"And welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your Host Denis Rainy. The groups and fixtures for the tournament have been released."

A graphic containing the following information was displayed

QUOTE
Day One:
Andossa Se Mitrin Vega v. Bazalonia

Day Two:
Lamoni v. Bazalonia

Day Three:

Bazalonia v. Az-Cz

Day Four:
Bazalonia v. Dorian and Sonya

Day 5:
Bye

"The first up match against the Hoop Dragons of Andossa Se Mitrin Vega, being the top ranked team in the region the Dribbling Bazalopes will have their work cut out for them against the Hoop Dragons but it should not be a whitewash. In their first AORBC the Dribbling Bazalopes climbed to the quarter-finals only to be knocked out by the Lamonian team. 9 points was the difference. The Dribbling Bazalopes will be looking for a semi-final birth and the Hoop Dragons will be the team for the Dribbling Bazalopes to beat."

"The second match will be up against the Lamonian Hawks, losing to them in the quarter finals the Dribbling Bazalopes will face staunch ally and friend. Despite losing it seems the teams left on amicable terms. The question is now, can the Dribbling Bazalopes take a win against this important team? Only time will tell. We give the Dirbbling Bazalopes 50-50 on this one"

"The third will be against the only unranked team in the group Az-Cz. They will have a chance to settle down and improve themselves during the tournament but so will the Dribbling Bazalopes, expect a reasonably easy win."

"The fourth and last match we play before our bye on the 5th matchday will be against the Mystics of Dorian & Sonya. Ranked 8th we expect to win but Dorian & Sonya could very well pull out a come from behind win."

"This is Denis Rainy and you have been watching the BazSports Coverage of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship."

Coach: Mk-Mnty

The coach of the Sandcaster Sorcerers from the - Basketball Association, the current defending champions. He believes in a complete full court press style of basketball, which is why he chosen to coach the team. There are other coaches with more experience, but the only chance Az-cz has to win is to press the other team into the ground, so that's what they will attempt.

Players:

PG:
Gy-Pt 5'1 140 lbs
Age: 26
Team: Lost Soul Minotaurs

Gy-Pt is known as the best on the ball defender in the -League. He is incredibly quick and uses that to try to get to the whole. He has a good all around game, but can struggle against players as fast as him.

SG:
Rn-Mndez 5'5 140 lbs
Age: 21
Team: Pyramid Dragons

Rn-Mndez is the sharpshooter of the team. He can drill shots from anywhere over half-court. He is a decent defender, but needs help getting open for his shots.

SF: Sh-Bob 5'7 150 lbs
Age: 25
Team: Sandcaster Sorcerers

Sh-Bob is a balanced player. He is an incredibly intelligent player so he can often rebound against taller players and draws many charges to help his team. He is a brilliant part of the press because he knows always where to be.

PF: Dwaty Jones 6'6 220 lbs
Age: 23
Team: Necropolis Mummies

Due to the lack of height there aren't that many ethnic Az-czzers on the team, but all of the players were born in Az-cz. Dwaty Jones tries to do everything for the team. He doesn't have any incredible advantages, but he also doesn't have any weaknesses.

C: Julio Barthez 6'9 245 lbs
Age: 27
Team: Castleview Goblins

Barthez is a patroller of the paint. He isn't that tall but he has incredible strength that helps him battle against taller players. He has a suprising touch for a big man.

Bench:

PG: Duk-Fn 5'2 130 lbs
Age: 30
Team: Necropolis Mummies

Duk-Fn's role on the team is to be the shooting PG. If more outside shooting is required from the PG spot, then he is called upon to play.

G: Je-Do 5'4 140 lbs
Age: 29
Team: Sandcaster Sorcerers

Je-Do can play either guard position. He specializes in defense and can really play havoc against other teams guards. He is the starting PG for his team, but will back up both positions in this tournament.

SG: Ap-Or 5'4 145 lbs
Age: 28
Team: Sandcaster Sorcerers

Ap-Or starts along Je-Do for Sandcaster. He is an incredible slashing player, and considered by most to be the best dunker in the -BA.

SF: Kiz-Fa 5'6 160 lbs
Age: 29
Team: Castleview Goblins

Kiz-Fa is another solid small forward. He doesn't specialize in any one area, but generally can listen to what the coach needs and provide that. His biggest weakness is that his shot is streaky. When he's feeling it he's dangerous to the opponent, but when he's off he's dangerous to his team.

SF: Mk-Fk 5'5 145 lbs
Age: 27
Team: Olympus Gods

Mk-Fk is another player on this team for purposes of shooting. He isn't expected to see much court time except when Az-cz is trying to rally from huge deficits.

PF: Rt-Lng 5'7 175 lbs
Age: 25
Team: Lost Soul Minotaurs

Rt-Lng is a player that Az-cz uses when they are trying to draw the other team away from the basket. He has a solid shot and a good court sense, such that he has to be guarded all the way out to three point line. This can free up other players, so is his use.

PF: Brethur Knee 6'9 235 lbs
Age: 28
Team: Pyramid Dragons

Knee's role on this team is for defensive and rebounding strength inside. His offense isn't as strong as other players but he is a strong defender.

C: Eafo McMichaels 7'4 270 lbs
Age: 26

Eafo McMichaels is far and away the tallest player on the Az-cz team. Like many players of his height he has some maneuverability problems, but he is a strong defender, has good stamina, and is a big help to the press. However his awkwardness can cause him problems at the offensive end.

Az-cz enters Basketball competition

With their strong performance in the Baptism of Fire, and a desire to establish stronger ties, both sporting and non sporting with our regional allies, Az-cz has decided to enter the Atlanitan Oceania Regional Basketball Championships.
Although there is a 10-team professional basketball league in Az-cz, known as the -BA or - Basketball Association, it is not a huge sport in Az-cz. It comes in below the native Az-czid sports, naturally, but also ranks below soccer, American Football or gridball, Hockey, and even Curling. The reason for this has to do with the natural body build of Az-czzers. Being a race of short people makes it hard to compete with other teams. A women's team would be more physically able to compete, but the numbers aren't there yet for women's team in most non Az-czid sports. With a full 75% of Az-czid girls competing in Kleptodance at the highschool or university levels, there isn't much room for other sports.
So we'll soldier on with our men's team. Looking at our opponent we are disappointed in the draw. Our opening match is against Dorian and Sonya. This is the lowest ranking team in our group, and perhaps if we caught them later we might expect to take them down. But seeing as they have previous experience and we don't, they ought to be viewed as having the advantage. Maybe our unorthodox press will suprise them.
Next we have a bye before playing Bazalonia. We admire Bazalonia as a country and expect a fun game, but we don't expect to beat them. As they are the third lowest ranked team in the group that's unfortunate.
Things get more difficult against Lamoni, a team that advanced rather deep into the tournament. Finally we end with Andossa Se Mitrin Vega. They are currently the top ranked team in the region, so we're not expecting too much luck there either.
In general we're not overly optimistic about winning, but we will play hard, have fun, gain experience and hopefully make friends. And with this one behind us hopefully we will have more success in the future.

D&S Ready To Use Size to Dominate - And Maybe Win A Title Too

The Mystics and the Lady Mystics touched down in the Socialist Union for the 3rd AORBC.

Last time around, we were the newcomers here and struggled mightily on the men’s side. But with the competition involving no less than four legitimate contenders in Lamoni, Khazaron, ASMV, and Myrtannia, we didn’t expect a whole lot. And guess what? All four of them are back again.

So let us now take a hard look at the Men’s tourney and see what it will take to advance.

Group A
Andossa Se Mitrin Vega (1)
Lamoni (4)
Bazalonia (5)
Dorian and Sonya (8)
Az-Cz (-)

Doesn’t look real good right off the top.

ASMV. Number 1 in the region even though they haven’t won a title yet. They can score a ton of points in a hurry with their two big scorers and the big man that wakes up every once in a while. We played them close once last tourney. We will be lucky to do that again.

Lamoni. They may be ranked only 4th, but they might just be the best team in the region. They have the best player in 6’4 Center, Hugh Humber. The little-big man will be hard to control. This will be another tough game for us.

Bazalonia. How did they get ranked 5th? Hmmm. This is the team we can knock off. They have been inconsistent against the better teams in the past. Hopefully that will extend to our own match up.

Dorian and Sonya. Ranked 8th We struggled at times last go round, but 7‘0 Hunter Pomainville developed into the leader we had hoped and 6th man Harris “Senister“ Glennister was huge. Perhaps we can make the next step in moving up the rankings.

Az-Cz. The new kids on the block will be looking to make some noise. But we will have the hardcore defense in full effect. We should take this one if we can play our game.

Now for the women. 5 teams now instead of 4.

Andossa Se Mitrin Vega (1)
Dorian and Sonya (2)
Myrtannia (3)
Socialist Union (-)
Quakmybush

ASMV. What can we say? They may be small, but man can they score in a hurry. Perhaps we will find a way for our bigger line-up to slow them down a bit.

D&S. We made quite a run last time. And even with controversy over officials, we managed to finish second. The big girls inside will be the difference this time around and perhaps we might just steal the title from ASMV.

Myrtannia. They won the only women’s game in the first AORBC before falling to third last time. They will be looking to make a push for another title. A 3-way race for the top looks to be in order.

The Socialist Union and Quakmybush will both be looking to play spoiler. They should end up fighting for the last qualification spot, but who knows just yet.

Ranked #1 and.........#1 Woot!

And here we are yet again for another, hopefully amazing, AOBC. Somehow we managed to get ourselves a number one ranking on the men’s side even though we lost the title game to Khazaron last time and Lamoni the time before that. It makes it hard to look at living up to a ranking of #1 when you don’t even have a stinking trophy to brag about. Oh well. We will fix that this time.

The Hoop Dragons will be flying high again. No one has ever consistently managed to score with us. We can usually put up big points without a lot of effort. Just pretend you didn’t see the last scores for us against Lamoni, Khazaron, or D&S when you read that. But octane is what we run on. And we will be running again.

The one-two punch for the Hoop Dragons has always come from Kenyi Ayudan and Nolan Garrigus. Don’t expect that to change this time either. They are still in top form and ready to average their nearly 30 points apiece per game. The big man, Alvaro Nouri, needs to become more consistent. He holds the record for points in a game for the AOBC, but he can just as easily be invisible. Robby Malla will not score, we know that for sure. But his 20+ boards per game do come in handy. PG Fidel Casano leads the charge and dishes with the best of them. The starting five are as good as it gets.

The reserves however, do have issues. Casey Miller is the best of the bunch and Rod Greenwade can score a ton if he gets hot. But for the most part, it is the starters that have to play well.

The Lady Dragons also return with a number one ranking. But unlike the men, they have actually won a title. But just like the men, they score a ton. Shasta Papaleo leads a very balanced attack in which all five starters can score at any time. And the backups aren’t bad either. Michelle Hertha may be the best reserve in the region.

The trick for the lady Dragons will come down once again to handling the inside presence of D&S and Myrtannia. If they can do that, we might just win another title.

(OOC: Have to hurry this some, thunderstorm as i'm typing this)

Another AORBC, and another chance for Hugh 'Superman' Humber and company to win their second AORBC title in three AORBC's. As you might remember, Lamoni dominated everyone in AORBC I, easily cruising to the title, and using it's defense to crush the ASMV scoring streak. Much as they might not like to remember that.

The players were only encouraged by a Dorian and Sonya report that places Lamoni as the best team in AO despite our current fourth place ranking. The only possible beef is that Lamoni drew the first matchday as a bye, but the world is not a perfect place. The first match for the Hawks is against friend and ally Bazalonia, in what should be a pretty good warm-up game for Hugh Humber. I swear that the guy isn't human with how well he plays the game; but the fans love the guy. It's pretty obvious why they love him, though. The dimunitive center can completely dominate a game entirely on his own, and leads the teams that he is on to a higher level of play that wins games, and even AORBC titles. Is this the AORBC where the Hawks get their second title? We shall see.

Mk-Mnty is sitting at his desk.

Mk-Mnty: Holy mother of god. These teams are even taller than I expected. Our first opponents have a 7'1 power forward for goodness sakes. And Bazalonia starts a 7'4" giant and no one starting under 6'4". Hell the shortest player on their whole roster is 6'1". At least Lamoni isn't SO tall, but even they're taller than we are.

<thinks to himself for a bit, then presses a button on the phone on his desk>

Mk-Mnty: Lil-To, do you think you could put me through to Bn-Ck's office.

Lil-To: Will do sir.

<picks up his phone and waits for a bit. The phone rings three times>

Secretary: Bn-Ck's office, who is calling.

Mk-Mnty: Coach Mk-Mnty from the Az-cz national basketball team.

Secretary: Alright I'll put you through.

Bn-Ck: Mk-Mnty old boy, how's it going.

Mk-Mnty: Not good. Have you seen the rosters. We're going to get murdered. So I was thinking. We've got to be chummy with the Mice, haven't we. Do you think we could acquire one of their debigulators?

Bn-Ck: <Laughs> Somehow, I doubt it, but what the hell it couldn't. I'll see what I can do.

I'll have a roster up later tonight. I'm unable to do it now because of a busy schedule. Just to let you know.

Myrtannia Ready For AORBC III; Men, Women, Ready to Challenge for Titles

After hosting it twice in a row, Myrtannia now has traveled to the distant Socialist Union of Neu Amerika for the third go-around of AORBC. The only regional-scale tournament to originate in Myrtannia, it's been one of the Allied States' strong points in inter-regional competition. While the men have struggled in the playoff rounds, they're improving, no matter how slow that improvement is. The women, however, were AORBC I's women's champions, and are looking to reclaim the crown after falling to fourth last AORBC.

Myrtannia's teams both have interesting draws, so we'll start by looking at group B of the men's division:

Group B
Khazaron (2)
Myrtannia (3)
Nedalia (6)
Socialist Union (-)
Quakmybush (-)

Khazaron - The defending AORBC champions played solid, team basketball last time around, and look to be ready to dish out more of the same. Having jumped from fifth to second in the rankings, they'll be looking to become the first team to win consecutive AORBC titles. Or more than one, even. Myrtannia lost to this team despite a #1 seed in the knockouts last AORBC, and may have trouble against them again. Our line: A close-fought win for the Silver Sharks.

Myrtannia - The Suns have finished fourth (AORBC I) and third (AORBC II), respectively, in the past two tries. While they've improved on that front, they dissapointed after taking the #1 seed for the KO round, then being eliminated from championship contention by Khazaron. Vito Munise returns to lead a re-armed Suns offense that now lacks Rahir Abdul, how turned down an offer to join the Myrtannian national team.

Nedalia - Nedalia has been underwhelming in the AORBC, despite doing well in AOCAF and AO Bowl. They'll be looking to return to the knockout stage, and with two newcomers in this group, shouldn't have many problems doing so. How they'll do after that is anyone's guess. Our line: Suns beat the Lions after an early scare.

Socialist Union and Quakmybush - Both teams are newcomers, and will be battling each other for the final qualification spot of Group B. Myrtannia should throttle both of them on its way to second place in the group. We'll take the Crimson Stars to nab the last knockout round spot given that their nation is hosting the tournament.

In the women's division, things seem less clear:

ASMV (1)
D&S (2)
Myrtannia (3)
Socialist Union (-)
Quakmybush (-)

ASMV - The Lady Dragons can score a ton of points in a hurry, and finished second place in AORBC I before claiming the title in AORBC II. If they can run and keep the game at a tempo they're comfortable with, no one will be able to keep up with them. Bigger teams will have to slow them down and dominate the paint to have a shot at derailing ASMV's run at a second title.

D&S - This team is fun to watch, and despite fishy officiating, finished second in the very first try at AORBC. Their big lineup will help them do well again, and the Myrtannia - D&S game will be a war on the court. If ASMV slips up, the Lady Mystics could well sneak in and take the trophy home with them.

Myrtannia - Like the men's team, the Dryads will be relying on their center to lead the offense, with the retirement of Zenobia Abdur-Shareef after AORBC II. Ping Seek anchors an impressive Drayds team that will challenge for their second title in three AORBCs, but they face stiff competition from ASMV and D&S. A three way race for first is certainly not out of the question.

Socialist Union and Quakmybush - Again, both nations are new to AORBC, and in the smaller women's division, their luck won't change any. ASMV, D&S, and Myrtannia will all drill them, leaving the matchup between the two as being the deciding factor in who takes home a wooden spoon. Once again, we'll give the Reds the benefit of the doubt based on homecourt advantage.

And the rosters:

Mystics & Lady Mystics Look Solid On Day 1

Men's
And now the 3rd AORBC is finally underway. Thank Heavens for that. Now let us look at today’s action.

In the men’s division Group A, The Mystics of Dorian and Sonya managed to play a high-scoring game and actually trash the smaller line-up from Az-Cz. Conventional wisdom always says that the smaller group has the advantage when the score is pushed up. But conventional wisdom does not account for a team shooting a full 75% in the paint. But the Mystics did just that, repeatedly forcing Az-Cz to try to match the inside presence that dominated from start to finish.

The first half started quickly for Az-Cz as they attempted to run. But last time we stopped the mighty ASMV from doing that very thing and Az-Cz was no match for the inside presence of the Mystics. Pass after pass went in to the low post and Az-Cz could only watch as the Mystics rolled up a 60-45 1st half lead.

But to give credit where it is due, Az-Cz would not back down. Instead they let loose a massive volley of 3 point shots in the second half and managed to get theirselves back into the game. With 4 minutes left on the clock they had actually cut the lead to just 3 points. But then the big guys for D&S took over again and 6 consecutive free throws from Hunter Pomainville would seal the 98-92 victory for the Mystics.

Pomainville led all players with 38 points, 21 boards, 13 assists, and 11 block to generate the very seldom seen Quadruple Double. Silas Drugan added 21 points, Kurtis Cullar had 18 points and 17 rebounds off the bench, Aurelio Poreda had 11 points in limited action. That comes out to a massive 88 points in the paint for the Mystics. if that continues, we will be very hard to beat.

In other men’s action Bazalonia managed a huge upset of the Hoop Dragons by managing to shut down the scoring machine and limiting them to a lowly 79 points. That is a huge accomplishment and means that Baz does bear keeping an eye on. It also means trouble for us as ASMV will be looking to punish someone for the poor performance today.

Women's
Women’s action also got underway with another good result for D&S. The Lady Mystics rolled to an easy victory over the host Reds of the Socialist Union. The first half was a tight affair as neither team managed to break away and ended in a 40-40 score. But the lady Mystics were out to prove they had what it takes to win the whole thing.

Genevie Servatius would score 15 of her team high 26 points in the second half as she single-handedly tried to will her team to victory. In fact 10 of those 15 points would come in the final 3 minutes, as the Socialist Union tried to stay in the game. But the Reds lacked that all-important crunch time experience and faltered allowing D&S to leave the arena with a 90-80 win. Balance was again the key for the Lady Mystics as all five starters scored in double figures.

The other game saw ASMV’s Lady Dragons do what their male counterparts could not do. Score. They outraced Quakmybush by a score of 94-88.

Next up is a date with those same Quakmybush ladies and hopefully the result will be much the same for them. Maybe better.

Hoop Dragons Stink - Lady Dragons Rule

Today the Sea Dragons opened the 3rd AORBC with everything on the line as the powers that be had placed the horrid tag of the number one ranking on their heads. Idiots!

Bazalonia looked more like the number one team as they easily crushed the Hoop Dragons 87-79. Ok. So maybe it wasn’t that easy. But with the Hoop Dragons no where near their AORBC average of 97 ppg, it was easy enough. So why didn’t ASMV score more than a lousy 79 points? We could give credit to Bazalonia’s marvelous defensive effort, but it was more likely the food poisoning that Garrigus was suffering from. With him unable to contribute much, Ayudan faced double coverage all night long. If our idiot of a center, Alvaro Nouri, could have found the basket at all instead of wondering around the court like a blind beggar, we might have had a chance. But alas, we always have one disappointing game. Hopefully this was it for us. Got it out of our system early. We have to play better tomorrow or D&S will punish us inside much like they did Az-Cz. Hmmmm…..We really need a win against the Mystics. After all, Lamoni is still waiting for us. Hugh has a score to settle with us. Not Good.

The Lady Dragons did much better as they handled a pesky Quakmyubush team 94-86. But the game wasn’t really that close as they closed in from being down nearly 20 against the subs in the final 8 minutes of play. They surprised us. We almost had to put the starters back in.

The men will face the tough task of D&S tomorrow while the women will be looking for a beach to relax on for their bye date.

"And welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your Host Denis Rainy.

"Today the Dribbling Bazalopes faced the Hoop Dragons in the Volgogorod Arena on the Socialist Union of Neu Amerika, and What expected to be a High scoring extravaganza, the scoring powerhouse of the Hoop Dragons,Kendi Ayudan had been shutdown by the defensive skills of #5, Trevor Assington ,#17, John Luke Pauland, #18, Hezekiah Lukeson.

In the first quarter Kendi Ayudan, never seemed to get into action and performed his personal worst performance in recent history missing as many as he hit, the Dribbling Bazalopes however, lead by captain,Roger Geffories, where on fire scoring an impressive 31 points in the quarter. The results at quarter time where Andossa Se Mitrin Vega with a measley 19 points, Bazalonia 31.

In the second quarter it was a different matter all together, while the Dribbling Bazalopes seemed to rest on their laurels the Hoop Dragon's spurred into action lead by Alvaro Nouri and Nolan Garrigus with a number of 3 pointers. The Andossa Se Mitrin Vega Hoop Dragons not only caught back up to the Dribbling Bazalopes but managed to take a 3 point lead in the dying seconds of the first half. Andossa Se Mitrin Vega 54, Bazalonia 51

The third quarter was a much more defensive quarter with both teams hunkering down and defending their goals, The largest amount of personal fouls where called in this round and a number of players had 4 fouls to their name. With just a second left on the clock Daniel Death using his height advantage took a penalty shot to even the score up. Andossa Se Mitrin Mega 67, Bazalonia 67

In the the last quarter the Dribbling Bazalopes started to draw away from the Hoop Dragons scoring 8 more points which in a quarter that had scoring as low as this was a major benefit, The Dribbling Bazalopes restricted their opponents to 12 points while they themselves scored 20, a 66% improvement over their opponents. And in a match that was expected to be a total white-wash of the Dribbling Bazalopes by the number 1 ranked team. Final Score Andossa Se Mitrin Vega 79, Bazalonia 87.

In other group 1 news the gnomes of Az-Cz performed valliantly well against the Mystics of Dorian and Sonya, Dorian and Sonya being ranked 8th and with Az-Cz being un-ranked this game was expected to be one of the most interesting match-ups, combing the fact that of the size diference of the gnomes, the Mystics where expected to dominate. However the game was a good close game nearly the entire game, the gnomes had fond a number of ways to make their size difference work for them.

The next game day we are facing good freinds and allies, however don't expect either the Hawks or the Dribbling Bazalopes go easy on each other just because of the friendship. I am Denis Rainy and this has been BazSport's Highlight coverage of the Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship.

OOC: Can someone go into details about the rules used for basketball? Are they the same as real world international basketball rules? Other things I'm curious about are the number of fouls, the number of periods (quarters or halfs), and how long each period is.

Az-cz comes up short

Az-cz showed a great spirit and earned respect and admiration from the other teams in their group, but unfortunately their lack of height was indeed what did them in. Whenever Dorian & Sonya needed the basket, they just got it down low and put it in or drew a foul.
The game started out well for Az-cz. The press gave Az-cz an early run and they were up 16-4, just 4 minutes into the game. However once Dorian & Sonya figured out the press they immediately took control of the game. When that happened it meant three things for Az-cz: that they were giving up easy baskets, commiting fouls, and weren't getting easy baskets on the offensive end. Dorian & Sonya decided they were going to get our centers out of the game with fouls. So they threw it into Pomainville every time. Although Barthez played good defense trying to use his strength he commited two quick fouls. Eafo McMichaels then came in but he also picked up two quick fouls and came out. Next was Brethur Knee who commited two fouls. When those fouls came it was all over for Az-cz. They tried to go small, but with an ineffective press Dorian & Sonya scored at will. When Knee went out it was still close at 24-22 Dorian & Sonya lead but by the time a big man came back in it was 50-31. We rallied a bit before halftime to go into the break down 60-45.
The start of the second half was more of the same. Dorian & Sonya continued to pound down load getting more fouls and more points. They eventually built their lead up to as many as 27 at 84-57. However the press did it's job and you could see Dorian & Sonya tire out. Coach Mk-Mnty also made a smart move to increase the three point production on the court, using both Duk-Fn and Mk-Fk extensively in the second half. The team then rallied quite well to get as close as 90-87, but Dorian & Sonya had just enough left to reestablish their inside game one more time and finish it out.
Although the result was unquestionably disappointing, and the lack of height really did punish the team, it was still a good showing. Az-cz showed that they present an unorthodox match up capable of providing some trouble. One other thing to be happy about is that currently Az-cz is ahead of Andossa Se Mitrin Vega, the number one ranked team in Atlantian Oceania.
Az-cz has the next day off before playing Bazalonia. Considering Bazalonia's fine opening day win it will be a quite difficult match, but we can trust our Pink & Green to fight hard. As for Dorian & Sonya they have Andossa Se Mitrin Vega, who will be looking to rebound from a disappointing opening day loss.
Word is the Az-cz boys will be looking to fraternize with the ASMV women on their day off. We'll let you know how that goes.

"And welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your Host Denis Rainy.

Today saw the Dribbling Bazalopes face the Lamoni Hawks, in what was a neck and neck game throughout the 4 quarters in what seemed a rivalry that kept both teams on their toes the Dribbling Bazalopes managed to steal an extra 2 points and hence win the game.

Even Lamoni's star centre Hugh Humber, who has been compared to the comic superhero "SuperDude" in his abilities, could not take the match and make it his own. Let's take a look at some of the highlights of the match."

<A number of shots, some featuring Hugh, others Daniel Death, all very entertaining and all being very different, some where complex layouts, others where long 3-pointers, one never managed to brake the backboard as the player that made the shot hunger from the rim.>

"Gamedays 1 and 2 had the Bazalopes toughest matches through the group stage and now Bazalonia leads the group A table with 2 wins, no losses and a total of positive 10 goal differences.

Now with the 2 hardest maches behind us we face the gnomes of Az-Cz, being unranked the gnomes are expected to be fairly easy for the Dribblng Bazalopes to topple but their performance against Dorian & Sonya should give us something to pause and think about. Don't count these little blighters out yet. They may be small but they sure are potent.

A day at the beach

Mk-Mnty figured that he ought to let his team enjoy their trip, so they arranged a joint day at the beach with the ladies from Andossa Se Mitrin Vega.
Both squads seemed to enjoy their day off. There were various activities, a barbecue but the highlight of the day was definitely the beach volleyball match. With the exception of the three main post players for Az-cz, they were even shorter than the ASMV women. Combine that with the ASMV women's superior knowledge of volleyball and the results weren't too suprising. They played two sets, rally scoring to 30 and ASMV won both, 30-22 and 30-24. Although it was a blow to their egos, the Az-cz players seemed to have a good time and made some new friends.
When asked for his thoughts starting shooting guard Rn-Mndez said "those ladies from Andossa Se Mitrin Vega are really nice. And a few of them are stone-cold gorgeous. I've got my eye on Janella Kauffold. Cute and can ball. What a combo". Some of the more veteran members had a more professional perspective. Back up point guard Duk-Fn told us that he thought making friends with ASMV could really help the team. "Look they're the top women's team and the men's team is the top ranked as well. Perhaps we can use this as a starting point to get coaches from ASMV to come to Az-cz to help us improve our game."
Although they are going to fight hard in their remaining group games to advance, it's quite possible when all is said and done, this will be the highlight of the trip.

Hawks fall by 2 points to Bazalonia

Before we get into anything else, it must be said that this was a good game. Bazalonia's 2 point win does not make a difference as far as that goes. The time just happened to run out before we could reply to Bazalonia's last score.

That said, Hugh Humber scored fourty points all by himself. <Cue clips of Hugh Humber doing his thing> We don't call him 'Superman' for nothing, you know. Though, sometimes even Superman needs backup from his team, and I think that he got it. Despite the loss to Bazalonia, I think that this team should shape up fairly well. They've already done a better job than our AOCAF team, whose plane exploded on the way back from the Socialist Union. In one final insult to the worst Lamonian AOCAF team in history; no one answered the call for there to be a national day of mourning when they died. As the planes wreckage is scattered all over the seas of AO, it will be sometime before the cause of the explosion is found, if ever.

Next up for the Hawks is ASMV. This is the team that is currently ranked number one in the AORBC standings, but has yet to take a AORBC title. Ironicly, both teams that HAVE taken home an AORBC title (Lamoni and Khazaron) have knocked ASMV out of the knockout stages.

As a matter of fact, ASMV has doubts about their ability to defeat the Hawks, as evidenced by this statement made by the ASMV media:

QUOTE
Hmmmm…..We really need a win against the Mystics. After all, Lamoni is still waiting for us. Hugh has a score to settle with us. Not Good.

Expect Lamoni to shut down the ASMV offense again, and pull off a win.

Mystics Struggle in Loss - Lady Mystics Struggle in Win

MEN’S

The Mystics looked extremely calm as they took the court against the high-flying Hoop Dragons of ASMV. Due to the results yesterday, all signs pointed to another good game for the Mystics. And no matter how hard and loud Head Coach Emory Mastella had screamed at his players, he could not get it into their heads that they might just be in trouble for their second game of the AORBC. And to all of the Mystics players, it came as a shock to find that the coach had been right all along.

Right from the tip it was apparent that our beloved Mystics intended to use the same strategy of pound the ball in down low that was so successful against Az-Cz on day 1. One teeny little problem with that idea. ASMV actually has some great post defenders. Hunter Pomainville tried to make the best of a very bad situation as he put up 21 points and collected 17 boards for the game. But the other post players really felt the pressure applied by the Hoop Dragon big men.

That meant it was up to the smaller guys to make the difference for the Mystics - and that just didn’t happen the way we needed it to. After the Az-Cz game, not one of them had any kind of rythym to their shots from the perimeter. Those long shots always result in long rebounds that only served to allow the Hoop Dragons to run in the open court as D&S defenders struggled to keep up.

In the end, the valiant effort by Pomainville was just not enough as the Mystics fell to the Hoop Dragons 89-79.

The other men’s game saw Bazalonia continue to impress the media by dropping Lamoni 101-99 in a squeaker. But Baz is now 2-0 against the top two teams in the group. Luckily we have a bye date so that we can scout them against Az-Cz and study film of their first two games. That fact and the rest should make a huge difference as we try to ruin their run.

The other game tomorrow will be Lamoni and ASMV. Hugh Humber vs. the Hoop Dragon offense. Should be quite a game.

*****************************************************************************************
[B]Women’s]/B]

The lady Mystics took the court against Quakmybush on Day 2. This was supposed to be the last of the easy games before ASMV and Myrtannia. Someone forgot to tell that to Quakmybush.

The first quarter started slowly for the Lady Mystics while Quak rolled to an easy 23-11 lead. But the second quarter saw the balance normally associated with D&S women’s basketball prove too much for the newcomers as the Lady Mystics moved the ball around brilliantly, nad placing the ladies from Quak in a near state of confusion. Halftime would see the score knotted at 42 apiece

The third quarter would offer no better chance for the Lady Mystics as they could not find a way to put the upstarts behind them for good. Every D&S run was answered and the score remained even after 3 quarters. 58-58.

The 4th quarter saw a different story. D&S, led by Genevie Servatius and Quakmybush, led by Beth Collins found a way to get the offenses in gear. Back and forth they went, each team proving their abilities. It wasn’t until the final two minutes, after Collins had fouled out, that the Lady Mystics put the game away. Back up Point Guard, Summer Uher, scored nine points during that span - including the 3 that gave D&S their 86-83 victory with 11 seconds left.

That means a rematch of AORBC 2’s final will happen tomorrow as D&S (2-0) squares off against ASMV (1-0). A classic battle of size vs. speed. Speed won last time. Now it is time for size to do its job. Let’s just hope the little beach volleyball game where the lady Dragons crushed the Az-Cz men rather badly will slow them down just a bit.

Hoop Dragons Return to Form

The Hoop Dragons, after being embarrassed by Bazalonia on Day1, were out to prove a point against the Mystics on Day2. The problem with proving a point against D&S is that they are so damn big. But they made it relatively easy for us early in the game by insisting on throwing the ball to Hunter Pomainville every time down the court. Alvaro Nouri and Robby Malla were ready for that tactic and managed to hold the region’s second-best center to just 21 points. The other Mystics did not fare nearly as well. Nouri collected 11 blocks while Malla slapped away 10 himself.

But the big difference was the return of Nolan Garrigus to normal as he forced the D&S players to spread the defense just a bit too far. Ayudan made them pay for it with 33 points to go along with Garrigus’s 23. In the end ASMV would walk away as 89-79 victors.

The win was a huge one as Lamoni looms large as the next opponent. And yes, we do worry about this one. Anyone who has faced Hugh Humber before has reason to worry. But the Dynamic Duo of Garrigus and Ayudan will be looking to keep things even. If Nouri can actually score, we might just win this one.

The Lady Dragons had the day off, and decided to go to the beach. But they were soon interrupted by a group of noisy ballplayers (term used loosly) from the nation of Az-Cz.

When asked about the Bar-B-Q, Shasta Papaleo had this to say - “Burnt chicken and not enough beer to make it taste good. And what was up with the ribs? Ewwww.

When asked about comments made by Rn-Mndez, Janella Kauffold had this to say - “Who?”

And yes, the beach volleyball game was the highlight of the day. After the bad chicken and ribs, no beer, and all the drooling, The Lady Dragons had to do something.

Az-cz no match for rampaging Bazalonia.

While opening day saw the Gnomes play tough and nearly steal a victory, while being the better team at the beginning and the end, there were no good stretches against Bazalonia.
It took some time for Dorian & Sonya to figure out the Az-cz press, but Bazalonia needed no such time. They jumped out on Az-cz in a big way early and never looked back. Witht their captain Roger Geffories confidently manning the point and Daniel Death running the floor to get open look after open look Az-cz fell behind quickly 22-6. Things never really got better for Az-cz either.
By halftime Bazalonia had extended their lead to 61-28. Bazalonia was looking like they might be able to pull off a rout of record porportions. There was no sign of Az-cz making any comeback and things looked bleak for the pink & green. With almost no fan support because the soccer gnomes were cruising through the Baptism of Fire, there indeed was no joy Md-Vl, or anywhere else for Az-cz basketball fans.
Thankfully Bazalonia decided to call off the dogs in the second half. Combined with Rn-Mndez getting hot in the second half Az-cz was able to eventually cut the lead down. However it took scoring the last 11 points of the game to even get to the final score of Bazalonia 96, Az-Cz 81.
We caught up with coach Mk-Mnty after the game and these were his comments. "We're getting better and the effort is quite good, but we're not there yet. To beat these teams much bigger than we are we need to be far better than them, and we aren't yet. Hats off to Bazalonia, they look like the team to beat. We don't expect to advance, but we're going to keep fighting, and who knows?"
Next up is Lamoni. They are fresh off a victory over Andossa Se Mitrin Vega. Their star player Hugh Humber 6'2 is definitely going to be a lot to deal with, but at least he won't dominate us with height.

Posted by: Lamoni Aug 12 2006, 02:25 PM
Hawks shut down ASMV, AGAIN

The Lamonian AORBC team looks to be in top form this time, shutting down the vaunted ASMV offense, and taking control of this game early. Hugh Humber came up with fifty points just by himself, and the rest of the team didn't do badly at all.

<picture of Hugh slam dunking>

The Hawks led the game for all but brief moments in the first quarter, which brings flashbacks of winning the AORBC title in the first AORBC. No wonder why ASMV is so afraid of us. Our defense is top notch, and Superman (Hugh Humber) seems as score happy as ever. Things are definetly on track for Lamoni to take it's second AORBC title; and as always, that is the goal.

Lamoni faces Az-Cz next, and while they have lost both matches that they have been in so far, that doesn't mean that Lamoni can afford to take them lightly. As someone once said, "It's the quiet SOB's that you have to watch out for."*

Either way, Lamoni will play it's accustomed style of basketball. As the title win shows, it works. In the meantime, game film will be studied and the players will practice. We may not have the tallest team in the AORBC, but it is still a good team, and likely the best in the region; despite the fourth place ranking.

Lamoni - 106
ASMV - 97

(*OOC: does anyone know who is credited with saying that? I can't find that one out.)

Lady Mystics 3-0. Dropped ASMV biggrin.gif

Oh yeah. The Sylvanaes Kingdom can play hoops!. While the Mystics were off today preparing for their game against the shockingly good Bazalopes, the women were on the court taking care of business. Fitting that BTO was playing in the stadium at the time.

The ultimate showdown of speed vs. size was once again taking shape on the women’s tourney. The fast paced style of the Lady Dragons and the punishment style of the Lady Mystics made for one hell of an interesting matchup. And it was apparent very early that neither team was going to give in. D&S would hold a slim 21-19 lead at the end of 1.

Then the lady Dragons took off into their run-and-gun style and the Lady Mystics struggled to keep pace. By the half, ASMV would have a 48-40 lead and looked ready to run away with the victory. But the half time tirade by coach Anja Strollo seemed to do the trick. It would be over half way through the third quarter before ASMV would score again. By that time, the Lady Mystics had regained the lead that they would refuse to give up the rest of the way. The third quarter ended with the score 60-57.

That left things wide open for a massive 4th quarter showdown between AO’s best in women’s hoops. Genevie Servatius was the hero for D&S, as 14 of her team high 19 points were scored in the final stanza. But ASMV didn’t go quietly. Shana Balter nailed 4 three-pointers as time began to wind down, the last one pulling ASMV within a single point with 17 seconds left at 81-80. But it was Aleisha Ruggle’s three and Ngan Delosa’s two charity shots that gave the Lady Mystics their win.

That moves the Lady’s team to a magical 3-0. No one has been able to touch them yet. And really the closest game was against Quakmybush. But Myrtannia waits next. That should be another great match up between two of AO’s very best.

The other women’s game saw Myrtannia slip past Quakmybush 82-79. The Quackers are proving to be better than expected.

In men’s action, ASMV finally found their offense. Too bad they forgot how to D up. Lamoni trounced them 106-97.

Bazalonia embarrassed Az-Cz 96-81 to move to an impressive 3-0. Now we get to demolish their perfect little record.

"And welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your Host Denis Rainy.

Today, the Dribbling Bazalopes faced the gnomes of Az-Cz, in what seemed to be a walk in the park for the Captain and Daniel Death with the 2 combining for a 22-6 scoreline for the first quarter, all indications where of a huge goal difference with the Dribbling Bazalopes getting a 110 or so scoreline with the gnomes only managing to get something in the 50's.

<Video of various scorers, most where Daniel Death & the captain, Roger Geffories, but there was also a good goal scored by Kevin Hobbs>

The second quarter was much of a repeat of the 1st with the Dribbling Bazalope lead blowing out to a 33 point lead. The Dribbling Bazalopes scoring an extra 39 points where the Gnomes managed to score at least a somewhat decent amount, an extra 22 points.

<Video of some of the best goals in the match, Daniel Death and Kevin Hobbs where the most viewed players, but there where actually a number of basket shots that where made by the gnomes>

The 2nd half saw the Dribbling Bazalopes start to glide and the gnomes heat up, causing what was expected to be a rout into a respectibly close game. The 3rd quarter saw the gnomes bring the difference back by 6, The scoreline being Bazalonia 81, Az-Cz 54

<Video of Az-Cz goal with a number of obviously half-hearted attempts by the Bazalonians>

The fourth and final quarter saw this trend continue howevber the Bazalopes still kept the gnomes at bay the final result was Bazalonia 96, Az-Cz 81.

We only have one hurdle, the team from Dorian and Sonya for a perfect 4-0 group. Az-Cz's first match was against them and the team from D&S only managed a 2 point win over the gnomes. The Dorian and Sonyan's will want to show that they have it takes and will want to steal a perfect game record from the Dribbling Bazalopes. Either way the Dribbling Bazalopes are guaranteed a number 1 table position with their 3 wins.

Suns Split First Two Games

In their first AORBC away from home, the Myrtannia Suns have tried to show the competition that homecourt advantage wasn't the only reason they've finished in the top four in both tournaments so far. Without Rahir Abdul, this has become Vito Munise's team, and the Myrtannian men seem to be in a transitional phase, moving to the post-Abdul era of Myrtannian basketball.

"It's a lot to put on one guy's shoulders, but that's why I've got my teammates. You don't win the AORBC with a one-man team," Munise commented, "Even Lamoni's title win in the first one was more than just Hugh Humber. I do kind of wish Rahir had been able to win a title before he bowed out, but these things happen."

The first pair of games has been a mix of the good and bad of the new look Suns, the first one the tournament opener against Nedalia. Despite the sucess enjoyed by them on the football pitch, the Nedalians haven't done much of consequence in AORBC since finishing third in AORBC I. This game was a close one, as the Lions didn't want to go away.

Despite 20 lead changes during the course of the see-saw battle, the Suns managed to break away in the fourth, led by Vito. Munise scored 15 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter, and racked up an impressive 12 blocks and 16 rebounds as well during the course of the game. Nedalia attempted a late run, but were cut short by the defense of Munise, Brenton Senosk, and Ytzhak Golden. Final tally in this one was Myrtannia 97, Nedalia 94.

Myrtannia's second game showed the glaring problems in the new Suns team - when the opponent shuts everyone else down, Vito can't win the game on his own. This was the case when the Suns went up against defending champion Khazaron, who are looking very good in their defense of the title so far.

Despite a heroic effort by Vito, including 46 points, 20 rebounds, and 11 blocks, the Suns' offense was shut down by the Silver Sharks. Kirby Rylant was the second leading Suns scorer with 15. The whole game through, the Sharks just outplayed and outdefended the Myrtannian team, who ultimately fell by a score of 86-97.

Next up for Myrtannia is winless tournament newcomer Quakmybush, whose men's team has been having a lot of problems in Group B. Vito will play well, and if Rylant and co. can show up to support him, Myrtannia wins this one pretty handily.

Dryads Unbeaten, Face Dorian & Sonya Next

Where the Myrtannian men have had trouble coping without their former starting shooting guard, the women haven't lost a step. Zenobia Abdur-Shareef retired after Myrtannia's third place finish in AORBC II, but now patrols the sidelines as an assistant coach. In the last AORBC, Ping Seek emerged as the Dryads' leader on both sides of the court, while Abdur-Shareef struggled most of the time, combating old injuries.

Having built the third edition Dryads around a returning front court, Myrtannia looks just as good as the team that won the title in AORBC I. A new starting back court and some new faces on the bench as well have energized the Dryads as they hunt for their second title in three AORBCs. So far, so good.

In the first game, Myrtannia set a new AORBC women's division record by racking up an astounding 103 points against the hapless Reds of the host Socialist Union. Ping started out strong in the Third AORBC, putting up 44 points, 18 rebounds, 10 blocks, and 12 assists, but she wasn't the only Dryad to make headlines. New point guard Cheryle Odmark added 30 points and 15 assists, as the Dryads cruised past the Reds.

It was so bad for the Socialist Union that Myrtannia let its bench players finish out the final eight minutes, and the Reds still couldn't keep up. Dryads pulled out a 103-73 blowout of the Socialist Union.

The next game was far more competitive, as the winless but feisty Quakmybush women faced the mighty Dryads. Having lost closely previous to the match, the Quakers were looking to upset the Dryads, and played a very close game the whole way. At the end of the third quarter, the score was tied at 68 apiece. In the final quarter, Ping and company went on a 10-0 run, and it seemed to seal the Quakers' fate.

However, the ladies of Quakmybush didn't say uncle just yet, and roared back into it with their own impressive run. With little time left, it was 78-76 Myrtannia leading, until Beth Collins hit a difficult three point shot from the left corner that put her team up 79-78.

But Myrtannia, not to be outdone, came right back after a timeout and scored on a Ping dunk, taking the lead at 80-79. On the next play, the Quakers tried their one last chance to win, and almost got the shot off too. But Rona Lee picked up a block and recovered the ball, taking it all the way to the other end for an easy layup. As the final horn sounded, it was the Dryads with the win, 82-79.

The third matchup for the Dryads will be against the other unbeaten team in the women's division - Dorian and Sonya. In a rematch of the semi-finals of last AORBC's women's tournament, both teams will try to pick up what should be a hard-fought win.

Superman saves the day

Az-cz came incredibly close to pulling off what would've been the upset of the tournament against Lamoni. They took over at the end of the game, and did a good job of slowing Superman down, but couldn't stop him from scoring the winner.
Unlike the first two games Az-cz played relatively even with Lamoni in the first half. Humber was held to a measely 4 points in the first half as Lamoni was only able to get to a 48-44 halftime lead. Because Az-cz's weakness is height Humber wasn't able to take advantage. The gnomes know all about crafty players, as that is their stock in trade. Instead it was Max Stromberg bombing away from outside that put Lamoni ahead. He was 6-7 from 3pt range in the first half with 25 pts at the half.
Lamoni was able to stretch their lead to as many as 12 points early in the second half, but as the second half wore on Az-cz's press became more and more effective. Eventually Az-cz was able to take the lead 75-74 with 6 minutes left in the game. The game went back and forth but Az-cz pushed their lead to 90-87 when Rn-Mndez nailed a three with 52 seconds left. Lamoni responded with Carrol knocking down a 16 footer to cut the lead to one. On the ensuing possession Az-cz tried to get the ball down low to Barthez. Humber came through him and made a steal to give the ball back to Lamoni before calling a time out. Many in the crowd felt that Humber fouled Barthez, but the refs didn't agree so the play went the other direction.
Although Az-cz knew Humber was getting the ball he made a great spin move to get the basket and draw a foul. He calmy sank the free throw to give Lamoni a two point. Az-cz had just enough time to get off a half court shot Rn-Mndez got the ball swirling around the inside of the rim, but it just spun out. Lamoni in any number of ways got very lucky to escape.
Humber was held to nine points while Stromberg was the games top scorer with 43 points. Az-cz was paced by Rn-Mndez and Julio Barthez both who had 27 points.
Az-cz must regroup quickly from the disappointment of losing to Lamoni. They have the number one ranked ASMV team next and if they can play well enough to pull out an upset there is still a chance they could qualify. Although the odds are against them they will fight hard. As for Lamoni they finish up qualifying against Dorian & Sonya. Although they are certain to qualify they would like to lock up second place.

"And welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your Host Denis Rainy.

Today the Dribbling Bazalopes faced the Mystics of Dorian and Sonya. The battle was underway and the lines Drawn. On one side of the battle was the Dribbling Bazalopes, who had a perfect record against the likes of Andossa Se Mitrin Vegan Hoop Dragons, The Lamoni Hawks and the Az-Cz Lost Soul Minotaurs. On the other side was the Dorian & Sonyan Mystics determined to prevent a perfect 4 wins for the dribbling Bazalopes.

The first quarter started out with the Mystics with what seemed fire in their eyes. They gracefully executed a number of magnificent layouts, The match was certainly going in the favour of the Mystics. At then end of thw quarter the results where Bazalonia 20, Dorian & Sonya 28.

<Video of D&S goals with a couple of Bazalonian goals thrown in>

The second quarter saw the Dribbling Bazalopes continue to struggle and the Dorian & Sonyan's continued to lead go ahead. The Dribbling Bazalopes where seemingly having a hard time energising themselves it seemed that the Az-Cz last quarter was continued into this match. at half time the results where Bazalonia 39, Dorian & Sonya 61

The 3rd Quarter saw the Dribbling Bazalopes come out and seemingly go for with both hands the first time ever, as far as this reporter knows, a perfect run in the group stage. The Dribbling Bazalopes took a run of 3 pointers and a nunmber of unanswered 2 pointers and are catching back up to the mystics Bazalonia 64, Dorian & Sonya 77

The last quarter saw the fightback continue and for the first time in the game in the dying seconds of the game took the lead. And that was how the match ended. Bazalonia 102, Dorian & Sonya 98. and thus for first time in Bazalonian Basketball history a perfect group round.

The next gameday, Bazalonia has a bye as the other nations battle it out for the positioning in the ladder.

Lamoni wins close fought game

If you want to make it to the top, you have to learn how to win the close ones. That is what Lamoni did today against Az-Cz, the half court shot at the end notwithstanding. You might think that it was Superman who was Lamoni's top scorer, but in this match, you would be wrong. Max Stromberg had the Midas touch at the three point line, making six out of seven in the first half. Stromberg had fourty three points when the final buzzer sounded; while Hugh Humber was held to nine points.

This game clearly shows something that the Lamonian AORBC community has known for quite a while. As good as Superman is, he can't do everything; so the other people on the team have to be able to step up and take over when the opposition throws everything that it has against Humber. Stromberg answered the call in this game, and that is why Lamoni won it. That, and a well timed steal by Superman himself at the end of the game.

Both Lamoni and Az-Cz looked impressive out on the floor, as this game was always fairly close. We fully recognize that if some things had gone Az-Cz's way, they would have won. That is not what happened, however; and Lamoni got the win.

Lamoni faces Dorian & Sonya next, and should retain their second place spot with a win. While the Hawks would still qualify for the knockouts with a loss, they would much rather smash their way through the group stages, especially after the loss to Bazalonia in their first game day of AORBC III. Lamoni and D&S are friends, with the company Sabre Inc. of D&S even going so far as to design the uniforms for the Hawks, but don't expect that to affect how things go on the court. Lamoni will be looking to retain it's second place spot with a win, and D&S would feel a lot more secure in their chances of going to the knockouts with a win over Lamoni. Expect this to be a hard fought game, but Lamoni should win this one. Sorry D&S, but that is how the stats go.

Lamoni - 92
Az-Cz - 90

Mystics Fall to Baz. Lady Mystics Win in OT - Still Undefeated

The Mystics were looking to ruin Bazalonia’s perfect little run in the men’s competition of the AORBC3. And it looked as if they would do just that during the first 3 quarters of action. D&S had a massive lead that looked completely insurmountable. Then it happened. Hunter Pomainville, the leader of the Mystics and arguably the best player in the tournament, came down wrong as he challenged the Bazalope center for a rebound. The result was , thank God, a severely sprained ankle that could have been much worse. But it was enough to shake the Mystics confidence and Bazalonia took full advantage by getting into the open court and converting while Aurelio Poreda and Kurtis Culler struggled to fill the void left in Pomainville’s absence. In the end, it was the bazalopes who made the magnificent comeback to win the game 102-96. Pomainville is expected to start vs.Lamoni. But the action could be limited for him. Only time will tell.

Lamoni seems to think they, and Hugh Humber, have the advantage. We will not dispute that fact, especially if Pomainville cant play up to his normal level of excellence. The Sylvanaes Kingdom and Lamoni are friends, as was stated. But there is another saying “We’re only friends until the first whistle blows. After that, I’ll beat you down.” That about sums it up. Sorry. You know how it is.

In women’s action, the Lady Mystics faced off against the rival Dryads of Myrtannia. The last meeting had been close and this one looked to be no different.

All game long, things were back and forth. Neither team was able to gain an advantage. Neither team was willing to let the other get ahead. Neither team wanted to lose this one. 27 lead changes, balanced scoring for both sides, and hard play throughout, brought regulation to a close at an impressive 90-90 score.

It was in overtime that D&S took the advantage. Myrtannia didn’t have an answer for reserve guard Sparkle Siles who hit three treys to put D&S ahead for good. The game ended with D&S taking a 106-104 victory and remaining undefeated.

The win accomplishes something very special. Just as the Bazalonia men made it through the group stage undefeated, D&S has done so in the women’s tourney. And we beat both former champions to do it. That makes things very interesting for the knock out stage. But at least Myrtannia and ASMV will be on the other side of the bracket. Khazaron’s men also have a chance to go undefeated in the group stage if they can get past Quakmybush in the final game.

Bye date Means No Loss For Hoop Dragons

ASMV sputtered against Lamoni and took a much needed break. The Hoop Dragons were in trouble. Losses to Bazalonia and Lamoni, combined with Khazaron looking very solid in the other group, had hurt the team’s chances of finally winning a Championship. In fact, they might not even qualify for the next round. So much for being ranked number 1. No team that has never won a title should ever be ranked number 1.

But the Hoop Dragons were ready for their final game against the newcomers from Az-Cz. This one we will win. This is the one where we make a statement to the rest of the teams here. This is where we begin our championship run. As long as no one wakes me up that is.

Lady Dragons Roll To Easy Win

The women have been doing better. The 19 point thrashing of the Socialist Union Reds was a return to form after the disappointing result against the Lady Mystics. The Lady dragons are now 2-1 and face old rivals from AORBC 1’s only women’s game that gave Myrtannia a title. The games with the Dryads have always been fun to watch. This one shouldn’t be any different as they enter the game 2-1 as well, fresh off an OT loss to D&S. Hopefully they will still be tired as we try to make our claim for another Championship Title.

On the Dribbling Bazalopes day off the team spent their time watching The Lamoni - Dorian and Sonya match. Many expected the Lamoni Hawks to win by a somewhat reasonable margin however the team was treated to an Overtime treat as Lamoni took the game by a only a few points.

After the game the Dribbling Bazalopes first went to visit the Lamonian hawks and congratulated them on their win. Explaining that they really enjoyed the spectacle of the game. After a bit of time the team would have visited the Mystics of Dorian and Sonya but they realised that with the loss the Mystics would be the 8th ranked team and they would be the team they'd encounter next. Either way, the relatioship between the Dribbling Bazalopes and the Hawks continued to firm

......

"And welcome to the BazSports Coverage of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship. I'm your Host Denis Rainy.

Today saw the Dribbling Bazalopes take a restful day and watch the Lamonian/Dorian & Sonyan Overtime thriller, so we have no Dribbling Bazalope news to bring to you, but what we do have is that after the group Stage has ended both Both Bazalonia and Khazaron have exhibited a perfect group stage winning all their matches so far and Khazaron will be the team for the Dribbling Bazalopes to do Battle with.

In the Quarter finals of the 3rd Atlantian Ocean Regional Basketball Championship, The Bazalopes will once again face the Mystics of Dorian and Sonya, they beat them once, but the question is can they do it again? our ranking difference of 1/8 says we can but the Mystics will want to prove that they are infact the better team after leading through out the game and only allowing the Dribbling Bazalopes to come back in the last quarter of the game.

Will the mystics take down a seemingly unstoppable Dribbling Bazalopes or will the Dribling Bazalopes take the result that befits their position as the number 1 seed in the final series.

Should Dribbling Bazalopes beat the MYstics they will face either Lamoni or Myrtannia, Should Lamoni win against the Myrtannian Dryads then it will be the second final seeries that the Dribbling Bazalopes has faced the Lamoni Hawks, and should Andossa Se Mitrin Vega win against the host's team and beat the winner of the Khazaron-Nedalia match,m of course expected to be Khazaron then it will be an all Group A affair for the Dribbling Bazalopes throughout the tournament.

Exactly if the Dribbling Bazalopes can get to the final and have a perfect run through the entireity of the 3rd Atlantian Oceania Regional Basketball Championship and giving the Dribbling Bazalopes their first basketball championship.

Az-cz eliminated from AORBC, no one much cares

Today was the last match of the group round of the AORBC. Az-cz was playing against might Andossa Se Mitrin Vega with a slim hope of getting into the knockout stages. However Andossa Se Mitring Vega put a quash to that early. They ran out to a big first half lead and never looked back.
When things started to go bad for no one really seemed to care. News had filtered in that the football team had won the Baptism of Fire in dominating fashion and there was no way to kill the positive vibes. Not even the 22 point thrashing ASMV laid on Az-cz.
After the game we caught ub to Sh-Bob and here's what he had to say. "Look losing is a disappointment to be sure. But we showed some skills, we nearly beat Lamoni and for the most part shutdown superman and made our presence felt. We'll be back more ready to compete next time. Although our results are disappointing with the Footballers bringing home a trophy and Kleptochase quickly gaining popularity, sports are definitely on the rise in Az-cz." Coach Mk-Mnty added "We're just a little behind the curve. Atlantian Oceania has a reputation for sports juggernauts for a reason. It'll take time for us to catch up, especially considering our height disadvantage. But we showed that we're not too far from winning. I expect that in the next AORBC we'll be able to find some victories."

Hawks make knockouts in second place

After a Lamonian win against D&S and some ranking confusion, Lamoni was correctly placed in the second seed of group B. This means that Lamoni will face ASMV in the first part of the knockouts. As you may recall, Lamoni shut ASMV's offense down during the group stages; and the Hawks will be looking to do it again. We may not have the perfect records of either Khazaron or Bazalonia, but no one will dispute that we have a VERY good shot at winning our second AORBC title.

As far as the game against D&S went, Lamoni won in overtime; turning what was expected to be a Lamonian blowout into a fairly good game. The result of this game does not mean that Lamoni is slowing down, but that the rest of the region is starting to catch up. We had a fairly free ride in AORBC I, and we didn't expect that to last.

Superman scored thirty points in the game, with Stromberg continuing to be a three point threat. Stromberg hit nine of ten three point attempts, and that helped to propel Lamoni over D&S.

Now Lamoni's focus is on it's upcoming match against ASMV. Since the rankings mix-up, we don't know who we will face after that, and we probably won't find out until after the match. However, it is Lamonian philosophy to concentrate on what is directly in front of yourselves; lest you trip over your own boots.

Suns Finish Strong, Face Crimson Stars Once Again in KO's

After a minor setback against defending AORBC champion Khazaron, the Myrtannia Suns have been on fire, finishing with an impressive 3-1 record in the group stage. This was achieved with wins over Quakmybush and the host Socialist Union, the latter on the final group stage day. Two wins over two newcomers gave the defending bronze medalists the fourth seed in the knockouts, and a second round with the Socialist Union squad.

In the group stage matchup, the Suns were challenged early and often by the Crimson Stars, who were battling to try and finish as high in the standings as they could. A victory might have catapulted the hosts into third place, but luck was not with the hosts this time. After the first three quarters ending in ties, Myrtannia broke away in the fourth and stayed ahead.

Once again it was Vito Munise leading the way for the Suns, scoring 18 in the fourth quarter alone, outscoring the Crimson Stars as well as his Suns teammates. The star center finished with 35 points and 15 rebounds. A late 8-0 run put the Suns ahead 93-85, and despite a late pair of baskets, the Suns emerged victorious. Final tally in this one was 93-89.

Next up, the Suns face the Socialist Union in round one of the knockouts, which was supposed to have taken place yesterday, but no news of any such games has been released. It's always difficult to face the same team twice in a row, because that second time they know your tricks. However, the more experienced Suns should prevail, and would most likely face the surprisingly successful Bazalonians in the semi-finals.

*********************

Dryads Drop Lady Dragons Once, Can They Do It Again?

In the women's divison, the Myrtannia Dryads also finished 3-1, culminating in an exciting win over their main AORBC rival, ASMV's Lady Dragons. Through three tournaments, Myrtannia and ASMV have battled in the women's division, though last AORBC saw the Dryads fall in the semis to Dorian & Sonya. This time, the knockouts have provided a rematch of the long-running basketball rivalry between the Dryads and Lady Dragons.

The group stage matchup was a 96-90 affair in which the Dryads won a very close game, thanks once again to the combined efforts of Ping Seek and Cheryle Odmark. Ping racked up 26 points to go with 12 rebounds and 8 blocks, while Odmark contributed 19 points and 14 assists.

In the knockouts, anything can happen, especially when the two teams that have won AORBC women's titles clash in the opening round. Only the game itself will tell whether or not the Dryads move on for a chance to win title number 2.

Lamoni wins again

The Hawks are turning out to be the master of the close game in AORBC III. They won another close one today, but lets get to the other things first.

Both Max Stromberg and Superman had high scores today; 25 points for both of them. The fans even gave Stromberg a nickname today, calling him the 'bomber,' for his mastery of the three point shot.

Lamoni won this game for two reasons. Scoring and defense. While the Lamonian defense again shut down the ASMV offense, the Superman/Bomber duo led the rest of the team over the hump to victory. When ASMV put in an all out effort late in the fourth quarter, it was a nothing but net three point shot from Stromberg (scored with a full minute left in the game) that put the game out of ASMV's reach.

<picture of game winning three>

AORBC history has shown that the team that defeats ASMV in the knockouts will go on to win the AORBC title. While two completed AORBC's does not constitute a lot of history, ASMV is almost garunteed to be mad and worried about this trend. Does this signal a Lamonian title run? We don't know, but things will become a little clearer after the Hawk's next match. Lamoni faces Khazaron in a match between the only two nations to win AORBC titles. Both teams are playing well right now, so this should be THE game to watch. While we think that Lamoni will win (What? We have national pride too!), the oddsmakers are predicting that this will be either side's game. It will all come down to who can shut down the other teams offense. While Lamoni has lots of good experience at this; so does Khazaron.

Lamoni - 93
ASMV - 91

Mystics Shock Bazalonia in OT

The D&S Mystics somehow managed enough points in the group stage to advance to play the mighty Bazalopes in the opening round of AORBC 3 quarter-finals. It wasn’t that the Mystics had actually played badly, but being in the same group with ASMV and Lamoni as well as the new high-flying act of Bazalonia seemed to put a huge damper on our chances. But thanks to Az-Cz we managed to avoid the bottom spot and slide into the next round.

The meeting in the group stage had seen the Dribbling Bazalopes walk away with the win. That would not be allowed to happen again. And Hunter Pomainville was just the man to put a damper on the perfect record of the Bazalopes.

Bazalonia rolled to an early 1st quarter lead of 32-13. But that might have just been the thing that ruined them. Led by Pomainville, the Mystics chipped away at the lead and cut it to 13 points by halftime.

Lackadaisical efforts from Bazalonia in the third quarter allowed D&S to quietly cut the lead to just 9 points. That would set up a major 4th quarter ralley that would leave the Bazalonia team wondering just what had happened.

Harris “Senister” Glenister entered the game as the 4th quarter got underway and immediately made an impact. Back to Back treys had the Mystics pulled within 3 points. Pomainville continued to dominate the paint and now with Glenister had the help he needed. By the final seconds of the game D&S had taken a 3 point lead and only a remarkable shot from just over the half-court line would send the game to overtime at 90-90.

Then the “Senister Hunter” show put the Bazalopes away for good as D&S earned a hard fought 106-102 victory over what had been the best team in the tourney to that point. Pomainville would finish with 48 points while Glenister added 19 in the 4th and OT.

That sets up a confrontation with the Suns of Myrtannia in the quarter-finals. Myrtannia has cruised to a 4-1 record with their only loss coming to Khazaron. But we feel that the tougher competition in our own group coupled with the win over Baz will lift us to the point where we can move past Myrtannia to the finals.

******************************************************************************************

The Lady Mystics face newcomers Quakmybush in the semis of the Women’s tourney. In the first meeting, Quak was more competitive than expected. But this time the Lady Mystics will not take the upstarts for granted. After the game, we should move into the finals to face one of two rivals in women’s basketball. Myrtannia and ASMV pose different threats and both are capable of winning a second title. But it is the Lady Mystics that will be looking to take home their first.

Lady Dragons To Face Myrtannia - Again

After the Hoop Dragons lost their Quarter-final match-up with Lamoni, we have nothing to say except that we wish the Hawks luck as they move on to face Khazaron.

The Lady Dragons, on the other hand, are still alive and face the Myrtannia Dryads in the semis. It seems we always run into them in games that are important. This one will be no different as both teams are trying to win a second AORBC title. And it seems that a major opponent will await the winner in the form of a very solid D&S Lady Mystics team who should beat Quakmybush in their game. The three-way race for the title seems to favor the lady Mystics as Myrtannia and ASMV will beat up on each other first. But that’s the way things go. But our plan is simple. Run til the opponent gets tired, run til we get tired, and just for the hell of it - run some more. So expect a high scoring game if the lady Dragons are on the court.

Lamoni tops Khazaron

Things couldn't be going better for Lamoni right now if God himself had annointed them. With a drubbing of Khazaron, the Hawks move on to face Myrtannia for the AORBC title game. Both Lamoni and Myrtannia have put up impressive records to this point, and both teams look like they could eat nails and human babies. Uhhhh... that was just a figure of speach, of course. The consumption of nails and human babies is not something that we encourage you to try at home, kids.

Superman and Bomber combined for fifty points, helping to put this game well out of Khazaron's reach while the Lamonian defense slowed the Khazaronian offense. Some saw this match up of the only two AORBC title winners to date as a chance for the Hawks to take revenge for Khazaron's winning of the title in AORBC II. None of this was evident on the Lamonian team; however. Both sides were friendly with each other before and after the match, but both sides were also well into the emotions of the game.

Lamoni is well on track to capturing it's second AORBC title, and a well deserved one that it would be. No one had this kind of record in mind when the Lamonian team lost that first match to Bazalonia, but whatever the coach did after that has proved to be extremely effective. Both Lamonian offense and defense has stepped up, and this team is looking almost exactly like the team that took AORBC I by storm. Myrtannia has proven to be a very good friend and ally to the Free Republic, but don't expect that to make much of a difference in this game. It will be a fight to the finish, and this sportscaster will break the mold and be a little biased. I think that Lamoni will win. They've been to the AORBC finals before, and know what to expect. They'll be scoring while Myrtannia is still standing there while dazzled from all the starting ceremonies. Okay, I better stop that now.

Lamoni - 101
Khazaron - 88

Myrtannia Slips Past D&S, ASMV; Lamoni, D&S Await in Championships

Victory in the semi-finals. After much frustration in inter-regional sporting, a Myrtannian team has finally made it past the semi-final round in knockouts. In a tournament that's seen some impressive upsets, the Suns making it to the title game couldn't have been forseen. With ASMV outed in the quarts, along with Bazalonia, then defending champion Khazaron in the semis, this could be Myrtannia's AORBC.

So far, they've been flying mostly under the radar, finishing the group stage 3-1, and then drawing a fairly easy matchup with the host Socialist Union. Once they bounced the Crimson Stars out of the tournament, Myrtannia's next opponent was the Mystics of Dorian and Sonya. While the Bazalopes had been expected to advance past the eight seed, D&S played their hearts out and took an overtime win to advance.

Myrtannia was the higher seed, but Dorian and Sonya wouldn't have let anyone know that by the way they played. The Mystics kept the pressure turned up for four quarters, and the fate of the game was always seemingly on a fine line between victory and defeat. Some even thought there was a good chance that the game might go into overtime.

Vito Munise continued his strong play with 27 points, but D&S' Hunter Pomainville nearly matched the Suns center point-for-point. With seconds ticking away in the fourth quarter, the score tied at 95, the Mystics brought in Harris Glenister, nicknamed 'Senister' by fans, to try and get them ahead. Glenister promptly nailed a jumper just inside the three point line, putting the Mystics up 97-95.

Coach Al-Hakim called a 20 second timeout, and designed a play nearly from scratch, designed to give the Suns a chance to leapfrog ahead of the Mystics. In addition, he sent reserve players Prince Manolis and Tad Trentinella out onto the court to get some fresh bodies on the floor after a physical game.

Kirby Rylant inbounded the ball to Vito, who passed it behind the back out to Manolis when a D&S defender came over to pressure him. Left open, Prince Manolis shot a three, the ball leaving his hands just as the buzzer rang. Everyone on the Myrtannian bench held their breath as the ball arced toward the hoop... and then swished in the net. Myrtannia had won at the buzzer, 98-97, beating the Curse temporarily, if not permanently.

Wild celebration at the stadium for the Suns' victory was much different than what the Myrtannia Dryads showed in their semi-final win. Playing a game where they controlled the tempo, slowing it down to a pace that Ping and Co. were comfortable with, they AORBC I women's champions slugged it out with ASMV's Lady Dragons. At the end of the close game, the Dryads just pulled away, the scoring capped with yet another Ping Seek dunk.

The question for both teams is now this: the Curse is apparently on holiday, so can one or both actually bring home a title? In the women's division, the Dryads face the still unbeaten Dorian & Sonya Lady Mystics, who advanced with a big win over upstart Quakmybush. Once again, the two teams will clash in a playoff game, this one for all the marbles. While D&S have played extremely well, Myrtannia's experience might be the difference. This one can go either way.

In the men's division, some might say the main event, Myrtannia's Suns will now face regional neighbor and AORBC I champion Lamoni. These two teams know each other quite well, having been in the same group in each of the first two tournaments. AORBC II saw Myrtannia defeat Lamoni in the third place game, the only playoff meeting between the Suns and Hawks. Lamoni's Hugh Humber has picked up the monniker of Superman in this AORBC, but he has yet to face the giant that is Vito Munise in AORBC III. Their previous clashes saw Vito operate just as well as always, and he has been called 'Humber's Kryptonite' by the media in Halosen.

Can Myrtannia win a title? Or two? All will be revealed as the final games of AORBC III begin tonight.

Myrtannia 98, Dorian & Sonya 97

LADY MYSTICS CROWNED CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the news is now official - The Lady Mystics are the best team in AO Basketball!!!. We knew this all along, but it did take some time for Myrtannia and ASMV to figure it out and let us take our place as rightful Champions. Just Kidding.

The Lady Mystics knew when the schedule was released that it was going to be a three-way race for the women’s AORBC III title between D&S, Myrtannia, and ASMV. Myrtannia had claimed the AORBC I title and the Lady Dragons had run their way to an AOBCII title. And now the Lady Mystics have claimed theirs as well - and even better - They did so without dropping a single game. No other team, men’s or women’s can say that this time around. UNDEFEATED. I like the way that sounds.

A 90-80 win over the Socialist Union started things off quite nicely for the Lady Mystics. But Quakmybush was there to keep our heads from becoming too large as they pushed us hard in an 86-83 win. Then the real tests began. ASMV’s scoring onslaught wasn’t enough to beat us as we won 86-80 then They Lady Mystics and the Dryads faced each other on Day4 in a 104-102 overtime thriller.

That meant that D&S had the number one seed in the knock-outs and managed to avoid ASMV and Myrtannia in the semi-finals. That meant another date with Quakmybush. But it would not be close this time. A 108-87 victory saw D&S set the women’s AORBC record for points in a game.

Then came the rematch with Myrtannia for the Championship. And for three and a half quarters it seemed that another OT marathon might be the case. When Lashaunda Romash fouled out with 7 minutes left everyone thought that the Dryads might be able to take control of the game and win their second title. Enter Sparkle Siles. The reserve shooting guard was pumped and ready to play. 4 three-pointers in the final 5 minutes as well as a couple of easy lay-ups on the break were enough to win her the Championship MVP. D&S had managed to win the game 94-87 and capture only the nations second title In any competition outside of the Olympics (where we really kicked some ass) The other being crowned the only AO Curling Champions.

The men did not fare as well. Khazaron proved to be too much in a 103-93 victory. But we are proud of the Mystics as they made an improbable run in the playoffs and finished 4th.
