Mark Carlson was reclining aboard the Lidst just enjoying a relaxing day. The latest geological surveys met with the approval of the Science Academy in Woodstock and he was now going to take some time to enjoy a few days away from the hectic pace of research.
Suddenly, his silent reverie was snapped.
"Captain, we're reading a land mass off the starboard bow!"
"A land mass? What do you mean?"
"It looks like an island of some sort."
"There's not supposed to be an island here. Let's go check it out."
The Lidst sped toward the new land mass. All the while, Carlson and his crew were taking notes for the flyover. Carlson picked up his CB.
"Lidst to Science Academy command, come in."
"Command, go ahead."
"We've just detected a land mass off our starboard bow." Carlson read off the estimated latitude and longitude of the island.
"We've also just received reports of two other islands being discovered; one in the near vicinity of that island and the other one along the opposite coast."
"Recommendations?"
"We're going to survey the islands and determine if they're inhabited. If not, we may be able to colonize the islands and relieve some of the overcrowding on the mainland."
[OOC: I just RP'd discovery of one of the three islands but I'm RPing that the other two islands were already discovered to save space and typing time. If that's a problem, please let me know in a PM Vilita and I'll add the other two. This is supposed to be the biggest of the islands.] |

With the discovery of three islands near Sarzonia, Parliament and cabinet officials engaged in debate about what to do with the new lands.
"We should construct military bases there," Vice President for Defense Terrence Wilson said. "If a foreign power should take those islands, they could base an invasion of Sarzonia from them."
"We have an overcrowding problem here, don't forget that," Speaker of the House of Delegates Josh Williams said. "We should use the islands to alleviate that population boom."
"Are you nuts," Wilson bellowed. "We need that space for military purposes."
"You can have it be both, you know," Senate President Pro Tempore Karen Beltran said.
Both men grimaced. They had been so adamant about one or the other they forgot about the prospect of compromise.
"Yes, of course," Williams said.
Wilson thought for a moment. He still wanted the entire land for the bases, but Parliament was proceeding to debate. Both houses passed a motion to colonize the three islands and build bases on all of them.
President Mike Sarzo signed the legislation and announced that the two western islands would become the 23rd state in Sarzonia.
"We have decided to name the western state New Praetonia in honor of our close allies. The Eastern island will be named New Granzi."
The announcment met with enormous applause from the joint session of Parliament. Even Wilson clapped, albeit half-heartedly. |
