PLI National Map

The Paradystopi Lymryk Isles (PLI) wish to be included upon the Atlantian Oceania regional map.

The tiny islands are located in the far south-easterly corner of the current map and are of similar sizes to the majority of the islands of the Undisputed Atolls. (I have a map of just the islands outlines. If this would be more useful, let me know.)

THE HISTORY:

The Lymryk Isles existed for a great deal of time in complete ignorance that anything else existed beyond their shores besides a great ocean. This ignorance was mirrored by the outside world. The low-lying nature of the islands, combined with their minute size meant even the seafaring Vaians completely overlooked their existence. This insular upbringing and a continuing rise in the native otter populations slowly brought about sentience and eventually, the pteronurians came into being.

On the off chance that they were not alone in the world, the pteronurians quickly claimed the islands as their own. Just in case a rival group of otters from another island (if one existed) tried to steal theirs, they set up markers. These markers were flat white stones dragged to the beaches and shorelines and painted with fish blood. They all depicted the chosen symbol of their homeland. 5 Red strikes. An emblem which appeared on the Lymryk Isles flag to this day. Some of these ancient talismen still exist. The beaches near the town of Konklu Dhingamfibrak display a great array of them and the town itself is a sacred centre for many religious pteronurians.

Life continued in isolation for the pteronurians. Advancements were made in language, which began to be codified; philosophy, asking questions such as 'why are we here?', 'Is there any other intelligent life out there?' and 'why is fish so tasty?'; and the advancement of society from isolated family groups to fully fledged villages and towns.

In an attempt to answer the question 'Is there any other intelligent life?', Flatnose Wobblebottom, the famous philosopher vowed to swim out in a straight line until he found something other than the Lymryk Isles. However, after getting lost in a storm and effectively looping around in a circle, arriving back on the opposite shore of the island he set out from. He declared that the world was shaped like the inside of a jellyfish and that their islands were in the centre. No matter what direction you left the islands from, you would always end up back where you started. He also declared that no other intelligent life existed.

Such was the trust in Flatnose's judgement, the pteronurians made no further attempts to seek life away from the islands. Even to the point of refusing to listen to various sea-dwellers who assured them that other islands existed. So began many years of tranquil isolation, until the Paradystopi showed up.

Several ships of Paradystopi pioneers had left their homeland a year of so before, seeking either to claim new land in the name of Paradystopia or ally themselves to a country better than Paradystopia. The voyage had been long and arduous and supplies were running low when they happened to notice several small dots on the horizon. These dots, turned out to be the Lymryk Isles.

Their arrival was a great shock to the pteronurians, who had long ago believed themselves to be alone in the world but who had also never seen humans before. Initial greetings were cumbersome. The pteronurians, though curious, were deeply fearful of these new invaders and the humans, ignorant of the pteronurian intelligence.

Having acquired fresh water, the human's minds turned to food and several made the mistake of attempting to hunt the otters. The situation quickly devolved into an all-out war as the humans held the newly-named 'Paradystopi Bay' with superior fire-power (Paradystopi Bay being the beach south of Po ê TiknonsenÅ¡ but is no longer named as such) but amazed by the sheer numbers and organisation of the otters. As the humans began slowly advancing towards the heavily otter-populated city of Po (Ĝh in the pteronurian language, pronounced Ghoh), the pteronurians called upon the sea-dwellers to aid their cause. As the Paradystopi established a base just outside Po, which they named Tiknonsenz, the sea-dwellers mounted an assault. The result was a terrifically bloody battle which saw many casualties and fatalities on both sides. As night began to fall, the humans surrendered. They lay down their arms and left their shelters hands aloft. Although skeptical, the pteronurians also backed down in recognition of the surrender. The following morning, the acting leader of the Paradystopi; Caleb Farringdon met with pteronurian matriarch-elect of Po; Brightthroat Stinkypaws for the first peace talks.

Brightthroat drew the 5 strikes upon a rock and gestured all around, signifying that this was their homeworld. Taking a piece of charred wood from a Paradystopi campfire, Caleb drew the cross of Paradystopia on a second rock, gesturing to his followers. He then made the bold move of drawing the Paradystopi cross upon Brightthroat's rock, interweaving with the 5 red strikes before bowing his head submissively to the matriarch. The meaning of his gesture was not lost upon the pteronurians and after a little conversation amongst the elders, Brightthroat drew the 5 strikes upon Caleb's cross. Peace was declared and the rest, as they say, is history.
