for 'The Bear Islands' _ The paw-prints mark the dominating presence of 'Bears', of course, and are five in number to represent the fact that the country (or the older one off-map, from which its settlers came?) has five main islands or island-groups. The blue colour of the 'field'' is [equally obviously] for the surrounding seas, that link the islands together and provide the 'Bears' with much of their food, whilst the paw-prints are in yellow mainly to show-up well against this background... and using this colour only replaced the practice of leaving them as un-dyed areas of the flag's underlying material quite recently. |

The blue represents the sea on which out nation gains much of its food as well as trading, a historically important activity. The black represents the land on which the people live, and the flag as a whole represents unison of the lives of the people. |
