"Sir! We're taking on water sir!" a sailor exclaimed on the bridge of FNS Feather. Captain Holt was under pressure: his ship was being torpedoed for the fourth time that day. Feather was the primary battleship in the Resdal Strait blockade, and the Terri submarines didn't like this blockade much: it impeded their colonisation of Falcania.

"we can't keep firing our cannons in these waters!" shouted another sailor. "If we don't get near a coastline we're finished."

"Set bearing 40N 30E! head for Mathdon!" Holt was desperate.

"The GPS Locator was destroyed, sir!"

"Look sir! Seagulls! There's a coastline to the south-west!"

"Set course for there!" Holt shouted. The ship still had two engines operational and it crawled slowly to the shore.

"We're over coast sir! Guns loaded and ready!"

"Fire at will!" The cannons fired and shells splashed all around the ship. However, one shell found its mark, and a plume of smoke rose into the air. "Keep firing!" Holt shouted. The smoke dwindled as the Terri submarine slowly descended into the waters.

"Where are we?" shouted a sailor. Another, who had dug out a compass and an old map hummed thoughtfully.

"It's unclaimed land. According to the landgrab law of 1886, the first ship to land and claim it should get it if unopposed. That law was never overwritten"

Holt said "I name this land Jayland!"

FBC 7 o'clock news reported today:
The crew of the FNS Feather today discovered a portion of land suitable for colonisation. The small portion of land inbetween Falcania's homeland and Cockbill street, if unopposed, has been claimed for factory land for Jay Industries.

In other news, the world's first hamster-sized submarine was created crewed by small gerbils...

"In a monumental decision" Announced the newsreader today, "Jay industries have decided to forgo the prospect of factory land in Jayland. The new mainland portion has been given to the rest of Falcania. Once the blockade on the Resdal Strait has repulsed Terri invaders, work on an undersea tunnel will begin, linking the two places, and bringing us one step closer to our neighbours, Cockbill Street."
