Demot-ed

THE Amateur Aces, made up of non-league players and third-placed finishers in the last AOCAF Cup (Wasn't that West Starblaydia? - Ed) got their quest for the tournament's twenty-fourth edition underway in great style after a two-one victory over Demot.

Terry Harrison and Alan Katoru got the goals as the men in sky blue cantered home.

Dropped, But Top

KRYTENIA, bizarrely, remain top of Group One on goal difference tonight, despite a two-one reverse at the hands of host nation Bazalonia. Demot's victory over hapless Kosovoe puts four teams level on four points, and makes for interesting reading going into Matchday Three.

The Aces face Pacitalia next; the Blue Foxes will be another major challenge for the minor leaguers.

Hawks doing well in latest AOCAF

We have frankly come to rely on the Hawks doing fairly well in the AOCAF, and thus far into AOCAF 24, they have yet to disappoint.

Lamoni is in the knockouts, and have eliminated Krytenia in the first round. The next opponent for the Hawks will be regional friends Bazalonia, and it's fully expected that there will be at least a get together between the two teams after the match, regardless of who wins. Whether it'll be a bar meeting will be settled between the two teams involved, with the Hawks sending the offer to their Bazalonian friends after the conclusion of the match against Krytenia.

Should Lamoni defeat Bazalonia, then they would head to the finals, where they could face either Starblaydia or Pacitalia. Both teams are good, but Lamoni and Starblaydia share an AOCAF rivalry the likes of which Pacitalia does not share with the Hawks.

Once Lamoni started to defeat the Purple Peril (after many defeats suffered at the hands of the Purple Peril), they went on to win two AOCAF's, and the Hawks are looking to win their third. If the Hawks were to face Starblaydia in the finals, there would be the satisfaction of officially declaring this particular sporting rivalry over.

There have been changes in the Starblaydi government, including a transition to democracy; with former Lord-Protector Tiberius Starblayde himself instituting the changes. At the same time, relations between Lamoni and Starblaydia have improved, despite the fact that there have been no signs of real talks between the two nations; who simply seem to be avoiding each other, with the exception of the AOCAF.

Will the Hawks get their third AOCAF win; or will they head home with a lesser title. We shall all just have to wait and see.

Hawks face former historic rivals in AOCAF 24 final
Who'da thunk it?

If this final match of AOCAF 24 had been held at any time before or during the AOWar, the players would as soon kill each other as look at each other. With Lamoni pulling a draw in their first group stage match of the AOCAF, and a win in their other group stage match up with The Purple Peril, the atmosphere projected by the Starblaydi's would be poisonous, to say the least.

But with the end of the AOWar, and the subsequent Starblaydi semi-isolationism, no one is quite sure how the Lamoni-Starblaydi political situation stands, except for Starblaydia, and maybe not even them. Regardless, the final of AOCAF 24 is expected to be a showdown between two very talented teams who have both won the AOCAF a combined 8 times. Granted that the Purple Peril have won it four more times than Lamoni has, but this final is a matchup that has been anticipated for a long time.

Now that we have reached this highly anticipated matchup, let's review the teams that the Hawks have had to defeat in order to get here. First up is Starblaydia, who Lamoni has yet to lose against in this AOCAF, as previously mentioned. After the Purple Peril, we have Manhattan Prime; where Lamoni still has military forces, Nojika, and An Blascoad Mor. When the group stages had concluded, Lamoni still had to face both Krytenia, and hosts Bazalonia. Defeating both nations has led Lamoni to the current finals match against Starblaydia. This match will be about national pride for both sides; especially given the historic former geo-political/military rivalry that these two countries had.

Either way, we are predicting an enjoyable high scoring match in which neither side will give up until it's over.
