History
Hutt River was founded in 1919 as a breakaway state from Ipeland, by Thomas Stofard and Vladimir Perry. The two founders had been banished from the Kingdom of Ipeland, along with 4,500 other people for protesting against the King and his oppressive ways. They'd noticed a loophole in the law that allowed them to form their own country. They hijacked a ship and went to an uninhabited unclaimed island next to Ipeland, and claimed the land. Things were peaceful for 10 years, albeit tense, until an Ipeland navy ship crashed into a rock near the west side of Hutt River, killing all the crew on board. The king said the people of Hutt River had "put a curse on it", which was refuted by Hutt River. Ipeland declared war on Hutt River 3 months later. Ipeland's ships advanced towards Hutt River, eventually invading and taking over the whole country, renaming it The United Kingdom of Ipeland and Hutt River. The occupation lasted for 6 hours, ended when a group of people killed the King in Ipeland, and withdrew the troops from Hutt River. Ten days later, the two countries had signed an agreement to place Hutt River where it is today.

History of Ipeland
Ipeland was probably founded in the 1500s by explorers from some nearby nations. They probably settled on the largest island, and the leader of the group called himself, King Tomas. This is the most likely story, as some archaeological evidence has been found of it.
The records are blank until the 1800s, where the king was James XVII, and the population was said to be "in the hundreds of thousands". James XVII died in 1843, and was replaced by his son, Charles. Charles' era was one of prosperity, where the economy grew with inventions like electricity and the printing press arriving. Charles died in 1902, where he was replaced by his nephew, William I. William I oppressed the people, imposing harsh taxes and strengthening defence over the economy. In 1919, Hutt River was founded, by Thomas Stofard and Vladimir Perry. William condemned the move, but did not attack Hutt River until 1929, when the "500 Day War" started. While his armed forces were fighting Hutt River, the King had a rebellion on his hands. On 3rd February 1930, a group of people entered the King's office and promptly killed him.
The group of people swiftly enstated themselves as President, and called elections for parliament, which they decided would happen every two years. The first presidential election happened in 1940, happening every 5 years. The first president was Catherine Stewart, a noted author, who stood as an independent and ruled for 30 years until her retirement in 1970. Since then, no president has lasted 10 years or more. |
