Daii Look to Clear Up Croup C
Lamonians? Bettians? Nojikans? Ha!

Iskara Daii, for so long the most dominant team in Starblaydia, have been drawn against - wait for it - a team from Lamoni's captial city, a Nojikan team no-one's ever heard of, plus some Bettians who were in the running for the NSFA Champions' League Qualification, were it not for the misspelling of their city's name.

All in all, it should be an easy qualifying round for teams such as the Daii, the Owls, the Wild. Whether you look at the AOCAF-only rankings, or go off to the world KPB rankings, the teams from Starblaydia, Vilita, Sarzonia and even the Krytenians, Druidans and Nova Britannicans should really have this one in the bag.

"Please, do not be underestimating the chances of the other teams in Group C," said Tuade Lue who is - among other things - the Daii Manager, a two-time World Cup Champion and part of the Rejistanian All-Time team, "in this moment, anything can happen. Of course we are wanting to win, but this is football."

Liga Starblaydia Champs Go For It
Monty, Monty, Monty! Waves, Waves, Waves!

The Montepool Waves, who in Season 4 finally became the first team from Nova Britannicus to lift the Liga Starblaydia title, lined up against just one vaguely-familiar team, Fabricio de Souza Lima's FC Albertine.

Nick Matranga, certainly the first and arguably the only Montepool player to get in the World Cup Hall of Fame, had this to say about Montepool's chances:

"Montepool is a good team, y'know? A Liga Starblaydia title and a Tiberius Cup in the past three seasons is pretty bloody good return for their efforts. It's a good front-two pairing up front, a good midfield and now they've got a good defence, full of Starblaydi and Britannican national-team players. They can take this group easily, I would have thought."

[ 95 ] Jawz Oaker [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 18 GOALS::SR: U21: REG: )
Jawz Oaker is the son of Colonial Sile and Oaker national midfielder Arthin Oaker, who moved to Vilita early in his career after his impressive performances for Oaker in past World Cups. Jawz was called up to the Vilita Under 21 squad as Oaker did not participate in the Under-21's, qualifying through his residency and his Mother, a Vilitan. The young keeper spent most of Season 15 on loan to Mavaloiao, before being recruited by Doug Freech's Lopinka side, Declasse champions looking for a starting keeper for their return campain in the Stellar Division. However, hometown Makosile's vast improvements in Season 16 saw the youngster quick to return home to bask in the spotlight with one of Vilita's rising new powers. Despite earning the Goalkeeper of the year award, Oaker's team was not able to compete and spent more time at the bottom of the table then the top, prompting the young keeper to depart once again, this time to Champions League bound inland Peaks FC.

[ 3 ] Jaloey Afrikka [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]
------- D LC ( AGE: 35 GOALS::SR: 0 U21: 1 REG: 1 )
Jaloey Afrikka is one of the quiet talents in the Vilita lineup. A regular in the team since graduating from the Under-21 side, Jaloey is always in the roster somewhere, either starting or on the bench, when the Vilitan teamsheet is announced. With the retirement of Vilitan defensive legends Giacomo Adika and Enzo Ahat, Afrikka finds himself as first-choice Central Defender for the World Cup 19 Finals. Afrikka will have added confidence after returning home to Jlinal Cove FC, the club where he got his start, after a stint in the Stellar Division with Turoki Isle and Strike FC. The well travelled Afrikka isone of few players known to have featured for the Vilitan Trio, after signing with Yeaddin Owls, Afrikka featured for Strike FC and Marine Coast United in addition to a host of other teams throughout his career. Afrikka has announced his retirement following World Cup 22.

[ 2 ] Dereck Rateau [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]

[ 5 ] Rechbai Lianoa [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]

[ 6 ] Kieran Gonchar [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]

[ 28 ] Brad Edwards [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]

[ 23 ] Brent Tamang [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]

[ 24 ] Warwick Coleei [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]
------- M LC ( Non-International)

[ 21 ] Calaesa Mitaroka [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]
------- M RLC ( AGE: 35 GOALS::SR: 4 U21: 2 REG: 4 )
Mitaroka's Performances for Yeaddin in Season One earned him Youth Player of the Year Honors along with Yeaddin's Stellar Division Championship in the Inagural Vilitan season. Mitaroka never developed into the powerhouse force that was expected from his early performances, but is expected to make a great coach one day do to his leadership both on and off the field at Yeaddin Owls AFC. Mitaroka has indicated he may retire from the International scene after the World Cup Finals in Turori, to concentrate on coaching and regional competitions. After a long and successful career at Yeaddin Owls AFC, Mitaroka moved to Inland Peaks in Season 17 to take on a role as Player/Manager

[ 18 ] Noel Adiguzel [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]
------- F C ( Crystilakere International )

[ 19 ] Riccardo Appolloni [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 28 GOALS::SR: 7 U21: 13 REG: 0 )
Riccardo Appolloni came through the youth ranks at Mavaloio before transferring to Yeaddin Owls AFC and quickly displacing Jan Christiansen from his role as first choice striker. Appolloni also one-upped Christiansen by earning a regular role in the Vilitan National team, something Christiansen was never able to do. The third largest transfer in Vilitan History at the time saw Appolloni depart his beloved Owls for up-and-coming Inland Peaks FC. The Peaks used the transfer income from the sale of Ade Hinds, Martin Watt, Aman Dedur and mostly Under-21 forward Kris Wrice to sign the Vilitan International, signalling their intentions to be respected as a top class team in Vilita for seasons to come.

FC Albertine fear Group E

GROUP E:
FC Albertine (Spruitland)
Montepool Waves (Nova Britannicus)
Rozier City FC (Nojika)
Karakan Wolves (Lamoni)

The Spruitland Champions are not very hopeful of surviving the group stage of the Atlantian Oceanian Champions League, being drawn in what coach Fabricio de Souza Lima refers to as “a tough group”. Despite a promising start in the NSCL, the recent 10-1 aggregate pounding by a Bedistani team in the NSFA seems to have dropped morale severely.

“It’s not that bad,” de Souza Lima says. “It’s just being realistic. At this point, every group would be a tough group for us. If I’m not mistaken, only the top finisher in the group is assured of a spot in the next round. Let’s face it, that’s gonna be hard for us, probably too hard.”

“We’re hoping to steal a few points, though. The goal will be to not finish last in the group. Can’t say I know the Nojikan and Lamonian team very well, but I doubt they’ll be easy opponents. We’ll see.”

“The Montepool Waves I know quite well. Normally I’d say we don’t stand much of a chance against them, but we may just have a few aces up our sleeves. With a little luck, we’ll be able to pull off a little upset against them.”

FC Albertine

Stadium: Industrial Arena, Albertine - capacity 25,500 (12,000 seated)

Brief history:
FC Albertine is one of the four original teams of the Spruitland First Division and they won the title in this first season. An abysmal performance in Season 2 saw the early dismissal of their coach, and his replacement, Starblaydi legend Fabricio de Souza Lima, turned the team around for Season 3, winning both the First Division championship and the Spruit Cup in its first incarnation.

Coach: Fabricio de Souza Lima (Starblaydia)

Line-up:

1. Johan Verbeek (GK)
2. Izzy Donck (DR)
3. Martin Vos (DL)
4. Steven Muster (DC)
5. Jakke Budts (DC)
6. Freddy De Beer (DM C)
7. Ito Yun Sang (AM/F R)
8. Louis De Witte (ST)
9. Dirk Jools (ST)
10. Eduard Haacht (AM C)
11. Curt Van Daele (AM L)

12. Gerwald de Wind (GK)
14. Eddie Engels (MRC)

Current internationals:

Dirk Jools is Spruitland’s star striker, playing a starring role at the recent Baptism of Fire, and the Wabbits’ top-scorer with 4 goals in 4 caps (he also scored 6 goals in 9 U-21 caps). Johan Verbeek was part of the BoF-squad as well, as back-up goalie.
Young regular substitute Eddie Engels has been a substitute at the previous two Under-21 World Cups, totaling 2 appearances.

Champions Confident

Reigning national champions Hypocrium City may quietly fancy their chances in Group D of the AO Champions League. Fmjphoenix side Sunnyslope FC, Nedalia’s Rappor FC and Thiel United of Spruitland provide the opposition for the Hypocrian champions.

“It’s a good draw for us,” coach Zvonimir Roeder stated. “Obviously there are no easy games at this level but we certainly could have got a much tougher group.”

Hypocrium City – City of Hypocrium Stadium (62,000 capacity)

Coach – Zvonimir Roeder

Formation 5-3-2

First Choice Starting 11

Gk – Alex Derevko

Reavers Worried

The champions may be pleased with their group but the same cannot be side down in Pylos. Pylos Reavers have been drawn in Group A and will play against the current AOCL holders, Sarzonia’s Woodstock Wild, Vilitan side Inland Peaks and Druidan champions Coleford Town.

“It’s a terrible group,” said a passing Reavers fan. “Inland Peaks have already dumped Hypocrium City out of the NS Champions League, Coleford are the champions of Druida and Woodstock won the whole damn competition last time. There’s always next season I suppose.”

Thiel ready for Hypocrium City

GROUP D:

Sunnyslope FC (Fmjphoenix)
Thiel United (Spruitland)
Rappor FC (Nedalia)
Hypocrium City (Hypocria)

With Thiel United’s abysmal record in international competitions so far, the Spruitland runners-up are not expected to survive the group stage. Thiel will be hoping to at least put an end to their international losing streak though, and Hypocria champions Hypocrium City will be their main target.

“Since the BoF, there’s a healthy rivalry between Hypocria and Spruitland,” international Nico Van Dyck says. “It’s not quite as pronounced on a club team level as with the national teams, but we’ll still be extremely motivated for this match-up.”

Thiel United

Stadium: Tootsie Field, Thiel - capacity 21,000 (9,200 seated)

Brief history:

Thiel United is one of the four original teams of the First Division. They ended third in this first season and were runners-up in Season 2 and 3, making them the most consistent First Division team so far. Their international experience is limited to an abysmal appearance in the Takil Cup and an early exit in NSFA Cup 2.

Coach:
Lars Poulet

Team:

1. Sammy Samuelsen - GK
2. Rigoberto (Starblaydia) - DR
3. Paul Strutt - DL
4. Nico Van Dyck - DC
5. Ulrich De Ridder - MC
6. Willy Dickson - MC
7. Fred Starr - AM R
8. Carl Karlus - ST
9. Ben Thorsen - ST
10. Jeff Wong - AM/F C
11. Balt Luyckx - AM L

Internationals:

Starblaydi ex-international Rigoberto may be past his prime at 37 and not move much faster than a limping turtle, but his contributions to Thiel’s defense are still substantial.
Nico Van Dyck was captain of the Under-21 team for two World Cups and is currently a starter in the senior squad, as is left winger Balt Luyckx. Striker Ben Thorsen and attacking midfielder Jeff Wong are part of the Spruitland national squad as well, as substitutes.

Tough Opener For Pats

ARI Smith was left contemplting the task ahead of him after the draw for the AO Champion's League Group Phase. Drawing Nedalian side Shoreland United may not be too bad, and Akani Sands of Bettia may only make up the numbers, but then there is the problem of the reigning champions' first game - a trip to none other than the Yeaddin Owls.

Last time Krytenian fans were in Yeaddin, it lead to a skirmish between the forces of Krytenia and Xile in the air and diplomatically. This time, we're hoping for the battling to be done ON the pitch.

The Squad:
Ryan KELLEHER GK KRY
Iain VOULANT GK KRY
Gerry JANCKER GK KRY
Arthur MASIULIS LB KRY
Andy PAPANIKOLAOU LB KRY
Vernon POLYAKH RB KRY
Andrew DRUGACHONOK RB KRY
Matthew GILL CB KRY
Oliver GONZALES CB KRY
Ryan PHILLIPE CB KRY
Vernon DE GOEY CB KRY
Norman FIGUEIREDO LM KRY
Daniel GAJDOSIK LM KRY
Nigel COLE RM KRY
Dan ALMADA RM KRY
Andrew BABICHEV CM KRY
Steven ZHUKOV CM KRY
Eddie SEBASTIEN CM KRY
Samuel TENYA CM KRY
Ari PHESAS CF KRY
Damian SOKOLOV CF KRY
Peter MARQUEZ CF KRY
Paul STURM CF KRY

No current Caleys in the squad, however Nigel Cole has thirteen caps for the former Nova Mercia, and Dan Almada has played in the quartered shirt for the Krytenia B side.

Lamonian teams ready to compete

The top two teams in the Lamonian Football league, the Nephi Bears and the Karakan Wolves have been fitted into groups C and E respectively. Despite the fact that the Nephi Bears have won the Lamonian Cup, they are going to be facing a very tough match against Starblaydia's Iskara Daii. The Bears would do well to snatch second in this group.

Meanwhile, the second place Karakan Wolves should have a slightly easier time of it. "We are honored that the LFL has decided to send us to compete internationally. We will be facing some tough opponents, but I feel confident that we shall make a good showing." This from Karakan coach Mel Tiburon.

Official rosters for both teams are expected to be posted soon.

Woodstock Wild roster (starters in bold):
Coach: David Bostwick

GOALKEEPERS
30 Horace Sandt~: Sandt is coming off status as the Most Outstanding Player of World Cup XXII, allowing three goals during the run of play in 17 matches. He also won the inaugural AO Champions League trophy.
1 Brian Tawes: Ironically, this is the same goalkeeper configuration the most successful Under 21 team had. Tawes was beaten out by Sandt again.

DEFENDERS
2 Mike Coyle~: Stars for the national team and has earned his spot as one of the fastest players on the Wild.
5 Gerald Ruff: Plays left center back and works very well with Coyle.
6 Harvey Benson: Just named the starter at right center back. Still hasn't developed chemistry with Ruff yet.
12 Trevor Crenshaw~: Solidified a spot on the national team with his play in the AOCAF IV tournament. Has become a steady player for Coach David Bostwick.
15 Corey Tolliver: The former starter at right center back, Tolliver has lost a step but was never really fast to begin with. Has great chemistry with Ruff, so can be the first player off the bench if the Wild needs to tighten up its defense.
16 John Mason: Can play either defense or midfield, and plays whichever role he's needed. He can hold possession of the ball even in the tightest spaces.

MIDFIELDERS
13 James West: Can play either midfielder or forward and will be called on as an offensive substitute if the Wild is trailing.
8 Peter Salivera: Shuts down opposing playmakers like few midfielders in the league. He is one of the best players at studying game film and picking up tendencies of opponents.
9 Darrell Bennett~: Called up to the second choice national team for the AOCAF tournament but he's looking for a chance to start on the senior team.
10 Bobby Convey: Team captain. A World Cup veteran and a key member of both Stars championship teams, Convey will be looked to for leadership and experience.
11 Lane Carrollton: The best all-around player on the team, but he can get a bit distracted. He usually saves his best games for the most important moments.

FORWARDS
21 Brian Wilson~: He may be the national team captain, but Convey hasn't ceded his role to Wilson for the Wild. Usually scores the team's biggest goals.
17 Mike Lemke: Needs great service from Convey to excel since he's a pure striker. Led the team in goals, but he's usually the first player to be substituted.

~ - Full Sarzonian international
^ - Former Under 21 national teamer

Bettians Up For The Cup, err, League

The draw has been made, and Akani Sands and Gabalfa Rovers are digesting what appear to be two tough groups.

First up for the Storm are Nedalians Shoreland Utd (freshly dispatched from the NSFA Cup by Bettia's own Gabalfa City), closely followed by two-time winners of the NS Champions League Yeaddin Owls. After that come Patriots Everton of Krytenia.

Probable Starting Eleven for Akani Sands FC

1 GK Ricardo DiTorino - age 19 (14 caps)
2 LB Sabir Fikri - age 26
3 CB Ian Redpath - age 26
4 CB Stuart Buchannan - age 28
5 RB John Hanson - age 20 (15 U21 caps)
6 LM Karim Breitenstein - age 22
7 CM Sammy Ewene - age 18 (Nedalia, 1 U21 cap)
8 CM Trent Hardman - age 21 (Nedalia, 15 caps, 1 goal)
9 RM Ionwen Mirza - age 27
10 CF John Harding - age 28 (20 caps, 15 goals)
11 CF Zak Haynes - age 26

12 GK Phillip Payne - age 21
13 CB Eirwen Johnstone - age 23
14 RB Owain Nash - age 29
15 CM Justin Lewis - age 27
16 CF Gwrlais Devenallt - age 16 (1 U21 cap, 1 goal)

Gabalfa Rovers don't seem to have fared much better, having been drawn against Corl Cove FC of Nojika, Starblaydia's Iskara Daii, and Nephi Bears of Lamoni.

Probable Starting Eleven for Gabalfa Rovers

1 GK Amir Bettison - age 32 (45 caps)
2 LB Amir Bin Da'ud - age 28 (32 caps)
3 CB Musa Williams - age 27 (32 caps)
4 CB Rob Hurst - age 20 (9 U21 caps)
5 CB Clydai Mihangel - age 30
6 RB Jeremy Gibbons - age 29
7 LM Kevin Salisbury - age 17
8 CM Fadl Ahmed - age 17 (10 U21 caps, 1 goal)
9 RM Evan Brooks - age 27 (46 caps, 13 goals)
10 CF Gethin Ward - age 29 (21 caps, 14 goals)
11 CF Tariq Al-Jahani - age 18 (14 U21 caps, 3 goals)

12 GK Rajab Hopkins - age 27
13 CB Jamie Nicholas - age 28
15 CM Greg Hunter - age 21
16 RM Richard Samwell - age 33
17 CF Paul Jacobs - age 19

Of course, first impressions don't always last. However, given Bettia's lousy record in regional competition, it looks like our boys could be free to concentrate on the World Cup sooner rather than later.

With the 2nd AO CL ready to get underway under none other than Nedalian supervision, the excitement that might have taken the Nedalian fans over has only been doubled considering Nedalia's role in the competition.

The top two teams from Year One of the Premier League, Shoreland United and Rappor FC, have both been drawn into tough groups, one that will see them display much effort and heart to proceed to the 2nd round. Shoreland United have been drawn in the same group as powerhouse Yeaddin Owls from Vilita, Patriots Everton from Krytenia, and Akani Sands, from Nedalia's neighboring country, and close friend, Bettia.

Rappor FC, on paper, have it easier than the champions, having been drawn with Sunnyslope FC from Fmjphoenix, Thiel United from Spruitland, and Hypocrium City from Hypocria. As stated, on paper, Rappor should have an easier time in its quest to get to the 2nd round of the competition.

SHORELAND UNITED:

GK: Ghanem Murkadi

LD: Jorge Lomsany
CD: Killef
CD: Munas Urtene
RD: Xavier Alexander

LM: Nene
CM: Gary Packard
CM: Jamal Aantar

Druidan side Bessburg are the group favourites, while the Saugerties Snakes and Vanguard Eagles, from Sarzonia and FMJPhoenix respectively, are equally strong side. But so are the Sabres. This could be a close group, and in a tantalising appetiser to the "Cafetiere Cup" international, it's Vanguard up first.

Leo GUDRUNSSEN GK KRY
Sonny HANSEN LB KRY
Carl ILIE LB KRY
