After the terrible news have reached the NEC, a telegram was sent to President Stone of the Free Republic:

In a mood pain and anger, the NEC condoles our friends in Lamoni for their loss of innocent lifes thru the bloody hand of terrorist Tiberius Starblayde. As you know, also Latao has lost 20 innocent people in that act of barbaric violence against freedom and democracy and against our nations.
You will understand that any diplomatic action is cancelled, though we appreciate your effort and we thank you for your help and good-will. It is self-explaining that Latao’s nuclear defense arsenal will remain where it is and how it is – which in clear words mean, that our nukes stay active. You will understand that this is more important than ever.
A massive operation containing sub-marines, air crafts and conventional missiles have begun to destroy Starblaydia’s vessels around the Latin sea that have threaten our nation and our fellow people for months.
We invite the Free Republic and all respectable and honorable freedom-loving nations to stand together with Latao and fight that liberation battle together against the devil named Starblayde! In case of Lamonian support, the NEC is willing to fully transfer the control over its nuclear arms to our friends in the Free Republic.
We pray for a positive response – but we shall go our way even without support – may the (real) lord help us in that battle of destiny.

Reading over the Latin message, Lamonian General Smythe laughed, and said, "Latao is going to need one of the Lord's miracles in order to win this one. It'd be put in the NS Pope's list of official miracles."
Agreeing, President Stone only said, "Now that we are at war with Latao, we will have the chance to actually do something about this perennial threat. I want you to crush their military, demolish their economy, but not to harm innocent civilians. Oh, put the bodies of the Latin diplomats into cold storage. When we raze the Latin Federal House, we'll use the bodies as fertilizer for the garden that we'll put in it's place. Understood General?"
The General looked slightly disturbed, but agreed. Then he left the room to carry out his orders. |
