This is a brief summary of the history of Legalese. Sadly, some of the lowest lows faced in our great land have sadly seen the total records of numerous eras fall to the wayside, however enough is known to provide a series of notable events. For the purposes of this calendar, dates shall be given by using the Legal Year, a notation that follows from the first founding of the nation. The current Legal Year is 256, which also happens to be the year of the 59th World Cup. The 35th AOCAF Cup will take place in Legal Year 257, and the 60th World Cup Finals will take place in Legal Year 260.

Now that we have the referential times out of the way, let's get on with it!

Centuries before LY 1: Two settlements start to form in Middle Calania, both near the largest body of water that is easily accessible. Near Bekk Lake are the Goli, while the Nom Le settle in the flat lands around present-day Myre. As both societies move towards the middle, they mingle and begin trading various goods, and eventually people.

Approximately 20 years before LY 1: As the Nom Le and the Goli interact, trade, and grow, both socieities start to consider larger expansion. A combined force, consisting largely of the inter-bred members of the two peoples, begins heading northward, believing there to be a freshwater river ripe for settlement. While the river is not found, camps are established in the northern areas near the Nemyan Strait, near present-day Quinfrancis.

Approx. Five years before LY 1: The Arrival of the North-men (and women). The Nom Le/Goli settlers encounter a group of people said to have come from the North. Little is known about their origins, other than a believed connection to the Brittanic Empire - not to mention a resulting ethnic connection to the Starblaydi - however what is undisputed is their desire to settle near the Straitside. First contact between the societies occurs at around this time, and is surprisingly non-violent. The seeds of what would be known as The Arrangement are planted.

Legal Year 1: The year is marked by a series of movements. First is a near-shattering of the peace between the North-men and the Nom Le-Golis by a trade disagreement, reportedly in a dispute between the price venison and fish. A fistfight ensues between the disputees, though is broken up before either party is seriously hurt. In response, Capt. William Francis, the elected head of the North-men clan, met with the appointee Reyna on behalf of the native's High Council. The ending of the dispute, which set the price of venison at "Three units of equal weight in return for two units of equal weight in any agreeable form of fish from the coastal waters." This agreement, considered by many to be the first formal element of The Arrangement, was the first acknowledgement by either community of the trading and interaction between the two, and would prove vital months later.

Another important aspect of this meeting was the welcoming of the Nom Le-Goli into the village of the North-men. Prior to this, most trading was done at an appointed point midway down the road, which exists today as Mercantile Trail, running between Quinfrancis and Numalia. However, Reyna was welcomed at the gates by Capt. Francis, and given "free and full access to to the publick ways and buildings" of Numalia, the settlement of the North-men. Reyna, after returning to the native settlement, obtained a reciprocal grant from the High Council, and gave "license of the people of the North to keep and maintain all the rights and protections of our people while under the jurisdiction of the High Council."

The latter element, the protection of North-men within the Nom Le-Goli settlement, would be tested during a gruesome crime committed just months after the meeting. The end result, however, would prove vital to Legal history.
