The Topic in Question: Economics In AO
THS Suggestions:
I. A concentrated Military Market, for selling/buying of Arms and Armament, along with other equipment to wage war. Much like the numerous 'Shop Fronts' in the actual NS forums, but cumulatively collected in a seperate forum all these storefronts are in place.
II. A loose Economic Market, for selling/buying domestic/technological/non-military goods. Can act as a stabalizing force in times of crises for nations(severe drought, natural distaster, all RPed of course.) in which, with funds from the GDP calculator, a nation may buy and sell goods.
III. Systems of Trade could be along verbal routes, which are unstandardized, or standardized forms which a member may make availiable for pasting if another nation requires materiel, eg.:
Items to be bought[x] or sold[]? What Items? Wheat( x money per metric tonne(PMT))[x] Barley( x money PMT)[]
and so on. it may be tedious to make the standardized form once, but once its done, it will be quite useful to those who choose to use one.
any suggestions? your own ideas? |

Sounds like a good idea, however I have a few questions. Who will decide what is worth what? I also believe that even with the GDP calculator, some nations will give outrageous sums for military equipment, which they could not possibly have. I think maybe a small group would have to run this, to make sure everyone follows the rules and to make a standardized set of trade sanctions and values. |

rules, or at least guildlines, would be nice for those of us still getting our feet wet in grand scheme of this RP world.

Well, considering some nations have massif populations and hence GDPs, it is clear we cannot rely on that for balanced play. The map process serves as a good example. I think every new nation gets a spot on the map and starts in AO at level 0 income. We determine whatever amount level 0 will be.
For example, every nation starts with 100 million dollars to spend invest in anything they want. Every year, a year being equal to 365 hrs(2 weeks), your revenues are recalculated according to your investments and you now have that much more to spend.
Nation X buys transport to deliver goods for export. Transport costs $10AO, every year, transport adds 10%($1) to Nation X revenues.
We could categorize all nations in the region by forte. Nojika-best guns Novus Atlantica-best engines/mechanics Dartace-best aircraft
...and so on. that way, nations will be encouraged to purchase from other nations.
We can also start a thread listing the regions nations and their monetary value on a price per bond basis. That way, nations can buy other nations bonds, or their own, and those bonds increase/decrease in value according to the nation's successes and failures.
The same can be done for a stockmarket. We make up a list of items and attribute values to them and just fluctuate the prices weekly(or byweekly), using game events as a reference point maybe.
I strongly suggest no further wars, acts of aggression, incidents or what have you, be initiated until we have a functional economic system as well as a common understanding of what we are doing |

What about insider trading? Unless we find some randomized system to base stock prices on, leaving it in control of a nation in this region would give them a distinct advantage over others. Perhaps find a website with information that we can use to make good investments, and research our companies, that will give us a report to calculate it on.
(Wish I would have learned the harder parts of HTML and perl and such so I could make a website to do it. Maybe someone around here has enough knowledge to do something of that nature, or atleast find a site that can help us along.) |

I believe it is the right of a nation that has been around for so long that they have 2 billion people and a Frightening economy to have more money to spend on products than a nation that was just created, has 5 million people and an Imploded economy.

Well, my calculator isn't working right now so I'll just have to post Rendition and Me up here a little later.
I don't agree with letting everyone start out on an equal footing, because I believe with seniority should come power and leadership.
I've been playing this game long enough to know how to run my nations, and I have made all the right decisions to make my massive economy. Therefore, if we are to incorporate our actual nations, and not just completely unbased RP, we she used a system ranked on a nations current status. |

Ah here we go
Abattoir
Population: 2,042,000,000 Civil Rights: Excellent Economy: Frightening GDP per Capita: $35,000 GDP: $71,470,000,000,000 National Budget: $40,523,490,000,000
Percentage of GDP Spent on Defense: 9.64% Percentage of Budget Spent on Defense: 17% Military Budget: $6,888,993,300,000
Enough for: 221,511 F-15Es, or... 344,449 Su-34s, or... 366,435 F-16s, or... 626,272 MiG 29s, or... 1,602,091 M1A2 Abrams, or... 2,296,331 T-90s, or... 11,755,961,262 M-16s, or... 22,963,311,000 AK47s
The Puppet State of Rendition
Population: 1,836,000,000 Civil Rights: Very Good Economy: Frightening GDP per Capita: $35,000 GDP: $64,260,000,000,000 National Budget: $34,395,036,480,000
Percentage of GDP Spent on Defense: 9.1% Percentage of Budget Spent on Defense: 17% Military Budget: $5,847,156,201,600
Enough for: 188,011 F-15Es, or... 292,357 Su-34s, or... 311,018 F-16s, or... 531,559 MiG 29s, or... 1,359,803 M1A2 Abrams, or... 1,949,052 T-90s, or... 9,978,082,255 M-16s, or... 19,490,520,672 AK47s
If you look there, I have an extra 30 trillion dollars I can spend on whatever I please, because my economy is so high. This should be used to decide whatever players can purchase or anything of that matter, and we should designate an area to keep up with whom spends what amount, and to make sure someone doesn't overspend themselves (especially useful if we were to go to war again). |

Well yes, I can see how that could make the forum a little more interesting, but as for total RP purposes, I think it would just clutter the forums. |
