Cosumar.
The word "rival" isn't one that should be thrown around lightly. In order for one to be your rival, you must be at around the same level as them. If one side has dominated, then it is not a true rivalry; only in a give-and-take scenario can the loaded word be used. That being said, there is only one nation that fits the label to a t in the minds of Chromatik fans: The Vanquishers of Cosumar.
It all started in AOCAF 50, the Golden Anniversary of the AOCAF. After a Round of 16 finish in the recent Cup of Harmony 66, all eyes turned to the Round of 16. It was then that the two nations met for the first time, and Chromatika lost to Cosumar by a score of 2-2, 2-3 on penalty kicks as Gabriella Antonio cemented her place as one of the scapegoats of Chromatik history when it comes to penalty kicks. Winterfyll beat Thorben out on a shootout remembered for brilliant saves from both until Antonio whiffed the deciding one directly at Winterfyll. Although Valanora defeated Cosumar the very next match, also in PKs, it was a bitter loss for a nation that had lost to Fluvique in penalties in the recent Cup of Harmony.
It wasn't until the Quarterfinals of World Cup 76 - the one that resulted in a fourth place finish for the Chromatiks, their best finish ever - that the team got to return the favor. Despite using all three substitutions and then losing Jillian Nier to a concussion right at the end of regular time, the Chromatiks rallied behind Antonio playing at goal, and Keira Andisori showed the world her emergence by getting one past Winterfyll two minutes before the game would go to penalties. It is still considered one of the greatest matches in Chromatik history, and Andisori and Antonio's heroics are remembered fondly by fans.
The next time the two teams met was in the Group Stage of World Cup 77. Heralded as the tiebreaker after the two previous results, and Cosumarites still bitter over their defeat, it was heralded as a must-see event. However, Thorben and Winterfyll completely dominated the match, and the score ended nil-nil. The Chromatiks - due to a loss to Bonesea - lost out to the Vanquishers in terms of seeding and didn't make it out of groups, but Cosumar lost in the Round of Sixteen as well. This match isn't remembered by many fans, and in their eyes, the series is still even.
The two nations haven't faced each other since. In World Cup 78, held in Cosumar and Bonesea, the Chromatiks were put into a group hosted by Bonesea, and fell in the Quarterfinals, while Cosumar fell flat in the Quarterfinals of their side as well. This puts the all-time record at 1-1-1, with Chromatika having the bigger win, but Cosumar having the win in penalties.
With the relationship between the two countries warming up since the Rainbow Revolution - Sybill and Niro are playing in Cosumar's domestic league and Cormak Lethbridge and Gabriella Antonio are actively dating - the rivalry has had room to blossom. The next time these two teams meet, though? Gloves are definitely off. With both sides now among the Top Ten teams of the world, expect hard and beautiful football if they are to meet again. |

STARBLAYDIA:
A long and storied history that is almost too long to tell here. The short version is that the two nations developed in the footballing world at roughly the same rate for a time..and then came World Cup XXIX. With the West and East sides of the Be(c/k)k at their highest point of political tension, and anti-the-other-guys riots in both Emberton and Jhanna, the sky and purple clashed in the quarter-finals. One disputed (read: blatantly offside) goal later, and "The Casaran Job" became etched in history. Other notable flashpoints include AOCAF VII (aka Two Nil In South Osettia) and World Cup XLI (which happened mere hours after Krytenia seceded from Starblaydi rule. Blame the Domasca woman). Fun fact: Starblaydia always wear their change colours of purple against the Kryties. Even at home.
AUDIOSLAVIA
Audioslavia have a strange pathological hatred of the Krytenians. Nobody knows why. Let's be honest though, this is basically Jaffacake vs Niblick on the pitch. Hell, in World Cup LXXIII, the two men actually were in charge of their respective sides. Fun fact: Audioslavians consider Krytenia as exactly one round worse than them.
THE KRY-SARZ-REJIS TRIANGLE OF PAIN
Back in the day, there were three rules. 1. Rejistania always beat Sarzonia. 2. Sarzonia always beat Krytenia. 3. Krytenia always beat Rejistania.
Obviously when any two of these sides met, there would always be one trying to upset the apple cart. Fun fact: The phrase "like Sarzonia on penalties" is a Krytenian idiom describing something destined to fail. |

The Equestrian States doesn't really have any active rivals these days, though the Ponies' historic rivals include Western Cuba, Free Republics, Ko-oren, and Northern Sunrise Islands. A friendly rivalry with Bears Armed also existed for a dozen or so cycles. |
