The Grand Duchy of Astograth
History
For many centuries Astograth was a divided land of 80 million people, separated into dozens of duchies and counties with no unified government. Until Aitor III arrived, that is. Because he, the duke of Rumiatzi, subjugated all others by way of words and machine-gun fire and declared himself ruler of the land.
26 years later, things have changed. It is now Aitor IV, son of the late conqueror, who governs and seeks to distance himself from his bloodthirsty father. Wielding absolute power, he has modernized and developed Astograth while keeping the separatist hunger of many sectors well under control. Whether democracy is to be the next step is yet to be seen.
Major Cities
- Rumiatzi (7.5 million): The nation's capital and most advanced city.
- Iturributa (6 million): Rumiatzi's historic rival, Iturributa is a port city with a fervent desire for independence.
- Ituraitz (3.5 million): Another port city with a strong sense of identity, despite being smaller it is Astograth's primary centre of maritime trade.
- Echegoyan (2 million): At the feet of the Blue Mountains, Echegoyan was originally a mining town that has grown impressively in the past few years.
- Basabe (1.5 million): The most heavily industrialized city in the country, Basabe has been likened to a huge factory, processing the timber it acquires from the nearby forests. |

Culture
- Official languages are Astograthian and English. The former is a language isolate that is the country's most widely spoken tongue, with English-speakers a minority.
- Football is the country's most popular sport, practiced at every level. The best teams compete every year in the Astograthian Football League and the Royal Cup.
- Christianity is the most common religion, followed by Islam and Buddhism. There is a large amount of non-believers, accounting for approximately 12% of the population.
- Recreational drugs are not regulated in Astograth.
Economy
The national currency is the Diru (Đ), and income tax rates of above 70% are the norm, with government spending heavily focused on Welfare, Healthcare and Education. The public sector is dominant, with private enterprise being in most cases outlawed. The economy is, therefore, relatively weak, though strong enough for the nation to be self-sufficient. Main industries include Tourism and Gambling. |
