"Abattoir maintains its right to test any device which causes no harm to humanity, or any institution of mankind. In these uncertain times we live in it is impossible to know the safety of our people and of the world. Therefore I stand by my decision to test our devices to show the nations of the world that we have the capability to protect ourselves. I also stand by my previous condemnation of the nation of Latao gaining access to such nuclear weapons, or any other weapons of mass destruction. I will do anything necessary to protect my people, and to protect this region from things I consider detrimental to the stability of our world."

General Harris sat in the back watching the broadcast. The necessity of such a broadcast had eluded him, as had many things of much other nature than shooting something or blowing something up. That's what he enjoyed, utter destruction. Perhaps that's why he wasn't cut out for this political game the President seemed to be caught up in.
The broadcast cut off. The President stepped down to take a few questions from local reporters when suddenly an alarm sounded and flashing red lights begin to blink on and off everywhere.
"THERE'S BEEN A NUCLEAR LAUNCH! GET THE PRESIDENT OUT OF HERE!' Harris shouted above the sirens. Rushing to the door he called for a helicopter to escort the President to his nuclear bunker and rampaged outside pushing guards out of his way. With Tariskany close at his heels, he reached the top of the Abattoirian International News Headquarters just as the helicopter arrived.
**An hour later**
Antoine sat in his chair swishing around the coffee in his "Mr. President" mug. His wait for intel seemed to be neverending, but he noticed as the General stood up to talk to a man holding some documents.
"Sir, satellite images show that it were the Xilians who fired the weapon."
The President looked at the wall for a moment and inquired, "Why would Xile be shooting off a nuclear weapon? Was it aimed at anything?"
General Harris looked down at a couple more charts and stated, "It appears to have just been a test sir, the missle exploded somewhere over the unchartered Old Babylonia in the ruined areas of the city, we have no indication of any of the damage involved, or the mass of the explosions. Just that the weapon or weapons were fired over an Abattorian ship which picked up the signal."
Tariskany again seemed a little confused and asked "Why weren't we informed General?"
"Probably for the same reasons we didn't inform them of our test, if I had to guess. Right now it seems like the world is in a power struggle, and everyone has to pick sides. I suppose our side is just being more open with it. Nothing can be known for sure, However. I say we wait for response by interim President."
"Very well General, I'll return home now, my wife is probably worried." The President stood and walked calmly out of the room.

Karl Tiresen looked at the satellite imagery with a feeling of glee. President Lauir had always blocked him on this particular tactical attack, but with him out of the way, the Intelligence Officer could get a few things done that needed to be done.
"Keep the regular propaganda broadcasting on the television and radio stations. We could have gotten someone's brother out there, and I don't want a domestic crisis right now."
An aide started, fumbling over the words, but was able to spit out "The Abattoirians seem to think it was a nuclear test."
Tiresen stopped and thought for a moment. "Send a message to President Tariskany. Tell him it was just a large cruise missle, not an ICBM. Also, give him the heads up on the situation."
Late-night on XNN, a brief message was broadcast talking about the missle launch. "The military was targeting a location of a known terrorist cell in Old Babylonia. The mission was a success, and we have nothing to worry about along the lines of terrorist activity in that area any longer."
The camera panned over to another anchorman. "And now for today's sports..." |

Foreign Minister Paul Gomina rushed into the room, with a handful of documents.
"Think you should take a look at this, Mr Chairman. The Xileans are testing weapons."
Chairman Warzycha looked over the satellie images, and scratched his head.
"Hmm...now that's an impressive range. Everton was seriously out of his depth when he went for these guys."
"Shouldn't we be worried, sir?"
"Not over this. If the Xileans are testing long range weapons, they probably wouldn't be planning on using them against us. A decent sized artillery gun could probably do the trick. No, I think Tiresen has other things on his mind."
"Such as?"
"Let's just say I wouldn't want to be in Lamoni right now....Besides, I'm more concerned with the fact Tariskany isn't returning my calls."

The President recieved the message that he had missed some calls from the Kyrentia leader, so he grabbed the phone and was put through to the Chairman.
"Hello Chairman Warzycha! I'm sorry I wasn't here for your calls, but we had a few misinterpretations of recent events. I've been flying all around the country trying to set up this meeting in Lavingrad, and just simply haven't had time. Maybe you should come to the meeting, we could maybe discuss adding your nation to our alliance..." |

The Lamonian nuke had been launched from the northern tip of Lemnos so that Nova Roma couldn't do a thing about it. When it reached it's target of Former Tachbe, it made a crater bigger than any that had been left there by the previous nuclear bombardment. With Abattoir and Xile both testing ICBM's, it was felt that the Free Republic had to show that it had teeth of it's own. |

(ooc: i glassed tachbe, i assume thats enough information regarding my nuclear program. that guy was wierd.... maniac. oh, and also, so ya know, nukes dont leave craters. they go off about 1000 feet up, and usually do the least damage exactly above their target. they just flatten and incinerate anything in its range.)
