Please post if you are interested in Hosting AOCAF 38. Signups will follow in a week or so |
Posted by: West Guiana Nov 17 2012, 02:14 PM |
I've been thinking about, a more formal bid will be posted in due time. |
Posted by: Farfadillis Nov 17 2012, 11:00 PM |
I'm thinking of possibly giving it a try. But I'd need to know approximately when hosts will be chosen for the matter. |
Posted by: Vilita Nov 18 2012, 10:03 AM |
Hosts will be decided in 7-10 days, so you should have bids up by thanksgiving |

Farf bid to host the 38th AOCAF: (IC Information will be revealed when I post the Everything thread, should I win) I'd like to to make groups of 4, but any amount of participants is fine to me. Be warned though: Really weird numbers like 37 wil make the tournament weird. If sign-ups could be cut-off at 32, 36 or any other multiple of 4. I'd be able to start the tournament pretty much any day, as I'm gonna have lots of free time when it starts. The knock-out stage would have a bye day between each round, with the exception of the last round, with the 3rd Place Play-off being scorinated 1 day after the Semifinals and 1 day before the Final. There would also be a bye day between the group stage and the knock-out stage. Cut-offs would be 22:00 UTC, approximately. It certainly won't be before that, unless previously specified or all teams remaining have RPd. I'll be quite quick delivering scores after the cut-off, as I'll post the cut-off after I've read all RPs. However, if someone posts before my cut-off and I haven't read it, that RP would be counted. I'm going to use NSFS3.0.1. because it's the one I feel I can manage the best, and that I'm sure I won't screw up anything with. RPs will be graded from 0 to 3. The reason for this scale is because it'll be approximately the 10% of the best rank, which I find fit for the tournament. This would give new nations a good hance at doing well this time and climbing up the ranks against non-RPing nations, for hwta I've tested. Rosters will be graded from 0 to 6 and can be an asset for you, however, getting full marks will be really difficult. For every RP I'll grade creativity, humour, neatness, format, grammar in a lesser extent and detail. Needless to say that I'll be using the ranks provided by Vilita once he calculates them. The maximum rank in NSFS will be Pacitalia's rank + maximum possible final rank. Tiebreakers will be Points, Goal diference, Goals for, Head to head and an eztra match as last resort. Now, you may be thinking, why the hell should I choose you, user I haven't heard much, if anything, at all? Well, the answer is because I've hosted a few minor tournaments already, both of them having positive reviews. These were the http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=202608 (which caused some controversy, but ended up pretty well, hope Star and Valanora don't hold any grudges) and the, also a bit controversial, http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=203942. |

It's what you misspelled. |
Posted by: West Guiana Nov 19 2012, 11:44 PM
Well I must admit that i'm not the best speller but misspelling 3 out of 439 words is pretty good. |
Posted by: Maklohi Vai Nov 20 2012, 01:02 AM
As a pure percentage, sure. However, the ones you misspelled are 1. A country name 2. The lifeblood of simulated events 3. A key artery to that blood (metaphorically, of course) So pretty key things. Then again, spelling is clearly not the most important thing when considering a host bid. |

Seconded. Though since we're in pure nitpick mode, I'll also add that Vilita missed one (hint: they're called FKR on the map, and mildly forgivable, since they chose to go to a vast wasteland whose name is not worthy of mentioning here before your entry, IIRC, but still fairly well-known ) Also, another tip for you, WG: having either a bid thread, or alternately posting the full text of the bid in this thread - as I suspect Vil intended - would probably be a good idea. |

@West Guiana, You seem to be very enthusiastic about running an AOCAF, but you lack the expierienced that is favored by veteran participants that have been involved with the AOCAF for a much longer time. I would suggest getting an older nation(a.k.a. NOT me.) to co-host the event so you can recieve advice on what to do and what not to do, while also getting to enjoy running the best AO-wide sporting competition. Now, this is just my opinion, and you are by no means forced to follow it, but I think it could be really helpful in the long run. |

Last Call for Host Bids, otherwise Voting will start |
Posted by: Falcania Nov 24 2012, 06:19 AM
I can pretty regularly misspell 0 out of several thousand words. It's not a *huge* achievement. |
Posted by: Farfadillis Nov 24 2012, 06:20 AM |
Well, as it seems I haven't got many questions to answer about my bid, I think I should clarify that I'm open to them. |
Posted by: Wight Nov 24 2012, 08:34 AM |
Question for WG. I know you said don't ask. But if a politician asked me to vote for him/her, but not to ask questions on the environmental/prison reform/politician's expenses debacle because it was a touchy subject, I'd be immediately walking away to the next candidate. So. What about the 'World Bowl 18 debacle'? |
Posted by: West Guiana Nov 24 2012, 12:46 PM
Lets just say even before WB 18 started which I had won the original host bid it has seemed that a few had their minds made up that I wasn't experienced enough to host it. And after a faulty start many had blown a simple mistake out of proportion into something that after a few days a vote of no confidence was held and I was stripped of the honor to host the World Bowl. (only after I did the more honorable thing to step down as host and have a re-host bid vote to which CC won the host bid(unchallenged)) As the below put it (formerly known as Bulth Corp) "Franklin Delano Bluth » Fri Jul 13, 2012 9:45 am Many of those "points," however, have come from people who from the outset have made no secret of their hostility towards someone not part of the World Bowl establishment hosting this event, and appear to have in their minds refused to have given him even a chance of proving themselves but instead started with accusations of dishonesty and willful incompetence at the first opportunity that they found to twist what might have very well been a minor and innocent glitch or accident of randomness into something much bigger than it really was. Current World Bowl president "Andossa Se Mitrin Vega » Sun Jul 15, 2012 9:36 pm Ok. I apologize to everyone for taking a few days of self-imposed away time to recharge. I have to catch up on the situation and will have some official comments coming soon. First, each and everyone here needs to take a step back and breathe a bit. I have to say officially and unoficiallly that I am very disappointed in the community as a whole, save one or two. Any reservations about NWG's ability to host should have been, and most were, before the vote had come to a conclusion. Despite those reservations, no other bid was forthcoming even when I had the vote totals messes up and extended the voting. Only one person here had shown any interest at all in hosting this edition of the World Bowl - and that was NWG. Following the voting results, any focus should have been transferred to lending help to a new host when, not if, he/she needed it. I guess that was beyond happening. Some people would rather sit back with an "I told you so" attitude. Now we have a bigger issue at hand- what to do now that NWG has left this for us to sort out? - an act I do not blame him/her for at this point. We have a bid from CC for the World Bowl and one from ABK on hosting a BoI. As there are enough nations to have a BoI played we must decide if we will include it now that things are getting a restart." To see the whole event unfold from the very start. http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1144&start=3175 |

I had not seen any of this and your candour is much more appreciated than saying don't ask, although I can see why you said it - it can't be much fun going back over it. Seems you were hard done by. So thanks for answering WG and good luck with your host bid! |

Questions for All Perspective Hosts 1. If selected, how many RL days between match days? 2. Would you hold the Roster, RP, and scores threads on the AO Forum, NS Sport Forum, or elsewhere? Would you split these threads between multiple places, and if so, how? 3. Will you provide a courtesy post announcing RP cutoffs as they happen? 4. Can you provide direct links to previous tournaments you've hosted? 5. If I were to ask someone who was dissatisfied with you as a host during a previous tournament, would they say anything positive about you as a host, and if so, what? 6. What is your personal philosophy for handling conflict, and is it based on a source text? 7. How do you believe your strengths as a host are greater than your weaknesses as a host? 8. Is the tap water in your IC country fluoridated? 9. Are there good IC options in your country for vegetarians? (Some of the 95X players are and have had previously unaddressed concerns about this.) Question for Farfadills 1. You've recently opened up signups for the next Under-15 World Championship. If selected to host the AOCAF Cup and no host comes forward for the U15 WC, would you host the U15 WC as well and would it affect your ability to host the AOCAF Cup? Questions for New West Guiana 1. How have your previous experiences made you a better host than before? 2. Have you made any information management changes that would prevent a similar situation from occurring in the future, and if so, what are they? Question for Nations Critical of Current Standing Host Bids 1. Where's your host bid? (My response to my own question: Personal, real-life job/family commitments, and I don't think an AOCAF Cup is an appropriate tournament to submit a first host bid for. I greatly appreciate the enthusiasm and interest of those who have submitted a host bid and felt asking some questions would be the best way to ease any concerns others might have! :) ) |

1) Detailed in my bid. 2) I think that the AOCAF is small enough to just have an Everything thread. It'd be in the NSSport Forum, as it allows for better formatting and is overall easier to use. 3) Detailed in my bid. 4) Already did in my bid. 5) Don't really understand what you mean there. If it serves for anything, I haven't received negative comments in my tournaments, so I can't really tell. 6) Expand on what you mean by "conflict": 7) Because of the amount of good comments I've got from the tournaments I've hosted, not limited to new nations in the U-15WC for example. 8) No, but it could in the future. 9) Yes, there are. The agricultural sctor is big in Farfadillis. About the U15WC, someone has already offered to bid for it to me through TG, apparently, he's still making the host bid. Even if this person somehow lost the voting against the poor nation of Re-open bids (commiserations ROB, you've been bidding for everything) I think I'd still be able to pull something off, like offering the host rights directly to someone else who'd be up to it. However, if a worst case scenario happens, I can still postpone it until the end of the AOCAF, or even host it at the same time as I'll soon be having lots of free time. I'd prefer the first one, though. However, said worst case scenario sounds highly unlikely. Hope I've cleared your doubts. |

1) If selected, scorination would be everyday, except for scheduled off days, which I see only one; one day between the group stage and knock-offs. 2) In total there would be two threads, both on the NS forums. The roster thread and rp/scores thread. 3)Of course posting rp cutoffs is bar and none the most courtesy thing to do and not doing so would be considered bad form. 4) http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=117746&hilit=WGSI, http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=114705, http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=167040, http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=132997&hilit=PFL&start=25 (PFL: My first nation was deleted and I was unable to post on the forums for a week, got to political in General forums) 5) See my reply to Wight, and there is a good chance. 6)If the conflict is among the majority, than the best thing to do is to see what caused the stir than to make rash decisions with out proper consul. If the problem is fixable, than one should in all their power should make an honest attempt of fixing it. (personal experience) 7) Though in RL i'm not so, but online as of late I've becoming more organized to the point I maybe going over everything two-three more times. Fixing mistakes before many take notice, go through and fix each detail about anything. _________________ 8) Depends on a city by city bases. 9) Since our First Lady, Jennifer Samuels is a vegetarian and 1% of our population, many restaurants mostly in Gemsbrook offer vegetarian menus. One restaurant is a vegetarian's paradise; Le'de Clair' located in the embassy district of Gemsbrook. ________________________ 1) Patience is key, getting in a hurry up mode to many times things can become overlooked and thus forgotten. Thus mistakes will happen. 2) see answer to question 7. |

What was controversial about the U15 WC? |
Posted by: Farfadillis Nov 27 2012, 06:30 AM
As far as I know, nothing. Any special reason why you ask this? |
Posted by: Kiryu-shi Nov 27 2012, 02:47 PM
Ooh, I had forgotten that I stuck my nose in the World Bowl Discussion thread around that time. I'm happy to see that you made it through and stayed active here, I remember being worried for a bit that the ridiculous rhetoric would drive you away. Good luck with this host bid! (and the good luck also carries to Farfadillis, both bids look perfectly respectable ) *edit as I read through more of the thread:
I think Blouman Empire is referencing the fact that in your host bid you called to attention that your U15 tournament was met with a bit of criticism. If I recall correctly, there was concern that the U15 was a redundant tournament made for the primary purpose of awarding people the potential for more titles for lackluster roleplaying, or something along those lines. I thought that Farfadillis had a perfectly reasonable reason for wanting to start the tournament, and from what little I've looked at, it seems to be well-run and fits in rather well with already existing tournaments. |
Posted by: Farfadillis Nov 27 2012, 04:11 PM
Dumb me, didn't remember that part of my bid. Anyways, you pretty much summarrized everything. IIRC, Valanora thought it cluttered the calendar, Star was a bit doubtful about it but ended up signing up, Liventia completely disagreed completely and Licentiapacisterra thought it was unnecessary. However, I've got good comments from respectable nations (ie: Wight). I pretty much liked the outcome for a first edition. I even differed from most tournaments by asking other people to host my matches (out of the group stage)- To add a bit more, I'm planning someone else to scorinate my entire group so that there aren't any possibilities to think about corruption, unless that's too out of tradition. |
Posted by: Blouman Empire Nov 28 2012, 07:42 AM
I asked because you said it was controversial, as I missed the entire discussion on the U15 I wasn't sure what had happened. But as you and Kiryu-Shi pointed it out that there was nothing overly controversial with it. |
Posted by: Starblaydia Nov 28 2012, 07:57 AM
I didn't see the need for another youth tournament, but decided to sign up in order to see how it went first-hand. I had no complaints with any of the hosting experience, I'm on the list for U15WC2, and have voted for Farf here as his next step along the hosting ladder. |

Thank you, it means a lot. |
