New Club applies for Vilitan League Membership
Riailia, Vilita - After months of speculation and years of waiting, the citizens of Riailia, a small village on the coast of Turoki Isle, will have something more to cheer about in the future when the Vilitan League season rolls around. Today, the council of Riailia approved the Riailia sporting commission, and their first course of action was submitting a formal application to the Vilitan FA for inclusion in the Vilitan League system. Of course the application was, by this time, no more than a foregone formality, but it was still a very proud moment for all the residents in the small, secluded village of Riailia.
------------While Riailia Village AFC will not be admitted until season four, and even then, will be playing no higher than the lower divisions, just having a recognized sporting franchise is more than enough for the anxious citizens, who have already begun placing pre-orders for Tickets and Apparral, and are lending all the can to help the completion of their new stadium on the outskirts of the Village. Many citizens, however, are optimistic enough about their localized ability in the sport, that they would not be surprised to see their new team make it to the Proper of the Vilitan Cup at the first attempt.

Stars' success key to league's popularity
Four years ago, Vice President for Health and Athletics Jimmy Marshall and Sarzonain Football Confederation Commissioner Buddy Landry sat down in Marshall's office. Sarzonia did not have a football team, nor did they even have a league yet. Officially sanctioned competitive football in Sarzonia ended with college teams. Only informal amateur leagues existed throughout Sarzonia.
The men had little to work with but an idea and a dream. Their idea was to create a top-flight Sarzonian football league and then use the players from that league to establish a national football team.
Their task was not easy. They had to convince people who were making their livelihoods doing things other than football to relive their dreams of playing football at the highest level. They had to talk sponsors into funding a league that would most likely take at least eight years to break even, let alone generate any profit. They had to gamble that a public not accustomed to watching professional sports would embrace their league and the sport.
Fast forward to four years later. The Sarzonian national team is currently in a first place tie in Group 9 of the World Cup qualifying competition in its first-ever attempt. The team captured the Baptism of Fire Cup, dominating the competition by winning all six matches and outscoring opponents 17-2. In a tough region for football, the fledgling Sarzonians finished a surprising third in the AOCAF tournament and gave regional power Vilita all it could handle before losing in extra time in the semifinals.
The league, which some pundits predicted would go bankrupt after year two, generated its first profit after Nicksia Knights and Sarzonian national team midfielder Darwin Russell was sold to Parkville F.C. in the NEWI Cefn Druids league. Season ticket sales increased dramatically after both the strong finish in the AOCAF tournament and the championship in the Baptism of Fire Cup.
"We didn't know what to expect from our league and our players when we got this started," Landry said. "The response to the team and the league has been nothing short of spectacular. We've been getting reports that Darwin is doing very well over in Parkville and with our lads doing well internationally (the team's 2-0 loss to NEWI Cefn Druids was the first loss in 14 matches for the Stars), it can only mean good things for Sarzonian football."
The league started with eight teams but now has expanded to 12. Playoff ratings, which were always "robust," according to Sarzonian National Network chairman Andrea Brokaw, were "through the roof," last season. The final between the Portland Timbers and the Woodstock Wild, the third matchup in four Cup finals between those teams, generated a 46 rating.
"We thought we might do well, but I'd be lying if I said we thought we'd do that well," Brokaw said. "We're definitely delighted." |

Third Druid league (eventually) completed...
The Daily Druid
TRIBUNE SAVE THEMSELVES AND DENY ALBION ELUSIVE FIRST TITLE Wayne Ottgunn-Irwin reports on the last day of the Druid season
The scene was set. The home team, Druid Tribune, needed to win to secure their position in the NCD Premier. The visitors, Cefn Albion, needed to win to clinch the championship. When Tribune scored with just fifteen minutes on the clock, it seemed like it would be just a minor blip in the Albion celebrations. But then Albion couldn't get a goal no matter what they tried. Time ticked away, and Albion couldn't get through. Meanwhile, Tribune's main rivals, Coleford Town, were up against Cranbury United. But in hte end, it was irrelevant. Town went down, and Albion had the title snatched away from them at the last minute by Bessburg, a team who almost went out of business way back in the first ever Druid season, but are now stably run, and the championship was definately won by the best team, especially considering that the Mighty Reds were a lowly tenth after twelve games.

Old Guard call time on international careers
Following Starblaydia's elimination from the World Cup, some of the older members of the Squad have decided it is time to settle down away from International Football Tournaments. Here's a chance to remeber their great careers in service of Starblaydia.
Corinthian Spirits' Goalkeeper Boaz Myhill, 35, is Starblaydia's record International Cap-holder, having also kept more clean sheets for his nation than any other 'keeper, as well as appearing in five separate tournaments for his country, more than any other player. Though still included in the squad for the Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football, it is likely that Boaz will not stand between the sticks for his country again.
Ryan Garry, 34, has stepped down as both Captain and player for Starblaydia. He had made it clear that this was his last hurrah on the international stage and will see out the remainder of his playing days as club captain of Vecchio Victors, the only professional club he has ever played for, a true Starblaydi hero. He has said this retirement will happen before the Cup of Harmony, giving both the new captain and the player to fill his position (widely believed to be Rastian Salaam ahead of Vladimir Tsarev) time to bed down into their roles.
Internashionale's Matthew Kilgallon, 34, is also calling it a day as the influx of much younger centre-backs have overtaken him. From the same club, Fabricio de Souza Lima has asked to be taken out of the picture for any future tournaments unless desperately needed. He says that his thrity-one year-old body cannot keep up with both national and international games, so has taken semi-retirement to keep on playing at club level. |

2006 Lega Pedollis Aquilianae Complete
Everyone knew at the start of this season that it would be a close race between juggernauts Mentarium and Nidola FC, ranked #1 and #2 in the country, respectively. And there was no disappointment. Nidola ended up on top of Seria Optima, beating out Mentarium by only 2 points, while Mentarium was 7 points ahead of its closest rival.
There were some surprises, though. Prospicores, predicted by many experts to finish last in the division, finished in 4th place, with 16 wins (t-2nd), and a +16 goal differential (2nd). At the other end, Facundia, ranked #4 at the start of the year, ended up in 12th place, only 6 points from relegation. It'll be interesting to see if they can pick up some offense this off-season to help out National Team goalkeeper Stocus Marmoreus.

Starblaydi Leagues Revised New Look for Starblaydia and Nova Britannicus' Leagues.
In the season before WC17 starts, as Starblaydia compete in the Eagles Cup 3 (OOC: Just to place the time for you), the Starblaydi Football Association (SFA) has ordered a complete re-structuring of the Divisional Make-ups. After intense consultations with Chairmen, Managers, Senior Players and Fans, a complete restructure has taken place.
Each of the 3 Newly=formed Divisions will be limited to 7 (seven) teams each. This will mean a sever cut for the Alpha Division, as 5 teams are dropped from the previous 'Alpha Club' of 12. Both Beta and newly-formed Gamma Divisions will incorporate three teams from the Nemyan Provinces and the six teams from the six City-States of the nation of Nova Britannicus. One team will be promoted and relegated per league, with obviously no promotions from the Alpha or relegations from the Gamma.
To divide the clubs, a forumla accepted by all the clubs was used, based mostly on recent League Positions, but also on numbers and quality of International Players at the clubs. The split is as follows:
Starblaydi Alpha Division: 1 Basian Valley 2 Corinthian Spirits 3 Hallad Reavers 4 Internashionale 5 Iskara Daii 6 Jhanna City 7 Vecchio Victors
Comments: Iskara Daii and Inernashionale look to be well ahead of the field, with Corinthian Spirits not far behind. Jhanna City look likely to prop up the rest of the table.
Starblaydi Beta Division: 1 Beverington Hawks 2 Foxchester Raiders 3 Jhanna United 4 Penningworth United 5 Phraen Palace 6 Tabeck FC 7 Tuncastle Rovers
Comments: Somebody had to get the drop from Alpha to Beta, but its surprising that its happened to the Pennies. They are certainly a class above the other teams, with the Nova Britannican Clubs, Beverington or Tuncastle in particular, expecting to be dropped.
Starblaydi Gamma Division: 1 Hecia 2 Hernsworth Cubs 3 Hersch Albion 4 Montepool Waves 5 Tournetas 6 Veles 7 Widdrington Wolves
Comments: The Gamma is much of a muchness, with the likely winner coming from former-Alpha club Albion, or perhaps Hernsworth or Montepool. The Nemyan Province of Veles is expected to be the 21st-best team in the whole of Starblaydia.
The Tiberius Cup will be played for by the entire league with the following format: (OOC:controversial at the 3rd Round - Well how else can you do a 21-team knockout competition?)
Round 1: The 14 teams from the Beta and Gamma Divisons are randomly paired off and play one game, with replays at the opposite ground deciding any draws, with penalties deciding any of those draws.
Round 2: The 7 Winners and the 7 Alpha League Divison teams are randomly paired off, with the same format as Round 1.
Round 3: One team receives a 'lucky' bye, drawn at random from the Seven Winners of Round 2. Otherwise, the remaining 6 teams are randomly paired up, with the same format as Round 1.
Semi-Finals: The three Round 3 Winners and 1 Bye team are randomly paired and play single games at neutral venues. Penalties after extra-time will decide any ties.
Final: The two finalists meet at a neutral venue, with the same format as the Semi. |

It was the match against relegation and due to this really emotional. 3 goals and 6 red cards were the result of this match. Despite the higher score for Fortuna Stallman, both teams lost: The weakened Fortuna could not defeat Lteni/Iltenji FC and due to that has to play in the to be created Second Division next season.

NANN Evening News Sports
"Hello everyone, thanks for staying tuned to NANN. There's a lot going on in sports these days in Ainorpisp, with two pro leagues in action and a third being set up to begin. First, we go to international competition with the 3rd installment of the premier sporting event in Atlantian Oceania - the AOCAF. The championship match took place today and it was a nail-biter."
"Ainorpispian fans who've been watching the tournament intently throughout its entire duration couldn't wait for this one - the title match between Starblaydia and Two-Time Defending Champion NEWI Cefn Druids. Many fans here in Ainorpisp were fully behind the Starblaydis, hoping their regional neighbors might finish a terrific tournament with the Cup. They almost did too, but when it came down to the wire, NEWI takes home the hardware again, 4-3. Rumor has it that Ainorpisp may send a team if there is an AOCAF IV."
"Now to action closer to home, and the debut of the Ainorpispian Football League. After competing in the Ainorpisp Invitational, Briseis Yeomen have stormed out of the gates like hungry cougars. None of the other clubs in the Ainorpispian Division have stood a chance against the Yeomen thus far. They continued their dominance today with a 4-0 win over Wiesbaden Federated, lead by Pierre Zupont, the Yeomen's leading scorer this season."
Standings for AFL, mid-season Ainorpispan Division (W-L, GF/GA, GD) 1. Briseis Yeomen (13-0, 24/14, +10) 2. NuTone Trojans (9-4, 18/10, +8) 3. Everglade Villa (8-5, 15/11, +4) 4. Wiesbaden Federated (4-9, 7/21, -14)
National Division (W-L, GF/GA, GD) 1. Sarmatia Cavaliers (10-3, 22/9, +13) 2. North Coast (8-5, 17/12, +5) 3. Heidelberg (7-6, 14/14, +0) 4. Avalon United (3-10, 5/25, -20)
"And finally, the National Softball Association - NSA, for those new to the league - will go to the playoffs this week. The first games will be played after a short break for the qualifying teams. Many of the stars of the Olympic softball squad are now in the league, and here's how the ones who're in the playoffs did during the regular season:"
Roberta Alfwood (C, Heidelberg) - hit .289, 5 HR, 85 RBIs
Stass Krytenko (1B, Semaphore) - .250 BA, 2 HR, 77 RBIs, 49 SB
Katarina Kingston (3B, Briseis) - .270 BA, 0 HR, 59 RBIs, 40 SB
Becca Tepes (SS, Everglade Villa) - .357 BA, 36 HR, 110 RBIs
Gwyn Ortega (SP, Everglade Villa) - 1.432 ERA, 94 SO, 4 ER

NSA National Series Heats Up
"The talk of the town in the world of Ainorpispian sports right now is the National Softball Association playoffs entering their championship series. Both the Semaphore Wykings and the Everglade Villa Valkyries advanced with resounding victories in the opening round, and now face each other in a much-hyped National Series."
"Going into the Series, Semaphore looks as strong as it's been all season long, lead on offense once again by Stass Krytenko (1B). Against the favored Briseis Amazons, she hit .325 with 12 RBIs and 1 HR to lead the Wykings to their Division Title. After falling behind 2 games to 0, the Wykings rallied to win the next 4 straight, and advance to the Series."
"In the Southern Division, Everglade Villa entered the favorite and did not dissapoint. It really didn't seem like Heidelberg ever stood much of a chance against the overpowering Valkyries. E.V. outscored the Mustangs 30-4 in a first round sweep, powered by perrenial power-hitter Becca Tepes (5 HR, 14 RBIs, .450 BA VS Heidelberg)."
