So, welcome to AOHC III! Let's hope you'll like your experience of trying to beat Hockey Canada tongue.gif

This time, I thought about a format that might be original... I'll be dividing the 10 teams in 2 divisions: East and West. The top 3 of each will qualify for the 2nd round robin round, where every qualified nation will play in the same group. Top 4 then qualifies to Semi-finals then to the final. Questions anyone? No? Then, let's continue.

Here will be the divisions:

East:
Oliverry
Hockey Canada
Pacitalia
Dorian and Sonya
Andossa Se Mitrin Vega

West:
Lamoni
Myrtannia
Krytenia
Milchama
Bettia

Here will be the schedule for the first round:

MD 1
Oliverry vs Hockey Canada
Lamoni vs Myrtannia
Pacitalia vs Dorian and Sonya
Krytenia vs Milchama

MD 2
Hockey Canada vs Pacitalia
Myrtannia vs Krytenia
Dorian and Sonya
Andossa se Mitrin Vega

MD 3:
Oliverry vs Andossa se Mitrin Vega
Lamoni vs Bettia
Hockey Canada vs Dorian and Sonya
Myrtannia vs Milchama

MD 4:
Oliverry vs Dorian and Sonya
Lamoni vs Milchama
Pacitalia vs Andossa se Mitrin Vega
Krytenia vs Bettia

MD 5:
Oliverry vs Pacitalia
Lamoni vs Krytenia
Hockey Canada vs Andossa se Mitrin Vega
Myrtannia vs Bettia

Good luck everyone for 1st round!

EDIT: Btw, I forgot about rankings... I'll be using those of CC19, so here they are:

2. Bettia
3. Oliverry
6. Hockey Canada
11. Pacitalia
29. Milchama
40. Krytenia
all others will be ranked 50

my test sims showed that a 50 ranked team has some chances to win against a 10th ranked team so scores should be very interesting

Meet the Myrtannia Flames

Well, we don't expect to do well in ice hockey, but here we are anyway, with the official roster for the inaugural Myrtannia Flames hockey squad. Much like the Dryads football team, the Flames are mostly female... in fact, with the exception of the reserve goalie, they're all female. Our girls are just out there for the exercise and fistfights. Amongst the players here are the MHL's (Myrtannia Hockey League) leaders in fights both single-season (Phylis Reath), and all time (Bonny Liebskind). They can score too (last season's league leader Kyung Madura, and top scoring MHL rookie Marita Hamara), so maybe we'll get lucky once or twice. At least we're not in the same division as Hockey Canada!

Anyway, the roster list includes: Jersey #, name, age, MHL team

Line 1
10 Phylis Reath, 19, Gondahar Icemen
11 Joanie Rodeiguez, 17, Scandon Islanders
12 Kyung Madura, 20, Niniisto Zambonis

Line 2
13 Joycelyn Burnstein, 16, Scandon Islanders
14 Kassandra Difrancisco, 18, Sakalatur Elementals
15 Bonny Liebskind, 31, Blackheart Privateers

Line 3
16 Sanjuana Dech, 19, Halosen Capitols
17 Marita Hamara, 16, Skalatur Elementals
18 Karissa Winarski, 20, Niniisto Zambonis

Line 4
19 Alanna Gangell, 17, Bunkal Fists
20 Hortense Linders, 20, Damascos Faithful
21 Lakeshia Grett, 19, Gondahar Icemen

Defense 1
22 Starla Lezak, 18, Scandon Islanders
23 Ami Riskin, 18, Bunkal Fists

Defense 2
24 Thuy Fleisner, 17, Halosen Capitols
25 Marilee Ginzel, 19, Damascos Faithful

Defense 3
1 Edie Smull, 20, Skalatur Elementals
2 Lyndsey Vellekamp, 16, Blackheart Privateers

Keepers
99 Corinna Schappach, 20, Niniisto Zambonis
00 Napoleon Beisser, 35, Lahar Basalt

Team Colors: Blue with orange and white trim. If anyone wants to throw together a design concept, we'd happily give it consideration. There are limits to what Microsoft Paint can do.

Hawks Draw with Myrtannia; are tied for second in group

This is one of those hockey games that was satisfying for neither team. While the goalies of both sides were happy with their performance; no one scored. No, this was a matchup of the defenses, and both did a good job. The offense of both sides will have to improve if either team hopes to make it past the group stages, however. We can't really expect to get a lot of 0-0 draws. Myrtannia faces Krytenia tommorow in what is sure to be a good match, while Lamoni has a day off before facing Bettia on MD 3. You can be sure that the coach will be drilling his offensive lines all day. Hopefully, that will be enough to improve them, but we are not hopeful.

Flames Blank Hawks, Themselves; Krytenia Next

Well, it should come as no surprise that the Myrtannia Flames didn't do much of consequence in their first inter-regional match. Lamoni was held scoreless by Myrtannia's stingy defense, and Myrtannia couldn't do a thing on offense either. Not surprising, considering that most of the shots the Flames managed to get were taken by either Marita Hamara or Kyung Madura, who seemed to be constantly hounded by the Hawks defense.

"It wasn't much of a game - neither of our sides could get any good looks very often, and when we did, the goalies did their jobs," defensewoman Ami Riskin stated blandly, "We really need to score some goals if we want to live to see the next round, though."

On a brighter note, the Myrtannian fans were, like in any other sport, as loud and rambunctious as could be. Many of them seem to be converted curling fans, who needed some kind of ice sport to occupy them at the moment, while the core were diehard MHL fans. Not that any of them had much to cheer about in a conventional sense, but then MHL fans aren't conventional themselves. Every hard check by the Flames, of which there were several, was cheered as enthusiastically as a goal would have been. Then came the crowning achievement of the game for Myrtannia - Bonny Liebskind instigating a breif fistfight with a Hawks player after a check against the rink wall.

While the referees broke it up quickly, the fans in orange and blue went nuts at seeing the MHL's leader all-time in penalty minutes for fighting going at it on an inter regional stage. A few mean swings later, the refs separated her from the Lamonian, and sent her to the penalty box. As the announcement of, '15 minute penalty for fighting, Myrtannia, #15, Bonny Liebskind' rang out from the PA system, the Flames fans gave the oldest woman on the team a standing ovation.

"They're weird fans, but they're our weird fans," Liebskind said in amusement after the game, "We're here to prove that we've got the toughest bunch of girls in the region when it comes to hockey. And the fans know it."

Next up will be Krytenia, who are coming off a 7-5 offensive shootout victory over Milchama. It should be an exciting game, as the offensive-powered Kyrtenians play the at the moment defensive-minded and tough as nails ladies of the Myrtannia Flames. Whatever happens, it has to be better than a scoreless tie like their first outing.

In additional Flames news, the team wore its new uniforms against Lamoni, courtesy of the wonderful folks at Sabre, Inc. of Dorian and Sonya:

The Icicles took the ice for the first time in AO competition today against Pacitalia. (Yes. The name is Icicles even if the logo looks like a unicorn. Deal with it). After a solid performance in the inaugural Winter Olympics, fans in The Sylvanaes Kingdom expected a great result.

But those unknown group of Pacis had other ideas. Three times someone scored for them, but as their players all remain nameless, we cant tell you who the hell they were. Fast and accurate is our only assessment of them at all.

But our Icicles did well for their opening game, scoring twice against that nameless defense. Van Harbeck lit the lamp in the 9th minute of the 1st period to give the Icicles a brief lead. They would find themselves down 3-1 before Renetta Stuteville would find D&S’s second goal late in the third.

We must do better defensively on MD2. That says it all. We would give you some details on that game but the schedule simply lists us as playing without an opponent. If that is the case, I am certain we will be victorious. I believe the game will be against the Ice Dragons of ASMV who are not known for their great hockey abilities.

OOC: I hope to god your players don't wear football kits on ice... that would be a sad and unnecessary pile-up of injuries. wink.gif Plus it'd look kind of awkward.
