It was a gradual process, destined to happen eventually. Life in the Libera Respvblica of Novvs Atlantis was great. Too great. The economy thrived; citizens of Novvs Atlantis earned more than any other nation's citizens and could afford more luxuries.

Education was at its peak. People from across Atlantian Oceania flocked to Nova Roma to study at the renowned Ludus Magna. Novvs Atlantian architects, scientists, engineers, professors, lawyers, surgeons, etc. All were hired by various nations to perform what their own citizens could not.

The military controlled much of the Inner Cove area of Atlantian Oceania. The Lucifer system kept any nations at bay and the legions maintained peace and prosperity throughout the nation and in the surrounding area.

Freedom was at its greatest height as well. Citizens could vote on anything from what font would be used in the next law to what nation fruit would be imported from.

It was easy to see that Novvs Atlantis was the most prosperous of all nations in Atlantian Oceania. However, that prosperity came at a cost of corruption. Senators soon started looking out not for their people, but for themselves. Morals and values were washed away by the influx of wealth and the gap between rich and poor widened exponentially.

Riots occurred daily, welfare spending increased, taxes rose, corruption increased, values disappeared, and piracy disrupted trade; on the outside, however, it appeared that Novvs Atlantis was just as prosperous as ever. Unfortunately, it was clear something was wrong when the Imperator announced a policy of isolation.

It was his plan to bring about a great change to Novvs Atlantis. He saw it when he first took office. Hell, he saw it when he turned 12; the Republic was, at best, an ineffective way of controlling the masses. He knew it would happen; the Republic would rise to a height of untold greatness, and then implode on itself.

But, he had a plan. His first step was to get Novvs Atlantis out of Atlantian Oceania affairs. A war would ruin his restoration, so he convened with the Senate and convinced them that isolation would increase wealth; obviously, it worked.

Secondly, he had to get rid of the Republic. He admired the way Augustus dealt with his Republic, letting it remain, if only to give the people the illusion of freedom. In this case, however, the Senators had gotten out of hand. The Imperator would have to start over; assassination was the only way. The Praetorians were, of course, loyal to the Imperator, but there was the problem of covering up the murder of some of the top political figures... all 300 of them and their families. It took some thinking, but the Imperator figured it out. He would charter a cruise off the coast of Lamoni, rig a yacht with several tons of explosives, and send it straight into the cruiser, hopefully incinerating all the Senators.

At home there would be chaos, new Senators would be elected, but the Imperator would rise up and begin the process of reform. It was executed flawlessly.

Divorce rates dropped as laws were enacted that made it much more difficult. Piracy was crushed as new corvettes cruised the seas, ruthlessly destroying any pirates. School attendance was made compulsory and nearly half of all tax denarii went to supporting education. Prostitution was outlawed. The Religio Romana was reinstituted as the national religion and the Imperator lead the daily rites and rituals to the gods.

The Imperator's plan had worked wonders. Soon, Novvs Atlantis was returning to its former glory. Sign up rates for the military increased as rumors spread (no doubt created by the government) that Lamoni was responsible for the murder of the past Senators. Patriotism and loyalty to the state increased ten fold and daily attendance to gladiatorial games skyrocketed.

The Imperator, however, was dealing with being crowned king. The newly-elected Senators were tying to pass acts that would make the Imperator king and would give him complete control over the nation. He refused the title of king, but kept the title of Imperator. He accepted control over the nation in the great Concession Act of 2758 (ab urbe condita). The Senate was retained, which to the everyday citizen made the whole Act appear pointless; the everyday citizens still believed that the Senate had control over the nation.

Soon the Imperator began traveling more, visiting the various cities of Novvs Atlantis to boost his image. Propaganda was spread that Lamoni was in fact responsible for the slaughter of the past Senators and the eruption of Mount Roma was proof that the gods were angry.

The Lucifer system and its sister satellites were redirected from their last target of the former island of Tachbe to the nation of Lamoni. Fortifications were erected along the N.A./Lamoni border, garrisons were setup, factories and shipyards soon began turning out their respective military products, and the R&D rats in the deepest level of the Citadel were doing their best to make improvements on existing gauss technology and think of new weapon systems.

In his final act before the war, the Imperator sent a transmission to his ally Xile, and so we are here waiting for the response of the Xilian leader.

'Sir, we're picking up activity from the Lucifer system'
'-explicitive removed-, what's happening now?'
'Sir... it has focused on Lamoni. Intel also reports a buildup of NA forces on the border with Lamoni. Also NA has increased its military strength several times over.'
'It was only a matter of time... that power hungry fool...Send word to the Minister of Defense and the Governor.'
'Immedietally, Commander.'

*Moments later, Government offices, Tromso*
'Minister, we have a message from the RDS. There is much increased activity in NA and the Lucifer system has been repositioned... on Lamoni.'
'Whats the status of the fleet?'
'Operating at full, only 2 cruisers are offline. They're in the shipyards around Tartaric IV'
'Good. Move the III and VII flottillas in system right outside of NA's sensor range.'
'Of course sir, I'll alert the Space Admiralty. Anything for the planet-side forces?'
'Tell the command to prepare their troops and up training. We may be in for a big war here.'
'At once.'

*The residence of the Governor*
'NA is beginning to become to aggresive. Send out an official response to NA's offices.'
'Yes, sir.'

In the hallowed halls of the Lamonian government, an aide approached the President. "Mr. President, intelligence reports that NA has moved their Lucifer system on to us, and are massing troops on our border."

President Matt Stone thought about it, and said: "Move us to DEFCON 3 (war-warning), recall all military personell, cancel all military leaves, have our fighters aggresively patrol the border area without going into NA airspace, activate Tempo (EMP generating bombs/missles) to make sure that Lucifer stays in hell, issue a strong statement to the NA leadership denouncing their aggresion, get word to our allies in Termaria, get word to AORDO in order to see what they can do about the threat, and to send troops, ships, and planes. Send in the defense council, and put our WMD's on standby. We will not be caught with our pants down."

The aide, who was also a Colonel in the Lamonian Army, snapped a salute, said "Yes sir!," and went out the door, yelling instructions at passers-by.

The President knew that NA had been declining for a while now, but they would have to be crazy to attack Lamoni, especially since Lamoni had never invaded NA. The only inponderable in this situation was Xile. Would Xile join in on NA's side? With that thought, the President walked over to the war room, saw that the Defense Council (President, Vice-President, Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, Joint Chiefs, and the head of Intelligence) had gathered, and told the Foreign Minister to draft a message to Xile, warning them to stay out of any possible war between NA and Lamoni.

FROM THE OFFICE OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS:

In reaction to the latest aggressive move by Novvs Atlantis, the Sarzonian government has ordered any citizens of Sarzonia in NA to return to Sarzonia at once. In addition, any NA citizens in Sarzonia are being given 36 hours notice of eviction from Sarzonia. Any previous trade agreements that may exist between our two countries are declared null and void.

We strongly advise both sides not to violate Sarzonian neutrality in this conflict, but we also urge both of you to seek a diplomatic solution.

President Lauir had to messages before him. He had of course gone over the correspondence from NA thoroughly, but the recent message from Lamoni really stuck in his craw.

He had of course been ranting for a while. "It is a WARNING for us not to intervene. Can you believe this? A WARNING! Perhaps Mr. Stone has not been properly schooled in the etiquette of foreign relations, but issuing ultimatums to another country is certainly not a way to gain amicable concessions from them."

An aide snickered, but quickly covered it up with a cough. Adonis had not heard him of course, but the irony in his statement was considered somewhat humerous to all present.

"That bastard doesn't think I know what his game is. We know good and damn well that those weapons found in Krytenia were Lamoni issue. He is lucky the issue has peaked in the public sector yet, or this may have been a problem much earlier." Adonis stopped for a second. "Alexi, tell the media department to begin some... investigative reporting... and have it on the 6 o'clock news. Might as well give the people a justifiable cause for this. Withdraw all deployed troops, and have our sattelites monitor the situation on the Lamoni border. Tell our ambassadors to retain the neutral stance in all negotiations."

"Send a telegram to Novus Atlantis. Tell them we need about 20,000 standard issue uniforms from their army. We are not going to put ourselves fully in the heat of things yet, but we need to let NA know we are serious about our previous commitments. Make sure that the troops sent are not carrying anything of Xilean issue when they leave. Let's not make the same mistake Lamoni did."

On Radio Lamoni:

We have just recieved word from the government that it will allow AORDO inspectors to count Lamoni's stocks of Psipronian weapons, which we were falsely accused of giving to anti-Xilean rebels, in order to show that we have done no such thing. The government will also allow the inspectors to witness the meltdown of said weapons to demonstrate the government's commitment to regional stability. This proposal has been sent to the AORDO President, where it will be decided if AORDO will take us up on our offer or not.

The National Secretariat of the National Assemblies fax machine buzzes and hums. The young deadlocked delegate sat reading the Hedon News paper looks confused at his watch. It's so late he thinks to himself as he walks over and rips the paper from the machine. He rubs his eyes, yawning as he skims over the contents of the fax.

QUOTE
Urgent Facsimile:

TO: National Secretariat
FROM: National Secretary - Anarchist Federation of The Free Republic of Lamoni

Message:

It has been reported that Novvs Atlantis is threatening the safety of our nation and we are calling for advice on the matter. The bourgeois rulers are shaking with fear and are calling on nations of the region to help defend its sovereignty. Are we to support the bourgeoisie in their actins or oppose it.

We await your decision.

The delegate turns and runs to the phone. He calls down to the other delegates sitting and relaxing in the Secretariat house. He relays with haste the communication just received and it is decided to convene an emergency meeting of the National Assembly.

After a few cups of strong coffee and a long and well needed visit to the toilet the other delegates arrive and meet in the assembly hall. The facsimile is read out. The first to speak is Abe Kauf, recently returned from Taaru. People turn to listen intently.

QUOTE
"Comrades the questions we must ask ourselves is two fold. What will we achieve by supporting bourgeois military operations and how will that effect our ideological purity. The answer friends, is not simple. The Free Republic of Lamoni is a relatively democratic nation compared to that of Novvs Atlantis. Our international struggle for destroying capitalism and creating an anarchist region may very well be hindered by any occupation that may happen in Lamoni. Fighting the forces of Novvs Atlantis will be more difficult than fighting the liberal force of Lamoni politics. However, our ideological purity will be damaged by the fact that we as anarchists are not compatible with that of those who serve to exploit and oppress the workers - can we exploit this situation for our own gain? We are not strong enough"

The debate goes on into the night. Pizza is ordered and delivered as the delegates argue, shout and discuss this great problem. It is decided that consensus within the regional assemblies is necessary to pass the motion of support.

The delegates, having become exhausted return to their homes as the secretariat urgently informs the regional assemblies to discuss and vote on the matter. The country is informed of the debate and the population of Emagol throw themselves into the proceedings. Cafe's, bars, universities and communes begin to discuss with enthusiasim the great question. Should we help Lamoni defend itself.

The news stops, the paper is paused on the presses, televisions are switched on across the nation and the delegates convene once again within the national assembly. Each regional assembly is linked together on the large screens constructed for national votes. The 54 assemblies in turn begin to give their result. One of the delegates turns to the person next to him shaking with excitment "The last time we required consensus on an issue was 22 years ago." The hall falls silent as the first assembly representative steps forward, his face becomes illuminated on the large screen, the tension is high....

Prime Minister Antoine Tariskany sat in his office, papers overflowing on his desk. News from the incident had of course been globally broadcast, and the newly elected official had no clue of what to believe. It was true that there had been conflict between Abattoir and Xile in the past, but recently the two nations had collaborated to create an almost equal trade balance between the countries. So did his country really have anything to worry about in the conflict?

Then there's Novvs Atlantica and Lamoni. Both sides seem to be pitted in a propaganda battle and it seems that the nations of Atlantian Ocean could only believe the country which seemed more credible. With his past experiences as Interregional Affairs Advisor, he had evidence that both sides could be ploying for any support they can gather.

So his only option at the moment seemed to be clear. He opened up his communicator, and promptly posted, one simple but quite coherent statement.

QUOTE

We remain neutral until further evidence provides Abattoir reason to intervene.

Florianopolis Dept. Of Foreign Affairs has issued a Caution advisory to any of its citizens residing or visiting NA to consider an immediate departure. In addition, travel advisories are posted cautioning against visits to involved border regions of Lamoni. Currently, diplomatic relations with both involved countries remain unaffected.

The Imperator strode through the Arcus Magnus, or Great Arch, of the Citadel. It was an impressive building. Nine floors resided above ground while the other ninety resided below. It wasn't the tallest structure in Nova Roma, or the deepest. However, it was the safest.

Reinforced concrete and layers of meter thick Titanium-A plating were constructed between each subterranean level after the first. If there were to be a direct nuclear strike on Nova Roma, the above ground portion of the Citadel might survive, it would be uninhabitable for a few thousand years, but it might survive. Unquestionably, however, sub-levels five through ninety-nine would survive, with the lowest levels not even experiencing the slightest shake from the blasts.

Air purification systems, a water treatment/recycling center, a small hydroponic farm, and three extremely large recreation rooms, along with the labs, computer rooms, and dormortories, made the Citadel quite the place to live during a nuclear holocaust.

The Imperator stopped at the executive chamber (now referred to as the throne room) and entered. He reclined into the gold throne, closed his eyes, and summoned up the daily news reports.

AORDO was at it again, determining what to do, who to support, etc. Various nations issued news reports either creating rumors or telling their own version of the truth to gain support for whoever the governments wanted to fight for and troops were called in from all over the world to return to their home region.

Several nations had declared neutrality, but one nation in particular had caught his eye. The nation of The Holy Saints, an interstellar nation with command of a vast array of starships. It would be a tough fight. The new Felix fighters were updated with an improved gauss rifle and life support systems to travel beyond Terra's atmosphere. Their rounds wouldn't be able to dent a capital class cruiser, but that wasn't what the Imperator was aiming for.

Generally, he was a man who liked to solve the problem not treat the symptoms; however, it would be impossible to destroy the carriers and cruisers of THS; therefore, he would have to aim a little lower. The dropships that would be reinforcing and resupplying THS forces would have a tough time getting through a Felixian blockade once the war started.

A message flashed onto his data pad, no doubt the one from Xile.

"20,000 uniforms? An interesting plan. Praetor, summon up the generals and see if we can't accomodate our Xilian brethren with some uniforms... 20,000 of them, to be exact."

"Yes, Imperator. Anything else?"

"Indeed. I'd like this message sent to Xile, send it the old fashioned way via the paper trail. Here it is."

The Praetor recieved the message in the envelope and scurried out. Imperator Tiberivs Siricvs Caesar sat up and began planning for battle.

In the Lamonian War Room, the Defense Council was running war games to determine the most probable course that a Novvs Atlantian invasion of the Free Republic would take.

The Defense Minister was worried about the resupply vessles of the THS forces. "If Novvs Atlantis were to come up with even an effective SAM belt in the right place, they could likely hit and at least damage the THS resupply ships," he said, the continued: "i'm sure that THS will have a counter for this, but one thing that military operations have shown me is to take nothing for granted.

President Stone thought about it for a second, and asked "What will we be able to do about it?"

After giving the matter his own second of though, the Defense Minister finally said, "We can REQUEST that our THS allies escort their supply ships, but beyond that... nothing reliable."

"Ooooookay..." President Stone muttered, "is there anything else that you people can think of?"

The NIA Director stood up from his position and stated, "Mr. President, we would like to send assasination squads into Novvs Atlantis with a new chemical that we have developed. It is called Succinylcholine; (OOC: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/succinyl.htm ) what we are really giving them is an overdose of the stuff, and it will kill the victim with a massive heart attack, and metabolizes nicely. The doctor doing the autopsy will have to know EXACTLY what to look for, and once the drug is metabolized by the corpse, no doctor will be able to find it. The drug will be fitted into a device not unlike a combo pen, but which will look like a real pen. It will even be able to write." The NIA Director held up an example of the device. "What you do when you want to use the device to kill someone is push in the button on the top of the 'cap' that looks like a colored piece of plastic pen cap top, unscrew the 'pen,' stick it into the victim, press the button again, then pull it out and hide it. The best place to stick someone is in the buttocks, and the fastest that our agents were able to accomplish this was three seconds. The target's death will be most painful, but if done correctly, the enemy will think that the target truly had a heart attack."

"Do it." That was all that the President said to that. After that, dicussion raged about potential assasination targets, and how to get the assasination squads into Novvs Atlantis.

*Thorskjold SpacePort, outside of Tromso.*
A bright flame erupted from below the craft as it began it's ascent, the flame seemingly too hot for the landing platform, which in reality was sagging under the pressure from the rocket boosters. The ship was one of 600 other landing ships of all different sorts, all headed for the II, III, VII, IX flotillas on station in space. Each landing ship was carrying 3,000 to 15,000 men, women, and an additional 100,000 tons of equipment and supplies followed on barges which met with the ships in space. The ships passed by the huge Gauss System Platforms keeping orbit over THS. If war came, THS interplanetary forces were ready.

*Briefing Center, deep inside NordeFjell Military Base, in a unknown and ill developed area of THS territory*
'Update me on the status of our armed forces, please.'
'At last count, we had over 300,000 Pre-Modern armored vehicles, 120,000 Modern Armored Vehicles, and 10,000 Future-Generation, not publicly disclosed, armored vehicles up on full alert. Our reserve equipment boosts Pre-Modern numbers by 200,000 and Modern numbers by 50,000.
Our Air fleet is up to strength at 30,000 Planetary Only craft and 19,000 Interplanetary Craft.
Our Navy is running with just a few ships in the yards. we have 7 armadas protecting the coasts as of this moment and 6 armadas abroad being recalled.
All in all we should have quite an extraordinary force from the get-go, and if we fully mobilize we will at least double our strength. '
'Good. Prepare Patrols and limit trade to 100% necessary products, those convoys being fully escorted by 1 carrier fleet each.'
'Yes sir.'
'Good. Start new Creative Support teams to get advertisements, etc, ready if war comes to the homeland.'
'Of course...'

President Lauir delicately picked up the data crystal arriving from Novvs Atlantis. He still didn't quite have the hang of how to access the data, but after a few minutes of trial and error was always successful.

"It looks like the uniforms will be arriving shortly. Get the troops prepared for deployment. I want them sent out in different directions before converging again in NA. If anyone gets nosy, they can assume that these were just NA deployments returning on the Emperor's orders."

An aide rushed out to make the preparations.

...The National Assembly hears the results one by one from the vote. All 543 regional assemblies have agree to allow volunteers to assist the Free Republic of Lamoni. As the news goes out across the country people begin to sign up as volunteers. The national assembly puts out a statement to the region.

QUOTE
The National Assembly of the Federation of Emagol would like to offer 100,000 volunteers to the Rree Republic of Lamoni. Unfportunatly we have little in the way of equipment so it is necessary to provide weapons for these volunteers. All other costs shall be covered by the Federation. Good luck in your fight

The volunteers prepare to move out as families and friends say their good byes, all in the hope that this conflict will end peacefully.

At the same time there are peaceful demonstrations by groups of anarchists who oppose the intervention but they are largly ignored as people continue to go about their business.

Posted by: Lamoni Jan 13 2005, 05:13 PM
An Aide walked into the War Room, and handed a message from Emagol to President Stone:

QUOTE
The National Assembly of the Federation of Emagol would like to offer 100,000 volunteers to the Free Republic of Lamoni. Unfortunatly we have little in the way of equipment so it is necessary to provide weapons for these volunteers. All other costs shall be covered by the Federation. Good luck in your fight.

After reading the short message, the President handed the message to the military head of the Lamoni Army, Colonel General Iosif Bondarenko. While passing the message over, he said, "I want you to see to the preparations involved in bringing the Emagol volunteers to the Free Republic, arming, and giving them whatever training that they might require, General."

Giving a smart though uneeded salute, the General simply said, "Yes Sir!"

Afterward, the President directed that a message be sent to the NA Imperator:

CODE
FROM: The Free Republic of Lamoni  To: Imperator, Novvs Atlantis

Whether the State can loose and bind
In Heaven as well as on Earth:
If it be wiser to kill mankind
Before or after the birth --
These are matters of high concern
 Where State-kept schoolmen are;
But Holy State (we have lived to learn)
 Endeth in Holy War.

Whether The People be led by The Lord,
Or lured by the loudest throat:
If it be quicker to die by the sword
Or cheaper to die by vote --
These are things we have dealt with once,
(And they will not rise from their grave)
For Holy People, however it runs,
 Endeth in Wholly Slave.

Whatsoever for any cause,
 Seeketh to take or give
Power beyond the Laws,
 Suffer it not to Live!
Holy State or Holy King --
 Or Holy People's will --
Have no truck with the senseless thing.
 Order the guns and kill!
Saying -- after -- me: --

Once there was The People -- Terror gave it birth;
Once there was The People and it made a Hell of Earth
Earth arose and crushed it.  Listen, O ye Slain!
Once there was The People -- it shall never be again!

- Rudyard Kipling, "Macdonough's Song"

This has been what I have been trying to tell you the whole time.

Posted by: Xile Jan 13 2005, 05:48 PM
(OOC: Rudyard Kipling is the man. Guess that makes the rest of us dance the limbo. Anyways, let me get this straight. An *anarchy* supporting a war that does *not* directly concern them and having 100,000 volunteers in a nation of 18 million people, when there is apparently no standing army to speak of BECAUSE it is an anarchy? Enough to make a head spin? Or maybe just enough to melt some ice.)

Troops being volunteered, actual deployments being perpared, and issuing of ultimatums. The Prime Minister stared at the telegraph on his desk from an officer of Novvs Atlantis. It seemed it was time for him to make a decision. With new territory up for grabs which would undoubtedly affect Abattoir's trading influence through the world; it was time for him to make a decision. Unfortunately for Lamoni and his allies, a permanent addition to the Societas of Xile and NA was too tantalizing to resist.

Antoine Tariskany, only two months after his election into office, was about to make the biggest foreign relation decision since the assassination of Prime Minister Lavinsky.

"Send a reply to the Imperator, tell him we will give him full support in any action taken against Lamoni and/or his allies." Antoine directed toward an aide.

She hurried out of the room to draft the message and get it sent immediately. The silence seemed to echo throughout the room, and it was as if you could hear the Prime Minister thinking. Eternity seemed to spout from those few remaining moments of peace.

He looked at his War Department appointee and stated, "Get the troops ready."

Posted by: Ainorpisp Jan 13 2005, 08:30 PM
And now, NANN brings you this special report from President Kain, broadcast from an undisclosed location...

"Good evening, my fellow Ainorpispians, and the rest of the Atlantian Oceania region. We have remained silent for far too long, but this was due to an unforseen event. During our silence, the High Council voted to seperate Ainorpisp into two nations. Therefore, we have re-emerged as those two nations - The Democratic States of West Ainorpisp, and our sister nation, the Confederacy of East Ainorpisp. Former Councilor Omar Longbottom is now the acting President of the CEA, and he will broadcast a statement soon."

"As President of DSWA, I am deeply troubled to see a possible war mounting between Novvs Atlantis and our traditional allies the Free Republic of Lamoni. In light of the seriousness of this situation, the Democratic States hereby is calling up all reservists and available troops of our share of the Ainorpispian armed forces. We offer our support to the Free Republic should a pre-emptive war be initiated by Novvs Atlantis. However, we take into consideration the accusations made of Lamoni's supposed supplying of PsiPronian weapons to the Antixilean Fatwah as well. It is important that we take this accusation seriously."

"Therefore, we have dispatched an inspection force to the Free Republic headed by Colonel Myrna Thiel, who first came across reports of PsiPronian weapons in former Krytenia. We urge both sides in this conflict to wait for their inspections of Lamonian stockpiles before attacking. A pre-emptive strike by Novvs Atlantis would recieve both our condemnation and force us to side with Lamoni in any armed conflict. We are ready to send an initial expeditionary force of 50,000 troops to aide Lamoni in this event."

"That is all for now, and may the blessings of the Golden Path be with you all."

A purple light winked at the Imperator, a message.

"What have we here? A poem?"

The Imperator read through it, laughed, and deleted it from his data pad. On second thought, he went through the system drive and deleted all traces of it. He didn't want to take any chances of getting a virus.

He sighed and turned to his friend,

"Do you think we can win this?"

"What do you mean?" Marivs was startled, he was daydreaming of harvesting his grape crop and selling it for a huge profit. The season was a good one, sparse rain had made the grapes this year very, very pure. They would sell for quite a bit.

"Lamoni's economy is in shambles, yes, but they have four times our number. For every man we send out they have four breathing down his neck. Not to mention their interstellar allies, THS. Are they even in this region anymore? I thought they packed up and left. But now it seems they have a full fledged military base in the area."

"Caesar... Of course...."

"Seriously now, our space program is nothing but a few orbital weapons platforms and our Lucifer system, the Felix fighters are hardly space-faring craft."

"But Caesar..."

"Our troops, while extremely experienced and well trained will be no match for the orbital bombardments of THS. Couple that with the huge forces of Lamoni and we are done for."

"Caesar, will you shut the hell up and let me speak?"

"Fine, but it won't win us the war."

"On the contrary. We have recieved word from Abattoir."

"Wonderful, another enemy to fight. I might as well kill myself."

"No, no, no! They have accepted our offer. Full military support against Lamoni and any of her allies. The Nojikan delegate has sent nothing, but they are notoriously slow for deciding. Give them time and you shall soon see. Many of the AO nations are remaining neutral. Preferring to stand aside and either watch or just carry on with their lives. Surely that is better than fighting us? Besides if we win, think of what we can do to the Lamonians!"

Siricvs smiled. He remembered the sound of the Tachbian screams and their abrupt end as the Lucifer system crushed their cities to dust. He chuckled. How he would love to hear that sound again.

"You're right. Send word to our allies: Don't let up on military production, if anything increase military alert levels. Domestically? I want to run the Lucifer simulations, make sure anti-missile platforms are in order and try to get those Marketing goons to get some patriotic commercials out, and get Maximvs in here."

"Yes, Caesar." The Consvl rushed out of the throne room and into the briefing chamber, he stopped in front of somebody and pointed towards the throne room.

A man dressed in a formal Novvs Atlantian military uniform entered the Imperator's line of sight.

"Ahh... Maximvs... How is the Aerial Legion?"

"At 130% maximum efficiency. The Felix fighters have been properly tested and are ready for operations."

"Scramble them. I want them on training runs for every hour of the day. If anything from space, be it an alien, asteroid, or a THS scumbag, enters our or any of our allies' airspace, I want it shot down."

"Of course Caesar. Anything else?"

"On your way out, tell the Admiral I'd like a word with him."

On Radio Lamoni:

The nation of West Ainorpisp has decided to send inspectors to inspect our stockpiles of Psipronian weapons. Should they find nothing amiss, and we are sure that they will not; they will also oversee the meltdown of the now obsolete Psipronian weapons.

Lamonian War Room: "What would happen if Abbatoir were to join in with NA and Xile?," President Stone asked the room. Air Force General Smith handled that answer, "It would make a VERY bloody fight. Even with the promised troops from West Ainorpisp, FMJphoenix, Emagol, and THS. We might be able to win that, though. Especially if we make certain that Novvs Atlantis and their allies take the first shot. That way, we can claim to be fighting a defensive war against their aggression. We should contact Nojika as well, if only to keep them neutral. I would suggest contacting The Lowland Clans as well, because it would keep our enemies on their toes."

With that decision made, the President then asked Colonel General Bondarenko about the status of the training of the volunteers from Emagol. Bondarenko cleared his throat, and replied, "They are doing well for civilians. We're giving them older Lamoni equipment; tracked tanks, old Assault Rifles (LAR-20), and all that. They will be ready when the war starts."

"Very good, General.," President Stone said. "I think that finding accomodations for the Ainorpisp inspection group, AND their troops should be an easy thing for you to accomplish as well?"

"Yes sir," was the reply, "We can do that."

[OOC: this is about as short as an RP could get, I need time to read up before I do a more deatiled RP if you don't mind, Lamoni.]

"President Yanois!"

"Yes, General?"

"We've received a message from the Lamoni government, they're asking for assistance in the Novvs Atlantis/Xile-Lamoni conflict. They're requesting we send military assistance."

With that, Yanois stood up. A former military General himself, he fought for a liberisation movement when Chacor was still under Liverpool England control. He was not one to mess around with, as people who knew him well would tell you.

"Very well, General. Mobilise 1400 troops and 30 tanks. They move out at 1400 hours."

Out of Character: Sorry for the delayed response. Just typed this up, so excuse any grammatical or otherwise spelling errors.

The room was silent. Around the table sat the Emperor's entire council. On either side of Emperor Brakiss stood Grand Vizier Baskar and a hologram image of Lord Kahal who was on his naval flagship, the Illuminator. Generals and Grand Moffs, some holograms and some in person sat around the table. And inbeded into the center of the table was a holgram map of Atlantian Oceania.

The Emperor looked up, "Baskar; send a priority transmission to our neighbors Novvs Atlantis. Be sure it's secure and sent in a shared code. Make them aware that Nojika will side with them in their war. Send a second insecure message to Lamoni ensuring their leaders that Nojika will remain neutral throughout this war. Our aid to Novvs Atlantis will come to be a surprise to the enemy lines, which will surely gain our allies and ourselves an advantage."

Grand Vizier Baskar wrote down a few notes on his datapad and sent them to an assistant elsewhere in the Imperial Palace, "Yes, my lord. It will be done."

Turning his attention to Lord Kahal, "Prepare all military units. Move the Command and First fleets into positions that will make our efforts minimal to begin an attack, if neccasary. Put the Rozier Defence fleet on full alert, but they shall not move from their current positions. We must retain the element of surprise."

"As you wish, my lord."

With that, the Emperor stood up. Everyone, including those not physically present stood and bowed. And in an instant, two of the twelve Royal Gaurds in the room were by the Emperor's side. As he walked out of the room, those that remained sat down and began to discuss possible strategies.

OOC: Sorry for not rping my re-introduction into the region but eh, im way too lazy for that.
IC:
There was a lurching noise throughout the hull as the ship entered the Earth's gravity well, and the ship began entering station in orbit above THS. All weapons systems on-board were warmed up and ready for any eventuality. The ship's shielding was at 100% and it could deflect most anything with minimal effect up to heavy, consistent shelling or extremely powerful projectiles or other weapons systems. Their shielding was somewhat impervious to Ion weapons, but not completely; if you broke the shield and fired at the ship directly the fast re-charging shield would not come into service again anytime soon. Even if one did break the shield, one would have a tough time of breaking the 7 metere thick alloy armor around normal decks and then the 10 metere thick alloy around essential decks; the bridge, the engine compartments, the main weapons caches, the power routers, etc. This was one of the soon ageing heavy battle-ships in the fleet, but so far only 2 new generation battle-ships had been produced, and they were only to be sent here if, and only if, the conflict got too hot. They each could carry over 250,000 men and 20,000,000 tons of equipment. That fairly doubled the current ship-of-the-line battle-ships capacities, although there were 16 of those older models in comission. If worse came to worse, the THS population of Earth would be evacuated. There was enough ships for that. The problem was protecting the evacuees. The weapons systems could evenly and accurately devestate any groundside installation, and the Gauss Cannons had been proven scientifically and physically to penetrate over 60 metres of pure Grade A Titanium, laterally. So far the government hadnt tried shooting from space. Each ball also has an explosive core that can go off at certain depths if needed. This so far has not been tested... each carried a 140 megaton nuke.

OOC: just a little i wanted to share bout my fleet... rather the pride of it.

OOC: So basically what I'm looking at are ships that are nearly impervious to our weapons and could easily destroy even the lowest levels of the Citadel (what other purpose would it serve to include the nuclear depth charge and super-duper Gauss Cannons?)

Not to metion your return to the region... Coincidentally at the time of a war. I'd really like to keep this modern to post-modern tech.

I generally don't consider myself future tech because all of my "advanced" technologies are relatively easy to counter or have no real variation from their "lesser" counterparts. The Lucifer system can be taken down from a missile salvo just as easily as your everyday commerical satellite can. Naval gauss rifles are just as damaging as their explosive shell comrades. Aerial gauss rifles are just as destructive as missiles, only they don't track (making up for it by reaching the target at extremely high velocities.). Finally, land based gauss rifles are too large to be carried by a soldier so you will only find them on tanks

I don't mind if you fight against me, but when you have a super-planet destroyer fleet orbiting the planet, that's where I draw the line. If you really want to continue with your space crusiers, than go ahead, but you probably won't find anyone to fight.

"General Kerrigan!"

"Yes Commander!"

"I have orders here that have been given to me from the Presidents Office. You are to select 5 full wings from your command to prepare for combat. We have been requested from Lamoni to join them in the strugle against Novvs Atlantis. I have told him I will send in a portion of our Air Force to help them."

"5 full wings?? Thats 4 squadrons in each wing, so 20 squadrons of 12 fighters... 240 air fighters?"

"Yes General. In this sealed document, you will find orders that allow you to choose the 5 wings at your discretions. You will have 4 hours to choose. I need your completed report of what fighter wings you will take with you, including your own of course. Once you are ready with your selections, make sure they are ready to leave. You will ship out at 0500 hours, understood?"

"Yes sir!"

no, no, no. its all quite easy to destroy. certain areas are incredebly weak. BUT blueprint-wise, etc, they are 'perfect'.
they havent been tested in battle yet. the if you have anything that can shoot into space at relatively high velocity(say, a laser) my ships would die quite quickly.
then again, ive gotten almost no sleep lately and ive had an apple and a bit of bread each one of these past few days. letting my imagination run, as per usual. how bout i keep it to a small fleet of corvette size ships and small fighters alongside a very strong ground force?

IC: An aide walked over to the Foreign Minister and handed him a note. After reading it, he walked over to where President Stone was, and handed it to him, saying "Mr. President, this is a message from Nojika telling us that they are going to stay neutral in the coming war. However, I don't believe them. For one thing, this message was not sent under any kind of code. For that kind of message to be taken seriously, it would be encoded. Secondly, it... just doesn't feel right."

President Stone sighed, and said "So, you're telling me that we have ANOTHER enemy?" The response came quickly, "Yes Mr. President, we seem to have another enemy." Now rubbing his forehead and anticipating what was sure to be worse than a migrane headache, he stated, "This has gone out of all proportion for a randomly chosen invasion. Alert our out of region allies that we might need their help in this matter." The Foreign Minister simply said, "Yes, Mr. President."

"Sir," came the voice of the defense minister. "The five air wings from FMJphoenix will be arriving presently, and Chacor will be sending 1,400 troops and 30 tanks." "Very well, find them accomadations.," the President replied. "Yes sir!," was the response.

I wonder how far that Novvs Atlantis is willing to push this?," President Stone thought.

Consvl Marivs strode into the throne room, he saluted the flag and the Imperator and addressed him,

"Caesar, we have intercepted several broadband transmissions out of Lamoni to nations outside of AO."

The Imperator stopped reading and looked up,

"Interesting, no doubt spurred on by Nojika's announcement of neutrality. They supsect Nojika is lying and so have shat their pants and are now crying for help. Typical Lamoni cowardice."

"Indeed. Atlantian Outcasts could be a valuable addition to our alliance, they could destroy THS' fleet above Terra and help us bombard Lamoni. Shall I send them a transmission?"

"No. Only pathetic Lamoni scum would resort to out of region assistance. We will not stoop to their level. THS has pulled its carrier group out of the system anyway, leaving nothing but a few corvettes to command the battle. They are over-confident in their belief that they will destroy us. Instead, let us coordinate our invasion of Lamoni with our allies before Lamoni's out of region allies can respond."

Taking a neutral stance in a war isn't something a nation would keep private, so why would not sending it encoded be a big deal? Bah, you screwed that one up good...

Without a doubt, THS ground forces were ready. The Elite Sniper Battalions attached to each division were being cleared to enter into Lamoni territory to stay behind enemy lines if the attack came. They would coordinate orbital bombardment and, if NA was pushed back, eventual artillery strikes and local resistance. They were waiting for this fight their entire lives, battle-scarred from former wars, on former worlds. But to them, those were only petty squabbles in comparision to the magnitude of this potential fight. each squad contained 15 snipers and related personell.*15 total* Multiply that by 300 hundred and you had a formidable, self sustaining, behind the lines, military force that could wreak havoc. They just had to rely on their skills to survive. They would set up in mountanous, hilly, forested areas on the border, and sometimes in towns, where they could set up an underground system in the nearby hills. They just hoped they would live through it all.

Soon enough, after the sniper teams had been sent in, whole divisions came in under the best cover that could be had; bad weather, attempts at cloaking, etc, but this would all be futile to cover their entry into Lamonian territory.

On Radio Lamoni:

All Lamonian citizens are advised to leave the nations of Novvs Atlantis, Xile, Nojika, and Abattoir as soon as possible. The Lamonian ambassador to Novvs Atlantis has been recalled, and the Ainorpispan inspections will begin shortly.

Col. Myrna Thiel, veteran of the War of Liberation, former representative of Ainorpisp to the Regional Council, was now acting weapons inspector of the DSWA in Lamoni. She'd landed in Lamoni's capital of Nephi not six hours ago, and had had to wait for her armed escort to set everything up, from vehicles to the laptops with databases that contained lists of the serial numbers of each PsiPronian weapon captured back during the WoL. Finally they set out, four Army humvees painted the Ainorpispian camoflauge scheme and sporting the flag of the Democratic States of West Ainorpisp. Along for the ride was also the ambassador to Lamoni, retired Capt. Hedwig Rammstein, a former Ainorpispian Navy carrier commander. As the small caravan arrived at the first military stockpile, Thiel sighed before stepping out of the vehicle and proceeding inside, even ignoring the salutes from the Lamoni military guards. This was going to be a long day.

**********

Special Broadcast from NANN in East Ainorpisp

"Thank you and good evening. This announcement is being braodcast not only to the people of the Confederacy of East Ainorpisp and the Democratic States of West Ainorpisp, but to the whole of our region. On the eve of an all-out regional war, we are doubtful that this will make a difference in the events to come, but feel it is neccesary for our voice to be heard," began Omar Longbottom, the President of the Confederacy of East Ainorpisp.

"At this moment, as the armed forces of Novvs Atlantis and its allies prepare for action against those of Lamoni and its allies, West Ainorpispian weapons inspectors are searching Lamoni for any missing PsiPronian weaponry. Their enemies have charged that they gave these weapons to insurgent fighters in ex-Krytenia, and the inspectors are now on the case to determine whether these accusations bear any merit. Our sister nation, DSWA has pledged military support to Lamoni if she is attacked. However, it is my duty as President of East Ainorpisp to announce to the region tonight that my nation intends to remain neutral no matter what happens. This is not our fight, and we will stay out of it."

"We condemn any decision to proceed with an invasion should all PsiPronian weapons be accounted for. Any arbitrary action such as that would be insanity and prove the uncivility of the perpetrators. There is no need to threaten the sovereignty of a nation for no reason, and this invasion would be barbarity the likes of which have not been seen since the middle ages. I and the people of the Confederacy sincerely hope that leaders on both sides of the aisles can resolve their differences through diplomacy instead of the barrels of guns."

************

A few hours later, Col. Thiel had conlcuded the search of the second facility where PsiPronian weapons were kept, and had dispatched a team to the other location at which the weapons might be found. So far, everything was accounted for, though the third stockpile might prove otherwise. The claims of Lamoni aide to the insurgents seemed to be collapsing quite readily.

Leaning up against a wall, smoking a cigar, she wondered how long this was going to take. Then, a tech sergeant from the Marines came up to her, saluted, and motioned to the laptop he held. Glancing at the screen, Thiel couldn't tell what the fuss was about, and gave the sergeant a look that conveyed it.

"We've checked the serial numbers from the PsiPronian weapons against the list of every known weapon in the two facilities we've inspected, just to make sure we didn't miss anything. Thing is, we didn't. None of these serial numbers match the ones from the insurgent's weapons, ma'am," he explained, then pressed some button and made a second list appear on the screen, "These, however, are the serial numbers of weapons captured by the former nation of Doitsu during the WoL."

"And?" Thiel demanded, wanting to get through the details down to the point of the explanation.

"Ma'am, so far all the insurgent's weapons are matching up with weapons captured by Doitsu. It's highly unlikely that Lamoni was involved," the marine concluded, looking right into Thiel's eyes.

"Keep checking the list for every one of the weapons we found in Krytenia," Thiel ordered, then was interrupted by the ringing of her government-issue cellular phone, "Thiel. What is it?" she listened to the person on the other end for a long moment, occasionally nodding and saying 'yeah', then smirked, "All right, that's what we needed to know... odd, but still what we needed. Good work, soldier. Thiel out."

Looking to her aide, who'd come along on this trip as well, she announced, "Call for a press conference, tell them to make sure it's broadcast on international frequencies. We've come to a conclusion, and it's time AO heard it once and for all."

Posted by: Nova Roma Jan 17 2005, 05:39 PM
"Prepare the B2's."

"Imperator?"

"The weapons inspectors are currently in Lamoni. All of AO is hinging on the release of data by the inspectors. An attack now will be to our advantage. Attempt to scramble communication out of Lamoni. I would prefer to keep THS out of this as long as possible.

Have the B2's target the industrial sectors of Lamoni. Those are first priority. Second priority will be military installations. Third priority will be government buildings.

Our pilots are skilled but I want to meet them tonight before they leave. Chances are, they won't be coming back."

"And the Navy?"

"High Alert status. As soon as the B2's drop their payloads I want our ships to open fire on any and all coastal bases and shipyards. Enemy ships are to be left to the Pluto and Styx submarine groups.

Activate the Jupiter defense grid. I doubt Lamoni would be stupid enough to detonate nuclear weapons on their neighbors, but let's be safe anyway.

How's Lucifer?"

"We've been unable to stop its orbital decay... It may burn up before we can use it."

"Power it up."

"So," the Foreign Minister said to President Stone, "you think that Novvs Atlantis and his allies fell for the 'out-of-region' bait?" Looking the Foreign Minister in the eye, President Stone gave an affirmative grunt.

Then thinking that he wanted to say something, he replied, "Building all of our military bases underground will likely prove to be a great idea. If I know the Novvs Atlantian leadership, they'll try to hit us hard. Preferably BEFORE the inspectors prove to everyone that we didn't give weapons to the Fatwah. I've given them access to laser communications with one of our satelites that will enable them to broadcast their findings to the region at large. It should be able to make it through any real jamming, even if they have agents in our communications network, which I personally tend to doubt. I also don't think that they even suspect that we have LADAR. It'll be fun to see if they try to sneak in stealth planes or something like that."

While he was saying this, he DIDN'T tell the Foreign Minister that the same trick could be used to communicate with Lamoni's allies, and that all of the newer Lamonian satellites had this capability. After all, it would be hard for Novvs Atlantis to jam the communications networks of THAT many nations. Besides, the allies (THS especially) had been watching the conflict with their own means, as well as what was given them by Lamonian Intelligence.

Looking over at the Air Force General in the room, he told him to send out the Recon UAV's (Unmanned Arieal Vehicles). This would enable them to tell the instant that Novvs Atlantian forces crossed the border. This was the second to last thing to do. The Navy had made it's deployments, as had the Army, as well as the Air Force and Marines. A lot of the allied forces had already arrived, and those that had were on alert as well.

President Stone then looked over at the Colonel General Bondarenko and ordered him to activate the Civil Gaurd (in the Lamonian military, the Civil Gaurd is like the RL American National Gaurd, while the reserves are the ones that have been 'called to the colors.'), and put the agreed upon reserves on alert. Then he told the General to shift the military status to DEFCON 1 (total war) as soon as enemy forces had started their attack. When the Air Force General came back into the room, the President instructed him to launch an ASAT at the Lucifer satellite, but keep it some distance from the satellite until the attack came.

President Stone knew that the enemy would have absolutely no clue what the allied battle plan was, and that they would be very suprised when their war machines stopped working.

"Pilots... Tonight, you are spearheading the attack on Lamoni. It will be a tough ride, and I won't lie to you. Many of you won't be coming home. The anti-air fire will be minimal, last satellite scan showed no AA guns in the area. However, we suspect the Lamonians to have other tricks up their sleeves.

We're sending you in after the F-117s. They're going to try and take these buildings out here,"

The Imperator pointed to a holographic chart of Nephi. His fingers drifted from one large circular building to another.

"These are where the energy readings were the highest. Most likely LADAR facilities. We doubt Lamoni would consolidate all of their LADAR exclusively in those locations but the destruction of those facilities should be very helpful.

After the strike on Nephi you are to attempt to return to base. You'll refuel, re-arm, and take off again. This time, your target is the city of Spraat, Fmjphoenix's largest economic city. A blow here will cripple their economy. Defenses should be minimal.

One last thing, if any of you wish to step out of this now, I am giving you Imperial pardon to do so,"

The pilots remained still.

"Very well, may the goddess Fortvna guide you to victory."

As the Imperator left the hangar, the pilots gave a grisp salute and started to suit up for their final flight.

Of course, that wasn't the only group of pilots the Imperator had to address. There remained still pilots that were going to be bombing Moroni, Katakan, Kazatlan, Karakan, and Komono, as well as the F-117 pilots that would be clearing the way for them...

... The F-117's roared to life and took off from the airfield into the night sky towards Lamoni, six for each main city. They crossed the Adriant Sea in no time and no sooner than they did contacts were picked up on radar.

"This is Alpha leader to Beta wing, I've got multiple contacts on my six, you copy?Over."

"Copy that Alpha leader, proceeding to shake 'em. Over."

Two of the fighters dived while two more did a complicated double roll, the last two burst into flames as they were struck by enemy missiles.

"-explicitive removed-, we've lost Delta wing. Over."

"Keep it steady, we've got to take out those LADAR facilities. Over."

The fighters let loose chaff and kicked in their afterburners. As they reached the outskirts of Nephi the enemy fighters broke off.

"What in the name of the gods..."

Two more F-117's fell from the sky, no smoke, fire, or damage. Only Alpha Wing remained and it shot towards its targets.

It would only be able to take out two of the buildings but two was better than none. The first fighter launched its rocket salvo at the building and high-tailed it back to base, assuming the explosion to be enough proof that the building was destroyed. The second fighter lingered behind, actually confirming the rocket hits, then it sped off.

The B2 bombers shot across the sky, though slightly slower than their fighter counterparts. They too broke off into formation as they approached the different cities. As the I squadron reached Nephi airspace a trio of fighters zoomed underneath, obviously unaware of the bombers due to lack of information streaming from the LADAR centers.

"That was close."

"You betcha, I can't wait to tell the boys at..."

The pilot's words were cut short as he and two other bombers lost communication and smashed into the ground, short circuited by the Lamonian EMP.

"That leaves three of us boys. Let's give these bastards a little treat from the Imperator."

The bombers opened their payload bay doors and a stream of bombs descended upon Nephi's industrial sector. At the same time Novvs Atlantian battleships and crusiers began opening fire on targeted coastal bases and shipyards.

... Back in NA the Imperator was just getting word of the mission's outcome.

"Reports are pretty much the same for all wings. Most of the fighters were lost, but the bombers did significant damage. Not the maximum intended amount, but it will definitely leave the enemy hurting. Our naval fleets have just begun opening fire, several Lamonian ships have responded, but as of yet, we have no organized counter attack. That will change shortly as soon as word of the attack reaches Lamonian high command. Legions are on standby and awaiting your orders."

"Excellent. Analysis of Lucifer?"

"Well... We'll lose her if we don't fire, and we'll lose her if we do."

"Clarify."

"If we don't fire, she'll burn up in several days. If we do fire, the burst will alter the orbit of the satellite just enough so that its rate of decay increases to the point that we lose it within a few hours. Personally, I say we use it on a THS base."

"Interesting. Very well, power it up and target the largest THS command base."

"Yes, Imperator."

Codes were transmitted to the Lucifer system and shortly thereafter it began its power-up. The Jupiter defense grid scanned the vast vacuum for any anti-satellite missiles, none had been launched.

Lucifer shook and shot a white hot beam towards AO, the shaking was violent. Too violent. The satellite burst into flames and the beam dissipated before it could reach maximum intensity. The debris was pulled into the atmosphere and burnt up.

"Lucifer has been destroyed, Caesar."

"Very well, ready up the defensive gauss rifles. Prepare the legions for assault on Lamoni and continue the air strike against her allies."

The Imperator left the control room and departed for his chambers, the nine Praetorians escorting him stopped at his door.

"Ave, Praetorians. You serve me well."

With that the Imperator retired for the evening and awaited the drums of war.

"Ma'am, something big's happening!" DSWA Minister of Defense Andrei Fokker blurted as he hurried into her office, reports in one of his hands, "Communications are somewhat scrambled, but from what NIA can gather, Novvs Atlantis has begun actions against Lamoni."

"Right... so it's come to war.. a stupid, random war that only people with nothing better to do would start," President Kain groaned, having wished that Novvs Atlantis would come to its senses and call off its attack dogs, "Very well - these are my orders: 1) The military is to be increased to full alert, all branches. 2) The expiditionary force we're sending to Lamoni will be increased to 100,000 troops, including an armored unit and a wing of our F-35 interceptors. 3) A carrier attack force will be sent to aide our allies - make it the ANS Enterprise. We can't stand idly by while a friend is attacked arbitrarily."

"Yes ma'am, I'll send the message out to the military," Fokker nodded, then asked, "What of the remaining fighter wings?"

"Have them on 24-hour patrol of our skies - if any aircraft enters our skies without direct authorization from me, it is to be shot down," Kain responded, knowing that she had to cover all the bases. Even sending 100,000 troops to Lamoni, there was still a very large force - the majority of the nation's military - still stationed at home, in underground bases not unlike Lamoni's. The DSWA's compulsory military service laws made sure they would always have a force ready to defend the Motherland. Their neighbors in the Confederacy were no different - it was almost ingrained in the Ainorpispian psyche that in times of war, someone always had a dagger poised to strike them. Even if the enemies were on the complete oppoiste side of the region, the Ainorpispians never sent the majority of their armed forces abroad.

As an afterthought, she added, "Tell NIA to keep an eye on all international communcation, especially in this part of the region. We may have to reconsider our options depending on it."
*****

Col. Myrna Thiel had attempted to make the announcement to AO, but the NA bombing postponed it for a long moment. Finally, using a combonation of the proffered Lamoni sattelites and the DSWA's own broadcast sattelites from NANN, her announcement went on the air region-wide.

"Attention all of you out there who are watching this: I am Colonel Myrna Thiel, Army of the Democratic States of West Ainorpisp and chief weapons inspector in Lamoni. Today, we concluded our inspections of Lamoni's stockpiles of PsiPronian weapons. All weapons captured during the War of Liberation were accounted for, and there is absolutely no evidence that Lamoni ever provided the AntiXilean Fatwah with such or any weapons. The reasons given for a war on Lamoni are outright lies in the face of this unshakeable evidence. Thank you."

*****

The ANS Enterprise, still safely docked in DSWA waters, was an odd sight for a particular reason - the crew was lined up on the deck, dressed in combat uniforms. Saida Kaminski, the ship's commander, strode past them and returned salutes as the band played 'Anchors Aweigh'. Once the song ended, she stopped at the center of the ship and took a deep breath.

"Sailors, this is it - we are going to war. Our old friend is in danger, and we're going to answer the call to aide them. Now Lamoni's main enemy - Novvs Atlantis - is a fierce foe with a huge military. They seem to liken themselves to empires of old - you know the type, with Legions, Imperators, using 'v' instead of 'u', and what-have-you. I won't lie, this will be a bloody war, and many on both sides will go home only in wooden boxes if at all. But never forget who you are, either," Kaminski spoke fervently, "You are the descendants of civilizations that toppled such empires - your ancestors were Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Gauls, Teutons, Picts, Huns, Sarmatians, and other peoples called barbarians by history. Others amongst you are from cultures where the desire for Empire was conquered by the will of the people. Whatever your background, we have evolved into a free and democratic society! Democracy and freedom, sailors, that is what we go to defend, in the face of Empire-builders. Fight with all your heart and might, and remember the batte-cry of the War of Liberation: Victory or Death!"

With that, the assembled crew cheered at the top of their lungs, "VICTORY OR DEATH!! VICTORY OR DEATH!! VICTORY OR DEATH!!" And at the nod of the commander, went off to their battle stations as the Enterprise prepared to set sail accompanied by a naval task force.

"Ah holy hell."

The excited utterance from President Lauir suprised his aides.

"Scramble fighters, deploy the prepared troops. Get our ships in position, and activate the missle array. Xilean troops will be under the orders of NA command until we establish an effective base of command. That will be all."

Picking up roasted corpses at the edge of ground zero, THS clean up personell vomited left and right. an estimated 600,000 men had been vaporized, and according to energy readings that wasnt the full force Lucifer could have brought to bear. One of the 5 Commandants had been vaporized with the men. To say the least it was disastrous, but it was now, this quiet time, that was the lull before the storm that played on the command's nerves. On the front line it must be worse. According to intel, several LADAR instilations had been taken out, and that was never a good thing. The enemy fleet had begun operations; at least 4 of THS' attack submarines were MIA.

Now was the time for action. Thousands of engines roared to life accross THS protected areas and a steady drone of marching reverbrated through the forests. 1,400 engines heated up just 2 km behind the clean up teams and 1,400 heavy search and destroy aircraft roared to life, on their last missions, ready to die for the Throne. Before battle manouvres commenced, each and every man knelt and thanked their lord for this opportunity.

(OOC: just so ya guys know, my elite and spec ops are near suicidal if confronted. If the situation is for them, they are methodical and good troops... if the situation turns on them they'll open up and every explosive they can bring to bear is brought to bear, usually killing them as well. think Japan WW2.)

"Imperator, word has arrived from Xile, we have full command of their troops until they can establish a command post in the area."

"Station them throughout the Etruria region. Save them for Xile, we won't really need them for now."

"Of course Caesar."

Praetor Flaminius entered several commands into the battle map and returned to his desk.

QUOTE (Ainorpisp @ Jan 18 2005, 03:16 AM)
"...A carrier attack force will be sent to aide our allies - make it the ANS Enterprise..."

"Oh, no you don't," Admiral Clarke smiled to himself as he had the latest Sat. photos of Ainorpispian naval movements handed to him, "looks like we got some manouevres of our own to do."

Without delay he tapped a button on his desk.

"Captain? Clarke here. Indris is a go, proceed as planned."

<Aye, Sir.>

Yanosh Clarke sat back in his chair. The pride of the Starblaydi Navy, the Indris Navy Battlegroup, would now be setting sail and heading west, around South Osettia, at best possible speed. Headed by the Doujin-built Infusion-Class Trimaran Aircraft Carrier Tiberius, it was the most formidable weapon in the Navy's somewhat-oversized fleet.

Along with the Task Force already patrolling outside former-Krytenia, this would block both the direct and scenic routes to the conflict ground in the south-west of the region. Combined with the fact that Starblaydi-controlled airspace and territory was in the most-obvious path for any planes, not much of Ainorpisp's machinery would be making it to Lamoni any time soon without barging past one of the more-impressive navies in the Region. After all, the last thing this situation needed was an escalation. Right?

"Lieutenant," Clarke had pressed another button, "get me... oh, i dunno, Andrei Fokker on the dog-and-bone, A.S.A.P. Let's see if we can calm things down, some."

Posted by: Ainorpisp Jan 18 2005, 09:58 PM
"Sir, we have a major problem here," undersecretary of the Ainorpispian Navy Junior Admiral Ilko Sterrence announced, entering the office of Andrei Fokker with a scowl on his face, "The Starblaydi navy is moving into positions that will undoubtedly block our paths to Lamoni. Why they're doing this I'm not certain, but unless we're willing to risk war with them, we won't be able to get through to our allies."

"That's horrendous... we need to get there in time to back up Lamoni," Fokker groaned, "The last thing we need right now is this deterrance..."

*Minister Fokker, Admiral Clarke of the Starblaydi navy is on the secure line,* Fokker's secretery informed him over the intercom.

"Thank you, I'll take it from here," Fokker responded, then picked up his end of the line and announced, "This is Fokker. Listen, you'd better have a damn good reason for getting in our way here. Our long-time ally has been assaulted for absolutely no reason, and we have promised to keep our pledge of alliance to them. Novvs Atlantis and its allies are perpetrating an illegal war for no reason whatsoever, and someone has to do something about it. Now either AORDO does something or we plan to on our own, but this war must be stopped before both sides slaughter each other."

Posted by: Holy Saints Jan 19 2005, 06:55 PM
OOC: its sorta ironic that AORDO has completely failed at completing its goals of regional unification and protection... with its own members fighting each other.

Polar Command in the northern ice mass of Atlantian Oceania answered the red phone and recieved their orders. Jets were scrambled around the command to engage any enemy aircraft, and the anti-aircraft guns were activated.

A heavily dressed officer inserted a key into the tracking screen mounted on the wall. Two others inserted keys elsewhere in the machine. The last man in the command center inserted his key and opened the case covering the keyboard and quickly entered in a few codes.

The screen before him came to life, and he keyed in a few more entries, and immediately saw a myriad of white specks flying across the grid.

Missles screamed as they came out of the water, and raced quickly to the western half of Lamoni, less guarded because of its farther proximity from Novus Atlantis. Large explosions would be rocking power plants, oil refineries, sewer works and television broadcast stations throughout the west.

President Lauir recieved word and smirked. "Let's see how those bastards like seeing what a war is really about. Is our command prepared yet?"

"Almost Mr. President. You will be notified immediately when it is ready."

Posted by: Starblaydia Jan 19 2005, 07:36 PM
(OOC: THS, that's like saying NATO would have failed in its task if France went to war with Germany. Lamoni and NA seem perfectly able to defend themselves)

"Now, look here, Fokker, helping one side to slaughter another does not appear, to me at least, to be an effective way of stopping a war. An escalation in this Region is not what we need, and AORDO is not here to step in, kick some pre-defined booty and step out again."

Clarke went on to make it clear that the Indris Battlegroup would not be moving any time soon, and that the Starblaydi Navy would not suffer any agressive actions taken against it.

"The last thing we need here is for another fully-armed nation to step into the conflict that is already starting. There's nothing we can do to stop a war, but we sure can prevent it from going on longer than necessary."

With notification that Xile's offshore missiles had been fired, it was time for Prime Minister Tariskany to act.

"Alright, prepare flights for a secondary run of the Novvs Atlantica targets, and hit whatever their pilots failed to target. I'm sure we'll take heavy losses, but the time to act is now." he commanded.

The Admiral left the room to order the strike, and Antoine began his usual pondering over the matters at hand. It was true that so far almost all the action taken had been against Lamoni targets. There had been a few air raids on some his allies major economic areas, but merely as an attempt to slow down their actions.

However, to inflict the most damage upon their major enemy at this time was essential. Perhaps it was time to prepare full military invasion.

"Mr.Chairman?" Defence Minister Gordon Mayeau inquired. His brow was glistening.

"For Christ's sake Gordon, we just got our people landed. What?!?"

"We may have picked a bad time for that. It appears that Lamoni ans Novvs Atlantis ar at war."

"Holy crap. Anything this end?"

"Xile appear to have joined the Atlantians...."

"Well that's a no-brainer!"

"...As have Abattoir."

Chairman Warzycha almost choked on his own saliva. "So lets see. That's Rock (The Chairman holds up his left hand at shoulder height), Hard Place (now the right), Us. (The Chairman cranes his head in between his hands.)"

"Yussur."

"Bugger that. I'm not toughing this one with a ten foot pole. Ready a couple of SAM sites. Anything non-neutral enters our airspace, if it ain't a bird, blow it to smithereens. If it is a bird, smack it with some AA fire. I ain't putting anything past these guys."

"Right sir. I'll get on that straight away. Oh, and some good news..."

"Oh?"

"LUCIFER has been sent to hell. NA messed up when they fired it."

"Send the Imperiator a ham as a condolence." The Chairman sighed in relief. Even if they were staying neutral, he didn't want his nation looking like an Olney frying pan*.

(OOC: I want to put the Chacorian force in charge of the Emagolian volunteers so that the Emagolians have some officers. Chacor and Emagol can TG me with what they think of that, and which of the two nations wants to RP that.)

"Lamoni had been hit with a lot of missles and air strikes. Xile and NA probably thought that they have us between a rock and a hard place," President Stone thought.

Turning to his Air Force General, he demanded "Why the hell did we NOT have Air Patrols above our cities during these attacks!?!?!?! Do I have to do all of the thinking myself!?!?!? You are fired!!!! Get out of here, and get your replacement in here NOW!!!!!!!! " Feeling somewhat better, the President told the now lone Air Force officer in the room (a Major), and ordered, "Get Combat Air Patrols into the skies above all likely targets right now. Deploy the SAMS and AAA in a effective pattern. You are now a Colonel." The newly frocked Colonel hurridly saluted, and ran out of the room to carry out his instructions. Looking at Colonel-General Bondarenko, he ordered, "Get the THS ground troops on the ground on the double." That sent the Colonel General off to carry out his instructions.

The Foreign Minister came into the room and handed the President a note. It was from Nivekllayr2, and it promised 200,000 'gangsta killas' to aid Lamoni in the war. The President groaned, thinking, "This is the LAST thing that I need."

(OOC: I sent NA a TG about the 'gangsta killas,' and we are going to negotiate something about them as I don't want them.)

"What in the name of the gods is going on?" A crash resonated through the halls of the Citadel and the Praetorians grabbed the hilt of their blades as the Imperator questioned the Consvl.

"Apparently gangs of our more prominent cities including Nova Roma have been bribed to commit acts of domestic terrorism against us by Lamoni. Generally they fight amongst themselves but now they seem to be targetting military garrisons, government buildings and in the cities of Massilia and Genua they are going so far as attacking the fortified outposts."

"I want them all killed. If they don't like life here, they can die. PRAETORIANS, assemble, we have blood to spill."

From the shadows of the Citadel a cohort of Praetorians assembled at the feet of the Imperator. The Praetorian Prefect, Titvs Maximvs Regvlvs, handed the Imperator an mate and he led the way out of the Citadel and into the Forvm Romanvm of Nova Roma.

The Imperator ducked as several bullets whizzed by his head. He shot a sustained burst at the area and a scream sounded from behind a dumpster as the gun's armor piercing bullets struck a target.

"Spread out, no mercy. Spare one for every ten you kill."

Three hours had passed and over 5,000 bodies were returned to the Imperator. The ones who died were lucky, they were either shot in the abdomen or the face. The ones that were taken prisoner weren't so lucky.

"What do we have here?" The Imperator circled a thug who was being kept down on his knees by a Praetorian.

"Man yo, I ain't not be no disrespect you yo. I just be doing it fo' da bling, kaa, you know I'm say?"

"Yes, yes, I know what you're saying. What's your sign, kaa?"

The thug through up his hands and formed the word "BLOOD" with his fingers.

"A Blood, hmm... hmm.... Praetorians, send him through a meat processor, alive."

"What da hell yo? You a sick bastard yo, you sick -explicitive removed-. Imma I dislike your position, comrade. Maybe we can talk this over another time when my emotions are not so escalated? up yo, you can't do dis to me. I be tell niggahs all day yo. You can't do this! Naw yo, let me go and I be coo', I be coo'!"

"Dispose of the others in a similar manner. Eviscerate them, decapitate them, boil them alive, whatever you feel like. Be sure to record it however, and play it in the colosseums and in the major cities. In fact... Send recordings to each gang, the Bloods, the Crypts, all of them. Give them this ultimatum:

Either they surrender or they all die like their friends did.

Simple as that. Now go."

The Praetorians saluted the Imperator and carried off their screaming prisoners. The Imperator, however, walked back up the steps of the Citadel with the nine remaining Praetorians and muttered,

"Odd that Lamoni hasn't attacked yet."

'Sir, Colonel-General Bondarenko is contacting us, he says he wants our forces ready to go on the double.'
'Tell him we're ready and rearing. Do not mention our forward forces, they are only known of to President Stone. None other. Tell him we can have 200,000 Royal Guards move forward within the hour, and at least 700,000 Regulars can be moved out within 2 hours. Our spec. ops are at his disposal, they were prepared hours ago.'

Posted by: Lamoni Jan 23 2005, 12:17 AM
Looking at General-Colonel Bondarenko, President Stone asked "How are the preparations for the attack on Novvs Atlantis coming along?"

The reply came back without hesitation: "We are waiting for the troops from THS to arrive. Our forces, joined with the combined Chacor/Emagol corps, and the THS forces will roll into Novvs Atlantis in two days. It would be helpful if we had some special forces up ahead of the staging areas. I have many uses for them."

"That has been taken care of. You don't need to know how, but it has. However, you may surge as many Lamonian special forces ahead as you feel that you need. Just make certain that our special forces personell don't shoot people unless they are able to positively identify them as the enemy. Understood General?"

Out came the standard response of, "Yes sir."

As the thought came to him, the President asked the General about how the rogue gangstas were fairing.

"Well sir, they are doing about as well as can be expected. Their initial element of suprise is now rapidly fading, and we predict that they won't last long without it. After all, the are only armed with their own pistols and knives. There is nothing on them to tie them to us. We might actually have to thank Nivekllayr2 for adding them to the mix. They seem to be providing an excellent distraction. In fact, I would reccomend that we send out air strikes against Novvs Atlantis while they are otherwise occupied."

"Speaking of which," the President started to say, "where is the replacement for the Air Force General that I canned? He should've been here long before now."

"I honestly don't know, sir. I'll find out, though." With that, Bondarenko went over to a secure telephone and attempted to find the information that the President wanted. Meanwhile, the President had caught the attention of the Air Force officer that he had frocked to Colonel.

"Colonel, I want immediate air strikes against Novvs Atlantian military targets. We must use the distraction of the gangsters to our advantage while the gangsters are still alive. We already know that they've SAID that they will fight to the last man, but I don't trust them any farther than I can throw them, allies or not. Get going." Such were the orders of the President.

Posted by: Nova Roma Jan 23 2005, 08:19 PM
"Imperator, the gangs have responded to our messages."

"And?"

"The gang leaders have agreed to stop the violence; however, the prospect of money from Lamoni and whatever ally helped in this incident is too much for some of the gang members to ignore. Splinter gangs have formed, less powerful than the main gangs, but still an annoyance.

They don't seem to respond well to regular military personnel... Praetorians on the other hand... Well... I think you should look at this yourself."

Consvl Marivs handed the Imperator a data crystal which was promptly entered into his data pad. It was a video.

The static buzzed out and the recording was clear. The camera was behind two dark figures, as the light focused it was revealed they were Praetorians, the Imperator's elite bodyguard and police force. Molded cuirasses of gold-plated titanium were the only real visible feature on the figures; outside of the Citadel the Praetorians had disposed of their ornate helmets, greaves and cloaks and replaced them with more modern military clothing. Their cuirasses, however noticeable they were, would never be left behind in a time of war.

The lead Praetorian made a hand gesture and the rest of his squad moved through the alley. They reached a door, the point Praetorian opened it gently and they all crept in, bearing their MIX* rifles at their shoulders. They reached a set of stairs and climbed up. At the head of the stairs was a door, laughter and crude comments could be heard. The point man slid a fiber optic probe under the door, his data pad confirmed what they had all heard:

A group of splinter Crypts.

The laughter stopped as the door opened and a flashbang rolled in. The grenade went off and screams followed. The ringing died down and twelve bodies lay on the ground. Two of them were still alive.

"-explicitive removed- son, they missed us! We still alive! Yeah, -explicitive removed- yall punks! Yeaahhh!!"

The Praetorian with the camera grabbed the imbecile and threw him out the window, the man screamed and was impaled on a fence post.

The last thug crouched in a puddle of his own urine, too scared to do anything. A boot to the back of his head forced him down into the mess. The camera Praetorian took out his combat knife and cut the man's pants off. He ripped his boxers down and spread the mans legs. Three other Praetorians held the man down. The sound of velcro was heard on the camera and a cylinder shaped object appeared. CV, an explosive less powerful than CIV but more confined and precise. The camera Praetorian spat on the object and shoved it up the thug's rectum.

A detonator appeared in the camera man's hand; the Praetorians evacuated the room and left the building. Camera Praetorian knelt on the stairs leaving only the camera to witness the explosion. A bright flash accompanied the sound and bits of flesh and organ dripped from the ceiling and walls. The camera shut off.

"Excellent, is it bringing results?"

"Is it bringing results? I can't say. The thugs never have enough time to surrender, they either die not knowing what hit them or they aren't given the chance to plea. Regardless, your Praetorians know their stuff. We've yet to have a casualty among them. The grunts, however, are a different story. 2,567 are injured so far, and 23 are dead. Various drive-bys and nightly-missions are the blame. But with the progress your Praetorians are making, we expect to get rid of this problem by the end of the week."

"Any movement in Lamoni?"

"Some repositioning of their allied auxilias, more patrols over their cities, a few deviations in patrol flight paths over their bases, increased naval activity, and more ground movement are what we've been seeing. There's definitely been some movement recorded by satellite in several Lamonian mountain ranges. Nothing exact, but pixels that are seen in one shot aren't seen in the same spot in the next. Most likely special forces awaiting our arrival into the area, but we can't be sure."

"But no major counter-attacks?"

"No; other than their ships and submarines waging counter naval operations against us."

"Hmm... Odd. Continue the cleansing of the gangster pestilience, make sure our SAM grid is functional and keep those defensive gauss rifles prepped."

"Of course, Imperator."

Marivs scuttled off through the archway and into the next room. Siricvs watched the Praetorian footage again and chuckled to himself.

Sani Grotkoller moved forward at a snail's pace, incredebly cautious, in the mountains on the border between NA and Lamoni. According to his GPS, he would cross the border in 20 seconds at this pace. He had orders from above to moved into enemy territory, plant forward sensors, take out targets of opportunity, and place small thermite mines at enemy encampments to prepare for any future fights in the area, so spec ops could effectivelly slip in through a hole in the wall and take out the camps in the dark. He and his team of 4 snipers, spotters, and spec ops personell managed themselves quite well and the mission went off without a hitch. The thermite mines planted, incredebly small listening devices thrown into camps over the walls, and 4 enemy combatants taken out on patrol in the forest, one of them in quite an embarassing position at death, taking a piss while his throat was slit and a silenced bullet pierced his skull. They left the bodies there to rot as a psychological ploy on the enemy, hoping it might unnerve them enough to affect their combat ability in the future.
According to HQ, similar surgical teams were piercing enemy lines and completing similar missions. The teams had no national identifying marks, no dog tags, and if they were captured, each individual was trained to press a small sensor on the side of his neck, only activated while on missions, which promptly blew his head off with a small charge inserted in the base of his neck. So far only 3 or 4 reports of men getting captured had been reported, all the charges going off as planned, sighted by spotters several hundred yards from the incidents, trailing the teams with surveilance equipment for HQ to analyze.

"Special operations forces from our enemies have infiltrated our camps, Imperator. We captured several, but they promptly committed suicide."

"Obviously they aren't so special if we caught them."

"No, they killed about a dozen or so patrols."

"Again, not so special. True special forces on a mission like theirs would either kill no one or kill everyone. If you leave survivors, they find the bodies then they clue in to their command that something's going on. Alert is heightened and further spec ops missions are much harder, if not impossible. I was a Praetorian myself, Marivs."

"Indeed, your orders?"

"I want an order of 500,000 extremely sensitive motion tracking devices to be delivered to our forward bases directly from Nova Tech."

"Of course. Anything else?"

"Yes... I want a full investigative sweep conducted in all bases. Search for anything foreign, anything not documented under maintenance logs or base command logs is to be destroyed. Enemy special forces wouldn't infilitrate our camps to let us know they're around. They've left something for us."

(OOC: Just in case there is any confusion about my Hover Tank's EM Rail Guns, the following link will explain what I mean: http://www.battelle.org/navy/railguns.pdf )

LAF (Lamonian Air Force) Major General Gustafson watched as one of the many air wings left on their mission to destroy Novvs Atlantian military bases. What he didn't know is that as the Allied Air Forces conducted their air strikes, the Allied ground forces would be attacking Novvs Atlantis as well. Their objective was to get Novvs Atlantian forces off of the mainland, which would hopefully shorten the war.

Back in the Lamonian War Room, the computerized map table showed the ground attack getting formed up in preperation to strike. General-Colonel Bondarenko was handed a message by an aide, read it, and gave the message to President Stone. "So," he said, "the nation of Zagros has sent us 10,000 more troops. Add them to the Combined Corps when they arrive."

The Combined corps (Emagol, Chacor, and now Zagros) was currently being held in reserve for when the anticipated breakthrough was achieved.

The anticipated reply ("yes sir") came back from the General-Colonel. Together, the two men watched the ground forces reach the border, and start exchanging shots with the Novvs Atlantian border stations. Lamonian and allied special ops troops had been 'advised' to hole up and wait for the ground assault, then join the ground troops. Overhead, the five FMJphoenix air wings were standing Combat Air Patrol over the ground troops as best they could. The Lamonian Hover Tanks had never been tested in combat, and the Lamonian Army was eager to see how well their EM rail guns would perform in combat.

"Are our forces almost in posistion Commander?"

General Wilson had been anticipating the question for days, and he knew that the Prime Minister knew what the answer was going to be. The order just needed to be given.

"Yes, sir. We've taken up posistion behind Novvs encampments, and are awaiting any information from the Imperator. We could move out within the hour if need be." he responded.

Tariskany looked at him sternly, and dismissed him from the room. If the plan was going along as hoped, it could be any day now...All out war had been avoided so far, with casualties only measuring in the thousands. Things were about to get interesting.

Posted by: Lamoni Jan 25 2005, 05:51 PM
The Lamonian Hover Tanks came around the border mountain range (that THS created), and lined up as best they could on the (obviously) uneven terrain. They would be using the mountains to shield themselves during this attack, and it was not long until the first shot rang out against a Novvs Atlantian border encampment. LAF fighter-bombers could be seen attacking the emplacements, their bombs adding to the destruction caused by the hover tanks. As they were not expected to be needed at this stage, the infantry stayed behind the mountains as the hover tanks engaged with their rail guns; their 'bumpers' keeping them from smashing themselves against the mountains with their shots.

"Imperator, the outposts are coming under fire from Lamonian forces."

"Excellent. Time to initiate phase I of the plan. Deploy the corpses and tell our forces to pull back to their designated retreat zones."

...

"Centvrion! Order your troops to move up to that forward bunker! I want SPNKR rockets covering those mountains as we fall back."

Tribvne Oppivs Patricvs pointed to a lonely bunker, partly entrenched in the rocky soil of the Lamoni/Novvs Atlantis border. The bunker resided in the halfway point of the first trench in the NA defenses. The Centvrion looked to his troops and shouted,

"Artillery! Let's move! Double time!"

Eighty legionaries ran forward to the bunker and its trenches; super dense tungsten shells shot by the troops as the Lamonian tanks continued their barrage. Several soldiers were lucky enough to take some of those rounds for the greater good of Novvs Atlantis. Their heads, chests, or legs shattered and exploded as the shells passed through and refused to stop.

For the most part the rush to the bunker was successful; casualties were taken but the majority of the artillery specialists made it to the bunker. The Centvrion ordered them to take positions and begin firing. SPNKR rockets shot up from the trenches and into the mountains.

All the whilel, the majority of NA troops were retreating as bombs rained down overhead. Several avxillary cohorts were left behind to set up the corpses. Bodies taken from the morgues, labs of universities, and abandoned graves were dressed up in NA uniform, sprayed with shrapnel, and dipped in a synthesized blood product. The avxillaries begun their operation as the sun started to set and just now at sunrise were they beginning to finish up.

The SPNKRs could still be heard in the distance as the last avxillary cohort began its retreat.

...

"All troops have retreated to their fortified bunkers, several miles from the target area."

"Excellent, excellent. Is it ready?"

"Not yet. Tests are still showing a 23% chance of failure. The seismic activity produced by the work and the tests could be enough to clue Lamoni in on our little secret."

"Hmm... How is it coming along with Abattoir and Xile? Are they ready for it?"

"Yes, they've also pulled what troops they have in the area back to the bunkers as well. Imperator, this is going to catch the Lamonians with their pants down. They won't even be expecting this type of attack. The worst they could do is prepare their military for it, and even then, there's not much you can do against something like this. No amount of lead, bio-suits, or vaccines will stop this!"

The Imperator looked at the Consvl and laughed.

"Marivs, always so optimistic. Let Nojika know that after we launch this, we're going to need them to hit Lamoni with everything they've got."

"Of course Imperator."

*Sniper team Aplha Theta, mountains near the Lamonian Hover Tank group*
'What in Sam hell!? did those tanks really do that much damage? all I can see are dead bodies everywhere! Jesus. Mike, switch to thermal to check for casualties on their side.'
'Uh, sir, I only see faint heat signals from the front of the dead where we saw the SPNKR trails come from. Other than that these guys are deader than dead. Something doesn't feel right about this...'
'Thats right soldier... it takes at least several days of exposure for the body's temperature to comfortably lower... send word higher up Makresh, I think we may have a small situation on our hands. Surprise, what-have-you, I dont know, but send word.

*All accross Lamoni Territory, THS troops set up small defensive positions and prepared for the counter-assault from NA. They wanted to leave the real glory of combat to the Lamonians, it was their war after all, until THS aid was officially requested, other than the forward teams of course.*

As the Novvs Atlantian rockets landed amongst the Hover Tanks and the mountains; which caused quite a few casualties, General Maxwell Black (the officer in charge of the attack) looked through a thermal sight from his prepared mountain command bunker. He could see the thermal 'hot spots' from the rocket launchers, and ordered the FMJphoenix planes to take them out. After that vital task was completed, he had the Combined Corps take on a Lamonian Hover Tank company, and move forward to scout the terrain. One of the troops happened to look through the thermal sight of his tank in order to find the rocket positions, and noticed a remarkable abscense of heat from the dead bodies. He was about to say something when a Novvs Atlantian heavy anti-tank rocket hit the Hover Tank and destroyed it. In retaliation, a Chacorian tank shot at and destroyed the rocket launcher, which was cunningly hidden.

Back at the command bunker, the Civil Gaurd units were still on the Lamonian side of the mountains, but one order from Gen. Black started them moving in to join the fight. This was going to be a major fight that Novvs Atlantis and their allies would never forget.

Meanwhile, a Lamonian four carrier group task force (including eight submarines) set sail, and went into combat against the Novvs Atlantian naval units that would have been in the way of a still secret Lamonian operation plan.

In the mountain command bunker, they were experiencing an earthquake. "What in tarnation was that!?!?!? Natural or artificial?!!?!," Gen. Black demanded to know. When no one could tell him what he wanted to know, he sent a special ops team to find out, and sent the rest of his alloted special forces units toward the enemy defensive positions.

President Stone noted that THS forces were setting up defensive positions inside Lamonian territory, and decided that he'd leave them there for now, just in case.

"Gods be damned! How long is this going to take Marivs?"

The Consvl, standing a considerable distance from the fuming Imperator, regained his posture.

"As you know, Roma wasn't built in a day. We must take our time with this, if we rush it, it could bring the gods' wrath down upon our own men as well. It will be ready within the week Imperator. The avxillary legions can hold their own while we prepare for the attack."

"Very well, but the fate of our nation is at stake here. We can't just sit around and wait while Lamoni and her allies are at our throats."

"Caesar... There is one more thing."

"Yes?"

"The Equites Singulares have volunteered to spearhead the strike after the attack."

The Imperator chuckled as he turned his back to the Consvl and looked up at the ceiling.

"I expected such from them, always wanting to steal the glory from the legions. Not this time. There's too much to lose if they are lost. Tell them such and if they have any complaints they can take it them up with me. That is all Consvl."

"Of course."

Allied forces were moving farther into Novvs Atlantian territory, waiting for the retaliation that everyone expected, but no sane person wanted. Eventually, fortified bunkers were sighted. An encrypted radio call to Gen. Black, and the allied forces were attacking the line of enemy defenses.

Back in Lamoni, twelve Tomahawk cruise missles were launched against key Novvs Atlantian power plants. They stayed low to the ground, where there was less chance of them being shot down as they approached their targets. As with all cruise missles, there were some that missed the target. Two Lamonian cruise missles malfunctioned and went off course, causing them to eventually fly out into the ocean, where they slipped under the waves and fell to the ocean bottom. The other ten were still on course for their targets as yet.

A ten carrier group task force (including 20 subs) was gathered between the Lamonian mainland and Lemnos to escort troop transports with more Lamonian army troops and equipment inside them to another part of the enemy's (NA's) mainland strip. If they were successful in opening up a second front, then the enemy would have to pour more resources into the battle there, masking Lamonian intentions, as well as giving the Allies the upper hand in Novvs Atlantis.

Fresh Lamonian troops were sent to the first enemy line of defense, where they knew that most of the dead troops didn't really die here, thanks to THS's warning. The troops moved the corpses out of the enemy fortifications, and dumped them into mass graves; using engineer bulldozers to cover the graves with dirt. They were also to see what the enemy had left behind in those fortifications, including any possible boobytraps.

Again the Emperor's counsel sat around the room and again some of those around the table were holograms, including Lord Kahal who was still on his flagship somewhere off of Lamoni's coast. And again in the center of the table was an imbeded holographic map of the region with the locations of all Nojikan fleets and naval ships and all other known fleet and ship locations. Other icons on the mapped marked locations of military targets around the region and large cities as well as numerous other things.

Grand Moff Terek Kator of the South Cove region stood to speak.

"Nojika's allie, Novvs Atlantia requested our state's assistance in a conflict with Lamoni and we agreed to support them throughout their war. We expressed our intent to support N.A. in their war and we must uphold that promise." He paused as a blinking red dot appeared on the holographic map showing that Lamoni forces had moved further into Novvs Atlantia territory. Looking up he continued, "Just days ago, Novvs Atlantia sent yet another transmission requesting Nojika's support in an operation aimed towards Lamoni. And we have yet to reply. The time is now, we can not let our allies down and this is Nojika's oppurtunity to show off it's grand naval fleet and exercise its strength during waring times. Nojika must prepare for aggressive action against Lamoni."

"With all due respect, what if something goes wrong?" General Falco asked slaming his fist into the table while rising. " We could lose a great majority of our military strength in a war we shouldn't be involved in. There is no reason for Nojika to be involved in Novvs Atlantia's foreign affairs!"

"What could go wrong?" Kator, still standing looked across the table to Falco, "We have an incredibly disciplined and loyal military, and Nojika finally has the oppurtunity to expand our territory and show our military's might and you of all people would rather sit back and watch?"

"I understand the point you are making, but do you recall the South Cove war? Novvs Atlantia was our enemy!" The room instantly errupted and it seemed as though everyone was yelling at everyone else.

"Silence, all of you." And within an instant of this being said the room was silent. The Emperor stood as his counsel calmed down and sat back in their seats. "We will support Novvs Atlantia in this war. This is no longer just their war, but it is now our war too." The Emperor turned to the fuzzy hologram standing next to him, "Lord Kahal, you will contact Novvs Atlantia and submit to their requests. Novvs Atlantia will now have supervised control over all deployed fleets; However, you are still in command."

"Yes..my lord." And with that Lord Kahal's image faded away.

Imperator Tiberivs Sentius Siricvs paced about his chamber. He stopped, looked to the heavens, and heaved open his doors. The two Praetorians to either flank of the door brought their ornamental Hastae to the ground, tapping their spears three times to indicate the Imperator had left his room.

Commotion could be heard from the room directly down the hall from the Imperator's chambers, the Battle Room. Siricvs strode down the hallway and into the room. Generals, the Consvls, and aides were yelling at each other and pointing frantically to the holo-map. The Praetorians at the flanks of the door followed the ritual that their comrades had just performed, minus a tap, to indicate the Imperator had now entered the room. Silence ensued.

"What is it now?" Siricvs was agitated, news of the war was not coming well, pulling troops out of the fight to prepare for the attack was costing Novvs Atlantis countless denarii in pillaged land.

Consvl Marivs was the first to speak up.

"The Lamoni military has reached our tertiary fortified line. After that they will have reached the main body of troops and they may be aware of our plans. If they catch the troops before they are ready... They will either corner them or drive them into the sea. On the bright side... The napalm charges in the first fortified line and the nerve gas in the second line went off without a hitch. We incinerated quite a few Lamonians at the first line. Not so many were taken by surprise in the second line."

A general interrupted.

"Imperator, our forces are spread thin, we can't hold off the entire Lamnoi force while the rest of the military awaits the attack. The attack must be within the day or Novvs Atlantis will fall."

Consvl Decivs gasped in excitement as a message flared up on his datapad. The room turned to him.

"What is it Decivs?"

"A message from Nojika! They are ready to fight, their forces are under our supervision and they have agreed to attack as soon as we are ready!"

"How'd you get that before any of us?" A tech rat peered at the Consvl from behind his glasses and adjusted his pocket-protector.

"Well... uh... I upgraded my 'pad with some special components... You know... An XIX Broadband Transponder... The works!"

Sircvs sighed and turned to Marivs.

"How long Marivs? How long until we can attack?"

Marivs looked around at the faces of the generals and scientists, the aides and the Praetors. He checked his data pad once more, looked at several important looking generals who gave him and nod and responded.

"It's ready."

"Very well, order the Nojikans to take up position along our fortified lines to keep the Lamonians out. Make sure the Nojikans know to strike as soon as Lamoni begins to pull her forces out, if they do pull out that is. If they don't, make sure they remain on the defensive for us."

"Of course Imperator, any other orders?"

"Yes, begin the attack."

A cheer rang out from the room and orders were made to commence the attack.

500 miles from Nova Roma on the Lamoni/NA border, the mountains began to slightly shake. No satellites were turning however, no missile siloes opened and prepared to fire, no super-cannons or space-ships, just a slight tremor underneath the mountains and it moved slowly along the ground.

At the far north-western edge of Lamoni a fissure tore open the ground. The ground cracked and split... And an armored drill appeared. It erupted from the ground and drove along the grass out of the way of the hole. A man got out, surveyed the area with binoculars and took out his radio.

"All clear... for now."

A thunder could be heard from the hole and it grew louder and louder. Soon the smell of diesel could be distinguished and the sound of trucks could be heard. An APC crept up the earthen ramp created by the drill on its exit and pulled next to the drill, troops got out and also surveyed the area. No radio response however as a whole line of APCs and tanks started to pour from the tunnel like ants.

One of the men that got out of the first APC smiled and turned to a soldier to his left.

"Order up the anti-aircraft emplacements, setup a perimeter and sweep the surrounding forest. After a perimeter is established, setup camp. We'll move out at daybreak."

Thousands of troops started working, setting up AAA and putting together the pre-fab structures. Others patrolled in their Humvees. The legions worked diligently but they only had several hours until daybreak. However, the several weeks of nonstop drilling had given the legionaries a new look at "hard work".

As seismology recording stations all over Lamoni recorded the 'earthquake' in northwestern Lamoni, President Stone ordered that the LAF would send some planes over the affected area to take a look for damage, and whatever else that they could find. He also ordered part of the Lamonian Marine Corps to enter the area to assist the residents with whatever humanitarian assistance that they needed.

After all, he reasoned, If the nation was further attacked, he could always call up more reserves, the rest of the Marine Corps, and he had the THS forces all over the country. It was most certainly better than nothing.

Meanwhile, Lamonian and allied forces were continuing to press their attack on the main enemy lines inside Novvs Atlantis. They seemingly had yet to meet enemy armor, but they kept a wary eye out for any potential suprises. Men fought and died, the enemy was attempting to keep the Allied forces occupied, and most of the bunkers were shot up by allied fire. It looked like things were going well, but no one forgot that combat was full of suprises.

The Lamonian naval task force was entering Novvs Atlantian waters, and was preparing to offload the forces that would open up a second front behind enemy lines. As Novvs Atlantis had used nerve gas on allied forces, the Lamonian military planners had reasoned that it was only fair that Lamoni retaliate in the same way. As the landing forces came off of their transport ships, multiple cruise missles with Sarin warheads were going to be fired at key enemy resistance points that were to be pinpointed by Lamonian satellites.

"A Lamonian naval task force has entered our waters, Imperator. An assortment of warships, carriers, and we're picking up echoes on sonar, possibly submarines. However, amphibious assault craft have landed... here..."

The admiral pointed to a point on the holomap and continued.

"We're redirecting Nojikan forces along with our own to counter the new threat. And Xile and Abattoir have their fleets en route and will begin shore bombardment and engage enemy naval forces within the day."

Siricvs turned to Qvaestor Archarivs.

"Production. Military production. How's it going?"

"Our factories are operating at near 100% efficiency, tanks are being produced everyday along with plenty of ammo for years of fighting. The shipyards are moving relatively slower but everything's moving along with training of troops. By the time we have a new ship up and running we have a new crew ready to roll. This isn't going to last forever though, sign up rates are slowing."

"Abattoir, Xile and Nojika?"

"Their production levels are similar from what statistics we have recieved. Even with help from THS, Lamoni has no chance. Their weak economy prevents them from mustering factories anywhere close to our production levels."

"Predator squadrons?"

"UAV Predators are currently making nightly runs over Lamoni. Nothing serious, as of yet. We've had several malfunctions, a couple run-ins with armed civilians but other than that... It seems Lamoni is unaware of them. Their operators are awaiting targets."

"Target anything that looks like a goverment building, anything that could be a provinicial, local, regional, national, whatever government facility. I want them reduced to rubble. We have to ta... What in the name of the gods is that?"

The Imperator spun to the holomap and a general shouted,

"Cruise missiles, inbound. They're targetting military fortifications. Infantry bases."

"Get them underground and into their bunkers immediately! That's a direct order general and let the boys know it's straight from my mouth to their ears. Activate the Ivpiter defense grid and take those missiles down!"

Shouts were made and officers scrambled to different parts of the war room, sending out orders, coordinates and data to other stations around Novvs Atlantis and to the Ivpiter Defense Grid. The anti-missile defense system around Novvs Atlantis.

"Defense grid is powering up but three missiles will already be over us by the time it is, the other three missiles will detonate above..."

The officer looked at his screen.

"One above the channel, one above a Lamonian coastal town, and the other above the border mountains."

"Well do you what you can damnit!"
...

Ivpiter Defense Grid

...

Stations around Novvs Atlantis came to life, their lasers pivoting about and focusing on the missiles. The first station, just outside of Ariminum, charged up and fired its MIRAC laser. Looking like a large spot light, the turret followed the missile with its beam. Five other stations came to life and tracked the last two missiles. As planned, one detonated over the bay and the other over the bordering mountain range. The first three missiles, however, were still en route to the NA infantry bases.

...

20 miles from NA/Lamoni border

...

Tribvne Marcellvs woke to the flashing of his data pad: an urgent message... from the Imperator.

"What could it be this time?"

He activated his pad and read the message.

CODE
Cruise missile attack imminent; prepare immediately.

"For the love of the gods."

The Tribvne slammed his fist down on the alarm next to his bed. Klaxons and sirens wailed throughout the camp. Soldiers lept from their beds and double-timed it to the underground bunkers where they could find refuge from even the likes of a nuclear fallout.

An avxillary engineer sealed the door from the camp to the bunker and ran down the stairs and into the mess hall where all the other soldiers were. A head count was made and it turned out that one man remained above ground, a certain Private First Class Rick James...

...
...
PFC Rick James ran to the door just as the engineer locked it. He banged on it several times, but to no avail. He heard the whine of a missile and looked up.

"Now that's just superfreaky. I knew I shouldn't have turned off my alarm today! But I'm Rick James. Bitch. Hoo-ah!"

The missile slammed into the command structure and detonated. Unfortunately for PFC Rick James, the explosion didn't vaporize him.

"Yeah! I'm Rick James! What now son?"

His exclamation of joy was followed by a quick pelvic thrust... followed quickly by a clutching of the chest as those muscles around his lungs froze and prevented him from breathing. Several muscle spasms later, PFC Rick James lay dead on the ground.

The last two missiles followed similar fates. The two other bases however weren't as quick to prepare for the attack and casualties numbered in the several thouands.

...

Nova Roma

...

"Reports confirm that the three targetted missiles were shot down. Marcellvs' base withstood the attack but Rvsticvs' and Secvndvs' bases weren't so lucky. Casualties are still coming in."

"And the tunnel attack?"

"Undetected so far. Lamoni is sending aid to the towns affected by the tremor and some patrol flights are in the area."

"Order them to move forward and begin crushing everything in their path."

"Of course Imperator."

Posted by: Lamoni Feb 6 2005, 05:25 PM
"Hawk 571, come to course 052, 350 knots, angels 30, over." The Lamonian air controller directed the plane to fly over an area that the air patrols had yet to check on possible damage to.

A cool "Roger," was the F-80 pilot's response. Major Allen Harkabi of the LAF manuvered his fighter-bomber onto the proper course, and saw something shiny on the ground. 'No big deal, it's probably a small pond or something,' he thought. Still, he should probably give it a closer look. As he flew closer to the ground, he spotted what looked like... a giant bore?? He circled the area, trying to get a better look at what was going on, until he was shot at by anti-aircraft fire. Evading the fire for the moment, he made a report on his radio, but then the AAA got him, and he was forced to eject.

When his report reached the Lamonian war room, it gained quick attention, and the decision was made to send the Lamonian Marines in to do a recon mission, with a second 'main' body of armed Marines standing by in case it was the enemy. In the meantime, the FRLS Antigua; which was escorting the forces used to make a second front, was authorized to launch ten Sarin tipped cruise missles at the Novvs Atlantian capital, and another ten at other major Novvs Atlantian cities. These missles would stay as close to the ground as possible, so as to make them harder to intercept. These missle strikes were intended to occupy the attention of the enemy leadership more than to cause casualties, but quite a lot of enemy casulties were expected from Sarin exposure. More EMP weapons were also made ready in case the enemy made an expected attempt to attack the Lamonian expiditionary force (the second front). It was decided that the FMJphoenix fighters would make use of them to support the expiditionary force, as the LAF and Marine Air Corps would be busy elsewhere.

On the main front, things were going well for the allies. The Hover-tanks seemed to do well at destroying enemy fortifications, even if both sides had lost many men. Entire Lamonian Artillery Corps were even joining in on the action, making the ground shake so much that people would be forgiven for thinking that they were experiencing an earthquake.

The analysis of the enemy fortifications that had already been overrun was already providing important clues about enemy construction techniques, as well as a little bit of enemy technology. Captured enemy weapons, as well as technology were taken back to Lamoni for study, and enemy POW's were also sent to Lamoni for interrogation and jailing.

"We've broken groun behind Lamoni lines, sir. Major attacks will begin shortly."

The Prime Minister leaned back in his chair. Bad habit his mother always told em would get him.

The door slung open and startled him to a backward collapse. He laughed as his wife stared him in the face.

"What the hell do you want, Alisande?" he chuckled as he picked himself up from the floor.

She looked at him haughtingly, the fool probably broke something and didn't even realize it. Oh well.

"Dinner's been ready, served, and sitting on your plate for over three hours. Get your ass home and eat or I won't be there when you get home!"

Tariskany sighed, grabbed his jacket, and turned to General Adrian.

"You can handle things for a bit. If we get any urgent messages, forward them to my house and I'll be right in."

The general grinned at his leader's quick reaction to his wife's orders. If only the military were so well trained...

On the main front, allied forces were passing the third enemy line of defense, and moving to join up with the Lamonian forces that were busily creating a second front. These forces would then push any remaining enemy forces in their theatre of operations into the sea.

Gen. Black was pleased with what the allied forces had accomplished in this theatre, but the reports coming back from Lamoni itself were troubling. It seemed that enemy forces had tunneled all the way from Novvs Atlantis to Lamoni, and were getting ready to attack. Lamonian Marines and THS forces would have to force them back, he decided. He also hoped that allied air power would be able to close the tunnel that the enemy was using, thereby cutting off supplies to the enemy forces.

"Imperator, we have finished uploading the Caelestis AI into our Ivpiter and Mars defense grids. Improved accuracy and coordination should be seen shortly."

"The legions that have broken though in Lamoni?"

"If Lamoni didn't know they were there they should by now. Reports confirm the downing of several scout aircraft but we're sure they got off messages before they went down."

"Inform the Eqvites Singvlares that they have a go for the blitzkrieg. Capture those cities and round up the civilians. Send them back here. We'll hold them hostage. Any resistance must be crushed. After the legionaries have secured the cities send in the Cohors Vrbanvs to eliminate guerilla fighters and the such."

"As you wish. Is there anything else?"

"Yes, get our allies on the line and find out where in the name of the gods their reinforcements are at."

Consvl Marivs saluted the Imperator and scurried out of the chamber.

...
Nearest Mars defense station to Lamoni incursion.
...

"Maybe we can see what this AI can do today, eh Silanvs?"

The technican's assistant laughed and cleaned the targetting computer, a red light blinked.

"Ha! Those Lamonian bastards are back for another pass! Target acquired, transmitting coordinates to Mars defense server! Ready when you are sir!"

"Copy that, initiating automated control... now!"

Outside the room, a large, magnetically charged barrel swiveled about its base and fired a super dense tungsten shell. The shell soared over the NA fortifications and cut the air like some sort of hot knife through butter.

"System reloading!"

A clip like mechanism fed another tungsten shell into the barrel and it fired again. A mile away another defense station opened fire. Soon some 20 stations were opening fire on the Lamonian forces attempting to overrun NA fortifications.

...
Infernvs Bomber squadron over NA/Lamoni channel
...

"Infernvs to air command, do you copy? Over."

"Infernvs this is air command and we're reading you loud and clear. You have a go for bombing run. Over."

"Copy that air command, breaking into formation and initiating radio silence. Over."

The 10 B-2 bombers cruised just above the rainclouds; the Imperator had chosen a particularly miserable day to attack, perfect for disrupting monitoring systems.

As the bombers entered Lamoni airspace, several SAM sites opened fire. One of the missiles found their mark and brought a bomber tumbling into the ground, the others were poorly locked and missed. The bombers broke off and flew towards their targets: fuel depots, ammo stores, barracks, factories, etc.

Those bombers that had to go deeper into Lamoni to find their targets either didn't make it there or didn't make it back, SAM fire being to heavy. The other bombers faired better, bombing their targets with over 40,000 pounds of explosives, enough to turn any factory or fuel station into a crater.

Only 6 bombers returned home.

President Lauir spun around in his chair. Things were looking good for the new life-long ruler of Xile. He glanced down at his desk and read over the Novvs Atlantian data burst.

"Begin deploying reinforcements to the front lines. I want another 250,000 troops there by the weeks end."

General Leland gave a smart salute and walked out of the room.

*A small assault force approaching the area around the NA tunnel dug several days prior.*
A bullet came out of the barrel with a muffled 'bang' from the silencer, and 2000 yards away a low gurgle came from the man's throat as he collapsed. 15 more muffled shots were thrown on the outer guards of the base in the pitch black of the moonless night. The snipers silently reloaded and sent another volley taking out more guards and other soldiers running to the site of their collapsing friends. A low rumble was heard as 3 Panther XXIV Heavy Wheeled Attack Vehicles started up and a low metallic clash rang out as their 105 mm guns loaded for the attack. Another volley of shots from the forward snipers felled another 16 enemy combatants. One enemy soldier was seen running back to the command post, or what intel thought was the command post. 3 of the snipers shot his head, neck, and upper spine to shreds.
A low rumble resounded 6 miles away, and a whine from 36, 400 lb, incendiary shells came from several thousand yards above the strike force. the shells pummelled the outer edges of the enemy encampment and the 4 High Explosive shells fired blew apart the fortifications previously spotted and targetted. The incendiary shells turned the rest of the base to hell in one huge firestorm and screams were heard everywhere. Another 40 whines were heard from above and the ground shook as 40 more shells pummelled the base. 2 LAVs with 4 heavy chainguns mounted on top rumbled to life and the auto targetting computers locked onto hundreds of heat signiatures from NA soldiers running for their lives all around the base. The Panther XXIV HWAVs began moving forward and so did 1,000 Assault Specialized soldiers alongside of them. The 105 mm guns rang out again and again, and the constant drone of the chainguns was taxing at the minimum for every soldier there, but mainly for the enemies that were getting cut down by them. The artillery ceased fire and the Strike Team stormed the base taking out any remaining resistance as the incendiary fires began to die down. The Strike Team captured 50 enemy combatants and killed an approximate 2,000 others. THS casualties consisted of 1 run flat tire getting a piece of shrapnel in it, 4 soldiers lightly wounded, 2 heavily wounded and rushed by medical vehicles to the medical center 10 miles behind the attack. 7 soldiers were killed, 2 by fires still raging from the inceniaries, and the other 5 by enemy fire.
THS command was content and counted the attack as a total success. There were 4 similar attacks occuring around the defense perimeter set up by the NA forces, and there was still 4 miles to go before the Allied attack forces would reach the tunnel site.

OOC: I appreciate you RP'ing my losses. Really makes it much easier and extremely fun seeing that my battle-hardened forces could only kill five of your guys? Please.

Despite the fact that I had already issued a blitzkrieg, so the chances of catching those men off guard (they were preparing for an attack so they would be at an extremely heightened state of alert) would be pretty slim. As for incendiary shells, that's cool, except for the fact that the chainguns locking onto HEAT signatures would have a hell of a time doing so if fires were raging around everywhere.

All I'm asking is that if you attack, don't carry through with the losses portion. Stop the RP somewhere at the part where the tanks, bombers, infantry, etc. get around, over, or near the target and let your enemy take over from there. If it's a sincere RP, they're going to RP real losses. If it's not a sincere RP then you get 2000 of your guys dead and only 10 of the enemy dead.

ooc: i didnt say things went well in the other parts of my attack. i just said similar attacks were occuring. christ you people dont rp a whole front and then when someone types something up you complain.
If several hundred shells smash into an encampment and 2000 spec ops storm in, your bound to be desomated.
Heat signiatures- outside of the base, running away, on fire.
ok, take the losses out of it completely. you say how many you lost.
off guard- middle of the night, no light, silenced snipers taking out your outer patrols, huge amounts of shelling moments later.... yeah, no amount of alertness would do much to that.
anyways, ill edit to take into account your views.
crap, cant edit.... ill just repost and change it around so it works for you.

2 LAVs with 4 heavy chainguns mounted on top rumbled to life and the auto targetting computers locked onto hundreds of heat signiatures from NA soldiers running for their lives out of the 4 holes in the defensive perimeter. At least some of the enemy was caught by surprise, and were scared sh!tless. The artillery ceased fire and the Strike Team stormed the base with the armor following close behind, dropping thousands of spent cartriges all over the ground. The 4 areas on the outside of the encampment where the High Explosive shells hit had hundreds of THS infantry pouring into them, spraying bullets into anything that moved. A core of the best NA troops was bound to be waiting for them and the battle would be taxing for both sides.
Similar attacks were occuring at 4 other spots in the enemy defense perimeter, and one was already routed due to a delay of 4 minutes in which communications had gone off and they attacked the Strike Force out in the open with their own artillery supporting them. The 3 other somewhat succesful Strike Forces were encountering heavy barrages of fire from the enemy and the Heavy Armor Group was called in, with 2,000 Heavy Attack Tracked Vehicles, dispersed amon the 3 attack areas. Now the General's council was just hoping the 4th base would not attempt to flank them but kept a small reserve of conscripts just in case.

(that better?)

Awakened by the explosion of artillery and the screams of those dying, groups of men positioned in higher and hidden vantage points around the attacked bases assembled for action. They were the Roman Arcani.

The Arcani were completely different from any other unit in the Roman legions. The only unit that was even remotely similar to them was the Praetorians, and only because they were both elite and could be classified as special operations forces. However, the similarities ended there.

Praetorians were raised from birth. Their loyalties lied with the Imperator and Nova Roma, no doubt influenced by the environment they were raised in. Their job was to defend the Imperator (or any other high-ranking official) with their lives and at any cost. They were efficient and ruthless, capable of annihilating entire units of men without taking any casualties and without being seen. However, this was the problem. The enemy was dead before it could know what happened. The enemy troops didn't spread fear among their army because they were dead before they could even think. Praetorians were also extremely few in numbers compared to other units in the legions, and rarely (if ever) went to the front lines, acting mainly as defensive units within Nova Roma or in times of dire need.

Arcani on the other hand were those men who signed up to be trained in special operations. They made up for what the Praetorians lacked, tactical finesse and the ability to strike fear into the hearts of the enemy without doing that much. Their job was to disrupt enemy formations; to take out supply lines, fuel depots, ammo stores, etc.; destroy an enemy armor unit while it was on the move; capture enemy leaders; or repel an enemy attack.

Arcani set up their tents in higher and hidden places than where the legion camps were located. The first reason to this was to ensure that the legions weren't completely destroyed in an attack and the second reason was the simple fact that the legions and Arcani never got along quite well.

The higher vantage points allowed Arcani to scout ahead and plan the route of attack or where the perimeter should be established. It also kept the Arcani hidden, usually allowing them to strike an engaged enemy who was too pre-occupied with the bright lights and noise of the main encampment.

These surprise attacks were where Arcani excelled. Usually their methods involved killing outer guards and stealing their uniforms and then causing havoc from within. They weren't as efficient as Praetorians but they were more than capable of giving the legionaries time to retreat or to fight back. And so we return to the Arcani who had just awakened...

They were quiet, extremely quiet, but they paid no heed to being detected and ran full speed to the enemy lines. Other Arcani were doing the same, some teams being more cautious than others. However, this group knew they had to do something and they had to do it quick. Just as the attack began, a priority message was sent to the legions that they should find an allied base to return to and stay there until further orders. The Arcani didn't need a CO to give them orders; their mission was simple: Distract and disrupt THS forces long enough for the legions to retreat into the tunnel and detonate behind them.

...
Forest edge, just above a perimeter Roman encampment
...

The THS spotter turned around and looked through the woods behind him.

"What is it?"

His sniper was anxious to get some kills; radio chatter had confirmed that other sniper teams were having a party, killing plenty of Roman soldiers.

Setting his scope back up, the spotter turned back around and found a target, a Roman Centvrion giving his troops orders.

"Nothing. Target! Sector A, from TRP I right 50, add 50."

"Roger, Sector A, from TRP I right 50, add 50."

"Lone soldier, black fatigues, rifle on back, hands in air and giving orders."

"Copy, lone soldier, black fatigues, rifle on back, hands in air and giving orders. Target identified. I've got 3 mils crotch to head."

"Confirmed, 3 mils crotch to head. Wind from left to rig-"

A silenced bullet pierced the spotter's skull and blood sprayed his partner's scope and face.

"What the he-"

Another bullet exploded down the barrel of the pistol and soon the two dead men found themselves naked as an Arcani pair took their uniforms and moved into the enemy lines. A guard on the perimeter stopped them.

"Who's there?"

The Arcani looked at the patches on their uniforms and replied,

"Bravo Team, we're coming back in to get some grub. We've killed enough Romans today."

"You can never kill enough of those scum, come on in and get your grub. I'll let the CO know your back."

"No, don't bother; we'll be heading back out after we eat, Lamoni high command sent us priority transmission to get our asses back to... uh... what city is it now?"

The Arcani in the spotter's uniform answered,

"Kazatlan, if I'm not mistaken."

The guard scratched his head and moved on. The pair waited for him to leave their line of sight and moved to the cover of a tent and some crates. The noise coming from the tent would indicate it as the mess hall; the sniper Arcani opened the crate nearest the tent. Grenades and ammo resided inside. He placed a charge of CV on it and the pair continued to navigate the camp, looking out for any more patrols but trying to find some vacant vehicles. Bingo. A Panther HWAV and a chain gun LAV.

"Get the team here now!"

The spotter took out his radio and sent the agreed upon message. An SOS through Morse code. 20 minutes later the rest of the Arcani emerged and scanned the camp.

"What's the plan Maximvs?"

"We plant some more CV around the camp, and then we take the HWAV and the LAV, detonate the CV and try to do as much damage to the enemy lines as we can. The tribvnes should know what to do from there."

"All right then, let's get started."

An hour and several dead guards later the Arcani team regrouped at the vehicles and started to get in. A guard shot at the HWAV and bullets pinged off of its armor.

"You there! Sto-"

His words were cut short as shrapnel shredded his body and explosions engulfed the camp. The two vehicles rolled through the ruined camp and headed towards the main lines...

...
THS line outside of destroyed perimeter camps.
...

The LAVs' chain guns whirred to life as they approached the smoldering ruins of a camp; countless Roman and THS soldiers were engaged in firefights all over the camp. Several rockets whizzed by the heads of THS commanders, detonating far off into the night sky behind them.

"Damn those soldiers, issue a retreat so we can use the LAVs to take care of those Romans."

"Yes sir."

As soon as the order was issued by the commander the Arcani controlled vehicles pulled up and began opening fire on the retreating THS soldiers. However, the THS LAV commanders believed the fire to be opening up on the Romans and they too opened fire; the retreating AS soldiers, unfortunately, were caught in the terrific crossfire.

Roman Tribvnes witnessing the carnage ordered a retreat and the Roman troops began falling back to the main camp, getting in Humvees, fuel trucks, whatever they could find to escape the THS lines.

The Arcani on the other hand had a different plan. The programmer in the team successfully automated the LAV to open fire on THS forces after about five minutes. The inside of the LAV was also rigged with explosives so that as soon as the hatch was opened the vehicle would explode. The four Arcani in the LAV got out and hid under it and began shooting at whoever they could. The Roman controlled HWAV however began inching out of the line and soon zoomed out of the area.

"Where the hell does that HWAV think he's going?"

"I don't know sir but it appears th-"

An explosion rocked the THS line and knocked just about every infantryman to his feet as the LAV burst into a ball of flame, covering the retreat of the Roman HWAV which was on its way to assist the other camps in their retreat.

...
Only remaining perimeter camp
...

"What in the name of the gods is going on Centvrion?"

"THS forces attempted to destroy this camp but they were engulfed by their own artillery strike. They were, however, successful in destroying the other three camps."

"Do we have coordinates of the enemy armor?"

"No, sir, no units were..."

The centvrion's data unit flashed as enemy armor coordinates were uploaded into it.

"The Arcani are uploading armor coordinates as we speak sir!"

"Well order the retreat and call in a damn tank buster air strike on those bastards!"

"Yes sir!"

15 minutes later the sound of an A-10 Warthog squadron could be heard overhead...

Posted by: Holy Saints Feb 17 2005, 10:34 AM
The low drone of the A-10 engines was barely heard over the continuing explosions all over the THS line, extremely disarrayed in some cases because of the surprise counterattack by several small enemy groups.

As the chainguns on the A-10s began opening up, 2 Chaingun LAVs scoped looked to the sky and opened fire, but were quickly desomated by the Depleted Uranium shells from the Warthogs. One small fire was seen as an engine on a Warthog was hit by several AP shells from one of the now destroyed LAVs. Warthogs were resilient and it kept going, shooting up HWAVs further down the line. One whole Armored Squad was destroyed in seconds as the Warthogs opened up with 2 missiles each and strategically aimed shots toward the fuel tanks.

The AA guns 200 metres behind the lines were quickly powerd up and began firing at the destructive enemy aircraft. Soon a squadron of FI 35 aircraft was in the midst of the fighting and began attacking the Warthogs.

One by one the Warthogs went down to the immense amount of fire, but inflicted enough damage that the Offensive Commanders called for 2 Battalions of Reserve Armor to be pulled in and an additional Light Attack Division for the heavier resistance expected ahead. It would be at least another 2 hours until these units arrived, and 1 hour until they could organize to pierce through the perimeter base that was not breached.

The additional 45.000 men called up in these 2 battalions and 1 division were the best reserves availiable in the area and had combat experience from 4 seperate wars in the past. If these failed to break through, another 6 divisions, or approximately 200.000 men, were ready to overwhelm the NA lines.

Posted by: Abattoir Feb 17 2005, 11:35 AM
Abattoir's long term delay in establishing reinforcements would soon be ending. Three massive armies consiting of an overall 300,000 troops was in route to collect any lost NA encampments and military bases that would still be operable.

Men would remain behind the operate and protect the reclaimed bases, while the rest would arrive at the line in a hope to push back Lamoni and THS forces.

A shipment of supplies would be in protection of the battalions, and would be followed by an additional 100,000 Xilian infantrymen. Temporary air bases would be set up in the meantime to enable quick air support to Societan troops.

The Lamonian forces scrambled to defend the area of the enemy incursion had finished their fortifications, and were ready to fight.

B-1B's of the LAF were loading up on Precision Guided Munitions (PGM), which were going to be used to fill up the enemy's hole, and cut off their supplies, with the remaining weapons being used on whatever enemy targets could be found. Lamonian supersonic bombers (OOC: these were used to ferry troops to Ainorpisp during their civil war) were going to drop paratroopers and special ops troops behind enemy lines at the same time.

In Novvs Atlantis, the units of the first front had met up with the units of the second front at last. Though they were taking shots from NA artillery, they had pretty well taken the mainland part of NA, and a (NA created) special ops mission had penetrated NA and spread 'special weapons' (nukes, not bio) all over that nation. The locations were picked so that minimal casualties and maximal psychological effects would be achieved.

As the enemy got closer in the Northwestern part of Lamoni, the Lamonian units were already locking up targets, and waiting to fire until they could see 'the whites of the enemy's eyes.'
