The Democratic Socialist States of Jesselton is a huge, socially progressive nation, one of the newer and a minnow nations of the Atlantian Oceania region. It is located in the north-east of the region, on the continent of Calania. It is notable for its devotion to social welfare.
It has a compassionate and intelligent population of over 400 million who hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion. It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Social Equality. The average income tax rate is around 40%, though it is higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out. Jesselton's national animal is the Jaguar, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, also home to the national flower: the Jesseltonian Hibiscus. Its currency is the Jesselton Dinar, with JD1 worth around UKP1.
Jesselton is named after the founder of the nation, Jesse Elton Alvarez.
HISTORY
The land where Jesselton stood now used to be occupied by the nation of Legalese and The Lowland Clans. 89 years after these two nations cease to exist, the mother of Jesselton Jesse Elton Alvarez discover this free land and decide to build its first settlement in the now-called city of Kepayan.

Language: Due to too many spoken languages exists in Jesselton that creates major communication barrier, the government has encourage the citizen to learn and communicate in English. Though there is no official law to keep it in place, English is simply the de facto language taught and used throughout the country. Some ethnic groups do retain use of their own languages, though this is never in an official capacity, as the number of speakers of these languages is relatively low.
Literacy: Education is one of the highest priority alongside social welfare and social equality on the government spending list, taking some 20% of the government budget, and this is shown in the high literacy rate for the Jesseltonian people.
