The Eastern Westlands of Sorthern Northland
Background
(ooc: As far as I know there is no and has never been an NS nation called Northland. If there is/was then I have nothing to do with it and the Northland state talked about in relation to Sorthern Northland is a purely IC one.)
The state of Sorthern Northland came about when the tiny Northland province called Southern Northland, broke away from the imperialist Northland in a civil war that arose due what Southern Northlanders believed to be exploitation of workers in order for the state to produce and sell alcohol internationally to line the pockets of fat cat directors. Socialist leaders and rebels took control of the provinces infrastructure and declared it's independence in a bloodless but very drunken coup. It has been said that the Imperialist forces were scared away because of the drunkenness of the rebels although experts in history have denied this could have been a possibility. This revolt soon became known as the November Revolution and the Drunk Revolution. One of the famous features of Sorthern Northland is it's name which it is claimed came about due to the drunken state of the declaration of independence speech in which Southern was mispronounced as Sorthern. Since that revolution similar revolutions spread across Northland until almost most of Northland became part of Sorthern Northland. Despite the Sorthern part of the name denoting that it is the Southern part of Northland the name has stuck and now applies to the far north of Northland as well as the East, West and the South.
In it's early days as Sorthern Northland the nation saw many "wars", most of them occurring when someone spilt someone else's drink. However by far and away the most deadly so far was the war for recognition. After being formed due to be being so small, very few people outside of the country knew it existed so two separate tourist boards were set up to spread the word. The Tourist Board of Southern Northland and The Tourist Office of Southern Northland. It was from one of these that the nations motto, "We exist! Honest!" was formed although no one know which office thought of it as both claimed responsibility and went to war over it. After 13 hours and 6 casualties, three of them to household pets a truce was called and the two factions joined to form the The Tourist Conference for Southern Northland. From a troubled beginning this once small nation rapidly grew invading much of it's former master Northland, although only the southern parts as the northern parts are largely inhospitable and of no use. Sorthern Northland has always been the biggest attraction for tourist visiting Northland and was able to survive purely upon the income tourists bought in it's early days as a nation.

Government
The country is a socialist style republic. Voting for parliment takes place every five years. Voting takes place with members of the public voting for an MP (Member of Parliament) for their local area (constituency). Each elected MP is then given a seat in the Parliament. Presidential elections take place at the same time with the public each voting for their preferred presidential candidate. The President of the country is also given the role of Mayor of Beningrad although this is mainly ceremonial. Voting in each election takes place on a one person one vote system. Ever since independence the leaders of the November Revolution have been the controlling party in parliament with their leader Ben O'Bagels having always been President. They have never had any real challenge to this position enjoying almost universal approval.

Natural hazards: Flooding is often a risk along river banks and the coastal areas.
Sport
Sorthern Northland is well known for it's love of the Gaelic Games of Hurling and Gaelic Football although as of yet it doesn't compete internationally in these sports. Cricket is also popular but again not played on an international level. Sorthern Northland does compete on a world stage in rugby being ranked fourth in the world, and also has an up and coming national football team. |
