(OOC - sorry the draw wasn't done yesterday. An unexpected shopping trip ruined all my plans.)

"Here we are live in Ts'khinvali, South Osettia, for the group draw of the first ever Atlantian Oceania Champions League, the competition where 32 teams battle it out to be the top domestic dog in the region. Here comes head of the SOFA, Mr. Terfur Igliou."

"Thankyou all for coming this evening to witness what will surely be the start of a long and wonderful tradition. Football is the thing that binds us all together. Historically it has been a saviour in wars; that is what the magic of this game can do. Now we will hopefully witness this magic once again, as we do the group draw for the AO Champions League. The teams will be divided into four pots, as shown on the screen behind me:"

After the first day of matches, the four teams that are competting from Fmjphoenix went a combined 1-2-1 with the Spraatan Tigers being the winning team from Spraat. The two teams that drew their matches were the favorite and previous winners of the Fmjphoenix Football League Championship Vanguard Eagles and the Alabaster Eagles. The Capitol City team could not get the job done today as they lost 1-0. For the record, here are the teams stats.

Vanguard Eagles:
W-D-L: 0-1-0 | Goals For: 2 | Goals Against: 2

Spraatan Tigers:
W-D-L: 1-0-0 | Goals For: 2 | Goals Against: 1

SFC teams earn four points in first matchday

The first matchday of the AO Champions League was an instant replay of the results from the second leg of NS Champions League qualifying. The Woodstock Wild earned a one goal win, beating Hubana City from northern neighbors Chacor 1-0. Forward Brian Wilson scored the goal in the 77th minute when a Humana City midfielder brought down midfielder Darwin Russell in the 18 yard box. Goalkeeper Horace Sandt notched the clean sheet with six saves.

Meanwhile, the Portland Timbers earned a 1-1 draw against Calista Flock from Big Pimento. Forward Chris Thomas scored the first goal in the competition in the 28th minute with the Timbers having the run of play, but defender Joe Tillman gave up an own goal when his backpass to goalkeeper Troy Perkins hit off a pebble and took a bounce that Perkins couldn't handle.

"We just know how to play well in big games," Woodstock Coach David Bostwick said. "That's why we've won several championships in the SFC."

Portland has become known as a team with great talent but unable to play in the clutch, and their loss to an average Calista Flock team will not sit well with Timbers fans. Coach Kerry Tanner said afterward that the team underestimated the Flock.

"The lads thought we could just go in and blow them away," Tanner said. "Obviously, we're going to have to earn our way through to the next stage."

This was a hard day for the Fmjphoenix teams, as only the Spraatan Tigers looked even remotely like a competitive team from Fmjphoenix, gaining a draw against Woodstock Wild, 2-2. From there, it gets ugly. The Alabaster Lions lost to Iskara Daii by the score 2-4. The favorite team of Fmjphoenix, aside form the Vikings, the Vanguard Eagles could not get anything going against the Yeaddin Owls FC, as they lost 0-4. But worst of all the Capitol Hariots looked more like 12 year olds playing for the first time as they were utterly destroyed by the Strike FC 1-7. Hopefully matchday 3 will bring better fortunes for the Fmjphoenix teams.

Vanguard Eagles:
0-1-1 | Goals For: 2 | Goals Against: 6

Spraatan Tigers:
1-1-0 | Goals For: 4 | Goals Against: 3

Capitol Hariots:
0-0-2 | Goals For: 1 | Goals Against: 8

Alabaster Lions:
0-1-1 | Goals For: 3 | Goals Against: 5

Deuces wild for Woodstock; Timbers crash

For the perennial SFC champion Woodstock Wild, their 2-2 draw against the Spraatan Tigers of Fmjphoenix's domestic league was a missed opportunity to clinch a spot in the knockout stages of the inaugural AO Champions League. With a 1-0 win in the first match, against Hubana City, the Wild had a chance to distance themselves from the Group B pack. At 1-1-0, four points, the Wild is even with the Tigers for first place in the group with a match against Nidola FC.

Meanwhile, the Portland Timbers are still trying to shake a reputation as a talented team that comes up small in the clutch, but they stumbled in their biggest chance to erase that reputation, falling 3-1 to Dinamo Neodzki and putting them in a three way tie for the second knockout stage berth. Portland (0-1-1, one point) will need to win and will need massive help to advance.

A win by Portland combined with a Dinamo Neodzki loss sends the Timbers into the knockout stages. A draw between the two teams and a Portland win by three goals or more also sends the team through to the next round. If Dinamo Neodzki wins, they advance with Jhanna United.

"We're going to have to rely on someone else's good fortune to get in and that's not going to help us much," Coach Kerry Tanner said. "First thing's first, we have to take care of our own end. We can't control what other people do."

For Woodstock, it's much simpler: Win and they're in, and that's just the way team captain Bobby Convey likes it.

"We control our own destiny and that's all you can ask for in a pressurized situation like the Champions League," Convey said. "If we take care of what we need to take care of, we'll have a good chance."

Scelestus United's Woes Continue Outside Big Pimento

Scelestus United, Big Pimento's most dominant team for almost the entire last decade, continues to struggle in international play, as they've been only able to muster up one point in two matches. After a 6-3 loss to Starblaydi offensive juggernauts, Iskara Daii, Scelestus came back with a draw 1-1 against Farca United. Scelestus United can still make the second round, a victory over the Alabaster Lions coupled with a loss or draw by Farca United will pave the road to qualification for the Pimento side.

Flock's Stock Drops

Scelestus United are not the only Big Pimento team to be struggling against some of the other titans from the better funded leagues in Atlantian Oceania, as the Calista Flock also find themselves with just one point after two matchdays. Bong Jong-Il scored the lone goal for the Flock, and he'll need to catch fire to push his team into the next round. A victory against tomorrow's opponents, Dinamo Neodzki, will ensure the team goes through.

Another Big Pimento Team, Another Team With One Point

Pimento City FC also have just one point to show for their first two matchdays, but their situation is a bit bleaker than those of their national counterparts. After holding Vilitian side Marine Coast United to a scoreless draw, they've kept their chances of qualification alive. The Flock will have to beat bottom feeders Fresan City by a good number of goals and hope for a Marine Coast United loss, since the only way Calista will go through is on goal difference, provided the aforementioned scenario occurs.

Jokerit Kjellberg Enjoying Success

Believed by many to be the pre-tournament weakest team to be representing Big Pimento, Jokerit Kjellberg are putting their countrymates to shame with their solid performance. They're currently in a tie for the group lead with the Tuncastle Rovers, both of which having equal numbers of points (4), goal difference (2) and goals for (3). Jokerit Kjellberg currently sits on top of the group on virtue of alphabetical order, but that will likely be shaken up as they'll have to face the Tuncastle Rovers next. A win or a draw by Jokerit will see them through, a loss and they'll have to hold their breath and see what happens in the match against Arcticala Inlet and Parkville.

Strike Explode over Capitol, Owls Soar

Strike FC recorded the biggest win in the brief history of the AO champions league with their 7-1 demolishin of Fmjphoenix's Capitol Hariots. Jungle Strike, led by Vilitan Captain Santo Kecker, coped well with the loss of starlet Inaki Soler, who moved to Yeaddin Owls in the biggest recorded transfer in Vilitan Domestic history. Eauz'ian goalkeeper Michel Rousoi was unsure of his availability for the match, as he is not of Atlantian Oceania birth, until he was cleare prior to the competition as he has been playing in Vilita over 5 seasons, giving him Vilitan second nationality according to SI's CM/FM Codebook. It is unknown whether or not players not of Atlantian Oceanian nationality are allowed to participate in the competition.

Soler made an instant impact in Yeaddin, knocking home a goal either side of the half as the Owls beat up on more Fmjphoenix opposition, recorded a comfortable 4-0 win over Vanguard Eagles. Like Strike, the Owls find themselves atop their group at this stage of the competition, and watching their nemesis' such as Iskara Daii in Group H, who while unbeaten, have had a bit of a defensive farce in the opening two matches and are showing signs that either Strike or Yeaddin could be considered favorites at this point.

Eagles and Tigers go through

Out of the four Fmjphoenix teams that went to compete in the AO Champions League, the Vanguard Eagles and Spraatan Tigers are the two teams that had a record good enough to go on, with the Eagles winning their last match against Fresan Vally United 3-1 and the Spraatan Tigers drawing 1-1 against Hubana City to go on. The Capitol Hariots lost their 3rd match in a row to Bessburg 2-0 and the Alabaster Lions barely lost 1-0 against Scelestus Iunctus.

The draw to see where the Eagles and Tigers get placed against will be tommorow. Stay tuned to see how much farther they progress.

Vanguard Eagles:
1-1-1 | Goals For: 5 | Goals Against: 7

Spraatan Tigers:
1-2-0 | Goals For: 5 | Goals Against: 4

Capitol Hariots:
0-0-3 | Goals For: 1 | Goals Against: 10

Alabaster Lions:
0-1-2 | Goals For: 3 | Goals Against: 6

Wild wins group; Timbers out of running

While the Woodstock Wild was winning its game 4-3 to advance to the knockout stages of the AO Champions League as Group B champions, the Portland Timbers were packing their bags to return to the Iron Bowl after they were eliminiated following a 2-2 draw to Jhanna United.

The Wild (2-1-0, seven points) defeated Nidola FC from Aquiliana in their third and final group stage match while Fmjphoenix's Spraatan Tigers drew 1-1 with Chacor's Hubana City to finish second in the group. The Portland Timbers closed out the group stage with a 2-2 draw against Starblaydi team Jhanna United.

"We did what we were expecting to do," Wild Coach David Bostwick said. "We have a team that can now compete on the international stage and we proved that."

Meanwhile, Portland's woes in big matches continued despite the change of coaches to former national team goalkeeper Kerry Tanner. Tanner said he was going to focus much of his effort on getting his team ready to play the big matches, but acknowledged that "it's a long road ahead.

"This team just seems to find a way to lose the big ones," Tanner said. "We should have a mentality that we can win the big matches, but we need to make some changes psychologically in what we do as a team. The fact is that we're good enough to win, but it seems as though the players don't think they can win."

The Timbers (0-2-1, two points) said they would concentrate on the NS Champions League matches since they were able to advance on aggregate in that.

"We've still got some games coming up against some great international teams," goalkeeper Troy Perkins said. "Perhaps we'll be able to redeem ourselves a little bit."

-------------------Yeaddin Owls have consistently been one of the best teams in Vilita. However, it was a major upset when Yeaddin pipped Marine Coast United to the inagural Vilitan League Title. Marine got one over on Yeaddin though at the end of the season, when Marine out-dueled Yeaddin to the Tropical Trophy, played between the Stellar Division Champions and Vilitan Cup Champions at the completion of each season. Yeaddin were unable to qualify for the Trophy in Season 2 after a 2-3 defeat at the hands of Tivali City. Jonathon Stott and Nigel Chapman put the Owls 2-0 up at the half, but Tivali fought back and upset the Two-Time League champions in their only Vilitan Cup final appearance. The Owls looked ready to face Marine Coast in the Season Three Cup final, before a 2-1 second leg defeat to Cednia Beach saw Yeaddin out.

-------------------Yeaddin Owls finished a remarkable season 10 with a record 24 games unbeaten in all competitions, including their 16 game winning streak midseason, along with a record 70 Stellar Division Points, 76 Stellar Division Goals Scored and just 16 conceded, as well as the all-time record 7-1 victory over Tivali City to add to their record books. The title was the Owls 6th consecutive championship, and 8th overall.

::Club Records::

LARGEST VICTORY:
( 7-1 ) v. Tivaliy City - Vilitan Stellar (S1)

LARGEST DEFEAT:
( 1-5 ) v. Strike FC - Vilitan Stellar (S3)

HIGHEST SCORING MATCH:

CONSECUTIVE UNBEATEN:
( 24 ) - Season 10

CONSECUTIVE DEFEATS:
( 3 ) - Season 7

CONSECUTIVE WINLESS:
( 4 ) - Season 2

----------------Yeaddin find themselves in the record books for two of the most lopsided victories in the history of the Vilitan Stellar Division. The 6-0 Victor over Inland Peaks in Season One still stands as the most lopsided match in Vilitan History. Yeaddin were 4-0 up after just 25 minutes, before Jonathon Stott added 2 more in the last 15 minutes of the match to complete his 3-Goal Performance. It was also one of the last matches for German Salomon at the club, his 26th minute goal one of his last before his transfer to Kingsford Club Elders. The 6-0 Result has only been duplicated once since then, in Cednia Beach's 6-0 victory over Lopinka in season three. However, Cednia had the luxury of 2 Penalty Kicks in the opening 15 minutes, after Lopinka had their goalkeeper sent off. The 1-5 Defeat at Strike goes down as the second most lopsided scoreline in Stellar Division history. The Owls had taken an early lead, before Serge DuPont equalized for Strike with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half. DuPont lit up the stage in the second half, with 2 quick goals for himself, then setting up another for a teamate to put Strike ahead 4-1. The fifth goal was gifted to Strike after DuPont's shot was deflected in for a Yeaddin own goal.[center]
