Having been fully accepted into the Atlantian Oceania region, the Allied States of Myrtannia would like to initiate its stay here with a sporting competition. In the interest of variation, Myrtannia will be hosting an international (within AO boundaries) basketball tournament. All nations are encouraged and welcome to enter one national team for both the men's and women's categories per nation.

Teams will be split into groups, and within each group, teams will play one another twice. The two teams per group with the best records after group play will advance to the tournament round. At this stage, single-elimination matches will be held to determine the Regional Champion and the second and third place winners. Venues selected for the inagural tournament are:

Air Myrtannia will cover all airfare into and out of the nation for participating teams, and the federal government will provide high-end motels for all teams. All interested parties should use this thread to sign up and/or post team rosters. When signing up, please specify if you are entering a men's team, a women's team, or both. In any case, teams may have up to 12 active players, with 2 on the reserve list.

ASMV will be pleased to send both a women's and men's team to compete, as basketball is the most prolific sport in the nation. Just let me know what you need for the rosters.

Nojika will participate -- though shouldn't it be called the AO Regional Basketball Championship instead of the AO International Basketball Championship? Ah well...

Well, you could call it the Regional Basketball Championship or the International Basketball Championship, whatever floats your boat, I suppose. I just assumed international since it was a contest between nations - thus, inter-national. Though I'm officially going to change it to AORBC, since that seems to fit better.

ASMV, what we need for rosters are -

For each player: name, height, position, jersey number
For team in general: Designation of starting lineup/bench/reserve players, name of head coach and possibly coaching staff.

I do see Nojika's point. Most times International means Inter-regional. But it doesnt matter to me.

Sarzonia wishes to sign up its teams, male and female.

So far, the AORBC's participating nations include:

Andossa Se Mitrin Vega
Nojika
Nedalia
Sarzonia
Myrtannia

Nations that will be in both men's and women's divisions:
ASMV, Sarzonia, Myrtannia

Undeclared division-wise:
Nedalia, Nojika

Those who haven't declared men's, women's, or both, please do so at your earliest convenience. Also, any participants who have not yet posted rosters, I will be creating a separate thread for AORBC roster lists. Please post them there.

Nedalia will be participating in the mens division.

Posted by: Lamoni Feb 12 2006, 08:51 PM
Lamoni will be sending a men's team.

I suppose I will give this a go, since I am at least somewhat familiar with the sport. For those who don't already know, I'm pretty much the stereotypical geek when it comes to sports, in that I know little of anything in concerns to them. I've been involved some in the past with basketball though, so I'll give this a try. Here's hoping I don't screw up somehow. smile.gif

Oh, and I'll be sending a men's team.

Oooohhh, Khazi is in!

Posted by: Lamoni Feb 16 2006, 09:55 PM
So when does the show get on the road?

Posted by: Myrtannia Feb 17 2006, 09:34 PM
Well, rosters from those who haven't already posted them would be nice (might give you a bonus in the simulation, too, hint hint), but we can get started soon. I was hoping for perhaps a few more entrants to broaden the field a bit, but it looks like this' going to be it.

So far, we have: ASMV, Nojika, Nedalia, Sarzonia, Myrtannia, Lamoni, and Khazaron.

Nations who've posted official rosters: ASMV, Lamoni, Myrtannia, and Khazaron.

Also, due to there only being three women's team entrants (two of which have posted rosters), the women's event will probably be axed this time around. Possibly we could have a winner-takes-all match between the two with rosters to determine regional women's champion.

For the field we have so far, I'll most likely split them into one group of four and one group of three. In a change from the initial setup, the two teams with the best records after the round-robin round will recieve automatic berths in the tournament stage, and those with the next two best records will also advance to that stage.
