The selection is going on...

Any comments so far ? ;-) What opponents would you want for your home land ?

Posted by: Milchama Dec 9 2005, 05:48 PM
Its already over but I think the U.S. can advance if they get a good result agains the Czech Republic. That game at least in my predictions hinges on whether they get to the next round or falter.

Need to Advance:
CZE: W, D
ITA: L, D
GHA:W, W

A win over the czechs and we're in but if we draw the czechs and then draw the Italians will still have chance. Of course I am assuming we beat Ghana which may be bad thing but the best African team is probably the Ivory Coast so I should not be too worried right?

Posted by: Starblaydia Dec 9 2005, 05:58 PM
The Czechs will kick ass in that Group. Ghana are one of the stronger African teams, as they're strong and quick. While Italy are just always Italy. Its probably the closest in this Draw to a Group of Death, as there's not too much to choose between the teams.

Ghana is currently my home, and I love Cote d'Ivoire (our western neighbors)...but Togo and Angola won't be pushing any of the top teams too much. Angola vs. Portugal is interesting considering Angola used to be a portuguese colony and they absolutely despise them. Tunisia are the most boring team in Africa and never do anything on the World Cup stage. Its a shame Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire are in such tough groups, cuz they are the strongest teams Africa has put out in atleast a decade (since Nigeria in 1994 and Cameroon in 1990.)

Go T&T!

Posted by: Bettia Dec 10 2005, 09:24 AM
We haven't beaten Sweden for 30 years so we're well overdue a win there. Paraguay? T&T? We'll just help ourselves to six points, ta very much smile.gif

The part that worries me most about Group E is that not only is it possibly the most difficult group to advance out of, in terms of team strength (though Group C might surpass it slightly), but with Brazil being F1, and the odds-on favorite to win the group, it'll take winning the group to avoid having to face the defending champs in the round of 16. That said, it should be a fun one to watch, and nice to not have to be up at 5 am or earlier to see it live this time around smile.gif

Posted by: Latao Dec 11 2005, 06:25 AM
I think Togo shouldn't be too much of a problem for us, South Korea is more difficult, they seem to be good...and finally I think it is possible for Switz to defeat France, as they had strongest problems with us not only once...even England didn't defeat Switzerland with ease... :-)

USA isn't going to beat Italia man..forget it tongue.gif

Posted by: Starblaydia Dec 11 2005, 11:38 AM
Apparently England's route to the Final will be probably be:

Group > Poland > Holland > Brazil > Italy

Which is pretty difficult. But if you wanna be the man, you gotta beat the man.

For your entertainment pleasure, here is my completely uninformed and almost certainly incorrect, yet scientific, prediction.

How I came up with these results: Simply put, I scorinated the relevant matches using the same scorinator I use to do the Bedistan Premier League. Sequential ranks as shown at www.eloratings.net were used. So without further ado, here we go.

Now I understand where the Chicago Tribune got it from:

Bedi are you actually a Chicago Tribune sports reporter in disguise?

The day the US makes it to the third-place final I may just have to kill myself. And Argentina will not be second in that group. It'll be a tough go, but let's be reasonable here, folks. tongue.gif Argentina rules.

What if the U.S. win the World Cup in this go? Are you going to strap yourself to a Maglev rail and have me send over the City of New Orleans? tongue.gif

The US doesn't go anywhere! HAHAH! Yes... fifth best in the world my arse. BURNNN

GO ARGENTINA!!!!!

(and in other news, looks like Bedi's Group G/H predictions were quite solid in fact)

2/3rds of the second round match-ups are right, which is very clever of your scorinatro, Bedi.

Oh and you Canadian, your team is soooo great, stop ragging on the US until you guys actually get somewhere in CONCACAF qualifying or maybe *gasp* make a World Cup.

*me LAUGHS! in your face*

The only reason the US made it to the World Cup? The fact that it's not hard to qualify for the World Cup finals when the rest of the teams in your federation also suck except for Mexico, and you're only slightly better than the sucky ones. US for the loss, man. Stop dreaming.
