(OOC: I probably put half of this in past-tense. I have a tendency to do that when I write alot.)

Due to his military background, ex-general and now President Adonis Lauir enjoyed news of militaristic value and instructed his aides to bring him news of new maneuvers as they took place. As he was finishing his work for the day and preparing to settle down for the night an aide approached him and announced that Abattoirian bombers had crossed the borders of the nation.

A bit taken aback, he asked if there was any preceeding news of the flight. When the aide could not answer his question, alarm found its way to his usually stoic features. He rushed to his war room, two flights down. He found commanders looking carefully at radar scans as the bombers approached the city. Squadron leaders looked up at him with expectant frowns. Now fearful, realization set in. 'SHOOT THE BASTARDS DOWN!' he exclaimed and ran out of the room.

A good portion of his fighting force was now in Lieno, waiting for things to come to a head with Starblaydia. Abattoir had pounced on the oppurtinity to raise itself to the forefront of international affairs. He issued orders for everyone to evacuate the building while he ran toward the elevator, frantically pressed the button on the wall that would propel him to his bunker underneath the palace. Generals and enlisted men alike stood numb as the steel door closed on them, forcing them into a certain demise.

Just as the door opened to the safety of his bunker, a deafening explosion rendered him senseless and the walls shook violently. Aides in waiting quickly pulled him to his feet and the commanders staring at the screens helplessly. They issued impotent orders and racked their brains for a way to bring the situation to a favorable conclusion. Only a few among the ranks realized that this was already an impossibility, nothing good could ever come from this. Eventually some of them fell to the floor in helpless despair. Adonis struggled to rectify the situation in his head. He had to remain calm. He had to remain calm when the pillars of his empire were cracked and his leadership becoming ragged at the edges. "BASTARDS!" he screamed suddenly.

Finally he inquired whether or not Xilian fighters had intercepted the unprotected bombers. He was told by an emotionless colonel that the last intermission recieved from any of the 8 fighters was... and played a taped recording. "Those are Krytenian planes boys. Looks like some help was already on the way!...WHAT IN THE HELL!" and then static. Adonis placed his hands over his face, tasting the sweat that had accumulated on them. He quickly threw off his expensive dress jacket, realizing its uselessness here. Diplomacy would not help him right now.

Then he realized diplomacy was the only thing that could help him at this point. He telegrammed Novus Atlantis, Starblaydia, Vilita, Crystilakere, Holy Saints, and anyone else that he could think of. The full extent of damage caused by the bombardment had not yet been speculated, but considering the number of bombers in formation he believed it had to have been immense.

"I bet it was that damn John Nwoko who did us in. The bastard stirred things up even in death. Damn Krytenia, damn Abattoir, and damn!...damn!..." he sputtered as he threw his tie in utter disgust. His subordinates approached him timidly awaiting orders. "Guage the damage we sustained first. We won't know how effectively we can respond until we know what we have to work with. See if we can rush delegates to ANYONE who will accept them. Don't send the usual brutes we use to intimidate people. Send the intellectual peaceniks I loathe so much. We will see what kind of alliances we can muster, and then we will respond." They all hurried away to complete his commands.

He reflected on his plight. Starblaydia killed his friend. Starblaydia might be the only one that could help him. He reached for his direct line to the Starblaydian government building and stopped for a moment. Only in a crisis could an enemy be an ally. An enemy be your only hope. He grabbed the phone and collected himself cooly.

Reports littered the table in mounds of unorganized data. Generals, Advisors, and large group of their personal aides piled into the room. The Prime Minister sat at the head of the table, smiling.

"So Mr. Tralin, what's the damage?" he questioned of his External Relations secretary.

"Well, sir, the Presidential Palace was desimated, we knocked out power to three-fourths of the city, demolished two military outposts including an air field. Anywhere from one hundred-fifty to two hundred casualties have been suffered, and probably a considerable amount more injured" he retorted.

"What of the President? Did he make it out?"

"We believe so...countless transmissions were intercepted from a bunker underneath the palace. If he had enough warning, it is very possible that he escaped."

Lavinsky simply stated, "Damn" and continued his interrogations throughout the room.

General Stanton was the next to be questioned on the readiness of Abattoirian forces in case of a quick retaliation. Most of the room believed that the military was generously prepared for such an attack, and could ward off any attempt for the time being with little reorganizaiton.

Aron Lavinsky was pleased. His plan had went off without a hitch except, of course, for the survival of President Lauir. Oh well, he thought, he could work around that. The next couple of days would be very busy for his office, and loads of information kept pouring in.

Around one-thirty Austin Herring left to make his trip home, where he would get some rest for the day tomorrow. His usual eagerness to help the Prime Minister came from the fact that he disagreed with him over few issues, and usually of trite importance. He had let his leader know his opinion, but it had been of less consideration than he hoped. What was done, was done. Now, he had to help prepare his nation for possibly the most trying time of its history. As he entered the doorway, his phone began to ring.

President Matt was enjoying some time in the spa (something that he rarely got to do), when the commander of the Lamoni Air Force, General Howard came up to him.

"What is it? Can't you see that I am trying to relax, General?, President Matt asked.

"Sir," the General replied, "Abattoir bombers have bombed the capitol of Xile. It appears that the Xilean President survived by being in a bunker underneath their Presidential Palace. Abattoir knocked out power to three-fourths of the city, demolished two military outposts including an air field. Anywhere from one hundred-fifty to two hundred casualties have been suffered, and probably a considerable amount more injured, sir."

"How did they get past the Xilean air defenses?"

"Confused reports indicate that the bombers might have been disguised as Krytenian bombers, sir."

Pondering this information, President Matt knew that the regional war wasn't going to be over anytime soon.

"Go on LBC's world broadcast, and reaffirm our neutral status in this conflict. We will not be drawn into this war until WE say so."

"Yes sir," the General stated, then left.

Chairman Davis sat uncomfortably at the table, his military chiefs sat around with him.

"So, how large is the Xilian threat?"

"Considerable." Army chief General Michael Versatis replied. "If they decide to attack, they certainly have a greater infantry than us, and I'm sure my colleague will agree that our navy would be outgunned, too."

"Indeed," piped Admiral Johannes, "their naval forces would smother us for sure."

"We have to strike early." The voice came from Air Force chief Shaun Hessenthaler. "Our best bet is to strike tactically and lower the threat. Bombing campaigns must begin, and begin soon."

The Chairman rose. "I'm sure you can come up with a fitting solution. contact me as soon as you have something." He rose and left the room.

The three figures left seated chattered frantically among themselves. Something big was on the horizon, and they were in on the ground floor.

Honored Leader Elana Kain, still in her first week of office, was on her first trip outside the capitol in days. As part of her new job, she was the commander-in-chief of all Ainorpispian forces, which were sizeable and had been since the War of Liberation. The regular army and navy were modeled after basic tactics taught to them by those of the Free Republic of Lamoni, combined with strategies employed by the now non-existant Psipronian military. It was today's trip to an airfield that showed the truly unique branch of Ainorpisp's military. Accompanied by Air Marshal Iyuna Harrington, commander of the A.A.F., Kain was surprised at what she found.

"As you can see, ma'am, while the Air Force does have a good number of modern jets, a majority of our aircraft aren't as such. They use the old propellor engine, modified to use environmentally-safe alternative fuel. Namely, cooking oil," the Air Marshal exlained while approaching one such plane, "This is the main fighter of the A.A.F., modeled after the P-51 Mustang, armed with six 50 cal. machine guns. As you might've guessed, our Air Force is stricly for defensive purposes at the moment."

"We still use... prop fighters?" Honored Leader Kain inquired curiously, thinking this was a big disadvantage, "Why?"

"They've proven to be more fuel-efficient than the modern jets, they're smaller and thus easier to store larger numbers of them, and for our purposes, they've never failed to defend us. Keep in mind that we do have enough more modern interceptors to fend off any attack should anyone attempt to assault our Sacred Land," Harrington listed off proudly, then asked, "You heard about the bombing of the Xilean capitol, ma'am?"

"Yes, I was informed by the International Relations Minister before I arrived. Terrible that nations in our region can't avoid armed conflict," Kain shook her head, "But the war is between those fighting it, it does not concern us. Too many children of the Golden Path perished in the War of Liberation."

"So we're remaining neutral?" the Air Marshal nodded, knowing the answer already.

"Fervently so," Kain responded as expected, "The Golden Path teaches us that peace is one of the greatest treasures anyone can obtain. We will preserve that peace for ourselves, no matter how many neighbors are fighting each other."

With that, the Honored Leader turned to her aides and requested, "Tell NANN that I will be making a nationally broadcasted speech on the issue of our neutrality. Also, contact President Matt and see if they know anything more about the current situation than we do."

"Yes ma'am," the aides nodded in unison, then rushed off to perform the duties they had been given.

"Your Direct Line to President Lauir is flashing, my Lord."

"You think I don't know that?" The Lord-Protector asked with a sneer. "Not two days ago we assassinated their top General and, to boot, he was the President's friend. Now Xile has been bombed by a combination of Abattoiran and Krytenian planes. He probably thinks its a Yellow-Continent conspiracy against him."

"But my Lord," the aide piped up, "What if Krushchev hadn't spoken to Kennedy in '62?"

"Then you might not be around to tell me what to do," he ansered drly, "I am not going to war with two continental rivals just because Xile want me to. You're right, though."

He looked at his aide, remembering the position of his Carrier Task Force just off the northern coast of Lieno.

"A helpful, interceptable radio transmission making sure Krytenia are aware of the Carrier, her task force and the Amoured Cavalry Regiment with them would be a good idea, i think."

Lord Tiberius put down the military intelligence report he had been reading and took a deep breath, trying not to laugh. He picked up the phone.

Propeller planes, indeed! he though with a chuckle, clearing his throat.

"Y'ello," he said informally, "ah, Mister President, sorry to keep you waiting..."

"Imperator! We have recieved a priority level data burst from the Xilian government. They require our assistance!"

Consvl Hybridvs burst through the chamber doors, data pad in hand and slammed it down on the Imperator's desk.

"The Senate convened over an hour ago, they support assisting our ally."

Siricvs sighed and entered a code into his data pad.

"Prepare a speech so that I may address the people. We must tell them we are moving to aid and defend our ally, Xile. Prepare the IInd, IIIrd, IVth, and Vth legions for insertion into Xile, along with the Ist, IInd, and Xth auxilaries. Ready the XIth, XIIth, and XIVth naval fleets and deploy them at the mouth of the canal, that way we can bombard Krytenia and Abattoir into submission. Get the Ist and IIIrd aerial legions into the air over Xile as soon as possible to screen against any further assault."

"Yes sir."

"Oh... And Hybridvs..."

"Yes?"

"Inform our good friend Adonis that LUCIFER is ready to help."

Posted by: Xile Aug 15 2004, 12:32 PM
President Lauir looked around gloomily as his military preparedness came together once more. Legions were arriving from Novvs Atlantis constantly and the threat of another, more crippling attack was lessened. His main goal now was to get his military communications back up and ready for anything.

An aide approached him with a data crystal, undoubtably from Novvs Atlantis. "Lucifer?" he remarked. "Must be one of Aidan's old tricks. Request more information on this 'Lucifer'. I do not want to sanction it's use without further investigation."

The President walked away to supervise the construction of his new command center under the third level of the city.

"Alright you sorry sacks of -explicitive removed-! Get moving and get to work!"

The centurion pulled a lever and the amphibious vehicle's doors dropped down onto the fine sand of the island, unfortunately crushing a few crabs. The same procedure followed suit for the rest of the hundred or so amphibious craft and soon 15,000 fresh auxiliary soldiers poured forth onto the island and began laying the foundation for a command center and clearing foliage for other military installations.

Trenches were being dug on the eastern cliffs facing the Abbatoir coast, these cliffs would be the ideal spot for the newest gauss batteries, though it would be a couple days before the specialized materials arrived from Atlantis.

Already the prefabricated barracks and medical facilities were being setup and the command center was slowly taking shape. Engineers hustled about complaining about dimensions and the softness of the ground.

Trees were being cut and hauled away to a debris pile to make way for the runways and roadways. The Legates anticipated a long war, and a few carrier groups off the enemy coast would just not be enough. A permanent or at least semi-permanent base of operations was necessary.

The head engineers predicted construction would take at least a week under optimal conditions. A soldier stood up straight and wiped the sweat from his brow and glanced to the horizon... a Leviathan dreadnought he did see, no doubt miles away, preparing to bombard the enemy shores.

Posted by: Xile Aug 15 2004, 01:15 PM
General Vertai, commander of the Xilian navy stood on the deck of the Rectifier and watched the approach of his fleet to Athryea island. NA auxiliary troops littered the beaches and he could already see the makings of a command center. Things were definately looking up.

He issued to command to the fleet to position themselves on the east coast of the island to act as a buffer between the fledgling base and any Abattoirian/Krytenian attacks.

"...yes, Adonis, I know you're outgunned....look, you must listen to me. The Protectorate of Starblaydia cannot pick and choose Regional sides here, not now." The Lord Protector's face softned as President Lauir seemed to finally understand. "Yes. I will do something, of my own choosing.... You'll see, Starblaydia just wants stability within the region."

Tiberius put down the phone and pressed a button on his desk.

"Get Fyreskar in here, on the double."

It was not long before the Lord-Commander of Starblaydia's Military Forces and Prospective AORDO Presidential Candidate General Aerys Fyreskar walked through the door.

"Aerys," the Lord-Protector got down to business immediately, "how many Naval Units can we throw into this Xile/NA/Abattoir/Krytenia mess?"

"You want to join in this insanity?" The General was taken aback.

"No, Aerys, I want to stop it."

"Well, my Lord, We have a chunk of the Navy in between Krytenia and Crystilakere, the Renown and her task force. There's a lot just sitting there or around our waters."

"This is what I want:

"Send the Renown into the waters between Xile and Krytenia and Abattoir. Make sure everyone knows that we are the Thin Purple Line who are going to kick the ass of the next person to make an aggressive move. Send in some subs and at least one Battleship too. The more out-and-out firepower, the better.

"Send over some Blackbirds above Abbatoir, Krytenia, Xile and the island of Athyrea, where Novvs Atlantis are putting their men. I want people to see that we're looking at them, not just assume we're using satellites.

"And warm up the Tiberius, please. We might be taking her for a spin."

"Are you going to be there personally, my Lord?" The General asked, obviously not wanting to risk his Lord-Protector.

"No, Aerys. You are."

[OOC: For those with statwanking in mind, the Renown is a Nimitz-class Aircraft Carrier with F-14s, F-18s and such like, plus a Naval Support Group for her. The Armoured Cav with them is made up of Challenger Tanks, Warrior APCs, Apaches and associated bits and bobs in Transport Vessels and Helicopter Assault Ships.

The SR-71 Blackbird is the cool-looking, soon to be disbanded spy plane that flies good-knows how many times the speed of sound and is practically out of the atmosphere, so you'll find it helluva difficult ot shoot down. On the plus side, it leaves a visible jet stream a metaphorical mile wide, so you can't miss it, even that high up

And the Tiberius? Just search for Doujin on International Incidents, it's one of their large-ish Carriers.]

Wing Commander Hessenthaler looked at the huge tarpaulin in front of him. He called over his second in command.

"Schultz! Get over here!"

"Yes sir?"

"I want you to see our little secret." Hessenthaler clicked his fingers, and the tarpaulin was rolled back. There, in front of the two officers, was a gun-metal grey LR1* bomber with purple decals, and what appeared to be an eagle insignia in gold.

Commander Schultz stood back aghast. "A Starblaydi plane?!? But I thought that the Starblaydis were neutral."

"They are. Leastways, it appears so." Hessenthaler smiled again. "That's the whole point. This is, in fact, a bomber from Bravo Squadron. It's just incognito. We've got six of them out back."

"Do you think it'll fool the Xilians?"

"Who said they were headed for Xile? We have reason to believe that Novus Atlantis are setting up camp at Aethryea. We cannot let this happen!"

"Scramble, sir?"

"Oh yes."

"Get those Toms off the deck, now!"

"Aye, Sir"

Currently the highest-ranking Starblaydi Officer in the area, Admiral Janosh Clarke stood on the bridge of the Renown and watched as the two F-14 Tomcats leapt off the catapults to take up patrols around the Renown and her Group. Alert-five aircraft were waiting on the decks, and alert-thirty lay safely in the hangars below. Active patrols always meant losses, whether accidents or incoming fire. Was all this becuase Aerys wanted to be a 'President-Lord-Commander-General'? That man's always had delusions of grandeur, Yanosh thought, but somebody has to try and keep the peace 'round here. Might as well be us.

Around they came for a brief pass before lighting their 'burners and soaring high over the ships below. That's the life, Free and soaring. Better than ship-bound and slow.

"Have you started broadcasting that message yet?" he shouted into the bridge.

"Aye sir!" came the muffled reply.

Good. Clarke un-folded his arms and relaxed. If everyone knows we're here to keep the peace, then no-one better be shootin' at us. Those B-1 and -2 bombers we have in the air somewhere'll see to that.

Curious about what was going on, but grumbling about the lost chance for relaxation, President Matt got out of the spa, showered, put some clothes on, and walked down to the war room in the bunker portion of the Presidential Palace.

The bunker was the result of suspicion, and caution. The food and water supplies, (which were constantly rotated), were large enough to sustain a staff of thirty for five years. The bunker was DEEP underground, with escape tunnels whose entrances were not only skillfully camoflauged, but the tunnels also had explosives in them, should an enemy attempt to storm the bunker that way. The rest is highly classified history.

When President Matt entered the war room, all of the military officers in the room stood up and saluted him. Returning the salute, he asked Defense Minister John Barak to give him an update on the latest regional crisis.

"Well Mr. President," Barak began, "Starblaydia has a carrier battle group out in the middle of the war zone, and is telling everyone that they are there to gaurd the peace. Novvs Atlantis is landing troops here, here, and here," he said as he pointed at the map. "Abattoir and Krytenia have already incinerated the Xile Presidential Palace, as you know. We are of course watching the tactics of all parties, which will give us an advantage should we have to go to war against any of the involved nations."

Just as the Defense Minister was about to go on, an Army officer came over and said, "President Matt, you have a phone call from Ainorpisp."

"Thank you, Major. You may return to your post." Matt said this as he was handed the phone by the Major.

"Aye, sir!" The Major said as he left.

President Matt lifted the phone to his ear and greeted the Ainorpispian leader...

Inside the AAF base's command center, Honored Leader Kain and Air Marshal Harrington had been reviewing the Air Force's strength. Seeing the P-51s at the airfield had made the Honored Leader curious about how much the 'majority' of the AAF was indeed propellor. In actuality, the ratio of modern jet-to-propellor aircraft was almost 50-50, with a slight majority being the alternative fuel prop aircraft. Just as Kain was going over the statistics for the AAF's main jet fighter-interceptor, the F-32, she was informed that Lamoni's President Matt had been reached on the phone.

Brushing a lock of hair out of her eye, she greeted her nation's ally, "Hello, Mr. President, I trust you are well despite recent... events? I'm not really all that good with small talk, so I suppose I should get to the point, eh?"

Looking over at the map of Atlantian Oceania, she focused her attention on the Xile/Krytenia region before continuing, "I'm going to assume you already know about the situation mounting between Xile and Krytenia. We've only just heard about it, and would like to know if you have any further information. I would also personally like to know what Lamoni's intentions are regarding the incident."

Crystilakere Act on Peace

In an effort to keep increasing hostilities to the West out of Crystilakere, the Crystili government has declared an accord of peace with all active nations in Atlantian Oceania. Named in the accord were Abattoir, Ainorpisp, Aquiliana, Feeky, Krytenia, Lamoni, NEWI Cefn Druids, Nojika, Novvs Atlantis, Pedriana, Rendition, Sarzonia, Starblaydia, Taaru, Turori, Vilita & Xile. Notably excluded from the Declaration of Peace were the nations of Exham and Stralphi. The Crystilakere government has assured that no invasive actions would occur against any nations named in the peace accord by Crystilakere sponsored forces unless provoked by a high-level threat or attack on Crystilakere main land.

Crystilakere High-Commander and AORDO Presidential Nomineee Darkablid Wolf was unavailable for comment but is believed to be wary of the threat of Krytenian Aggression and the effect it could have on the Crystilzonian landmass. With Krytenia's Eastern shores just miles accross the Crystilakere Channel from the Southern Crystilakeran Peninsula, Defensive Measures including High-Perception Radar and Anti-Aircraft machinery were quickly shipped out from Diamindokere. The Crystilakere government had had enough of the Inter-Regional Tachbe & Soul Expression affairs, and was not about to be the unlucky losers this time around just because they happen to be on the same geographic region as the elevated activity.

Rumor has it that Wolf has sent representatives to Abattoir, Krytenia, Starblaydia and Xile to discuss options for a resolution. No word has yet been received from the representatives.

Starblaydia welcomes Peace Accord

user posted image

The Lord-Protector of Starblaydia has welcomed Crystilakere's Accord of Peace as 'a bold and true statement for peace in the region'. Starblaydia does not wish to be the instigators of any Regional conflict, as we are desperate to maintain the peaceful nature of Atlantian Oceania.

Starblaydia is currently maintaining a heavy Naval and Aerial presence in along the borders between Abattoir/Krytenia and Xile/Novvs Atlantis, in case of any trouble. Those units are there as peacekeepers, and will act as a barrier to the opposing sides who are slowly sinking towards all-out war.

They will not take any pre-emptive or first-strike offensive action, but will act in defence of any attacked nation, be it Abattoir, Xile or Starblaydia itself.

We hope that our presence, along with diplomatic efforts for nations such as Crystilakere, can help to defuse the situation before any more bloodshed is caused.

Minister of Communications
Protectorate of Starblaydia

Krytenia Agree Diplomacy Is The Answer

After much discussion with the Council of Ministers, Chairman Everton Davis released the following statement:

The Krytenian Government has decided that enough blood has been shed in a conflict that could easily have been avoided. We also took a rash stance in becoming aggressors in this conflict. Bearing these facts in mind, Krytenia has decided that talk rather than action is the best way to resolve this incident, and extend a welcome to Xile and Novvs Atlantis to do the same.

Neither Xile nor Novvs Atlantis had a spokesperson willing to comment at time of going to print.

Posted by: Nova Roma Aug 16 2004, 06:49 PM
The Federation, at this moment, refuses to agree to peace talks. Troops will continue flowing to the island of Aethyrea and our naval fleets will remain on level IV alert.

All airspace above Novvs Atlantis and Aeythrea will be restricted to allied and Novvs Atlantian aircraft only. Any other aircraft detected in said airspace will be shot down.

President Matt was interrupted by an Army Staff Seargent handing him an intelligence document detailing the latest events. "It seems that Krytenia is agreeing to use diplomacy for the moment, but that Novvs Atlantis is still sending troops to Aeythrea in support of Xile. Abattoir and Krytenia bombed the Xilean Presidential Palace earlier, but there are indications that Xile's leader could still be alive. Starblaydia has sent a carrier group and other aircraft into the middle of the conflict to act as peacekeepers. We still have no word from Xile or Abattoir as to how they will react to Krytenia's decision to negotiate. As for the Free Republic itself, we are staying neutral, and keeping an eye on the situation. That pretty well sums up the situation, Honored Leader Kain. Is there anything further that Lamoni can do for you?"

::Transmitted from Xile Military Command Center::

Peace treaties are not being discussed at this time.  A horrible attack has taken place and nothing but reparations and talk of vengeance have occoured since that time.  Xile continues to send troops to Aethryea to increase the military build up and defense of the area.  Any planes other than Novvs Atlantian, and even those without expressed consent of military command will be shot down without hesitation.

OOC: No we haven't. Just the Carrier group. If you can detect reapid-reaction stealth aircraft circling above Starblaydia in case of any trouble in the conflct area then you've got better radar than... well... than what feasably exists.

"My Lord, Xile and Novvs are threatening to shoot anyone down, and that includes us!"

<Admiral, can a Carrier group get by without launching aircraft?>

"Err, yes."

<Good. Don't launch any aircraft. You won't be defenceless.>

"Err."

The Lord-Protector vanished from the screen before Admiral Clarke could formulate a response. Now they wouldn't have any aircraft in the sky, so no aircraft to get shot down, at least. But then again, they had no counter-attack capability.

"Comander, bring those Tomcats back down to the deck. Clear the skies in case some psycho decides we're a threat... Yes, Commander I know. Make sure every defence is running at high alert, and get the escorts to warm up their tomahawks, they can fire those quicker than we can launch aircraft."

This is beginning to annoy me, Clarke thought, Somebody's going to die, and I'll be damned if its one of us.

"Sir, Kyrentia is asking for a diplomatic end to the situation, and with Starblaydia patrolling the key battle spots, it's going to be difficult to launch an attack on either Xile or Novvs Atlantica" commented IA advisor Austin Herring.

The Prime Minister looked at the map on his desk, showing what activity had taken place in the past couple of day. Little sleep had deminished his usual cynicism, and at the moment he just sat with a loss of words.

"Well, it would be impossible to withdraw now Austin. I've worked too hard and waited too long for a situation like this to come up, and I would rather face certain defeat than be scared from the field" Lavinsky commented.

"However, I would like to set up neutral peace talks with whomever is willing. When the Crystilakere diplomats arrive, send them in. Round up a few delegates also, and send them out to Lamoni, Ainorpisp and Starbladia" he continued.

Aron Lavinsky had been Prime Minister of his nation for a good three years, and his job was certainly in no danger at the moment. He also knew that this campaign would more than likely be a huge black eye for him, but the end would hopefully justify the means.

"Yes sir, I will send the diplomats in right away. I will return if any new news comes across my desk. Good day" Herring answered.

Lavinsky picked up the phone and dialed for Kyrentia's leader.

OOC: No we haven't. Just the Carrier group. If you can detect reapid-reaction stealth aircraft circling above Starblaydia in case of any trouble in the conflct area then you've got better radar than... well... than what feasably exists.

OOC: Just to settle the confusion, Lamoni has been experimenting with using lasers (LADAR) instead of radio waves (RADAR).

IC: After getting no response from Ainorpisp, President Matt put the phone back, and then walked over to an Air Force Major.

"Major, how is our LADAR project working?," President Matt asked.

"Other than the power scaling problems that limit the LADAR to 50 miles on the airborne test platform, everything seems to be working perfectly, Mr. President. Everything should be in readiness for our sweep into Lemnos (OOC: island west of Lamoni), sir;" the Major replied.

"Excellent, Major. With Lemnos under our control, Lamoni will need not live in fear that a hostile power will cut off our shipping. Since no one owns Lemnos, no one should object, but put the military on alert just in case, Major."

That earned Matt a "Yes sir!," and a salute.

Just as she'd been about to answer President Matt's question, Honored Leader Kain of Ainorpisp heard the phone line go dead. Grumbling, she knew it was on the Ainorpispian end of things that the phone line had failed. It had happened before, and it happened again now, much to the new head of state's chagrin. Before she could comlain about this particular base's phone line, one of her aides came in with a message 'fresh from the presses' as one might say.

"Ma'am, this was just received from NIS headquarters," the aide informed her, referring to the Naitonal Intellegence Service, "It has to do with the Xile/Krytenia situation."

After reading the message, Elana Kain nodded slowly and finally looked up from the sheet of paper several moments later, "So Abattoir wishes to begin neutral peace talks, and will be sending a diplomat here? That's interesting. Hopefully, we can help broker a peaceful solution to this mess before it gets any bloodier. Tell their leadership that our Minister for Foreign Affairs will meet their diplomat upon arrival."

"Yes, ma'am," the aide responded, running off to carry out the Honored Leader's instructions.

Then, turning to Air Marshal Harrington, the Honored Leader ordered, "Though I doubt anything unfortunate will come our way, I'm going to put the Air Force and Navy on at-ready status. In addition, I would like to have some of our F-32s in the air to patrol in our area, just to be safe."

"Yes, ma'am," Harrington saluted, then went to work to fulfil her leader's requests.

"I must return to the capitol to address the people, so may the Golden Path guide you all," Kain announced to those present, then headed back to her waiting car to return to the Capitol.

Getting an update from the NIA (National Intelligence Agency) about Abattoir desiring to hold neutral peace talks, President Matt fumed about the notoriously lousy phone system in Ainorpisp.

Grabbing one of his aides, President Matt told him, "I am tired of having the line accidently cut off when i'm talking to our Ainopispan allies. I want you to go to the headquarters of our various telephone companies, get their estimates for installing a satillite phone system in Ainorpisp, and then fly over to Ainorpisp in order to present the cost estimates for such a national phone system. Hopefully, they will agree to let us install the system. Your job is to get them to at least consider the possibility."

The aide nodded and left, off to do his assigned duty.

Looking to another aide, he said, "When the delegate from Abattoir arrives, I want him to be immediately escorted to the office of the Foreign Minister. No delays. I want to know what Abattoir is going to offer us."

"Yes sir!," came the response from the aide, and he ran off to see to his instructions.

Turning to an Army Colonel that was just about to go off duty, President Matt told him, "I want you to draft a letter of demarche to the Ainorpispan government, telling them that we are sending an envoy. Make certain that they get it before midnight."

"Yes sir!," the Colonel replied.

With that, President Matt turned back to maintain a close eye on the situation.

Construction was going well, just a few days ago, the Pontifex Maximvs had arrived and made a sacrifice to the gods to bless the completion of the command center.

The command center, a marvel of Novvs Atlantian military engineering was constructed partially underground where the main command rooms and equipment resided. The remaining portion was merely eye-candy, two granite arches intersecting with a dome like structure being built to conform with the remaining space. Inside this dome was the elevator that would take any persons (with proper authorization of course) into the command center.

As for the rest of the base, an outer perimeter wall had been established on the western portion, with a small (but suitable) access road into the base through an automated gate. Two of the eight gauss batteries had been completed on the eastern cliff tops and a series of barracks had been built up (though not fully accommodated) and a few anti-air emplacements had been brought in.

Runway areas had been cleared but were not yet paved nor prepped. The air control center still had to be built up and there were no where near enough medical facilities left.

However, for the time being, construction was following the allotted schedule.

Chairman Davis sat in his Cabinet Chambers, various ministers gathered at the table around him.

"We appear to have reached an impasse. Our allies want to talk, but the Western Powers insist on warmongering."

"So what do we do?" Foreign Minister Peter Ainori piped up. "We could never make it west across the Channel by air, and sending Naval forces would not put us on a good footing with the Starblaydis, and that's all we need."

"Don't worry, we have a plan..."

Special Forces Command was buzzing as the first transmission came across from their two "secret weapons".

"Base, this is Victoria One. Currently on a bearing of two-four-niner. Oxygen tanks currently at accepatble levels. Package stored safely, delivery system currently at 80% efficiency. Victoria Two following at good pace, comms beacons working fully. ETA is seven hours thirty."

SF Commander Gordon Verilas smiled. "Excellent work Victoria One. Keep us posted on developments. Base out." He turned to Comms Officer Fred Suleyman. "Any word from Jubilee One?"

His timing was almost comically accurate.

"Base, this is Jubilee One. Bearing steady at three-zero-two. Package safe, delivery at 77%. Jubilee Two and Three both AOK, comms in full order. ETA seven hours forty-five."

Verilas addressed his second vehicle. "Continue as planned Jubilee."

The Commander was much pleased by the messages. He went to the phone, and informed the Chairman of the news.

"We have attempted diplomacy, however the nations to our west are steadfastly refusing. However, after your plea was received, we have decided to halt all military actions for the sake of the Olympic Spirit.

Waiting for the national broadcast to begin, Honored Leader Kain sat behind her desk, in front of the Ainorpispian flag. She had been quite busy of late, preparing for this address, reviewing the Ainorpispian Olympic athletes, and a letter that had just arrived from the Lamoni government. The latter was to wait until she had finished her speech to the people of her nation. Taking a deep breath, she watched as the cameraman counted down to the beginning of the broadcast. 3... 2... 1..

NANN presents a live broadcast from the national capitol, Sarmatia, by the Honored Leader...

Good evening, fellow Ainorpispians. I am honored to be addressing you from this place, full of the history of generations past. Only recently was I elected Honored Leader by the High Council, but I trust in the Golden Path to guide our judgements as a people and as a nation.

We live in a distressed world, where certain nations have turned to open armed conflict to solve disputes. The bombing of another nation's capitol and the destruction of a national landmark such as a presidential palace are not a healthy way to get a point across. Things that can be solved with diplomacy should never result in the outbreak of war. Even as I speak, the nations of Xile, Krytenia, Abbatoir, and Novvs Atlantis sit upon the brink of all-out war. While Ainorpisp understands the need of Xile to respond to an attack upon their soil, we are concerned about any further spilling of blood.

Some nations, however, have kept a level head in this situation, and have taken their own steps to help bring an end to the conflict. Starblaydia has sent forces to ensure that neither side attacks the other, to preserve the peace. I would like to take this moment to thank them for their efforts in that respect. Our closest friends, the Free Republic of Lamoni, have chosen to remain neutral, and that is also what our nation has decided to do. This is not our battle to fight, and we will not be dragged into a war that does not concern us. Not one drop of our blood will be spilled when our interests and safety are not threatened. To put it bluntly, Ainorpisp will follow the mantra we have always followed: Ainorpisp never goes to war because we want to, we only go to war because we have to.

This year, our region will be holding its first Olympic Games, an event that we hope brings together the international community and creates a better understanding of our neighbors. Ainorpisp will be sending a large team of athletes to Avid-Diord, the host city of the Games, once their safety is assured. With the host nation involved in the aforementioned situation, we fear for the well-being of all competitors while open conflict is still a possibility. Therefore, I have decided that until both sides of the conflict agree not to engage in war during the Games, Ainorpisp's athletes will stay home. This position will change if their safety can be assured by the Krytenian government, however.

May the Golden Path guide us all and bless our Ainorpispian motherland. Thank you, and goodnight.

As the broadcast switched to an image of the national flag waving proudly while the national anthem played, Elana Kain motioned the cameraman out. Now that her address was completed, she would return to other pending business.

"Bring in the letter from Lamoni, please," she asked of her aide, who went to do so.

President Matt was awaiting his own address to his people. He had refused makeup as he thought that it was dishonest. That he looked good normally was all that really mattered. He had agreed to let the presidential barbers style his hair, though.

"We are on in ten seconds, Mr. President."

Precisely ten seconds later, the show started.

"Welcome to LBC's World News Sunday. I am Tim Brognola, and with me today, is President Matt. Welcome to the show, Mr. President."

"Thank you Tim. It's always an honor to be on your show."

"Mr. President, it looks as if the Xile/NA vs. Abattoir/Krytenia situation could bring violence at any moment. What is your response to that?"

Ready to make his statement, President Matt got to the point:

"Tim, as you know, Lamoni is neutral in this conflict. The only reason that we would get involved is if one of the parties in this conflict targeted either us or our Aninorpispan allies. Other than that, Lamoni will not shed the blood of it's citizens in a conflict in which we have no quarrel. We hope that the hostilities will stall long enough that the Aolympics in Krytenia can move ahead as scheduled. However, we will keep our athletes in Lamoni if their safety cannot be assured while competing in Krytenia. It is our sincere hope that the Starblaydi intervention will help to keep matters within the diplomatic arena instead of open war, but we shall see what happens."

"It's been rumored that we have sent Ainorpisp a proposal to improve thier notoriously unreliable telephone system, Mr. President. Is there any truth to these rumors?"

"The Free Republic, acting in conjunction with our national telephone service companies, have indeed sent Ainorpisp a proposal to improve thier national telephone system by installing a new satellite national phone system. A Foreign Ministry official is on his way to Ainorpisp at this very moment to discuss this matter. It is strategically important to have reliable communications with both allies and enemies at all times. Otherwise, misunderstandings have been known to lead to wars."

After the interview had concluded with questions on various domestic issues, President Matt then went to NIA headquarters to find out what Lamoni's intelligence services had found out about the crisis.

Posted by: Lamoni Sep 6 2004, 09:38 PM
Making it back to the Lamoni Presidential palace from NIA HQ, the first thing that President Matt did was to think about what was going on in the South Cove conflict. He knew that a temporary ceasefire was in effect due to the Aolympics. He also knew that the conflict would likely heat up again once the Aolympics were over. Mulling the problem over, President Matt suddenly saw a possible way to end the conflict. He sent for the ambassadors of all the nations involved in the conflict to date (NA, Xile, Krytenia, Abattoir, and Starblaydia), in order to send a message to each nation. Still, he had the Starblaydi ambassador come in early, as Starblaydia was neutral, and President Matt had some things he wanted to discuss with the Starblaydi's before the others showed up.

Posted by: Starblaydia Sep 7 2004, 10:11 AM
In accordance with the severity of the situation, Foreign Minister Lord Isaac M.C. Chisoko was sent to Lamoni's Presidential Palace, with orders to find a peaceful solution ot the situation.

"Mister President," Isaac said. "The Lord-Protector of Starblaydia wishes for a swift and peaceful solution to this, believing that a diplomatic dialogue can smooth out the current tensions in the South Cove area. We know that Abattoir and Krytenia made the first aggressive moves and now wish to distance themselves from a full-scale conflict.

"I believe an airing of grievances and standing down of forces on both sides would aid this aciton. Do you have any comments on this, or anything you fell should be added to a peaceful proposal?"

Posted by: Xile Sep 7 2004, 05:28 PM
The nation of Xile has decided to agree that peace talks are the only way to resolve this issue. However, Xile only agrees to the talks under these conditions...
  • the meeting be held on neutral territory
  • the building be soundproof and in an isolated area to avoid attack
  • that ambassadors and leaders not be notified of the location of the meeting until arrival
  • President Lauir himself will be attending the meeting as a sign of good faith, and hopes the other parties (Abattoir, Krytenia, AORDO leader, the neutral nation, and Novvs Atlantis) will follow suit.

When the Starblaydi Foreign Minister had finished his statement, an aide came in before President Matt could begin to reply. The aide handed President Matt a sheet of paper, and reading it, decided to share it with his Starblaydi guest.

"This is a situation report from the Free Republic's Foreign Ministry. It seems that word of our proposed peace talks has leaked out. Xile and Abattoir agree to the talks with the following conditions:

1. the meeting be held on neutral territory
2. the building be soundproof and in an isolated area to avoid attack
3. that ambassadors and leaders not be notified of the location of the meeting until arrival
4. President Lauir himself will be attending the meeting as a sign of good faith, and hopes the other parties (Abattoir, Krytenia, AORDO leader, the neutral nation, and Novvs Atlantis) will follow suit.

And, Wapahkoneta has volunteered to host the peace talks."

Looking up from the paper, President Matt thought for a second, and said, "Since everything seems to be getting laid in stone before we've even finished speaking, I think that it would a good idea if Lamoni sent an observer to the talks. Since you are here, would Starblaydia be ammenable to a trade agreement? It would be a way to help take down any walls of mistrust that may have arisen between our nations during the delegate campaign."
