AO Forum :: > Regional Discussion > Pirates Patrol Eastern Waters

Posted by: Crystilakere Apr 13 2005, 11:33 AM
A group of Pirates has taken control of Atlantian Oceania's eastern most waters making for a dangerous route out of the region for ships from Crystilakere, Sarzonia, Falcania and Cockbill Street. The Crystilakere auxillary navy has reported at least 3 different sightings in the past week, and most recently a surveillence flight captured an image of a ship, believed to be that of Oceaice Commander Oponga, anchored some distance off the north of the island of Falcania.

There have been no reports of Crystilakere ships being harmed yet by the pirate fleet, but one ship has been unresponsive for three days. Surrounding nations should heed the wanring and ensure that all ships sent eastward are properly armed and capable of moving with swift pace.

Is your nation taking any action to try and secure the area in question?

Posted by: Starblaydia Apr 13 2005, 11:44 AM
Should an official AORDO Naval task force be sent to deal with these pirates, the Free Republic of Lamoni would be given command of those forces.

Aside from that, the Starblaydi Navy offers any help the Mines of Crystilakere may need in dealing with this threat.

Delegate from Abattoir,

At this time, The majority of Crystilakere forces from the island of Diamindokere are taking watch of the situation in Latao, and only a small fleet remains behind that would surely not be able to withstand any threats should the pirates become hostile.

The Abattorian Navy is willing to send some assistance in patrolling the area and offering escort to vessels of importance. When your navy is better suited to handle the situation, we will withdraw without any trouble. However, I think it would also be wise to request the assistance of the AORDO.

Xile wonders if any description of the pirate vessels can be given. As a nation bordering a major connecting waterway, we want to know what to be on the lookout for.

Posted by: Sarzonia Apr 13 2005, 02:54 PM
The ISHG (Incorporated Sarzonian Home Guard) would also like to inquire as to the amount of aid needed by the Mines of Crystilakere and by Diamindokere and would be willing to cooperate with Crystilakere to stamp out the piratical threat.

Ki'atra sensed a disturbance, and immediately called for the highest Empyrean Overseer.

"Empress, we have received information of a "priate threat" within our region. Although the area of the threat is far from Doujini waters, it has been determined by the Council that it would be wise to send a pre-emptive force to secure the regions waters. We are not, however, required to do so."

"There is a task force that is not far from the waters of Vilita A cruiser and 2 destroyers and 4 frigates. While other nations waste time and wait, giving the pirates the advantage, we shall be striking with the iron fist that is ours. Send the task force to intercept the pirates, then pillage and sink their vessels. Take whatever cargo they have and claim it lost."

"As you command, my Empress"

Posted by: Lamoni Apr 13 2005, 05:02 PM
The Free Republic would be willing to send a force of 5 destroyers and 5 frigates to hunt down the pirates.

Posted by: Vilita Apr 13 2005, 05:21 PM
The Tropics of Vilita will officially be planting spy devices in every room of every government building of the next nation that comes out with a retarded political statement consisting of a short and scanty "We will help".

The Tropics of Vilita also commends the great ship building creatures from Doujin for attacking this problem currently facing our region with more than a simple blow-off jerk, despite being the least affected of all nations in the region by the inflitration of the pirate fleet.

Posted by: Doujin Apr 13 2005, 06:15 PM
The Fleet Command Aegir has left ports heading towards Vilita. The Fleet Command Aegir constists of the Aegir Fleet, and two Battlefleets (Battleaxe and Invasus). This is the largest fleet deployment Doujin has made since the last civil war. The fleet will be heading towards Crystilakere, in order to ward off any new pirate insurrection and to take care of the pirate situation that is being faced by the nations of Sarzonia, Crystilakere, Xile, Diaminodokere, Ryloss, and whomever might be affected by this.

"Large fleet movements Imperator, stirring up a huge radar signature. Doujinian of origin, just as they announced."

Tyrannvs spoke back into the reciever to the Admiral,

"Indeed. Doujin certainly doesn't screw around when they say they're going to eradicate someboy. I like them."

"As I their ships, Imperator."

The Admiral looked to the satellite feed he was getting and focused on the ships.

"Yes... so large... so powerful... so expensive... --" -click-

Tyrannvs hung up the phone and began writing to the Doujin administration. It couldn't hurt to have another powerful nation within the SAAS.

XNN Breaking News Broadcast
New Babylonia, 0864

Earlier today, five ships were spotted sailing through the channel east of Xile. Eye-witnesses report that the ships matched descriptions released of the pirate ships in the east of the region. Reports in all levels of government have long been noting the rise and movement of such pirate tribes, and many predicted a move westward. Xilean battleships are overlooking the channel to make sure that our ports are protected.

[End of Transmission]

Interim-President Tiresen hung up his conference call with Abattoir and the Dwarven Liberation Front of Starblaydia. The new ships had been rigged up to look almost identical to the ships sailing in the east. They had, however been fitted with some of the newest equipment and weaponry.

As the former Intelligence Officer looked upon the radar feed, he noticed the small group of ships coming across a lone merchant vessel...

"Sir, I'm monitoring activity in the area."

"Activity?"

"Seems Doujin is sending fleets to the area."

"What?!"

"In response to the pirate threat. They're in our region now."

"Mother of Pearl!"

Admiral Ben Newman groaned when he heard the name. Doujin. Like a bad dream coming back to haunt him, the name was once again being uttered by Sarzonian naval types. Only, things were a little different now.

Until Stephen Marcus was given the ceremonial promotion to Fleet Admiral, Newman was in command of the Third Fleet. Even though the aging Freedom-class ISS Euroslavia was a mere few months away from being mothballed for the last time and her replacement was in the middle of a Parliament authorisation session, he would still be called upon to sit in her command chair one last time until he got a chance to command the Isselmere, which was of the brand new Independence-class. The Third Fleet was still a historic fleet in Sarzonia, and it would get its chance to add to that history one last time.

"Set a course to rendevous with the Doujinishi vessels," Newman ordered as he crossed the threshold onto the bridge of the Euroslavia. "Mobilise the rest of the Fleet. We've got a job to do."

"Admiral," we're picking up more naval activity. From Xile."

"Bastards! Looks like we're going to have to sharpen our fighting skills," Newman grumbled. Xile. The very name made Newman want to vomit.

Posted by: Doujin Apr 13 2005, 10:38 PM
Ki'atra pushed a button next to her chair, and a second later a dictation program loaded.

In her soothing and calm voice, she clearly spoke aloud her commands:

"Encryption Method 2810."
"Delivery Method: Electronic"
"Delivery Location: Xile"
"Message:

To the Interim President of Xile, I personally am requesting that my Fleet be granted passage through the waters between Xile, Krytenia, and Atlantian Oceana. As you already know of the Pirate threat, Doujin wishes to erradicate this threat as soon as possible and with utmost force to show others that this is not a haven for pirates."
"End Message and Send"

With a silent hum, the powerful computer system encrypted and sent out the message to Xile, hoping for a positive response.

Posted by: Doujin Apr 13 2005, 10:49 PM
Ki'atra sat back and relaxed, then again pushed the button to start the dictation program again. Once again, with her beautiful voice, she spoke aloud commands to send a message informing nations of her Fleets arrival to the area.

"Encryption Method: None"
"Delivery Method: Electronic"
"Delivery Locations: Sarzonia, Chacor, Crystilakere, Diamindokere, Ryloss, and Falcania"
"Message:

The Doujin Navy has been dispatched to erradicate the pirate threat from your particular area(s). The Fleet Command Aegir will cooperate with all nations, and it would make erradication of this pirate threat easier if Doujin were granted limited access to your nations territorial waters. The Fleet Command will seperate once in the region into three parties, covering a vast amount of territory in order to swiftly and effectively deal with thesee pirates. If other nations choose to assist, we will be more than willing to coordinate our efforts in this mission.

"End message and send to all locations given."

Ships, that enter Latin sea territory without permission, must except that they are plunged by the Latin Border Patrol or Military after a warning.

General Hael looked at the beep of the incoming message at Xilean command. It appeared to be of Doujin origin, the first such message recieved from that nation. He quickly scanned it, and put in a call to the newly rebuilt Presidential Palace. "Sir, have the 'pirate ships' cleared the channel yet?"

"Yes, General Hael. Why do you ask?"

"A transmission was just recieved from the nation of Doujin asking permission to pass through the channel."

"By all means, let them through General. We don't want to do anything to miff one of the more powerful nations of the region..."

"Yes, sir."

A click signified that the interim-President had ended the call.

Hael sent short transmissions to the few ships patrolling the channel to let all Doujin vessels pass, followed by an ever shorter message to the Doujin fleet concerning their free entry into and through the channel.

-----------------

OOC: The channel was man-made a while back to allow ships of all sized to pass through. So deep enough, yes.

[OOC: Star, Crystilakere didn't necessarily establish that the pirates were using wooden sailing ships. Unless his use of a picture of one was his way of establishing it.]

"They want what?"

"Doujin is requesting permission to enter our waters on the hunt for pirate ships."

"Over my dead body!"

Sarzo angrily slammed his fist onto his desk when he heard the request. Doujin was the last country whose warships he wanted patrolling soverign Sarzonian waters. He fixed a scowl on Vice President for Defence John Newman and Vice President for Naval Operations Kathy Bunhall to punctuate his point.

"If a single Doujinishi warship so much as takes a powder in our waters, it's an act of war," Sarzo said.

"They seem to be operating in a spirit of cooperation," Bunhall said.

"Yeah, but what are they going to want in exchange for this 'cooperation'? I don't trust Doujin any more than I can throw them."

"Mike, look, they're coming out of a long civil war and an isolationist period," Bunhall said.

"They could be coming out of World War VII for all I care. It doesn't matter who their leadership is, it's six in one hand, half a dozen in the other. Out of the question."

"I have an idea that might kill two birds with one stone," Newman offered. "It would let them perform their 'gesture of cooperation' and it would allay our concerns about our soverignty if they agree to it."

"What the hell are you smoking, John?"

"Hear me out. Offer to let their ships travel in Sarzonian waters, but only under escort by Sarzonian naval ships, and they would be instructed not to fire unless authorised by Sarzonian ship commanders."

"What the hell difference would that make?"

"It would let Doujin send their ships in cooperation with us and it would let them demonstrate that they really mean business and that they can be trusted. It would let us keep an eye on our soverign waters without worrying about interference from them."

"All right," Sarzo said wearily. "Now what about Xile?"

"We'll deal with those bastards when the time comes. But right now, you have Doujin to deal with."

"They're both headaches."

"That's why you're President, Mike." Sarzo rolled his eyes, then got on the computer.

QUOTE
Sarzonia agrees to allow Doujinishi ships to travel in her waters for a limited period of time until the piratical threat is eliminated under the following conditions: One, her ships must agree to be escorted by a larger contingent of Sarzonian ships at all times while in Sarzonian waters; Two, at no time may a Doujinishi ship open fire while in Sarzonian territorial waters unless under the explicit authorisation of Sarzonian naval command.

Sarzo clicked SEND and wondered what he'd gotten himself and his country in to.

OOC: Guess our football rivalry is beginning to reach past sports, Sarz?
------------------------
The group of ships approached the Lamoni merchant vessel and fanned out to contain its maneuverings. A few shiphands came on deck as the the pirate crews pulled alongside the ship.

"What business do you have with a Lamoni cargo ship?"

The captain of the merchant ship had already adopted the supercilious tone that Admiral Kien hated so much. Without a second thought, he produced a pistol from inside his jacket and fired at the captain. The man staggered against the ship's railing halted for a moment, and then fell off into the sea.

The remaining deck hands began to scatter, but the crews of the pirate ships were to quick. They began using their short scimitars when they were in close range, and hacked down all resistance.

About an hour later, almost all worthwhile cargo was being loaded into one of the ships. A few strange boxes contained objects that the higher echelons of government might be interested in. Admiral Kien had these placed on his own ship. He had lost a few men, he was not sure how many at the moment. Casualties of the merchant ship were minimal, mainly just the captain and the few men on board who had weapons.

The rest, he was forcing to walk the plank. Kien had never dreamed he would have been able to fulfill this fantasy in conventional times, but he was exalted because of it. The men were forced off one-by-one, and plastic explosives were placed around the merchant ship. It began taking on water, and the pirate ships began to move away, looking for further exploits.

As the ship went down, Admiral Kien noticed a few long yellow objects floating to the surface.

"Ah hell..." he muttered. He did not change his course.

"All I know, Mr. President, is that these "pirates" have become a nuisance in the eastern waters, so much so that Doujin have deployed a large fleet to wipe them out!" exclaimed Nedalian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dewars Strand.

"How are the Sarzonians taking all of this?" President Bren of Nedalia replied.

"Not good, from what the NIA (Nedalia Intelligence Agency) tells me. Apparently, they are willing to let them in their waters but only under very limiting conditions."

"Hmm. Well, as you know, we have been isolationists till just 2 years ago, so all this is basically gossip to me, I cant do much. I know nothing of Doujin and the only thing I know about Sarzonia is that we defeated them in the U21 World Cup semi-final. Great match it was..."

"Oh yes, remember it very clearly. 3-2, it was. That Nene goal was spectacular..."

"Anyway, Mr. Strand, I do have a soft spot for the Sarzonians because of that great football game. Please dispatch a note telling them of our willingness to help them if they face any problems."

"Right away, Mr. President."

Ki'atra was reading books on Kabbalah when a pleasant noise was heard coming from the powerful computer. With a simple push of a button, a screen popped out of her desk and powered on, displaying copies of messages sent to Doujin in response to her last diplomatic requests.

The first message displayed was rather short, sent to the Fleet Command Aegir that was waiting to pass through the channel. Even though it was short, it was a good message - the ships were proceeding to enter the channel with Xilean permission. Ki'atra thought to herself with a chuckle, "The commanders over in Xile must know what's good for them.."

The second message, however, was not as positive. Nevertheless, for the true mission that is at hand a Sarzonian escort would not be detrimental, at least in the beginning. She wrote down a note and gave it to an aid to send to the Fleet Command detailing the agreement that has been made between Sarzonia and Doujin. The fact that an agreement was made still surprised Ki'atra, given Doujin and Sarzonias past history. And the amount of vessels that were sent to the area.

Ki'atra quickly pushed a few more buttons on her desk, and a war map of the region displayed from the wall, showing various troop and ship positions of many of the nations within the region. After looking at the map for a few minutes, she decided more was needed.

She looked over to an aide at the door, who was looking down at the ground in fear of the Empress. Around the palace, Ki'atra was someone that government employees tried to stay away from as much as they could because of her cunning and dare say evil nature.

"You, get Abshier from down the hall."

The aide only nodded and dashed out of the Empress' working chambers before she could do something else. Admiral of the Navies Abshier was in his office in the Palace, making plans for the possible invasion. The aide entered his office and informed Abshier that the Empyrean Elder requested his presence, and he became worried. The last Admiral who entered the fair Lady's chambers was blown apart by a remote controlled hand grenade that the Empress personally shoved up his... a__. It wasn't a pleasant sight. He quickly rushed over to the Empress, hoping he wasn't going to meet the same fate as the late Durham.

The Admiral entered her chambers and she glanced over at him from the regional war map. Smiling, she beckoned him over and inquired about the invasion plans.

Abshier: "Yes, Empress, the plans are going well. Two, maybe three weeks tops, and our mission shall be in full swing."

Ki'atra: "Good.. I need you to dispatch the Hrafn Warband with 5 more Battlefleets to the region. This time by way up north, go around Calania and down the side. Also activate the defense fleet and put the other 4 on standby. I want regular patrols of all waters, and full underwater anti-submarine defense activated. Also inform Oceanus Hesperos to make sure that the base along with Anatole, Boreal, and Notos are all fully activated and put in a defensive mode. I want no surprises."

Abshier: "Yes, my Empress. Right away."

As King Falcon II stepped off his T-1 executive jet, he was handed a report. "Pirates?" He murmured, as he read the documents in his limo. "This is dangerous." He picked up his laptop and began to compose an email.

Subject: Pirates

I have recently recieved a report detailing sightings of pirates around our region. My orders are thus: Foreign Office, I would like you to ascertain whether or not the pirates are from Terranea. War office: Break off a section of the blockade and set it to patrol the area for Terri Corsairs.

"Y'arr, it be a gud life o' plunderin the high seas," the Dwarf said, adjusting his Sarzonian-flag bandana, "shiver me timbers, y'arr."

"Will you shut up?" Admiral Kien grinned at the dwarf. "That pirate talk isn't necessary now, Tulkuddin."

"Arr," the Dwarf looked dejected, "I be gettin' into character. Don"t ye knows Method Acting when ye be seeing it?"

"Do pirates always talk in the present tense?" the Admiral asked.

"Aye. We always be talking in t'present tense. No past nor plu-perfect tenses be a-spouting from my mouth."

"And why the Sarzonian bandana?"

"I be liking the colour scheme, matey," Tulkuddin said, adjusting the bandana again, "plus they be famous fer Naval supremacy in these thar parts."

"Lucky we didn't kill all of those Lamonians."

"Y'arr, when word is spread to the Lamoni coast by them thar swimming plank-walkers," he gestured with his bloddy-edged cutlass over the stern, "all o't' Free Republicans be quakin' in their bootses."

"Y'arr indeed," the Admiral replied.

"Course heading, Admiral?"

"Lay in an course for the channel. Flanking speed."

"Aye, sir."

The Third Fleet began to take up its position as the ships began to steam toward the channel. Some of the fleet's old foreign-built warships were slowly along for the ride. As the ships approached the channel, Newman turned to his tactical officer.

"Status of the Doujinishi ships?"

"They should be here within a few hours."

"Understood. Prepare the drill I was telling you about when we arrive at the channel."

"Sir?"

"We've got a problem with our targeting mechanism and we need to realign it. Not only that, but we're under strict orders to scrap these old hulks we've got from the RSIN Corp."

"But sir," Commander Neil Benson said sharply. "We never got those orders."

"Yes we did," Newman said. He lowered his voice. "We were supposed to do the target practice three weeks from now. We could always say we misunderstood the orders. Better yet, we could also say that the pirates sank these ships and we're investigating."

"But sir?"

"For a pirate sailing in a wooden ship, Doujin's mobilising a HUGE number of ships. With our being the other major naval power in the region, you'd think we could handle this little matter ourselves."

Benson still looked skeptical, so Newman continued. "Why do you think brass is ordering them to send their ships under our escort? And only allowing them to fire if we give the orders? They don't trust Doujin. Never have. A large deployment like that is highly suspicious."

"So you mean to say you're willing to defy orders because you don't trust Doujin?"

"Command decision," Newman said. "Sometimes, you've got to go with your gut."

Newman turned on the intercom and set it to maximum encryption.

"Attention all hands, this is Admiral Newman. Wer'e about to disobey a direct order from the President by asking Doujin to submit to an inspection of his ships. If anyone has any objections, speak now or forever hold your peace." When no one responded, Newman gave an order.

"Weapons officer, are the hulks in position?"

"Affirmative, sir."

"Accquire targets."

"Aye, sir. Targets accquired."

"Fire!"

The guns on several ships in the fleet opened up and battered the aging ships, which slowly began to sink into the channel. With the ships sinking, the fleet began to assemble in position and play the waiting game.

"Roger, sonar confirms wreckage. We'll assume a waiting position until it can be cleared? Our convoy is carrying mostly heavy machine parts, but we are carrying a small cargo of luxury goods. Could I interest you in joining me for a drink?"

Posted by: Sarzonia Apr 14 2005, 10:44 PM
"That sounds good. Let me know the time and place and I'm there."

Lord knows I could use a stiff drink right now, Newman thought. He looked out at the wreckage and started pacing the bridge.

Posted by: Ryloss Apr 14 2005, 10:50 PM
Half an hour later, aboard the convoy flag ship, the Nara, in the arabic alphabet.

"I'm General Redwing, and this is Commander Marlowe," Redwing said, handing Newman an ice cold bottle. "Ryloss Naval Defense Forces. If the marines and uniforms haven't tipped you off by now, we're not really a merchant convoy."

Posted by: Xile Apr 14 2005, 10:54 PM
A small Xilean scout ship slowed down quickly while approaching the wreckage. The officer on board attempted to get in radio contact with the nearest Sarzonian ship.

Shots reported fired. Everything okay? What happened?

Posted by: Sarzonia Apr 14 2005, 11:16 PM
"This is Commander Neil Benson," the Euroslavia's executive officer said in the communication. "Standard military drill. Just practicing for the pirates. No cause for alarm."

He put the transmission device down and turned toward the communications console, taking care to shut the device off and prevent his voice from being heard on the Xilian ship.

"Hope that works," he said.

Meanwhile, Newman raised his eyebrow. Suddenly, it was making sense to him.

"Something's definitely up and you know it," he said, taking the bottle. He opened it and took a sip. Damn this stuff's sweet, he thought. Then he realised: It was root beer. He loved root beer and had since he was a kid. He thoughtfully drank the root beer.

"Looks like we have good reason to be suspicious, I take it?"

Newman looked expectantly at Redwing and Marlowe for their reply, even though he now knew he was right.

Posted by: Xile Apr 15 2005, 05:44 PM
Xilean Command was buzzing with activity, as messages were relayed to Doujin Fleet Command. Included were coordinates of the shortest route to circumvent the wreckage, as the channel was blocked. Crews were working on clearing the wreckage, but it would be some time before they were able to make the channel passable again.

Progress was occuring in the Nest, the first main settlement was nearly built, with 50 of the ships being dismantled to provide the steel for the new buildings. President Ashallond was notified by one of his generals that there were pirates in the waters.

"Do we have the available ships to help look without jeopardizng our fleet still in harbor waiting to be dismanted and unloaded?"

"No sir, not at this time, perhaps in a few weeks."

"Very well, send a message to whoever may know that we cannot assist but will be more than happy to guard this sea that we are anchored on. What's it called anyway?"

"No idea sir." *turns and goes to find a radio officer.*

Staying in international waters on the northwestern end of the Xilean channel, the Lamonian naval task force (5 Frigates, 5 Destroyers) were looking for the pirates. Admiral Thomas Denton was in command of the Task Force, and it had been rumored that Lamonian Merchant Ships had been looted and sunk by the pirates. It had been tricky at times to stay in international waters, but the task force had manged it. Now that the task force was in position and doing what it had come for, the Admiral was permitted by his orders to send encrypted messages to Abattoir, Bedistan, Krytenia, and Xile announcing their arrival. The Admiral did not want the task force to be mistaken for the pirate ships, after all; and relations with Xile and Abattoir had been strained in recent times.

"Actually, we mobilized when you did. We're suspicious because Sarzonia is. These cargo transports have been modified to mount large numbers of naval artillery guns. Our plan is to use chemical saturation and thermobaric weapons, you see. We're ready for them here." General Redwing explained, finishing her own root beer and getting a second.

(OOC: For those of you who are uncertain as to the technology I'm referring to, thermobarics are fuel air explosives, chemical saturation is stuff like phosphorous, flourine. Kinda like napalm.)

FNS Feather broke out of the blockade of the Falcanian Straits. Cpt Holt was nervous. Terri Corsairs? He had dreamt of the day when he would finally be able to sink a terri ship. Cpt Holt had seen little action, having been deployed previously only in the liberation of Zhekistan. He ran his fingers over the control panel. It was brilliant, a Jay Industries CT-1 terminal, much better than the old MicroSore ones. Jay had done the refit well, after the Feather had undergone heavy shelling. the guns had been upgraded to HAC/N-1 Naval Cannons, and the ancient ack-ack guns had been replaced with 2 Jay NSAML-1 Naval SAM launchers, firing Beak AP and Bill HE missiles. The hangar had been loaded with LAH-1 Lightning Light Attack helicopters and TH-1 Claw transport copters.

After getting word that the Xilean Channel was blocked, the Lamonian task force went around past South Ossetia, and was finally getting to within a few hundred miles of the affected area. Admiral Denton knew that pirates were likely still a long way south, but things were a little too quiet...

Newman drew in his breath for a moment.

"You must understand something about Doujinishi-Sarzonian relations. They have been anywhere from non-existent to hostile ever since Sarzonia was founded. Our suspicions of Doujin's motives have been long-standing. The fact they have sent such a large naval force to deal with a pirate threat when we as the formerly pre-eminent naval power in the region could handle matters on our own struck us as being highly unusual.

"We have monitored various fleet movements in the area and are noticing the large naval deployments. We haven't had the opportunity to assess the pirate threat as of yet, but we don't believe it is one we couldn't reasonably handle with a fairly decent task force or two. Hell, we could even dress up and send out Old Ironsides herself to deal with them if they're really using a wooden-hulled ship to terrorize our area.

"If your government's suspicions are genuinely raised by these naval movements, I would suggest they start mobilising in the event of an attack. I believe my government may start mobilising as well."

Newman looked out of the nearest porthole and sighed. He knew Navy Command would have his ass for disobeying an order from the President, but he also knew that the sea dogs in the military tribunal might give him a fair shake and no more than a one step reduction in rank. At least he hoped that was the case.

************************************

"We're ready when you are," Rear Admiral Matt Lance said. He fidged in his command chair on the bridge aboard the ISS Constitution, the name ship in the three strong class of Doujin-class command dreadnaughts and the flagship of the Sixth Fleet. He knew the ISS Portland like the back of his hand since that was his flagship for a small squadron, but the Constitution was new to him.

"All units report ready, Admiral."

"Let's get this show on the road," Lance said. The ships began their new mission to sail to the northeast coast of Sarzonia and conduct standard patrols. It didn't sound like exciting work, but with Navy Command getting increasingly concerned about recent movements, Lance knew it was distinctly possible that he and his enormous flagship would get their first test under the Sarzonian flag.

"Send to Rylossian government," Lance said as the Fleet reached its second hour. "Request their permission to begin patrols of their coastal waters as well. Inform them that our government is getting a bit antsy about what's going on with this whole pirate thing."

"Aye sir."

Lance waited for the response and wondered what was next for his crews and their ships.

Permission granted. Request similar permission. Lord Tenal says: Antsy HELL! Tango Epsilon Victor 3-1-3-7 has advised full mobilization, and that's what we're doing. A draft is in effect, and we're distributing heavy weapons to the Militia's armories. Suggest you do likewise. Dozen and a half HALO teams on priority stand by to assist Sarzonian if you get hit first. Also, The Hilt, the anchor station that is, of The Sword of the Maker, will be breaking for higher orbit.

"Send out a ping" said Cpt. Holt. "I want to know which other allied ships are in the region."

Admiral Placillo recieved the transmition from the President and quickly got to work. With the Xilean Channel being cut off there would likely be some major activity outside Abattoir in International Waters. Small patrol fleets were to be sent out to ensure that no vessels trampled about Abattoir's sovereign waters.

The Admiral quickly skimmed over the letter again.

To: Admiral Placillo, Naval Headquarters in South Port
From: President Antoine Mavisko Tariskany

Admiral Jaron Placillo,

Tension within the region seems to be escalating, and right now I think it would be best to protect our best interests.  Be on the defensive, and watch for any activity in and around our waters.  The Xilean Channel has been cut off by some Sarzonian debris, and I think the hinderance could cause some hostilities.  Don't step on any toes, and make any communication with foreign ships friendly and yet forward.

Sincerely Yours,
Antoine Tariskany

The Lamonian task force had finally made it past Legalese, sending a radio message of goodwill to their allies. They noticed a lack of returns from where Sarzonia should be as they passed by (OOC: as Sarz has left the region). Thinking that this was odd, a radio message was sent off to a Lamonian commo satellite, and a reply that Sarzonia had left the region was sent back about thirty minutes later.

"Sarzonia's out of here?" Said Holt? "Damn. We'll need to tell the Jay Shipyards."

Protectorate of Starblaydia

Dear Lord Carlite Orfosi,

The Free Republic of Lamoni has a naval task force in the area that is searching for the pirates now. As they have not attacked merchant traffic for a little while, we suspect that they are at some secret base or other. Lamonian recon sats have been detailed to assist the task force locate the pirates. Any intelligence that Starblaydia is willing to share would be appriciated.

Currently there are no illegal activities observed in the south-western waters near Latao, except a few Crack-Dealers from the Holy Saints.

OOC: These pirates won't be affiliated with Nova Roma in anyway; just decided to RP for them.

IC:

They didn't know how, and frankly they didn't care, but the pirate fleets had managed to slip by the Falcanian patrols... mostly through luck. Extremely bad weather and an increase in naval traffic spread the Falcanian forces too thin. Over a period of several weeks, the pirate ships had managed to slowly trickle through the Secocia Sea, loop around Florianapolis, and wind up off the coast of Bazarain.

The pirates were worried, however, due to the proximity of their fleet to Nova Roma. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, the pirates regarded Nova Roma and Latao as rather pirate friendly places. Laws were lax and taxes few. As long as the pirates didn't disrupt Roman trade, everyone was left alive. Unfortunately, the relocation meant Roman fleets were running extremely thorough patrols; a scout ship had even caught wind of Nojkan vessels in the area. Very dangerous times for a pirate, especially with a handful of nations scouring the eastern seas for them.

Unfortunately, the lure of wealth was too much for the pirates; the Vilitan Cove was a very busy place, with tankers and merchant ships travelling from Nojika, to Vilita, to Nova Roma, to Abattoir, and to Lamoni. Attack plans were created and shared between ship captains. The attacks would begin soon, and hopefully the pirates would be quick enough to get what they were after and leave the region before they were caught looking down the barrels of some of Starblaydia's new warships.

One of the sailors onboard FNS Feather jerked awake. It was the dog watch and he was tired. He saw a black, moving shape on the horizon. What was it? He looked at the bottle in his hand. Surely it wasn't that strong? Meh, he wouldn't report it and risk a court-martial for being asleep and drunk on watch.

Posted by: Nova Roma Apr 26 2005, 05:04 PM
Little Brigsby. Top-of-the-line Lamonian cargo-ship. It was en route from Vilita to Nova Roma. Specifically: Capva. The capital port city linked directly to the Roman capital.

Its cargo? An electronic treasure. Computers, watches, plasma TVs, stereo systems, gaming devices, the likes. Word had it that the ship was even carrying advanced targeting equipment and several weapons calibration devices, all of which could be sold on the black market for an extremely high price. The fact that the Brigsby captain was broadcasting his location every twenty minutes on every frequency certainly didn't help the ship as the entire pirate fleet heard the calls. Within minutes, they were ready to strike.

----

The seas were getting rough, cloud cover was thick, and waves were slamming the ship, rocking it from side to side. Captain O’Donnell was just about to radio in his location when a transmission interrupted.

"This is the *static* requesting immediate assistance! Our main *static* is shot and we're taking on water. Life boats away and we are requesting *static* and pick-up! *static* If anyone is out there *static* please help! I don't know how long we'll be able to keep up *static* transmission, our radio is *static*"

The captain looked to his first mate who promptly nodded. They tried to get back to the ship, but there was no response.

"Buggers likely lost their radio. Any idea where it is?"

O’Donnell looked up out of the front window and saw a dark object; he squinted. Some lifeboats and a ship. Luckily, the trade route would take the Brigsby right alongside the damaged ship. Anywhere else and the cargo ship would have had to call the Roman or Vilitan portmaster and get help from them. The captain readied his crew to pick up the lifeboats and slowed the cargo ship down.

----

"ARIGHT MEN! DON'T SHOOT UNTIL WE MEET THE CAPTAIN! AND EVEN THEN! DON'T SHOOT UNTIL I GIVE THE ORDER!"

The man shouted above the roar of the waves and lad next to him spoke up.

"What's the order going to be!!!???"

"YOU IDIOT! I'LL JUST SAY 'FIRE!'"

----

After the last pirate was brought aboard the ship, a hand ran off to the control room. Several minutes later he came back with the captain.

"I hope you're all safe ---"

"FIRE!!"

The pirates pulled out a variety of Glocks, Desert Eagles and Colts and dropped the crew at hand. The captain and a handful of other crew members fell. A pirate with a large backpack kneeled down, opened his bag and handed to his friends several submachine guns. They scurried off, and several seconds later the report of gun fire was heard and the groaning of the engines and rudders followed as the ship altered course. The pirates had seized control of the ship.

"TOO EASY!!"

"You don't have to yell, sir."

"SHUT UP YOU WENCH!"

Recieving the radio call 'SOS' from somewhere on the trade route between Vilita and Nova Roma, a nearby Lamonian cruiser was sent to investigate. When they got to the spot of the SOS, the only things on radar were a Lamonian merchant ship, the Little Brigsby, and some unknown ships that were headed away from the Little Brigsby. More curious than cautious as yet, Captain Zimmler called the Little Brigsby on the radio.

"FRLS Zeus to Little Brigsby, come in Little Brigsby..."

"Tell me again why we're up here," the co-pilot asked over the roar of the engines.

"We're up here," the pilot - a Group-Captain - said, "because we are fulfilling an essential intelligence-gathering operation essential to the security of the region from those nefarious pirates."

"Yeah, right," the Electronics Officer remarked.

In truth, there was something to be said for the majestic, cult form of an SR-71 Blackbird screaming across the skies at god-knows-how-many miles per hour. It wasn't every day that Starblaydi Air Force Command got to use them so openly. They were up there to check out the area, providing real-time, useful coverage that mere satellite photos could not create.

The pictures were being real-timed to a large room of intelligence officers, who were in direct contact with the Blackbird's crew.

<Highclass, come right, vector three-four-niner.>

"Roger, Motel," the pilot confirmed, coming to three-four-niner."

"Holy moly," the electronics man said in the rear "would you look at that,"

"That's a goddamn fleet," the co-pilot said.

"Highclass to motel," the pilot said, "are you getting this?"

"Roger, Highclass, transmitting co-ordinates to all AORDO craft now. It's huntin' time."

"FRLS Zeus this is Little Brigsby. We've had a slight error in our course calculation; this damn storm's screwing with navigations."

The pirate captain cut the radio and switched to a lower frequency.

"Move in now; we've some serious trouble. Lamonian cruiser. We need some damn backup."

He didn't like calling for back-up; those that came to the assistance of the cargo-ship would get a slightly larger share when all of the goods were sold, so of course, nearly the entire pirate fleet came to help.

Stolen corvettes, patrol boats, yachts, and other small ships began converging on the cruiser's location, swarming out of the hidden coves and caves that they had been lurking in. Within five minutes, the Lamonian cruiser would be surrouned by lightly-armed but extremely maneuverable craft.

Posted by: Falcania Apr 27 2005, 01:19 AM
"So," said Cpt. Holt to the terrified sailor. "You were asleep and drunk on watch? and you saw a ship on the horizon? And didn't report it? Get to the engine room."

He turned to another sailor. "All ahead full. Coordinates sent by Starblaydian SR-71s. It's wreckin' time!"

"Oooh, right you are, darling!" said the sailor, daintily pulling the lever.

"What have I told you about that, Hutchkinson?!"

Meanwhile in Luciaria, Latao

The gossip and reports, that these pirates obviously reached south-west Oceania and therefore Latin waters caused big bedevillment and helplessness in the NEC, as Latao never experienced a situation like this.

Basic questions quickly came up: What do they want ? Are they armed ? Do they disturb anything or threat anyone ?

Especially one report, saying these pirates like Latao because of the lack of tax duties caused big perplexity.

Should we consider them 'business men" ?
The NEC-members think that it's probably best if we start to collect more information on their intentions. As long they are not braking the law they could theoretically reside in Latin waters or territory. But in that case they must register with the Department of Migration to get legal visas. They can however also open bank accounts and deposit "trading profits" as the Latin financial place is pretty much protected by privacy laws and our banks are considered highly secure and close-lipped.

Admiral Kien slowly repeated the transmission he had just heard. He had been going through the back channels for days, trying to find a new opportunity to advance his pirate facade further. This transmission had not been what he expected, and he took a moment to ponder on the events that were unraveling.

It had been a transmission on a rarely used communication channel. The pirate fleet was in need of assistance, and was apparently contacting allies throughout the region.

This could be our chance, he thought, we can get Lamoni command even more befuddled by jumping in.

He relayed the message to the other three ships. He repeated the coordinates he had committed to memory, and began to change the course. By aiding the REAL pirates in their rendezvous with the Lamoni carrier, we can get Lamoni to think the problem is bigger than they realize. That should keep them out of internation affairs a little longer...

He ordered the torpedos to be readied.

Posted by: Starblaydia Apr 27 2005, 08:00 AM
"Damn the torpedoes, or gives me death, y'arr!"

Tulkuddin was really into character now. He'd nearly gone into the theatre before the sea had called to him.

"Torpedo tubes ready, Cap'n," Tulkuddin waited a few moments, "Admiral, sorry."

He 'y'arred' dejectedly. 'Cap'n' sounded so much better in a pirate accent. Whatever accent he would use, however, would still send the Lamonian Cruiser to the bottom of the deep. Davey Jones' Locker, here we come.

Seeing lots of ships suddenly converging on their position, the captain of the FRLS Zeus did the only thing that made sense. He called battle stations and fired off a message to the Lamonian naval command that requested backup. The problem was that Captain Zimmler couldn't fire until either fired upon, or a ship or ships had been positively ID'd as pirates. Still, he ordered that the Nixie anti-torpedo decoys ( http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/weaps/an-slq-25.htm ) be streamed, so that the ship might survive when help arrived. The 5 inch gun turrets were moving around to show that they were ready to sink any enemies, and the anti-ship missles were made ready.

When Lamonian Naval Command got the message from the FRLS Zeus, five more cruisers were sent racing for the location of the suspected pirate fleet.

Posted by: Starblaydia Apr 27 2005, 05:43 PM
"They sent out a message," Tulkuddin yelled, forgetting his pirate accent for a moment,

"Jam it?" the Admiral asked, only as an instinctive reaction

"No time, " Tulkuddin answered, confirming the Admiral's fears, "they already sent it. No hostile action so far."

"Matey." he added as an afterthought.

Several rocket-pod outfitted yachts raced forwards toward the cruiser, launching a salvo of rockets and missiles at the Lamonian ship, only to erupt in a shower of splinters and water shortly after, their hulls not designed for battle.

Patrol boats skimmed around in circles, firing their .50 caliber chainguns; several PT boats were upgraded with torpedo launchers, those that were fired their guided munitions only to see them detonate far from their intended target. Acoustic decoy systems sure were a pain.

Some of the larger pirate ships launched small speedboats to attempt to board the cruiser. Bits of blood and flesh sprayed the side of the Lamonian ship's hull as its CIWSs came on-line and blasted the would-be boarders straight to hell.

Other pirate captains were smarter, staying a considerable distance away from the cruiser and having their crew fire RPGs at the ship.

However, every captain in the fleet knew that if they weren't quick, Lamonian and AORDO reinforcements would arrive very soon.

Posted by: Falcania Apr 28 2005, 12:52 AM
The ships in the Falcanian Blockade reformed. The wall was now impenetrable.

Posted by: Lamoni Apr 28 2005, 04:28 PM
Watching the results of the pirates being blasted to hell, Captain Zimmler decided that maybe they could survive this one after all. They had recieved word that five more cruisers were on their way to reinforce him, so the FRLS Zeus just had to survive on it's own until then. The ship rocked as another group of RPG's hit, widening the holes made by the few rockets that had been fired. The captain had already ordered that the crew report to the ship's armory in shifts, so that they could get weapons in case the pirates tried a boarding action. They even had powerful scuttling charges in case it looked like the pirates would gain control of the ship, but only the captain could arm them.

Meanwhile, the cruisers were running at flank speed toward the reported datum, hoping to be able to reach the FRLS Zeus before it was too late.

"All right Admiral, what's going on here?"

"Madame Vice President, our intelligence was picking up Doujinishi fleets approaching our sector in Atlantian Oceania."

"They were authorised by the President to be there."

"I'm aware of that, Madame Vice President, but that wasn't your ordinary little task force. That was a fleet that was big enough to form a blockade on somebody."

"C'mon Ben, the last thing I need from a Sarzonian admiral is someone who's skittish over Doujin's presence. You and your crews are going to face courts martial when you return to port."

"I'll accept that fate," Newman said, drawing a surprised reaction from Vice President for Naval Operations Kathy Bunhall. "Our assessment of the Doujinishi fleet proved to be accurate."

"How so," Bunhall said with a curt tone that suggested she didn't care what Newman found.

"Intel reports indicated that the ships carried 200,000 troops in total."

"Two hundred thousand," Bunhall said with a gasp. She may have been over eager to accept the Doujinishi presencec in Sarzonia's neighbourhood, but she was no fool.

"That's a lot more than they'd ever need to deal with some pirates."

"Exactly, Madame Vice President."

"I suppose I should let you know something," Bunhall said. "Doujin left the region after we did. Their fleets went with them. Now you can go back to chasing pirates. But you'll still have the courts martial to contend with. Though I think you'll have a much stronger case for extenuating circumstances than you did a few minutes ago."

"Understood."

"Bunhall out."

"All right men. Change of plans. We're going to split up into task forces to go after these pirates. I want full aircraft escorts on all task forces. If you find anything, use your judgement and go after them. Understood?"

"Aye sir!"

Newman sat down in the command chair and thought about things for a moment. He didn't relish the idea of going on a wild goose chase but it was better than facing an old enemy.

The Lamonian cruisers had finally gotten to where they could make out the FRLS Zeus on RADAR. The leader of the five cruiser task force; Rear Admiral Blighton, directed that a encrypted text message be sent to the FRLS Zeus, telling them that the task force was on it's way and could see them on RADAR.

Meanwhile, Task Force 24 had been recalled to Lamonian waters, and was already going past South Ossetia.
