Ice get thawed out as Fmjphoenix goes winless in first hocky tournament

The only remote good match for the Ice was their last, a 2-2 draw in OT against Turori. Maybe next year will be more fruitful as the team shall work harder and prepare to play better and compete harder.

Record Viewing Numbers Expected For QF Clash

SOTV, the country's first and most successful television company, has predicted that well over 100 million people will tune in to watch the live coverage of the AO Hockey Championsip quarter final clash between Vilita and Crystilakere, a record for any sporting event in the history of SO. Polling done by the company suggests that around 40% of the country will turn on their sets to see which of these teams will face SO in the semi-finals of the tournament (SO avoided the QFs by finishing top of their group).

"It's an exciting time for the country, and it's great to see that so many people are getting behind the team, with the help of our live coverage [said SOTV director, Kliff Juranek]. We will have twenty seven cameras at the game, picking up all the highlights, all the shots and all the goals. With us, you won't miss a thing."

It is predicted that Vilita will come out the better of the two sides, and will go on to replay SO in the semi-finals. The Vilitans were the only team to beat SO in the group stage, doing so 3-1, and it is expected that the team won't progress to the final. However, they have done remarkably well, considering their lack of experience in the game, and the whole country will be behind the team, whether they watch the game or not.

Chacor make Semi Finals

The Chacorians have surprisingly gone 3-0-0 (1 OTL) in the group stage of the AOH, and have thus qualified for the SemiFinals as winners of Group 2. Chacor's ex-colonial masters' CoH cohosts South Osettia won Group 1, also getting a bye past the quarterfinals. Chacor will face Lamoni or Cockbill Street in the Semis.

Vilitans shift focus towards Cherry Cup

The Vilita Regional Ice Cats will be fielding a deplated lineup against Crystilakere in the buildup to their clash with Sarzonia in the Cherry Cup Knockout Round. The Ice Cats will be facing their regional rivals for the 3rd time in the cup and will be looking to continue their success and earn a spot in the next round where they would face another rival, Starblaydia.

SO To Replay Vilita In SF

The identity of South Osettia's next opponents has been revealed, and it has ended with SO facing Vilita for the second time this tournament. After last night's B team beat Crystilakere 3-2 (the match was watched by over 120 million South Osettians), it is likely that there will be no more luck for the young team, as stated by the coach:

"I don't think it is plausible to expect a win here. Vilita are just amazing, and we've alreayd lost 3-1 to them once. Now their B team is chewing up the opposition, and I feel like this will be the end of the road for us. Nevertheless, we will fight valiantly, and hope that we can get somewhere with that. At the very least, we may be ranked highly for the next tournament, and that must be where we look to now."

Vilita won this fixture 3-1 in the group stage, and a similar scoreline is expected this time. We wish the team the best of luck, but an early return home seems to be the most likely course of action now.

Street Make Success Again?!
Rugby, Hockey...What On Earth Is Going On?

After scraping through the group stages of the Atlantian Oceania Hockey Cup, somehow managing to beat Vilita 2-1 in the group stage to avoid getting knocked out by Turori, the Streetians somehow squeezed past the college-team of Lamoni by 2-1 after over-time, thus reaching the semi-finals. The few in the Street who care about ice hockey - the sport ranking about 26th on the nation's priority list, somewhere around archery and lawn bowls, but well ahead of helmetball - decided to turn up in the Squirrel House in Yeaddin to watch the second match, against the Red-Yellow-Blue-Blacks of Chacor. After the Streetians had employed a Karela-like hockey in the group stage, but against Chacor and with some red and blue Streetians in the crowd, they pulled off the best they had. The game was closely fought, staying at 2-2 after two periods, but in the third, Nick Whelan won the Streetians the game. First he scored a slap-shot from the blue line that gave them 3-2 with only three seconds left of the power-play, then he set a crucial tackle when a Chacor player threatened to come one on one, and finally he scored the 4-2 goal in a fight in front of goal where he got the deciding touch under the Chacor keeper and into the net. Despite a late come-back with three minutes from time, where the Chacor team rallied, they took out the keeper in the dying seconds and Whelan could complete the hat-trick. The convincing 5-3 victory means that the Streetians have somehow reached the final of the championship, where they are playing the hosts, Vilita. A Streetian victory stands at a healthy five to one at the bookmakers, the Vilitans being huge favourites at home, but anyone can hope.

And just in case you didn't know who they are, the Streetian first line (the other three lines are too many and too infamous to be bothered with):

Goalkeeper: 28 Pete Andrews, Swyton Slashers
Left Back: 32 Liam Wanderer, Vimesbairn Tigers
Right Back: 18 Olaf Foreignbasher, Likh'gokh Ruth'kah'ba
Left Wing: 8 Ivan Davis, Rizh'peith Irgo'ba
Center: 10 Bjorn Axewielder, Chesham Rangers
Right Wing: 34 Robin Chatwick, Jotneheim Trolls

Vilita takes home first Regional Trophy

--------------------The Vilita Ice Cats celebrated their first National Trophy in hockey today, as they overcame Cockbill Street 2-1 in overtime thanks to a River Suzgar even strength goal. Hockey is quickly becoming one of the biggest sports in Vilita, despite the relatively warm climate. The Northern town of Yeaddin is becoming a center of Hockey, and hosted the First Atlantian Oceania Regional Final. The Cockbill Streetian team held its own in the match which the Vilitans were favored to win at home, but the fans in Yeaddin would get their cheers with Suzgars goal 14 minutes into the first extra session. Yeaddin has been a central point of internationstatal success recently, with the Yeaddin Owls AFC Football Team and the Yeaddin Squirrels Hockey team winning their respective Internationstatal Club Championships. Yeaddin will look to add another accolade to their ever-growing reputation in sport in their bid to win the Cherry Cup 9 hosting rights.
