, Garrigus added 24 before the injury, and Nouri dropped in 21. Fidel Casano dished out 17 assists and Robby Malla collected 27 massive rebounds for the game. Reserve power forward Casey Miller also added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Next up is a rematch, and a chance for revenge, against the Lancers. This game is for the group title and ASMV will not be looking to repeat the debacle of the last meeting.

Lady Dragons Drop Dryads- Revenge is Sweet
In women’s action, the Lady dragons took on the Dryads in a rematch of the lone AOBC I game. That time ASMV lost to Myrtannia, and they were not eager to do that again.

The Lady Dragons looked to run, as usual. And as usual, that plan did not work to perfection. But the Dryads are the closest ASMV can get to actually matching up with in the half-court. Ping Seek was the Dryad star in this one. Levinia Snethiz and Michelle Hertha could do little to stop the Myrtannian center. But the Lady Dragons had an equalizer - speed. Toi Caira, Shana Balter, and Shasta Papaleo used that speed to beat defenders and score easily as they drove to the hoop. The game remained very close to the end.

As the clock hit the 10 second mark for the game, Toi caira’s 3 pointer gave ASMV a 78-75 lead. Then Myrtannia opted for the easy points as Ping threw down a Darryll Dawkins-like dunk to pull the game to a single point. A Stiles steal seemed ready to give the Dryads a chance, but the horrid pass that followed was easilt handled by Blondelle Barrett to preserve the ASMV victory

Next up for ASMV are the 0-2 Lady Lancers. Luck hasn’t been on their side in a couple of close games. But this game is very important. D&S (2-0) faces Myrtannia(1-1). ASMV is 1-1 as well. If D&S and ASMV win, the Lady Dragons will finish second in the group to the lady Mystics. If ASMV and Myrtannia win, there will be a three-way tie at 2-1. If ASMV loses and Myrtannia wins, ASMV will finish 3rd. If ASMV and Myrtannia both lose, a three-way tie at 1-1. Any way you look at it, we need to beat the Lady Lancers.

Suns Beat Hawks; Claim First Place in Group B, Round Robin Phase

SKALATUR, Fergot - It was the roundball war to end all wars at the Air Myrtannia Center as the two best teams in Group B battled it out to see who would have a shot at a bye in round one of the knockouts, and who would be forced to muddle through an extra knockout match. The winner would be 3-1, the loser 2-2. It was an epic game in the making, and both Lamoni and Myrtannia gave their all in the matchup. These two teams always play exciting games, and last time Lamoni was the better squad. This time, the result was different.

After playing a friendly scrimmage against the Hawks at Siggurd Jarlsson High School (home of the Fighting Lutefisk), the Suns had a casual air about them during the pre-game shoot around. Guard Rahir Abdul even shook hands with Lamonian players and posed for pictures with his opposite number from the Hawks side. Overall, it was a genial mood before tipoff, and the two centers got their first look at one another - Lamoni's superstar Hugh Humber and Myrtannia's big man Vito Munise. The focus of the game for many people would be the Hugh/Vito contest, dubbed a mini-war by this newspaper.

In a hotly contested game, the first half saw Lamoni go up by as many as eight before Myrtannia stormed right back to tie it and take a lead as big as four. Vito surprised people by passing more often than shooting in the first quarter, tossing it out to Rahir Abdul and Kirby Rylant. The two Suns guards combined for 29 points in the first half alone (Abdul with 17, Rylant with 12), and lit up the scoreboard from downtown. Lamoni made a game of it in the second quarter, pushing to go ahead, but never quite breaking away. Myrtannia was like an annoying pest that wouldn't go away.

The second was also when Vito Munise started taking it in against Hugh Humber, and using his size to drive to the hoop. For all of Humber's talent, this time the Myrtannian center was able to keep up with the smaller man. Hawks fans' cheer of "Let's Go Hugh!" could still be heard, but were at times drowned out with the "Vi-to! Vi-to! Vi-to!" of the Suns fans. At the half, the score as even Steven at 56 apiece.

Something had to give, and it did. Throughout the third quarter, Hugh Humber was able to score, but Vito stayed with him on both ends of the court. Unlike Sebastian Walton, Vito Munise wouldn't be duped as easily. Lamoni played a better quarter, though, and was up 78-76 at the end of three.

Going into the final quarter, Rahir Abdul was struggling against the Lamoni defense with only two points in the entire second half. Coach Al-Hakim pulled him out and sent in the defensive-minded Irwin Bartmettler, a move that proved to be beneficial to the Suns. Bartlmettler shocked the Hawks with five steals in the fourth quarter, which led to crucial points on fast breaks. A crucial 10 points that would give Myrtannia the edge it needed.

With one minute remaining, it was the Suns ahead 94-90, and Hawks ball. Hugh Humber got it inside, and scored despite Vito's best efforts to stop him, which resulted in a foul and a free throw for Hugh. One free throw later, it was 94-93. Then, Bartmettler took the inbound pass and got it to backup PG Gregory Yew, who nailed a three to extend the Suns lead to 97-93. With the clock ticking down to half a minute, the Hawks had the ball and again tried to get it to Humber, their go-to-guy. Famous for the 'block heard 'round the region' in AORBC I, Humber was on the recieving end of a big swat by Vito that put the ball in the hands of Suns forward Jerome Young.

Young dribbled out as much as he could of the clock, and then took a three point shot - which swished into the net, sending the Myrtannian fans to their feet. The score at 100-93, and 4 seconds remaining, the Hawks tried to save face with a three, which clanged off the rim and into the hands of Randolph Tulberg. Fans charged the court as the final horn signaled the Suns' astounding victory, and Suns players shook hands with their friends from the Lamonian side. Vito Munise shook the hand of Hugh Humber, and seemed to congratulate him for a game well-played.

Neither center won the mini-war; both did very well for themselves, and it leaves it up in the air whether Vito is the answer to Hugh Humber, or just a good player. Munise racked up another impressive game with 32 points, 17 rebs, and 7 blocked shots. Irwin Bartmettler had his best game, scoring 10 off the bench, and adding 5 steals and 4 assits in ten minutes of action.

The three-way tie breaker for first place in the men's division was won by the Suns, by benefit of a +35 point differential in the round robin phase overall. They take the #1 seed and join ASMV in getting a bye from the first round of the playoffs. Next up for the Suns will be the winner of the Khazaron v. Geisenfried game, which should prove to be an interesting game either way.

Lamoni, the defending AORBC champion, dropped to the #4 seed and will play #5 Bazalonia on Satuday, the winner facing ASMV.

Lady Mystics Stumble - Await Revenge

With the men's team on a bye date and already eliminated from the playoffs, focus here has switched to our Lady Mystics and the powerful force thet are posing in AOBC II. We knew it, Myrtannia knew it, and it seems the officials knew it too - Myrtannia could not hope to match up against our girls in the frontcourt.

It's hard to play against the number 1 ranked team, especially on their court in front of their fans - and with the help that goes with that. Early on it was evident that the men in stripes would not allow Ping Seek of the Dryads to be outplayed by the larger D&S lineup. Ngan Delosa picked up two fouls in the first 5 minutes of play - the second one was very questionable. Then her replacement,Azalee Staum, was given a second foul just 30 seconds into the 2nd quarter. The sad part is she was more than 5 feet away from anyone as she trailed on the fast break. That left the bulk of the inside work to two very untested players - Roselia Maple and Gala Stroth. Although the two stand 6'7 and 6'9 respectively, their inexperience could not replace the play of the veterans in front of them in the lineup.

That lack of experience hurt the Lady Mystics by limiting their options, and the Dryads took full advantage of that fact. In the end, the Dryads left the court with an 86-80 victory. And then even worse news came. ASMV had destroyed the Lady Lancers 90-78. That set up a three-way tie for first between ASMV, Myrtannia and the Lady Mystics. And the God-Aweful tie-breaker relegated us to a #3 seed for the playoffs. And guess what? We get to replay this whole damn thing again in the first round.

But there will be a difference then. If we are going to get called for that many fouls- we are going to make every single one of them really count. It's going to be a war out there.

Dryads Take Out Lady Mystics, Will Face D&S In Playoffs

HALOSEN, Turku - The defending champion Dryads entered the day facing a must-win situation against the Dorian and Sonya Lady Mystics. D&S' team was the only unbeaten squad, sporting two big wins over ASMV and Geisenfried. Myrtannia was 1-1, and facing a difficult situation if they lost.

Myrtannia played with a purpose, using their slightly better mobility to counter the superior size of the Lady Mystics. Starting at PG for the benched Tully Stiles, Mary Finley played marvelously against Dorian and Sonya, knocking down a good number of shots on her way to a career AORBC high 16 points. Not much, but it made a difference in the long run. Finley also contributed with solid if uninspired passing, making sure her teammates got the ball. After the result of the ASMV game, the Dryads weren't taking any chances.

Ping Seek dominated once again, despite being shorter than the opposing squad's starting center. Seek broke her career high in points with 34, the second-highest total in AORBC Women's division history, and added 12 rebounds and 10 assists to 5 blocks in her best performance yet.

"The Mystics were good, but we wanted this one more," the enigmatic Seek told reporters after the game.

Myrtannia never trailed by more than a point, but only led by more than two in the fourth quarter, where they went up by six. A pair of dunks from Ping put the Dryads up 86-80, and the defense of Rona Lee, Becky Franken, Ping, Mona Vanhannen, and Tully Stiles shut down the efforts of the Lady Mystics to get into the game.

The Dryads became the first team to beat the Lady Mystics so far, but Dorian and Sonya will obviously be looking for revenge in the playoffs. Myrtannia ended up drawing the second seed in the Women's division, which means they will see the Lady Mystics again in the Semis.

"They're a very good team; it should be one heck of a rematch out there!" proclaimed Rona Lee, the most outspoken member of the Dryads team.

The ASMV Lady Dragons had the highest point differential after blowing out the Geisenfried Lady Lancers, and will play the Lancers again in the Semis.

Accusations of bias in officiation are being investigated by the MWBL, and as of official order by the AORBC governing authority, all referees involved in the first Myrtannia v. Dorian and Sonya game have been removed from duty. Reports indicate that referees from a neutral party will be there to officiate the playoff matchup. Possibly from Lamoni or Nedalia or another undisclosed nation.

However, the referees offered this statement: "The Dorian and Sonya Lady Mystics have legitimate reason to grumble on certain calls. However, the official rules of the AORBC Women's division clearly state that the foul limit per player is five fouls, not two. It is the responsibility of the team, in this case the Lady Mystics, to not pull players out of the game for fouling out if they have not yet fouled out. We did not force their players to leave the court because of this, but the Dorian and Sonya coach removed the players in question anyway. We apologize for any appearance of bias or jaded officiation in the game."

Hoop Dragons Prove A Point In Blowout Win

ASMV regarded today's game against the Lancers of geisenfried as a statement game that would show everyone they were here to win the whole thing. A make that statement they did - In grand fashion.

The Lancers were not to be outdone. A rock solid defensive effort held the Hoop Dragons under 90 points. And that had only been done once before by Lamoni in the finals of AOBC I.

But the Hoop Dragons had an answer that no one expected to see. They actually played defense. In a shocking turn of events, ASMV allowed just 73 points for the entire game. Usually that number is more like a third quarter score. But hey, there is a first time for everything. Just dont expect too many efforts like this one. Our defensive points average still sucks.

The duo of Garrigus and Ayudan once again led the Hoop Dragons as the two combined for 63 of the ASMV 87 points. 17 more belonged to big man, Alvaro Nouri, who also blocked 9 shots in the game. Malla as usual dominated the boards, collecting 19 of them, 15 on the defensive end. And Fidel Casano earned a double-double with 13 assists and 11 steals.

That win gave ASMV the group title and a bye in the first round of the playoffs. But the reward really sucks. Most likely ASMV will face Hugh Humber and the defending Champs from Lamoni (no offense to Bazalonia). Obviously this is what most people wanted to see in a finals rematch.

Lady Dragons Finally Able to Run

And run they did. The lady Lancer looked shell-shocked for most of the game, and showed a complete inability to slow down the Lady Dragons. 43 of the 90 points were scored on the break as Geisenfried players stuggled in their transition defense.

Shasta Papaleo led the way for ASMV with 33 points in the game. 4 other players reached double digits in the win that ultimately led to ASMV's #1 seed in the playoffs.

And that is where we face the Lady Lancers for the second consecutive game.

"Next time won't be as easy." said Papaleo following the game. "They now have some time to get their game plan ready and make the adjustments that they couldnt get done today. It will be a much closer game."

when informed of reports of bad officiating in the Myrtannia vs D&S game, and the official's statemnets afterwards, Head Coach Lavenia Graves had this to say -
"Are those officials completely nuts? Everybody here knows that each player gets 5 fouls. It is complete absurdity that they even made that comment. I personally did not watch the game, so I cant tell you whether or not the calls were justified. But I can say that when players get into early foul trouble it limits what you can do. And at the rate those fouls seem to have been called, the players in question would have been out of the game by the half. No coach in their right mind would ever allow that to happen. Foul trouble changes games, and those officials know that. Their comment is completelt derogatory to all coaches here. Glad they won't be around to ref my game."

"And welcome to the BazSports coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your host Denis Rainy. This was another close game between our opponents, in this case Nedalia. The game was full of ups and downs, changes of leads and no one was ever more than 8 goals away from each other. This one had us biting our nails right to the end. So let's get to it.

"Daniel Death started the game with a marvelous 3-pointer."

<Video of Daniel Death being half way between the 3-point line and the third markings of the court releasing the ball hittinh the back board, bouncing into the hoop with the ball swirling around a bit then it falls out down the bottom>

"The Nedalians countered with a goal of their own and here is where the leads started to swap constantly. At the end of the first quarter it was Nedalia 27 - Bazalonia 28, with only the 1 point difference seperating the 2 teams. The Second quarter was not much different and it seemed that neither team could break away from each other, Craig Johan had already ammassed 3 personal goals and was sat out for the rest of the game,'Peppy" Eiragon Ricardo' took his place. The score at half-time was Nedalia 52 Bazalonia 50. The second half saw Bazalonia starting to build up a small lead, just sneaking in the occasional extra goal here and there, they managed to score a total of 8 unanswered points. For a total at 3 quarter time of Nedalia 67 - Bazalonia 73. However Nedalia scored the first points and not only rained in that lead of 6 but scored 6 extra. Taking the final score to Nedalia 96 - Bazalonia 90."

Despite this loss Bazalonia has made it into the Atlantian Oceanian Regional Basketball Championship Quarter Finals. Where we face the winner of the first and only Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship, Lamoni. They won three of their games and our Dribbling Bazalopes have been citied by Vegan media as "not having a chance" but you never know with Tournaments like this, particularily in Finals, we could just e better than Lamoni on the day, even though that is not very likely. It is always unwise to rule-out anyone in the tournament. I am Denis Rainy. And this has been BazSports Highlight Coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball championship."

...

After the Broadcast...

"Why do I have to say the whole thing and not just AORBC?" exclaimed Denis Rainy to the Aports Editor.

"Because, that's how we've always down things like this. If you don't like theres the door. Don't let it hit you on the way out." exclaimed the editor

"Okay... Okay... I was just asking if we could do it another way, obviously not then."

Lamoni faces Bazalonia next

After a 93-100 loss to Myrtannia in the final group match, Lamoni will be facing AORBC newcomers Bazalonia. The winner of that match goes on to face ASMV. As you may recall, the Hawks defeated ASMV to win the AORBC I trophy. If Lamoni makes it past Bazalonia, then ASMV will be waiting with everything that they have.

The Hawks have yet to face Bazalonia in the AORBC; and while others are saying that Bazalonia doesn't stand a chance, Lamoni will still play them like the record is 0-0. With Bazalonia now an SDL member, this should be a fairly friendly game; politically speaking. On the court however, it will be more like 'to each his own.'

<Picture of Hugh Humber slam dunking at LBA All Star Game>

Then there is the question of whether the Bazalonians will be ready for the explosiveness of Hugh Humber. He's not the only star on the Lamonian squad, but he's the one that gets all the international attention for being insturmental in Lamoni's performance in AORBC I.

While giving Bazalonia a fair chance, it is the opinion of this paper that Lamoni will be able to win this upcoming match, if only because of the famed Lamonian defense.

Lamoni shows Bazalonia how it's done

With a three pointer by Hugh Humber at the final seconds of the game, Lamoni walked away with a nine point victory against Bazalonia.

This game was quite close until the Bazalonians seemed to fall apart in the latter half of the fourth quarter, allowing Lamoni to score nine points and the victory.

Hugh Humber gave an interview to Bazsports to let the Bazalonians know that there were no hard feelings. "Bazalonia has every right to be proud of it's team. Holding out that long against us is no easy task, but you have to stick with it if you're going to beat us. We hope to see some Bazalonians in the stands when we face ASMV next."

Next up for Lamoni is the Hoop Dragons of ASMV.

<Photo of Hugh Humber blocking shot at AORBC I Championship game>

As you might recall, the Hawks defeated this team in order to with the AORBC I trophy. ASMV would love nothing more than to win this game, and then the trophy, and you can bet that they are going to pull out all the stops in order to do it. This will mean that Lamoni will have to play it's style of defense, and not make mental errors. We have more good people on the team than just Hugh Humber, even though he is the only one that seems to make the international news. While Hugh DOES deserve the spotlight for his excellent performances, what have the other members of the Lamonian AORBC squad been doing? Everyone will have a chance to find out in the game against ASMV.

"And welcome to the BazSports coverage of the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your host Denis Rainy. Today was the hardest Game the Dribbling Bazalopes had in their short international basketball carrer, competing against the Lamoni Hawks. Who won the first Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. Now onto the game

The first quarter the Dribbling Bazalopes seemed to explode out of the blocks, but even then they didn't get far ahead of the Hawks. Daniel Death took the score lead. The score was Lamoni 24 - 32. The 2nd Quarter the Lamonian forwards kicked in and the score at the end of the first half was ended up Lamoni 51 - Bazalonia 50. The third quarter and the first half of the last quarter the Dribbling Bazalopes managed to keep up but their stamina failed them. The Lamoni Hawks kept going and the Bazalopes where fizzling out. The Score at the end was Lamoni 95 - Bazalonia 86.

It was a good game against the best team in the region, in an interview after the match the Bazalonian Coach, George Constantinople had this to say."

<Video of the Interview>
This game was a defining game for the Dribbling Bazalopes, we where able to show that we belong here, in th AORBC and that any team, even the best in the region need to take us seriously. And we where able to get a few things from the todays game to improve on but we have to congratulate the Lamonian hawks in their progression to the semi-finals

"And as an extra bonus, for the first time we managed to get an inmterview with the Lamonian star player,Hugh Humber "

<Video of the interview with Hugh>
"This is Stephen Ford, reporting live from Myrtannia. The Lamoni Hawks beating the Dribbling Bazalopes only by nine points in a stunning game. Where is going to face ASMV in the Semi's. I've been lucky enough to get an interview with Hugh Humber, one of Lamoni's star players. This is your first time against the Bazalonian team, what's your impresion of them."

"Bazalonia has every right to be proud of it's team. Holding out that long against us is no easy task, but you have to stick with it if you're going to beat us. We hope to see some Bazalonians in the stands when we face ASMV next." Hugh replied

"So what do you think your teams chances against ASMV in the up-coming semi's?"

"We always take it one game at a time, We faced them and won in the first AORBC but we are going to have to perform our best, if we can do that then ASMV will have a much harder time to win, but it all comes down to game day."

"Thank you for taking the time for speaking with us here at BazSports and I, for one, will certainly be at your game against ASMV. I'll let you go back to your team so you can celebrate properly."

"Thank You, Stephen."

<return to studio>

"So Lamoni heads to face ASMV in the Semi's and we can only dream what the Dribbling Bazalopes can do in the next AORBC. See you then. This is Denis Rainy saying goodbye until the next AORBC."

The KSB logo shows in a bright red color, over a black background. Slowly the logog fades to reveal a beautiful, blonde-haired, female host. She is smiling as the intro music dies down.

"Welcome again to the Khazaronian Sports Broadcasting special coverage of the second ever Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship tournament. Today I have with me two very special guests."

The camera pans to the left to reveal an elderly looking gentlemen with greying hair and a rather large bald spot on the top of his head. Sitting next to him is a tall, bald, black man. He seems to be smiling a great deal.

"Directly to my left is head coach of the Silver Sharks, Kenny Laris, and next to him is the ever-popular, "Tower of Power", Kwame Munroe. Welcome to the show gentlemen."

"Thanks for having us." says Kenny Laris.

"Let me start off by saying this. You won your last game by yet another impressive 3-pointer, this time within the last minute of the game. Geisenfried managed to field an impressive team, especially for their first showing in the AORBC, but what are your feelings, and plans, going up against the leading team of the tournament, the Myrtannian Suns?"

Kwame Munroe gave a big, toothy smile, revealing his bright, white, teeth, and looked straight at the reporter. "Well..." he said in his distinct deep voice. "...I think it is safe to say that we all feel a bit apprehensive when going up against such a qualified team. Their current lead point-wise is a definate psychological advantage over their opponents. However, the very fact that we have gotten to the point where we can face off against such an impressive team should say something about the Silver Sharks. This is the first time that we Khazaronians have managed to make it to the semi-finals of any sports tournament, and this is only our second showing. Quite an improvement I would say. However, no matter the outcome of the game tonight; and I think I speak for the rest of the team when I say this; I will have considered it an honor to have faced off against such fine opponents in this torunament."

With those words the cute reporter then turns to Coach Laris. "Coach, what are your plans?"

The coach seems to loose himself in thought for several moments, folding his hands and looking down towards the ground before retruning his gaze towards the reporter. "Well, if it's one thing that I have learned from watching the Suns play, is that you can never count them out. No matter how far ahead, or how assured you think your game is, they can come back when you are least suspecting it and snatch victory from what seems to be the jaws of defeat. We will need to bring a massive offensive and defensive effort to this game, no questiona about it. As good as this guy is..." he reaches over and pats Munroe on the shoulder, who proceeds to chuckle a bit. "...We can't rely on him like we have in past games. During this game tonight, we will be pushing as much on our guards, Lucas and Noam, as we do on him. We'll need an iron wall to go up against their battering ram."

The blonde reporter smiles and nods. "As tall as you are though, Kwame, the center for the Suns, Vito Munise, still stands a good four inches over you. Do you think that gives him any kind of advantage when it comes down to it?"

Kwame shakes his head. "Whenever I meet up against something like this, I'm reminded of a saying I heard when I first started out in professional basketball. It's not the size of the fighter that counts, it's the size of the fight that he brings." Kwame then turns and looks directly into the camera. "And you had better believe me, I've got a whole hell of alot of fight inside me, and so do my mates."

The reporter nods as she watches Kwame make his brief address to the audience, then smiles and turns to face the camera as it zooms in on her. "Should be one hell of a game to watch then. Make sure to tune in tonight to watch the game live at 11p.m., from Bunkal Arena. Reporting for KSB, this is Sharon Siwan."

Myrtannians Follow Proud Tradition of Losing in Semis

BUNKAL - The Mrytannia Suns came into the semi-finals round of AORBC II looking to advance to the team's first regional title game. They had a lot going for them - a monstrous +35 point differential, the highest seed of the men's division, a 3-1 record, a first round bye, and 7'6" monster Vito Munise. None of these prepared them for their very first AORBC meeting with the Khazaron Silver Sharks.

The champions of Group A, the Silver Sharks were coming into the matchup off a big first round victory over the Geisenfried Lancers. Momentum was on Khazaron's side, it seemed, as the Sharks stuck with the hometown Suns throughout the whole game. Myrtannia's last match was a huge win over Lamoni that gave the Suns the Group B championship and the first round bye.

In a real roundball war, the Suns kept the heat on for most of the game, which itself contained 25 lead changes. Vito Munise was kept quiet finally, registering an only modest line of 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 blocks. At the end of the third, Rahir Abdul went down after charging the hoop for a layup, and was helped off the court by teammates Jerome Young and Michael Mitchell back to the locker room. Abdul would not return, fueling rumors that he may be out for the rest of AORBC II. Irwin Bartmettler took Abdul's place, but couldn't do much as the Sharks put the pressure on the Suns in the paint. Vito fouled out in the fourth, and from there it was all Sharks. Graham Ryall couldn't stop Kwame Munroe, and Khazaron ultimately pulled away for a 92-87 win to secure their very first inter-regional sporting medal. At this time, the worst Khazaron can finish is with the silver medal, last won by their next opponent ASMV in AORBC I.

After the game, Vito Munise went on both AIR 4 of Myrtannia and KSB to comment on the game, "These guys are really good; whatever we did, they had an answer for it. I think they've got the talent to go all the way, but they have to shut down the Dragons' offense. If they can stop us, I think they can pull it out in the end. Great game all around, and hats off to the Sharks for the win. Right now, we're focusing on Lamoni."

Next up for the Suns is a rematch with the Lamoni Hawks, who suffered the fate of so many others at the hands of ASMV's high-octane offense. In AORBC I, the Hawks' defense stopped the Dragons. This time, the Dragons played their kind of game and walked away 106-94 winners.

No Repeat for Dryads; D&S Gets Revenge

It was a heated rematch between the defending champion Dryads of Myrtannia and the Dorian and Sonya Lady Mystics in the first-ever AORBC women's semi-finals. Accusations of horrible offication in the round robin game led to the AORBC governing authority bringing in Lamonian Basketball Association referees for the women's games. Last time, the Dryads got lucky and pulled out in front of the Mystics, but this time the Mystics had motivation.

Wanting revenge for the previous loss, the Mystics played a tight game with the Dryads, who were attempting to reach their second championship game in a row. Both sides used their size to score points, but Myrtannia's defense lapsed in and out of consciousness at times. Ping Seek led the Dryads again with a career-high 42 points, coupled with 19 rebounds, but the rest of the team couldn't do much against the vengeful D&S side. It remained very close to the last second, when it was tied 76-76. Here's the AIR 4 call:

"Mytics coming off a timeout, inbounding from halfcourt with the score tied and 2 seconds left to play in regulation... ball comes in, the shot is up, and... GOOD! Good, and the Lady Mystics score the upset at the buzzer, 78-76 to advance to the title game!"

Coach Dakkon said this of the Mystics, "They're one hell of a team - they use their size so well out there, it's surprising we didn't lose by more tonight. It stings to lose like this at home, but luck just wasn't with us on the court."

Now, the Dryads will have to make due with the bronze at best, and will have to go through the Gesienfried Lady Lancers to get it.

Lady Mystics Edge Dryads In Thriller!

The stage was set for one of the best women's basketball games of all time. #1 ranked Dryads vs a very large and powerful team from The Kingdom. And to add fuel to the fire, Myrtannia had just handed D&S its first loss of the tourney. The air was filled with the electricity of the crowd as they waited to see who would emerge victorious. Everyone knew that this would be a very close game to watch.

And the game did not disappoint the fans. 17 ties, 12 lead changes, and never further apart than 4 points. That is the way all games should be. Ping Seek did her part for the Dryads. 42 points, 19 rebounds, 7 blocks, 4 steals, and 3 assists as she solidified her hold on the women's tourney MVP.

But the Lady Mystics had an answer in the form of Genevie Servatius and Ngan Delosa who combined for 59 of the 78 points the team scored. The other players contributed with a furious defense that shut down all but Ping for the most part.

After the elleged officiating debacle of the first meeting, Lamonian officials were brought in for the game and did a masterful job. Except maybe for that last call that gave D&S the ball back with 2 seconds on the clock. That call would decide things in favor of the Lady Mystics as Servatius hit a jumper from 12 feet out to win the game. The replay was unclear, but it did look as if the ball might have been out off of Summer Uher of the Lady Mystics. But the call stood and D&S moves on.

"They were very tough today" said coach Anja Strollo. "I cant believe we actually moved past them. But now we have to focus on the Lady Dragons. We won the first meeting and you can bet they will be looking to amend that error on their part. But they are a small team and will have to compete with our size. I like our chances."

Hoop Dragons Move Past Lamoni - Revenge is Sweet

AORBC I saw the high-flying Hoop Dragons fail to achieve liftoff in the finals as Lamoni and their superstar, Hugh Humber, walked away with the title. Now ASMV had a chance to redeem themselves.

The first two quarters saw a very close game unfold as Humber battled the duo of Garrigus/Ayudan for court supremacy. 46-46 was the score at the break, and niether team looked ready to give an inch.

The third quarter played out much the same, but as the quarter came to a close disaster happened for Lamoni - Humber picked up his 4th foul. That would be the key to the 4th quarter for ASMV. With Hunber limited by the fould trouble, Alvaro Nouri was finally free to score, and he did just that collecting 16 points in the final 12 minutes. In the end, a very tough game finished as a 106-94 victory for the Hoop Dragons. Half of that total can be attributed to made foul shots down the stretch as Lamoni was forced to foul and stop the clock in hopes that ASMV would miss those free throws. But they didnt miss and ASMV moved on to the finals.

"They are probably still the best team here." said Kendi Ayudan following the game. "We just played better today. That's how it works out sometimes. Humber is still the most dominant force around. He changes a game like no one else here."

Next up is the finals, where ASMV will face the Silver Sharks of Khazaron. They have shown great versatility so far. They have won defensive battles and managed to score in bunches when they need to. They will be tough. The Hoop Dragons will try to turn on the jets and see if the Sharks can keep up. It should be a great game.

Lady Dragons Down Lady Lancers - Move to Finals

The Lady Dragons reached the semis of the women's tourney, with a bit of bad news. They had just beaten the Lady Lancers and would have to play them again. It is never easy to play a team twice in a row. They know all of your tricks the second time around. And given the Lady Lancer's size, that could mean real trouble.

Geisenfried believed that theory as well, and the play of their team showed it. 3 quarters saw the Lady Lancers control the ball and the score, and things did not look good for the women of ASMV.

But in the 4th, the Lady Dragons managed to turn the pace of the game to high, and the Lady Lancers did not have an answer. Shana Balter and Shasta Papaleo took over the game and scored at will on break after break. Geisenfried watched as their 10 point lead disintegrated. With just 5 ticks left on the clock, Papaleo dropped in the winning basket and ASMV escaped with an 82-80 win, and a trip to the finals.

Unfortunately for ASMV the finals might be a brick wall for the Lady Dragons. The Lady Mystics also made the finals, even though ASMV was hoping the Dryads would slide through. After all, we beat the Dryads earlier in the competition while the size that Dorian and Sonya bring was too much for our smaller girls to handle.

But now the Lady Dragons have a chance to avenge their only loss of this tourney. Much like the men, the women will be looking to run, then run again, and then run some more. But D&S will have other ideas on that one. Probably one that involves a lot of bruises and pain.

Abdul-less Suns Shock Hawks Again; Dryads Make Due With Bronze

HALOSEN, Turku - In a re-match of the final round robin day's game, the Hugh Humber-led Lamoni Hawks, finishing out their reign as AORBC I champions, met with the Myrtannia Suns. Lamoni had just been beaten by a resurgent ASMV team 106-94, meaning that they would not repeat as champions. Still, a place on the medal stand awaited the winner of the third and final Myrtannia v. Lamoni matchup of AORBC II.

The Suns were here last time around, and lost to Nedalia in the bronze medal game in AORBC I. With the Lions eliminated after the round robin stage, the Suns looked to take their place on the medal podium for the first time. Lamoni had no intention of making it easy, either. The Hawks were licking their wounds after the loss to the Dragons, but they were still the Hawks.

In the hardest-fought game of the tournament for Myrtannia, the Suns went without star off guard Rahir Abdul (out with a knee injury suffered against Khazaron in the semis), and therefore all eyes were on Vito Munise. However, Munise got in foul trouble early against the smaller, faster Hugh Humber, and had to sit out the second and third quarters with five fouls to his name.

For Myrtannia it was a team effort, with six players in double figures. Surprsingly, point guard Kirby Rylant led the way for the Suns with a career AORBC-high 29 points, including 7/7 from beyond the arc. Rylant had his first double-double of the tournament as well, with 29 points/13 assits. Still it was another seesaw battle that saw 30 lead changes, 15 ties, and neither team leading by more than four.

"A classic game all around," said Myrtannian AIR 4 commentator Henry Jones, Jr., "Both these teams really wanted the bronze medal, but only one could walk away with anything around their necks."

And going into the last posession of the game, it looked like it was heading for overtime, tied at 94. That was when the miracle happened. Backup Gregory Yew took the inbound from Irwin Bartmettler, and then tossed it to forward Hunter Olinick. Olinick, a 6'11" small forward from the MBL's Blackheart Buccaneers, had been called up to the active roster due to Abdul's injury. In his only shot all night, he threw up a prayer from half-court... and it went in at the buzzer.

Halosen Garden Arena went nuts - the fans as loud and rowdy as Myrtannian curling fans. For the first time, a Myrtannian men's team had won a medal in regional competition, and beat the defending champions to do it, to boot.

"We can take nothing away from what Lamoni accomplished in AORBC I - they're a great team, and we just got lucky this time. If it weren't for Hunter's shot, we probably would've lost this game in OT," said coach Al-Hakim.

The Suns will take their place on the medals podium Thursday night after gold medal match.

In other action, the Myrtannia Dryads recovered in convincing fashion in the women's division. After being beat at the buzzer by D&S' Genevie Servatius, the Drayds came into what turned out to be a cake walk of a game against the winless Geisenfried Lady Lancers. Geisenfried had nearly upset ASMV in the semis, but ran into a brick wall against the determined offensive attack of the Drayds.

Ping Seek led the way with 30 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assits, and 10 blocks to record the AORBC's first-ever quadruple-double. Zenobia Abdur-Shareef, possibly in her final game, contributed 20, and Tully Stiles 10. Strong defense by the Dryads shut out the Lady Lancers, who fell to 0-5 all time in the AORBC. The final tally was the Dryads securing the bronze medal, 89-74. Ping is expected by most to be named the MVP of the Women's Division overall, but the MVP of the title game is likely to be Shana Balter or Shasta Papaleo of ASMV or Ngan Delosa of D&S.

"Obviously, this isn't the result we were looking for, but we'll take a medal anyway. What the heck, you know? At least we had a good run," Abdur-Shareef told AIR 4 reporters at a press conference after the game.

The KSB logo appears in bright red on the screen, accompanied by some very upbeat music. Slowly the logo fades, melting slowly to reveal the image of Sharon Siwan. She smiles at the camera, sitting on a director's chair on the side of a basketball court. Quickly the image cuts to a broader view, revealing three other people sitting to the left of Sharon in the same types of chairs.

"Hi and welcome to all of our viewers on our continuing coverage of the Second AO Regional Basketball Championship. I am pleased to have with me today, Assistant Coach Anderson Amari, along with Sharks guards Brant Talin and Theodore Avraham."

All three men sitting next to her smile and nod. "It's a pleasure to be on the show." says the gentleman sitting directly to her left. His most notbale feature being a slight grey streak on the sides of his head of hair.

"Tell me coach, the Sharks have made it all this way to the finals. Already you have surmounted two of the tougher teams from the last championship and you have made a name for the Khazaronians as putting up a very effective defense...but, in light of the news that you are going up against the Dragons for the gold, what are your feelings? This is a team that last time, managed to give the Sharks a run for their money. All games agains them where either won or loss by one point."

The grey-streaked gentleman nods sagely and folds his hands, before turning to reply. "Well Sharon, I'd be lying if I said that we weren't concerned about going up against the Dragons. But, we also don't plan on letting those concerns overwhelming us. I think this is a big problem you see in a lot of professional rivalries today. Teams will go up against opponents they've faced in the past, one's who gave them a hard game, and start to freak. That alone can loose the game for you. You can't ignore it obviously, but you also can't let it control you either. Head Coach Laris has experience with them last time, and that has benefited us greatly. We've been viewing the tapes from the last championship and analyzing their patters over and over again. The key to defeating such a well organized opponent is to know him better than he knows himself."

Sharon nods, intently listening to the coach speak. She then turns her attention to the two guards, sitting next to the coach. One has black hair and a five o'clock shadow forming on his cheeks and chin. The other has blonde hair and a piercing green eyes.

"Brant Talin, in the last game against the Myrtannia Suns, you and your fellow guard Theodore seemed to be focusing alot on the center and his movements. Will that be the same gameplan for this title bout agains the Dragons?"

The man with the stubble shoke his head and smiled. "More than likely not. These gusy know us very well, and therefore can probably find a good way around whatever defense we can throw up against them. Like coach said, in a situation like this the best thing we can do is memorize their every moves and know them as good as they know us. Once we get a feel for each other, we can at the very least make the game as dificult for them as I am sure it will be for us." Talin let out a broad smile as he leaned back.

"I've heard that news of the Silver Sharks reaching the finals has spread all across Khazaron, even going so far as to garner a mention in the Archon City Daily comic-strip." she turns to the camera and motions with her right hand. "Can we see if we can get a shot of that strip up on the screen?"

A white comic panel appears on screen. On the left of the panel is a comically drawn shark in oversized armor and wielding a rather large sword. On the right is a very cartoony dragon, with small wings and flaring nostrils. In between the two stands a large treasure chest filled with jewels and all sorts of expensive trinkets. On top of the pile is a gold medal. The dialogue bubble above the shark reads: "I've come for the gold!" While the bubble above the dragon reads: "That's my gold, and you'll have to take it from me!" The image is on the screen for a minute or so, before fading back to the image of Sharon and the others.

All seem to be chuckling a bit.

"Yes, in times like these, with people getting so tense over things like sports, I think it does good for both teams to stand back and laugh at themselves a bit. And really, if you think about it, the comic is very true. If either of us wants the gold, we're going to have to "take it" to the court." said the Assistant Coach.

Sharon nods in agreement, then clears her throat. "I understand your team recently underwent a uniform change?"

"Yes that's true. Teddy, why don't you show off our new jersey to the nice home audience?" replied Amari.

The player sitting on the far left reached behind his back and pulled forth the new jersey, proudly displaying it to the cameras.

"We just arranged for a set of these new uniforms to be delivered in time for the final game. We want to look our best for the big showdown. Also, we'd like to give a big thanks to Sabre Inc. for all of their hard work in making these."

Sharon turns to the camera and smiles. "Well I'm afraid that is all we have time for today. Be sure to tune in tonight for the final showdown of the championship, when the Khazaronian Silver Sharks will face off against the ASMV Dragons at the Halosen Garden Arena. The game starts at 10p.m. Thank you for watching."

The screen fades to black as the upbeat music cues up again.

Silver Sharks Take the Gold!

There was much rejoicing in the Silver Sharks locker room this afternoon, with champagne and various other beverages flowing freely. Even Head Coach Kenny Laris got involved in the festivities when he had a rather large quantity of gatorade dumped on his head right after the end of the championship game. Back home in Khazaron, a similar scene of elation spread across the country as parties spilled out onto the streets and what resembled mild chaos ensued. So bad was the celebration in some areas that the police had to be called in so that no damage would be done to random passers-by, or to property. "There's a tremendous feeling of elation, like we're walking on air. We've tried and trained so hard since the first AORBC, that to see our dreams now come to fruition...it's just one of those feelings that so wonderous, you can barely describe it." replied Coach Laris.

As for the game itself, well it was indeed the hard-fought affair that all expected of a typical Sharks v. Dragons affair. The high-point of the game came in the last quarter when Kwame Munroe faced off against Dragons center Alvaro Nouri for the last three minutes of the game. Both teams at that point had 96 points, and both put up their best defensive/offensive stratagems to try and get those crucial last few points. It seemed that no matter how hard either team tried, the other managed to grab the ball just in the nick of time. At one point, with only a minute thirty left on the clock, both Munroe and Nouri kept stealing the ball from each other by the time they reached half-court. "It got to the point where a bunch of us where expecting to walk out of the game with whiplash from our heads going back and forth." said one fan.

Finally, with only five seconds left in the game, and virtually the entire Dragon defense on him, Munroe jumped, his height giving him an advantage over the other players and allowing him to just barely get over them. He let loose of the ball, the tips of the guards fingers just barely brushing against it. The collective breaths of the Sharks fans cease for the few seconds as it flew across the court, landing inside the net just as the buzzer sounded. A 3-pointer at the last second secured a Sharks victory and a thunderous cheer from the crowd. Those of the Sharks who where sitting on the bench charged onto the court and soon the whole team was consumed in a dogpile.

It was indeed a momentous ocassion for the team who hailed from a nation that is not known for its' sports prowess. Competing in a region full of nations that have had expertise in the field, many were suprised at their victory, and that was just in Khazaron itself. A heart-warming scene ensued after the elation of victory settled down, when the Sharks invited the whole Dragon roster out onto the court with them for pictures and to celebrate the successful completion of another sporting event. Several Sharks players where even seen laughing and talking up a storm with their Dragon counterparts.

The Sharks plan on staying in Myrtannia for another couple days, scheduling some interviews with a various assortment of sports news groups from the region, then they plan to return to Archon City to a warm welcome and a special victory party planned for them by the Mayor of Archon City. Rumor has it that even the Patriarch himself will be in attendance to offer the team and their coaches his personal congratulations.

Lady Mystics Fall Just Short In Final
Silver is Fine ......For Now
The Lady Mystics of The Sylvanaes Kingdom were flying high into the finals matchup with the Lady Dragons of ASMV- who they had already beaten once in this tourney. Add to that a thrilling semi-final game against Myrtannia and you can easily see why The Lady Mystics had high hopes for a victory.

But the excitement and pressure of the game really seemed to affect the play of the Lady Mystics. The pace of the game was just a bit faster than our girls would have liked. And then the inside players who had dominated and controlled the first game, made silly mistakes that put them on the bench. With size not being a factor, The Lady Mystics seemed to have no control over the Lady Dragons.

But even as poorly as D&S seemed to play, ASMV could not finish them off. Run after run was answered by solid shooting from the guards - not typically a Lady Mystic strong suit. But that is the way it went down, and with 13 seconds on the clock, the Lady Mystics were still alive. Unfortunately, Sheba Tromp’s 3 point try at the buzzer rimmed in and out and ASMV won the title.

We do feel good about this tourney. And we dearly look forward to its return in AORBC III.

Silver Sharks Win. ASMV 2nd Again!

“The shot is up! And……..IT”S GOOD! Silver Sharks win! Silver Sharks win!”

That phrase seemed to be stuck in the head of every Hoop Dragon fan across ASMV. Tonight’s disappointment had once again given their boys a second place finish in the AORBC.

The game was a hard-fought battle between two teams that refused to allow the other any sort of advantage. ASMV proved time and time again why its high octane offense was so feared throughout the tourney. But Khazaron once again proved their ability to adapt to their opponents and matched the Hoop Dragons point for point.

The 4th quarter saw both defenses clamp down, and even included a rather comical sequence of steals between ASMV’s Alvaro Nouri and Khazaron’s Kwame Munroe. At any other point in the game it would have been comical. The importance of the timing held everyone in suspense. But it was Munroe who would be the hero on this night. His 3pointer a time expired lifted Khazaron to a championship and relegated ASMV to a second second place finish.

Following the game the Hoop Dragons could be seen posing for pictures with the Silver Sharks and the two teams playfully vowed to meet again in the finals of the next edition of the AORBC. Of course Lamoni and Myrtannia will have something to say about that.

Congrats to Khazaron for their Gold.

LADY DRAGONS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

The Lady Dragons took the court with one goal - avenge an earlier loss to the Lady Mystics and their team of near-Amazons. No ASMV player even cared about the title before the game began. That revenge would be taken, but it was not an easy task.

The Lady Mystics played with a purpose. But mistakes and mental lapses sent some of the big girls to ride the pine early. The Lady Dragons took full advantage and turned up the tempo. A surprise was waiting for them - the Lady Mystics kept up. That was mostly due to the lack of defense that ASMV exerted and D&S shooting nearly 75% for the game.

But with 13 seconds left, Shasta Papaleo hit a jumper to give ASMV a 3 point lead. 13 agonizing seconds and a rimmed out shot later, ASMV had won the women’s title. The Gold here is the first tournament championship for ASMV outside of Ylompic Competition. The team will be welcomed home as heroes.

We would like to congratulate all the teams here for a great women’s tourney. Hopefully more nations will see how great it was and send teams for the next go round.
