After a couple of hours dithering, the Football Association of Bettia hereby submits its official hosting bid for AOCAF XIX. Tournament Structure There will be two main differences to the normal group structure, which can be summed up in these imaginative slogans: 1. We Hate Draws In a break from tradition, there will be no draws at all in this tournament. If scores are level after 90 minutes, extra time will be played, with penalties afterwards if there is still no seperating the teams.
As I'm sure you all know, Bettia is a Takilan nation, and therefore we love to see plenty of goals - it doesn't matter which way they go, as long as they go. Therefore, a bonus point will be awarded for every three goals that a team scores in a single match, regardless of the result. So, if a team loses 4-3, they still get a bonus point. And if a team is magnificent enough to score six, they'll receive two bonus points. The first round group stage will be structured as follows: - 18 teams - 2 groups of 4, 2 groups of 5 Group winners advance automatically to Quarter-Finals. Group runners-up and third-placed teams go to playoffs, seeded according to win percentage followed by average number of goals scored per game then goals conceded per game (due to unequal size of groups). 20 teams - 5 groups of 4 Top three qualify for Last 16, plus best 4th placed team. 22 teams - 2 groups of 5, 2 groups of 6 Top three from groups of five, and top four from group of six qualify automatically for Last 16, along with best 4th (groups of five) or 5th (groups of six) placed teams (this will be decided on win percentage, followed by goals scored per game then goals conceded per game). 24 teams - 8 groups of 3 Each team plays each other twice. Top two qualify for Last 16. As usual, groups will be drawn from pots seeded according to current AO rankings. As is the vogue now, there will be a straight knockout after the group stages, with no playoffs. Scorination: Scorination will be done using NS-FootySim, using points rather than sequential ranking. RP Bonus: Before scorinating each matchday, each country will be awarded points according to the quality of its RP(s), up to a maximum of five. An imaginative and/or funny RP will score higher than a bog-standard match report, even those of a professional-looking (i.e Bettian ) calibre. Also, a single RP of decent quality and length will score higher than lots of little RPs. In other words, a nation will be judged on the quality of its contribution on that given day. Rosters: Everybody likes rosters, especially well-written ones because they make RPing a hell of a lot easier. For this tournament, the RP-bonus of any nation which posts a roster will be multiplied according to the quality of their roster, from a minimum of x1.1 (for a plain list of players names and numbers) up to a maximum of x2 (for full player descriptions, stats, tactics etc). Team colours, various stats, clubs and background info on your players all help here. As NS-FootySim will be used for scorination, each nation can select a style modifier of -5 (ultra defensive) to +5 (ultra attacking) for their team. Any team that doesn't specify a style modifier will be classed as a style 0 (balanced) Venues: Group Stages: All stadiums (or is it stadia?) listed below. The extra-time in the group stage makes me wary, but otherwise, a solid bid. |
