The Democratic States of Vista Buena
The Democratic States of Vista Buena is a nation dedicated to basic democratic and human rights for its citizens, as well as providing a strong economy for its citizens. The nation gained independence one year after the Villa Accords was signed between Vista Buena and its former colonial power, Boa Vista (OOC: I used to play as Boa Vista. The nation is now defunct).
History
The Southwestern coast of what is now Vista Buena was discovered 150 years ago by Johannes Marijnen, who led a naval expedition to discover a new, quicker trading route between his nation and other nations. The expedition took a wrong turn, and arrived at a place now called Fountain Cove, which is about 30 miles east of the current capital city of the nation, Victorsville. The expedition team, starving and deprived of water, was able to find food and water there.
Excited by the discovery of what could potentially be a midway stop for trading vessels, Marijnen reported back to his nation's government, who duly set about plans to colonize the area. 5 years after the discovery, Johannes Marijnen led a colonial force to colonize this part of the coast. An outpost, called Bloemenbroek, was established close to Fountain Cove.
Between the time Marijnen discovered Fountain Cove and a colonizing expedition arrived at Fountain Cove, explorer David Raffles, during a naval mapping expedition, discovered a natural lake about 10 miles inland from what is now Liffey Harbour. Raffles duly reported his findings, and about 2 years after Bloenenbroek was established, a farming/manufacturing colony called Newbank was established.
The two colonies expanded as the years went by, and they inevitably came in contact with each other 50 years after the two colonies were established. Hostilities ensued as the two colonies' mother country began to send forces to capture each other's colony. The Kolonieoorlog (Colony War, as Bloenenbroek people calls it) lasted for 10 years, when both Bloenenbroek and Newbank (by now renamed Millbank) broke away from their mother countries. A tenuous peace was restored after the Republic of Millbank offered a peace treaty to Bloenenbroek.
The peace did not last long, however, as Bloenenbroek broke the peace treaty 6 years after it was signed. This time, however, the war lasted for only 6 months, as Newbank defeated Bloenenbroek in a resounding victory. Bloenenbroek was renamed Victorsville upon Bloenenbroek's surrender (Bloenenbroek is still the name of a ward in Victorsville today). Peace was then restored for 78 years, where the Dutch culture that is Bloenenbroek and the English culture that is Millbank mixed, and Chinese immigrants came, adding to the present ethnic makeup of Vista Buena.
78 years after Millbank claimed control over Bloenenbroek, the Republic of Millbank, by now a thriving trading nation, was invaded by Boa Vista. The war lasted for three years, in which Millbank fought valiantly through guerilla warfare. In the end, Boa Vista defeated Millbank, and a protectorate was established. The Protectorate of Millbank, under the control of Boa Vista, was renamed the Protectorate of Vista Buena, and expanded its territories significantly.
Under this administration, the territory flourished and prospered, and new cities were established. Vista Buena gained its independence after signing the Villa Accords with Boa Vista, with the transfer of power taking place a year afterwards.

Government
The country is a multiparty democratic republic. The country is separated into three branches of power: legislative, executive, and judicial.
The Legislative Branch is embodied by the State Parliament, which consists of The State Advisory Council and the Chamber of Representatives.
The State Advisory Council has power to veto legislations and override Presidential vetoes in certain circumstances, and mainly advise the Chamber of Representatives and the State President on affairs of state, among other responsibilities. Members are chosen via preference voting. 3 Councilmen are allotted per Province, and voting takes place every 5 years.
The Chamber of Representatives is the legislative power center of the State Parliament. It has the power to make and pass laws, as well as powers to impeach the State President, and veto override powers. Of the 500 members, 480 are chosen via First Past The Post voting, with the rest distributed as Equalization seats via Preference Vote counts. Voting takes place every 5 years.
The Executive Branch consists of the State President, who Assisted by an appointed Prime Minister chosen from the leader of the largest party/coalition in the State Parliament, upon advice of The State Advisory Council. The State President has all executive powers in the nation, and is elected via first past the post voting. Voting takes place every 5 years.
The Judicial branch consists of the State Court of Final Appeals, which handles all final Civil and Criminal cases, after they have gone through all other legal processes, and the State Court on Constitutional Law, which handles all legal cases on constitutional affairs, and controls the State Bar Association (which accredits Criminal Attorneys) and the State Law Society (which accredits Civil Attorneys).
The State Court of Final Appeals consist of 11 State Justice appointed via decree of the State President, with the candidates chosen by the State President and passed without objection by both branches of the State Parliament.
The State Court on Constitutional Law consists of 9 State Arbiters appointed by the State President. Both branches of the State Parliament have veto powers.
