Ainorpispian Athletes Granted Green Light for AOlympics

by Russell Cleland, Sarmatia News-Times

SARMATIA - Today, the High Council, in conjuction with the High Priestess and Honored Leader Kain, unanimously agreed to okay the travel of the entire Ainorpispian olympic team. Recent international incidents involving the host nation, Krytenia, had left in question whether or not they would be allowed to travel abroad. In an interview with the News-Times, the national chairman of health & athletics, Councilor Ygor Tepes, stated the Council's belief that it is safe to send the Olympians to Avid-Diord.

"If we live constantly in the fear of what might happen, we will never be able to compete on an international stage. The AOlympics are a unique opportunity to expand not only our international relations and goodwill, but also to field an international team for the first time in our nation's history. For too long, Ainorpispians have seen only the small-scale national games. This is our chance to finally experience the vastness of competition amongst the many nations of Atlantian Oceania," the Councilor explained.

While Ainorpispians have watched with great interest the international competition in Atlantian Oceania, most notably the AOCAF, they have never themselves entered into any such event. This marks the first time anyone outside our country gets to see Ainorpisp's best athletes compete, a milestone not lost on Virgen Swimmer, one of the many competitors who will represent Ainorpisp.

"It's been a long time coming, but finally we all get to show our stuff to the world. This is going to be the highlight of a lot of careers, including my own. Collegiate titles are one thing, but going for medals in Avid-Diord against the best of Atlantian Oceania is on a whole new level," said Swimmer, who will be competing in the 100m and 200m freestyle events in (coincidentally) swimming.

The AOlympians are scheduled to leave Sarmatia Inernational Airport tomorrow at 10 AM local time. While they are away, the athletes will be able to communicate with their loved ones via complimentary cellular phones provided by the government. Ainorpisp's newly installed telephone service, based on concepts from companies in the Free Republic of Lamoni, will make their calls not only simple, but for the first time, reliable as well. There is even talk of a new national anthem being announced in time for the AOlympics, including another first - lyrics.

"We want the men and women of the Ainorpispian AOlympic team to have the very best support we can muster. That includes an anthem that they sing along with should they wish for it, as our current anthem has proven to be unpopular amongst not only the athletes but the public at large," Honored Leader Kain announced, "But more importantly, the entire nation of Ainorpisp is behind our Olympians all the way. It is an honor to compete, and hopefully our athletes will return home with medals as well."

Ainorpispian media coverage will include NANN's sports chief Graham Palin.
