History
The City-State of Phing Phong started out as an island province at the southern fringes of the Dai Nam Empire, with two cities and several towns dotted around the landscape. Poor governance in the form of religious persecution and inadequate efforts to combat poverty and disease lead to an uprising in 1923 by the people in the western town of Ponh Thị Xã. The revolution, led by Chao Phraya Deua Theow Phon, spread across the island, and the revolutionaries routed the weak island garrison. An independent City-State, based on republican democracy with fair political representation and rights, was founded. Chao Phraya Deua Theow Phon, now a national hero, was elected to the office of Hội Xiển, or head of state, as Thannarat I, and was returned to office at every election until his death in 1974. His successor, Phurai Thaklaew Jitep, was an ineffectual and unpopular ruler, and dissolved the elected Parliament when it was clear he would be ousted from office. He remained dictator until his death under dubious circumstances in 2000. Democracy was restored, and his successor, Luang M. Khrapao, an opponent of Thaklaew who spent several years in a prison camp for dissidents, was voted in as head of state. Since then, the economy has grown, and Phing Phong is slowly but surely seeking more links with the wider world. Mongkut Khrapao, titled Thannarat III as the third Council-shen, won a second term in 2005, and died from heart problems on the 13th September 2010. His successor, Council-shen Ngô Huynh, formed a coalition government between the Socialist Liberals and the Communist Party, which is currently in power.

Terrain: Flat lowlands on the coast and the south and east, rising up to hills around the centre and a mountainous area with peaks of over 1,000m.

Climate: Semi-tropical, with high rainfall in summer, medium rainfall in winter, and little variation in temperature, which is usually around 30 degrees Centigrade.
Vegetation type: Moist deciduous semi-evergreen seasonal forests, with small scale rice and fruit cultivation.
Economy
Economic System: The economic structure is a mixture of socialist and free-market elements. On the one hand, all the essential industries, namely water, gas, power generation, waste disposal, public transport, and petroleum, are state owned; on the other, many businesses and a few emerging corporations do exist and operate freely. Corporations cannot have a market share of more than 8% unless awarded an exception by the government, as otherwise many historic small businesses would be unable to operate.

Constitution: The Millenial Constitution of Phing Phong
Legal System: Laws are made by the Luanyet Hall Council and are set out in the Basic Law of Phing Phong. In certain cases then aspects of the Special Law of Phing Phong are applied, though in all but military trials the Millenial Constitution takes precedence over any legal judgement. The High Court of Phing Phong oversees all major decisions and can declare new and existing laws written by the Council to be unconstitutional and invalid.

Executive Branch: The Council-shen of the City-State of Phing Phong, elected by the people from a shortlist of the leaders of the three largest Parties in the Luanyet Hall Council.
Judicial Branch: Ten High Court Judges, elected jointly by MPs and members of the Lawyers' Guild of Phing Phong, with the Minister for Justice as tiebreaker in the case of a 5-5 deadlock.
Legislative Branch: 324 Ministers (P.D.: Phraya, T.Ng.:Thườn), including the Council-shen, one-third elected from 108 constituencies, other two-thirds by Proportional Representation.
