The Republic of Tachbe
On the eve of the formation of the Republic of Tachbe the constitution was signed by the towns of the island of Tachbe. What used to be a lose association of towns and villages (former colonies of numerous nations) formed a new nation in what would be its capital city, Tabla. The islands values are that of peaceful freedom. It is fairly neutral but has a small, though highly trained, defence force based on a conscription. As well as the island itself the central government also has numerous small territories in other locations, the government itself is highly centralised.
Religions are not common though not banned on the island. There were multiple languages spoken but a national languages was imposed as the only official language but the older forms are still practiced.. Due to it's primarily sea fairing society the life round the docks led to the seagull being adopted as the national symbol. ?Liberty & Loyalty? become the national motto as the people seek to strike a balance between their freedoms and duties.
The laws are clear and there is no death penalty, rehabilitation is always used opposed to jail times, which can be very long. The government is currently run by a coalition of 3 parties, mainly liberals. There are numerous different parties on the island and elections can be difficult to predict because of it. The countries parliament is very clear of corruption and the military has very little influence in decision making.
Once taking a neutral isolationists policy the island was successful but not booming. It revised its constitution, joined the UN and revitalised its defences as it took on new policies.
It took to colonialism due to a rapid population boom and it spread out over regions taking in new cultures. Its centralised government delegated power of this empire into a federation and the nation weren?t through more revitalisation. It now takes an active part in international politics and is a leader in regional activities which includes helping to set up a defence alliance, a far cry from its days of neutrality.
Most people welcome the change now they have a voice in the world though some are not, some see some actions as unjust and some colonialists wish to split off from the federation. In recent years some areas have gained sovereignty but still rely on federal economic and military aid.
The currency is often changing. Past currencies included the Tachy, Elspa, Alican.
In the areas that gained sovereignty Tachbe?s currency is often still used even if its as a second currency, but with the advent of a regional currency the split off nations are seeking to gain independence from Tabla in more ways.
