Full Name: The Republic of West Pocono
Timeline: The present year in West Pocono is 2001
Citizens: Residents of West Pocono should be referred to as Poconi (Poke-oh-nye), or West Poconi, if you are so inclined.

Population/Location:
– West Pocono does not have the 2.393 billion people that the WA claims it does. The national population, according to the 2000 Census is 309,703,554. That is a rise of 26 million from the 1990 census, and the population continues to be on the upswing.

– The nation resides in the Northwestern area of the region, and borders Sorthern Northland to the east. Both the North and South coastline provide easy access to the open seas, however to the south, the nation must contend with island territory that is part of Sorthern Northland.

States/Cities:
– There are six states within West Pocono. They are:
1) Northern Westland- From the Sorthern Northland border, extending eastward 240 miles. Despite the name, it runs the entire north to south length of the country. The largest city in the country Kingston, which has a very diverse populaiton, is in the northern portion of the state. It’s population is just over 3.5 million. However, the capital city of Northern Westland, is actually the city of Hudson, which has a simple population of only 160,000. Hudson is approximately 300 miles south of Kingston. The fifth largest city in the country, Barley City, is on the southern most portion of the state and has a population of 1.34 million. Roughly 60% of that is believed to be people who have immigrated here from Sorthern Northland. Barley City is the “alcohol capital” of the country, and the neighbors may have had something to do with that.

2) Capital District- The smallest state, only going 75 miles from the northern coast southward, and 138 miles from east to west. 92% of the population of the state are employed by the government in some capacity. The state’s capital of Rockport is also the national capital, with a population of slightly under a million. It is the seventh largest city in the country.

3) Newmonia- The remaining eastern land beside Capital District, extending halfway down the eastern border. The technological mecca of the country, and the area in which the national population is most rapidly increasing. Newmonia City is the capital, and is the sixth largest city in the country with a population over 1.12 million. Rushton and North Sterling, also cities in Newmonia, rank 9th and 10th nationally with populations of 820,000 and 711,000, respectively.

4) Centronia- Northern Westland is its Western Border, and the eastern border stops in the same halfway location as Newmonia. It is directly south of Capital District, but larger. Centronia is a primarily agricultural state, though in its northern region, there has become a boom in the automobile industry. The capital of Greenwich is the largest city in the state, but its population of 372,000 does not crack the top ten.

5) Southwestland- Located where the its name implies, it is the second smallest state, but doesn’t lack in population, with a handful of resort cities on the coast. New Southport and Southern Tier are second and third overall in the country in terms of population, which make Southwestland the most populous state. Their populations are 2.9 and 2.6 million, respectively. This area is also well known for having the great universities in the nation.

6) Pentonia- The nation’s southeastern state, and home to the fourth and eighth largest cities in the country. Nichoville has a population of 2.3 million, and Albright has 868,000 residents. Neither are the capital, however. That would be Coveville, a city of only 73,000, which are basically all state employees. You’ll find a little bit of everything in Pentonia as it’s tax rates are the lowest in the country.

Discovery (a brief synopsis):

In 1836, Kevin Rinaldi captained a boat of 33 passengers who sought to escape the civil war that was taking place in his homeland of Newmanistan. He didn’t know where he was going, and didn’t care how long it took him to find a land where he thought they could all be safe. Through trial and error (he ended up on five different land masses before deciding they were unsuitable, although killing live animals for food for his crew), he ended up at the land known today as West Pocono. Immediately he fell in love with the land, and was amazed to see it was pretty much uninhabited. Even though only 8 of the 33 passengers that were aboard the boat actually survived the journey, he contacted friends (don’t ask how), and before you know it, more and more Newmanistanians found their way here. They joined together with inhabitants and some renegade sober Sorthern Northlanders to form the country. Rinaldi was from Pocono City, Newmanistan, which is why he referred to his land as “West Pocono”. However, whether “West” Pocono is actually west of Pocono City is up for debate.

Demographics:

52% of West Poconi call themselves “Caucasian”. 30% refer to themselves as “African” and 15% as “Oriental”. 3% classified themselves as something else.

It is estimated that just over half the population has Newmanistanian ancestry at some point in their family tree as West Pocono became a popular place in the 1900's for democracy lovers to migrate towards to escape the rule of the Emperor/Empress.

The nation is 51.3% female, and 48.7% male. This mainly due to the longer life expectancy of females, which is 74 years, compared to 71 years for men.

Religion-wise, 61% follow some form of Christianity, 22% follow Judaism, 12% Muslim, 3% Buddhist, and 2% other beliefs. Those only account for the people who claimed to have a religion. A small portion of the public, 16%, consider themselves atheists.

POLITICAL STRUCTURE: (National)
1) Executive Branch
– This would be the President. Daniel Lawson (T- Pen) has been in office since 1998. Presidents serve four-year terms, and are limited to three terms. The Vice-President is not someone chosen by the President. In fact, it is the person who finishes as the top vote-getter among the rival party. Brian Dodge (V- New) is Lawson’s VP. The intention of this is to try and get bipartisan legislation across party lines.

– Speaking of Parties, there are two. Traditionists and Visionaries. Of course, there are similar parties, but no one pays much attention to them on election day for them to warrant mention.

– To be President, one must be at least 32 years of age, and be born in West Pocono. Additionally, they must have at least two terms of experience in either the legislature or as a governor.

2) Legislative Branch
– There are two “Houses”. First you have the Assembly. Every state gets one elected official per million people within the state. Visionaries hold 166 seats while the Traditionists hold 142. Assemblymen/women are elected to two-year teams with a maximum of five terms. Once they have served five terms, they may serve in the other House (though that is not a requirement too).

– The second is the Triangle. It was dubbed this due to the unique shape of the building in which all business takes place. All states have 10 members. Presently, the Traditionists hold a 36-24 advantage in the Triangle. Triangli (term used for members of this House) serve four-year terms (opposite to the President), and are also capped at five terms.

3) Judicial Branch
– The branch is made up of 11 judges, all of whom are appointed by the President. Judges will then serve 20 years, regardless of any leadership changes (barring deaths or dismissal with cause if needed). It is believed that Visionairy-minded judges hold a 7-4 advantage on the bench.

The Flag:
– The blue represents the sea in which Rinaldi traveled to find the land, and the sun represents the “light” or the eventual success of his mission. The upside triangle is a proud symbol of West Poconi, although it should not be interpreted as having anything in common with other things a triangle may symbolize.
