Nephi topples Gabalfa

The Nephi Bears looked like they were having a good time as they trounced the Gabalfa Raiders (Rovers?) 2-0. Allan Tippie and Max Cuenca scored for Nephi, and excellent goalkeeping stopped Gabalfa cold. The win puts Nephi into second place in group c, well within striking distance of first place Iskara Daii of Starblaydia. The Bears face these same Raiders again in their next match, and Nephi is expected to win this one as well, putting them in a pretty favorable position in the group; with the ability to take first place if Iskara Daii either loses or draws.

Nephi - 2 Allan Tippie (30) , Max Cuenca (45)
Gabalfa - 0

Karakan defeats Montepool, moves to 2nd place

In a close and exciting match, the Karakan Wolves stuck it to NB's Montepool Waves 3-2. The win moves the Wolves to second place, with Montepool retaining the first spot (for now) due to goal difference. Both Lamonian teams seem to be doing fairly well, and are in excellent positions to take first place in their groups. What a difference from the first AO Champs league, where the Lamonian teams did not do well at all. Ted Kubik is turning out to be quite a goal scorer, with all three Karakan goals to his credit. Known as the secret weapon of the Karakan team, he was able to bring the club to second place in the Lamonian national rankings; behind the Lamonian Cup winning Nephi Bears, who are also in this tournament.

Karakan - 3 Ted Kubik (5, 15, 25)
Montepool - 2 (30, 35)

Owls on a Roll

The Yeaddin Owls have taken strides towards their first ever Regional Domestic Championship by sweeping the opening three matches of their group stage campaign. The Owls were undoubtedbly labeled favorites prior to the start of the competition, however their failure to perform to their own high standards in the last regional competition may have caused some experts to be skeptical of the chances of the Vilitan side. The Owls have sent a clear warning that they are here to compete this time and they will not be underestimating any of their opponents en route to the final stages of the competition.

Nephi draws with Gabalfa, moves to third on Goal Difference

In this scoreless match, there was a lot of great defense, but not much else. While this means that Gabalfa has yet to score on the Bears, Nephi was hoping for a win in order to retain second place in group C over the Iskara Daii; who lost their match today, but retain second place due to goal difference. Nojika's Corl Cove FC is in Group C's top spot, and that is certainly a place that no one seemed to expect them to be. The Bears face Corl Cove FC next, and would like a win to redeem their 2-1 loss in the last match between the two teams.

Nephi - 0
Gabalfa - 0

Karakan draws with Montepool Waves, retain second spot

In a match that was highly reminiscent of the last match between these two teams, time ran out with both sides tied 2-2; giving both sides a point, and keeping Karakan in second place in Group E. Cody Barco and Darren Wilhoite got the scoring honors for Karakan, who faces Spruitland's Albertine FC next. The last time that Karakan faced Albertine FC, the Wolves won 2-1. Karakan is projected as the heavy favorites in this upcoming match, but we shall see if the Wolves have what it takes to defeat Albertine FC again.

Karakan - 2 Cody Barco (20), Darren Wilhoite (25)
Montepool - 2 (15, 16)

Shirko Sinks Spruits

Thiel United 1 – 1 Hypocrium City

A match between sides from Spruitland and Hypocria is always an occasion and this was no exception. Thiel’s modest Tootsie Field ground was packed to the rafters as the home fans looked forward to what they hoped would be their second win of the campaign.

Much like the international games between the two rivals there was little separating the two sides. The first half came and went without a goal but in the second the deadlock was finally broken. Thiel winger Balt Luyckx sent the home fans into raptures when he beat Derevko midway through the second half but they were silenced ten minutes later by Hypocrian international Andrei Shirko’s equalizer.

Hypocrium City 3 – 2 Thiel United

There was little time to reflect on the point picked up in Spruitland as the next round of matches pitted the sides against each other again, this time at The City of Hypocrium Stadium in the Hypocrian capital.

It took just five minutes for the home side to take the lead when captian Paul Blake headed home a Veron corner. Thiel responded less than two minute later through Ben Thorsen. Shortly before halftime Thorsen bagged his second to give the visitors a narrow lead at the break. The Hypocrian champions roared back in the second half and a well struck Horacio Veron freekick levelled the scores. In stoppage time Shirko became the hero again as he picked up the ball on the edge of the box and confidently steered it past Samuelsen to give Hypocrium City all three points.

“Obviously it’s always nice to beat a side from Spruitland”, coach Roeder said after the match. “But more importantly we came into these two matches with one point and now we have five so our position is a lot healthier. We’ve got a tough trip the Fmjphoenix next but we’re confident. Look at the table, this group’s still wide open, anyone can win it.”

Wild Ride for Reavers

Woodstock Wild 3 – 2 Pylos Reavers

It’s fair to say that Pylos Reavers travelled to Sarzonia to the home of the reigned Champions League winners not expected a great deal but they put up a good fight.

It didn’t look good for the Reavers as Woodstock raced into a two goal lead after strikes from Lemke and Convey. But the Bettian connection came good again as York turned in Mumtazi’s low cross shortly before halftime to keep Reavers in touch. Woodstock restored their two goal advantage thanks to Lemke’s second of the match but the side from Pylos struck back again through Beck. Beck’s goal set up a nervous end to the match for the home side but they held on quite comfortably.

Pylos Reavers 2 – 2 Woodstock Wild

There was a capacity crowd at the Oceanside to cheer on the Reavers in the return fixture against Woodstock Wild.

The home advantage showed as Borgetti struck to give the home team the lead. But there is a reason why Woodstock are the holders of this competition and their class started to show. Lemke again proved to be a thorn in the side and it was he who levelled the scores. But in the 35th minute Bettian international Judson York latched onto a long pass and raced through before firing past Sandt. At halftime Reavers lead but would it last? Well, no. Sarzonian international Brian Wilson showed his coolness in front of goal to score the equaliser. Woodstock through players forward after that but the Reavers hung on for the point, just.

“We all knew this group would be difficult”, admitted Reavers coach Alex Santoro. “But look at it this way. The national team spectacularly failed to score against Sandt in two matches and we’ve put four past him. I think we can be proud of our efforts.”

Nephi beats off Corl Cove FC

In a match that was not exactly what one would call exciting, the Nephi Bears upset Nojika's Corl Cove FC 1-0. The win puts Nephi in second place, due to goal difference against Starblaydia's Iskara Daii. It also places Nephi in a good position for knockout contention. While it would be nice for a Lamonian team to win the AO Champs League cup (especially with AOCAF coming up), it is not a matter of great concern to the Lamonian teams in this league. Instead, they are having fun proving themselves in international competition, and it's rumored that Lamoni's AOCAF squad will consist of the two Lamonian teams playing in this league. Allan Tippie scored the only goal of the match, at 20 minutes.

Nephi - 1 Allan Tippie (20)
Corl Cove FC - 0

Another draw for Karakan

Preparing for the match with Nojika's Rozier City FC, this match was seen as more of a sideshow for the Wolves. Even the result does not suprise most Lamonian comentators, as Karakan was not putting their full effort into the match. While Karakan obviously did not want to lose the match, they are quite happy with the 1-1 draw. Oddly enough, both Lamonian teams now have 2 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. Either way, both teams are calculated as likely to enter the knockouts, and do well there. Cody Barco scored the lone Lamonian goal at 35 minutes into the match.

Karakan - 1 Cody Barco (35)
Albertine FC - 1 (40)

The draw for the Last 16 has been made on behalf of the Nedalian FA by an FAB employee pulling numbered bits of paper out of his shirt pocket. The draw was made in two halves - the first half consists of the top four ranked first-placed teams playing against the top four ranked third-placed teams, and it looks like this:

Coleford Town vs Sunny Slope FC
Yeaddin Owls vs Nephi Bears
Montepool Waves vs Inland Peaks
Iskari Daii vs Saugertis Snakes

The second half of the draw is made up of the remaining first-placed teams and the second-placed teams, thusly...

Rappor FC vs Corl Cove FC
Vanguard Eagles vs Karakan Wolves
Patriots Everton vs Stanton Town
Woodstock Wild vs Hypocrium City

The only stipulation was that no teams from the same group should play each other in this round - thankfully the 'bits of paper in the pocket' technique was random enough to avoid this.

Nephi loses to Iskara Daii, face Yeaddin Owls

It seemed that Nephi couldn't score no matter what they did in this match. Whatever they did, the Daii had an answer for it, almost immediately. The loss doesn't knock Nephi out of contention, but it does have them face Vilita's Yeaddin Owls in a match with no certain result.

Nephi - 0
Iskara Daii - 2

Karakan defeats Rozier City FC, face Vangaurd Eagles

In a very close match, the Karakan Wolves came through with flying colors, winning 2-1. Both teams scored their first goals within the first 30 minutes of the match, and it was not until the 89th minute that Cody Barco was able to score the match winning goal. Karakan faces the Vangaurd Eagles next, and this match also has no certain result, but we guess that it will probably be better than Nephi's match against the Yeaddin Owls.

Karakan - 2 Darren Wilhoite (10), Cody Barco (89)
Rozier City FC - 1 (29)
