Deposit required to enter Latao

Starting from Monday, April 11, citizen of countries with a GDP per capita of less than $10.000 per year will need to deposit a security of 50 Latinums per day of their stay.
The deposit must be paid onto a bank account in Latao, latest on the date of entry latest and will be returned on the day of departure.

The deposit is used as a security for people of the specified countries in cases where medicine or other public support provided by the state of Latao is needed, or in case a departure is not possible until the date specified in the visa of the traveler.

The deposit does not replace the possibility of the need of a visa. Please note, that embassies in abroad do not draw visas directly, instead requests are submitted to the office for migration & traveling in Latao. This means, that your request may take up to 10 weeks to proceed. Embassies in some countries offer the possibility of express visas to accelerate the process.

Express visas can be requested in countries with the ‘preferred economy partner’-status; countries with a GDP per capita of at last $30.000 per year.

Countries with a yearly GDP per capita of over $40.000 per year do not require a visa to enter Latao if their stay is not longer than 90 days per year and no longer than 30 days in a row.

The Empire wishes to thank Latao for restricting those that can enter its cities. Many Roman tourists have expressed their dismay over the putrid scum walking the streets of Latao. The new deposit requirement, we hope, will deter such filth from gracing your nation's most prestigious avenues.

Official Statement from the Chacorian Ministry for AO Affairs

As a nation which has a GDP per capita of $10,042.96 - $42 higher than the required limit, the Government is highly against this new approach of immigration policy by Latao, and condemns it, but it is their decision to do so. The Government would like to note this has led to a possible block against Latao's joining of the FLMS, although that is unlikely to happen.

The Free Republic has decided to come out against the restrictive immigration policy by Latao, as financial status should have nothing to do with freedom of movement. However, we also recognize Latao's right to self-governance.

Official Statement, Incorporated Sarzonian Government

The Incorporated States of Sarzonia hereby condemns this short-sighted act of pocketbook piracy on the part of Latao. In response to this craven act of theft, we announce that Sarzonian citizens are expressly forbidden to pay even one cent of the deposit. We note that our GDP is well over the limit; however, we will not tolerate any attempts to collect revenue from our citizens.

We also announce that any goods coming from Latao shall be penalised with a tariff of six percent of the market value of said goods.

The Latao Seceretary of Internal Affairs stands up for Latao's restrictive entry policies:

It's a known fact, proven in numerous studies, that poor countries 'export' above-average ciminality. Organized groups from specific countries enter Latao to perform rubberies and other violent acts.

The Ministry is also discussing to strengten the policies by adding a conditition for an unemplyoment rate to categorize foreign nations:

By adding new factors to the calculation, we gain a better seperation and can therefore make the process more fair for all. The new condition could be, that a deposit and/or a visa maybe required for nations with an unemplyoment rate of 10-15 % or countries that spend very little on law&order education and prevention

We think, that we serve also the protesting nations, as we are actually doing their job, which we did for free so far. If these nations fail, to ensure their people respect the law, because they do not provide enough education, support and law enforcement, this task is up to Latao while these people reside on our territory. This is just another expensive service we bring for other nations that may not do enough on this subject - the deposit therefore is a security for both parties.

Marcus looked at the reports regarding Latao's integration policy: "So, the Latins want to keep us out all together?! Hardly a kind gesture to an ally! Not only that, but criminals!?!? Haven't they ever heard of innocent until proven guilty?"

Marcus reached for the phone. Williamson was going to have to handle this one at the FLMS meeting.

hmh...clouds come up on the sky...the Federal President thought, while the Secretary of Internal Affairs explained:

What's so bad with these policies ? I don't see the need to take this to the FLMS or even the regional council, as our ideas are not discriminating, they're just a way to financially secure the travellers and the state of Latao.

We'll see what the official position of the FLMS will be, but so far, the policies stay active, as they do not ban anyone from travelling to Latao.

Maybe we can make an agreement with our FLMS-partners to grant them special travel permissions; the policies only aim at tourism and medium-long stays, migration is a completly different thing.

Antoine Tariskany looked at his newspaper, put it down, and looked at it again. "What the hell? Those crazy FLMS member nations will have the whole region whack-o before we know it."

"Send word that we dont hold an opinion either way. It's really no position for us to get involved in, and whatever toils the FLMS will likely strengthen the SAAS."

Official Statement, Incorporated Sarzonian Government

We are appalled that the Lataoan (?) government continues to attempt to justify its exclusionary practices meant solely to fatten its own coffers. We find it deplorable that they would employ the sort of reasoning anti-gay Bible thumpers use to "justify" discrimination, especially with their mentioning unnamed "studies" and "proven facts" without offering a shred of statistical evidence to assert their proof.

Sarzonia hereby announces that any of her citizens who happen to be in Latao, any embassy or consular staffs, or government or military personnel are to depart Latao or her territory within 72 hours. In addition, any Lataoan citizens, embassy or consular staffs, government or military personnel are given 72 hours to depart Sarzonia or her territory or risk detainment.

Sarzonia will not tolerate any attempt to collect her citizen's hard-earned monies by a foreign power without her or their consent.

Chairman Warzycha has condemned Latao's actions.

"We understand Latao's security concerns, we have enough of our own (ha ha), but this is not the answer. We urge the Latin government to reconsider this act, however will not take diplomatic action at this venture."
