AO Forum :: > Regional Discussion > Naming the Landmasses Version 3.0 |
Posted by: Starblaydia Nov 1 2005, 07:39 AM
(Consolidated from the previous versions, now sleeker, sexier, with turbo handling and a funny aerodynamic wing on the back and sponsorship stickers all over it) Landmass map: http://www.thirdgeek.com/aomap-land.png
So, we have: Yellow: Calania Green: Verdena Orange: Paripana Red: (Terra) Foringana Blue: Auzeria Cyan: Cyanea (by default as Sarzonia is the only resident) Pink: Arrosia White: Nothandryun And we can add Vircæis, the landmass to the south of Luciterra containing Vephrall and Kura-Pelland. For more suggestions or agreements with suggestions above, please do post. |

I made http://www.thirdgeek.com/aomap-land.png with the eastern islands shown. Though there are actually five major regions within the orange area, I managed to restrain myself from placing them on the map, and you can look at http://www.thirdgeek.com/chmap-ao.png if you want the individual names. On the basis of over two years of RP history, I unilaterally name the orange “landmass” Paripana. Edited so people know what the hell's going on here - Star. |
Posted by: Commerce Heights Dec 6 2005, 03:36 PM |
*checks spelling of previous post* I said Paripana, not Papriana. |
Posted by: The Lowland Clans Dec 9 2005, 06:11 AM |
Blue: Southhaven Pink: Devonia Cyan: Westhaven White: Nothandryun |
Posted by: Sarzonia Dec 9 2005, 12:07 PM |
I don't think Westhaven works as the name for the Teal landmass, considering it's in the Eastern part of the region. Easthaven or something like Esteria might work. |
Posted by: Vilita Dec 10 2005, 12:54 AM |
I would have to object to any names denoting specific directions in them, as it is possible that not all nations subscribe to the same directional system of measurement. |
Posted by: Commerce Heights Dec 10 2005, 08:29 PM
Doesn’t that make the concept of a regional map impossible? |
Posted by: Xile Dec 29 2005, 08:32 PM |
I christen my continent... "Blue." |
Posted by: Krytenia Jan 1 2006, 08:21 AM
You mean not Lauiria? |
Posted by: Pacitalia Jan 3 2006, 03:01 AM |
I'd like my continent (Red) to be called Terra Foringana. Has historical and cultural significance to Pacitalia - roughly translated, it means "Land of the Tall Palms" - I dunno whether SU could translate that to Conabi, but he could give it a try. And if he doesn't agree with this name - too bad. I was here first. |
Posted by: Starblaydia Jan 3 2006, 07:46 AM |
Perhaps just plain old Foringana, rather than a 'Terra' prefix which obviously means land/earth etc? |
Posted by: Xile Jan 3 2006, 10:41 AM |
Adonis Lauira. Righteous. |
Posted by: Lamoni Jan 3 2006, 03:47 PM |
How about Dionysius for the Blue Continent. You could do worse, you know. |
Posted by: Space Union Jan 3 2006, 05:41 PM
DAMN! I should've posted first in this thread. My hatred is rising....... Seriously, though, I like that name. I can translate that into Conabi as: Ootahaeth as "Tall Palm" or Ootahaeth Dhash "Nation of Tall Palm". Sorry, I'm having a hard time trying to remember what "Land" is in Conabi, so for now I'll just use nation or Dhash. |
Posted by: Xile Jan 5 2006, 01:37 AM |
Honestly, we should just name my continent Babylonia, because I am awesome. I liked Canon, but that's too biblical. |
Posted by: Lamoni Jan 5 2006, 08:15 PM |
We could always name the Blue continent Alexandria. |
Posted by: Krytenia Jan 6 2006, 02:54 PM |
How about Auzeria for the blue continent? |
Posted by: Falcania Jan 6 2006, 03:36 PM |
I suppose old-fashioned names like "blueland" are out? |
Posted by: Starblaydia Jan 6 2006, 04:06 PM |
Right, does anyone actually agree with any of the proposed names, rather than just suggesting ones? I like Auzeria, its a nice play on Azure for the blue one, of course, as we have Verdena for Green. Foringana seems fine to me, too, as the two only people on that mass have agreed on it. As for everything else? 'Meh'. |
Posted by: Sarzonia Jan 6 2006, 04:56 PM |
Along with the above suggestions, I'd like to propose Cyanea for the landmass that I share with Crystilakere, Ryloss and Chacor. |
Posted by: Krytenia Jan 6 2006, 05:07 PM
I'm going to suggest Cilesta as an(other) alternative, too. Also Bielica for the white continent, and Arrosia for the pink. |
Posted by: Nojika Jan 20 2006, 05:56 PM |
I like Krytenia's suggestion for the blue continent -- Auzeria. It sounds very nice and looks good too. Auzeria gets my vote. |
Posted by: Xile Mar 16 2006, 02:36 PM |
Auzeria gets my vote as well. |
Posted by: Starblaydia Mar 16 2006, 02:42 PM |
Auzeria = win Unless there are major complaints, of course. |
Posted by: Carrar Jul 5 2006, 04:38 PM |
I also like Auzeria for the Blue Continent. I think Westhaven sounds cool for the Cyan Continent...well i like the 'haven' part of the name maybe somthing else before haven? |
Posted by: Krytenia Jul 6 2006, 08:19 PM |
Front Page Update Landmass map: http://www.thirdgeek.com/aomap-land.png Officially Named Continents: Yellow: Calania Green: Verdena Orange: Paripana Red: (Terra) Foringana Blue: Auzeria (final confirmation pending: alternatives Southhaven / Calyr / Kilian / Dionysius / Alexandria) Currently Un-Named Continents With Suggestions: Pink: Fish Island / Ellesmere / Devonia / Arrosia Cyan: Westhaven / Ellesmere / Cyanea / Cilesta White: Nothandryun / Bielica For more suggestions or agreements with suggestions above, please do post. |

In memory of Atheistic Right.... Pink = Darwinista? |
Posted by: Lamoni Jul 7 2006, 05:12 PM |
I have no problems with Auzeria. |
Posted by: Bettia Jun 15 2007, 10:14 AM |
Well, it's been almost a year since ther last suggestions, and there's still three continent names that need confirming. Any more suggestions? |
Posted by: Az-cz Jun 15 2007, 08:37 PM |
The continent I'm on is pink? It looks purple to me. Regardless I nominate that if my landmass is unnamed it be called Hokushi, bastardized Japanese for Northern Purple. |
Posted by: Maraque Jun 25 2007, 01:59 AM |
Nothandryun sounds good to me for white. |
Posted by: Valanora Apr 2 2009, 08:56 AM |
Seeing as how I've listed in my wiki as such, I wonder if we can come to an agreement that the "Pink" (it looks purple to me) continent be named Arrosia? |
Posted by: Starblaydia Apr 2 2009, 09:00 AM |
As you're now the only on on there bar Iizaarland, heh, I don't see why not. |
Posted by: Krytenia Apr 23 2009, 02:51 PM
Excellent. My plan is coming together... |
Posted by: Sarzonia Apr 23 2009, 04:10 PM |
Now that Sarzonia is currently the only nation on the Cyan continent, and recalling how much I liked the "Haven" part of the name, I'd like to suggest naming it Easthaven. If, however, Vilita maintains his longtime opposition to references to specific geography, I'd like to use the name Cyanea. |
Posted by: Falcania Apr 27 2009, 11:11 AM |
Can I just point out that the colour-based names for continents sound like utter ass? I hate being in "verdenia." |
Posted by: Sarzonia Apr 28 2009, 09:41 PM
Did the other players whose countries reside on the continent vote on the name? If they picked it, tough luck. |
Posted by: Allemenschen Apr 29 2009, 01:36 PM
You could try offering an alternative continent name. Berpszalot Gatagonia Itzalaiva Dudymessenia (or just Messenia) Fark Voopz Wairizit Gaddlygluckenstein For a reference, the Allenfolk call our the continent upon which we exist "Sforzaheim" - which translates as "home of stinky smells". Haven't the faintest clue what other people call it (although a good deal of looking might help out...). |
Posted by: Krytenia Aug 14 2009, 06:51 PM |
As we have had little movement on this, I propose the following happen: Officially Named Continents: Yellow: Calania Green: Verdena Orange: Paripana Red: (Terra) Foringana Blue: Auzeria Cyan: Cyanea (by default as Sarzonia is the only resident) Pink: Arrosia White: Nothandryun |
Posted by: Sorthern Northland Aug 14 2009, 07:16 PM |
I quite like Bielica, though I prefer Nothandryun so I'll agree with the proposal. |
Posted by: Falcania Aug 15 2009, 06:04 AM |
I propose renaming the continent of Verdenia, on the grounds that, as previously suggested, colour-based names sound utter ass. My suggestion: Luciterra, literally "Land of Light" |
Posted by: Maraque Sep 4 2009, 07:20 AM
+1. OOoh, I already posted in here, didn't I? Oh well. :S |
Posted by: Sarzonia Sep 6 2009, 10:58 PM
Again, what do your continental neighbours think of your proposal? If they like the colour-based name and want to keep it, you've got to live with it or find another landmass. Having said that, I like the name you've suggested. EDIT: I notice that I originally proposed calling the continent I'm on Easthaven. I'd like to stick with that if possible (that is, if Vilita doesn't have veto authority over the name). |
Posted by: Falcania Sep 7 2009, 07:58 AM
I haven't seen Hypocria or Bettia around for a while, and I don't know who Bostopia is. Anyone? Bostopia? |
Posted by: 95X-Scottfire Sep 8 2009, 11:38 PM
Name sounds familiar, possibly from when I hung around some of the IRC channels. But other than that, no I don't know them. |
Posted by: Krytenia Sep 13 2009, 11:52 AM |
Bostopia is one of the football-RPing nations. He's also on holiday in Florida at the moment... |
Posted by: Sorthern Northland Sep 14 2009, 09:48 AM |
And he's no longer in AO anyway. Hasn't been for some time. |
Posted by: Falcania Sep 14 2009, 01:59 PM |
That's one checked off the list. Bettia and Hypocria yet to answer the call. |
Posted by: Falcania Sep 18 2009, 04:13 PM |
Call answered! Luciterra, here we are! |
Posted by: Bettia Sep 19 2009, 07:33 AM |
As y'all may have seen on the message board, both me and Hypocria have agreed with Falc's proposal to rename our landmass Luciterra. |
Posted by: Bettia Nov 25 2009, 06:02 AM |
So, we have: Yellow: Calania Green: Verdena Orange: Paripana Red: (Terra) Foringana Blue: Auzeria Cyan: Cyanea (by default as Sarzonia is the only resident) Pink: Arrosia White: Nothandryun And we can add Vircæis, the landmass to the south of Luciterra containing Vephrall and Kura-Pelland. If I'm not mistaken, that's all of them, right? |
Posted by: Nanwe Nov 25 2009, 12:54 PM |
Does anybody have an idea for that archipelago where Nanwe is located?, because Nanwe Archipelago is too simple |
Posted by: unreal229 Nov 26 2009, 11:53 AM
Actually, I inhabit the north of that landmass, but the map isn't updated. Still, I use the Unrealish name of Cynax. So Cyanea is fine. As for Nanwe, how about something like Carpathico Archipelago? I don't really know...although I do have that one island on the edge of it, you can call it what you want. Perhaps it could take the name of the past claimant, not sure who that was. |
Posted by: Falcania Nov 26 2009, 06:56 PM
Luciterra. That's been the crux of this thread in recent weeks. |
Posted by: Nanwe Nov 27 2009, 11:36 AM
Thanks, I'll see, however I think that the map is not going to be updated at least we do it ourselves because Ch haven't been here for a long time... |
Posted by: Bettia Nov 30 2009, 06:44 AM
Sorry, my bad. |
Posted by: Falcania Nov 30 2009, 08:13 PM |
Awesome sauce. |
Posted by: Zegrondi Mahr Aug 4 2010, 06:59 PM |
From: The Princep Dominus of Zegrondi Mahr To: The Leaders and Governments of Atlantian Oceania "We hereby present our government, people and nation to the leaders and governments of this region. We extend our friendship to all nations and our hand in unity, so that we may remain strong and great, now and forever." 1) We have lived hidden from your eyes, in the darkness of the woods, more a collective of tribes than a nation. Now we have discovered the ways of modernity and we fully grasp the nature of the international world, we now know that for as blind as you were to us, we were just as blind of you. It was not until the decline of the sophisticated peoples around us were we enlightened to the opportunity to grow, much of their buildings and infrastructure was in ruins, but we found these ruins were easily re-built. The true peoples of Zegrondi Mahr have always been in this region but are happy to acquiesce to this simple request in order to be part of this multi-national community, there is so much trade and opportunity available now we have stepped into the mantle of civilization... We bring to the table a new spirituality that many call Shamanism, though with our modern living this is becoming more adaptive to society and has enveloped aspects of many new-age beliefs to become neo-shamanistic. We also have many natural and organic trout farms, which we know will be the best bit of trout you have ever tasted in the whole of the Atlantian Oceania. Many of us as individuals have travelled about the land, but with great difficulty, as our people have only recently accepted themselves as a collective nationality, we have no real border controls and are still trying to understand the need for identification and 'passports' - plus having been born in a nation that is not 'on the map', makes us feel ostracised and cut off from the rest of the world. However, we are new to the games of sports and politics, with many buildings destroyed, and few people available to re-educate us to any real standard of play, we are below par in many games. To outsiders our native games of squirrel throwing makes little sense, other games are just as bizarre, like plaje - where we seem to randomly throw small bags filled with beans at each other. 2) we already inhabit most of the region known as 22, if anyone will dispute our native rights to this land we hope this will not cause a dispute ending in conflict as we have no true weapons of your technology. We will if need be fight with crude weapons, slings, bats and sharpened pikes... many of us now drive cars and we know what aircraft are, so we will quickly adapt before we die and intend to stay here, if we are in contention with some other peoples they will be hurt as much as possible before we give up our liberty, nationality and freedoms. 3) we do not believe to be in breach of any flag legislation, and we also have historic material noted in our factbook which has been submitted elsewhere. However, we recognise and understand your curiousity and would be more than happy to provide you with as many additional details as possible. |

Was there any particular reason that the continent I am on was given the name Nothandryun? I like the name and am working on some things fro the distant past that may become more relevant in some of my RP. I was just wanting to know how much liberty I can take with the name in accordance to historical facts and possibly even some more current ideas. Thanks. |
Posted by: Legalese May 31 2012, 10:02 PM
Unless I missed it, it sounds like a name that was proposed, and simply happened as nobody on the landmass at the time objected. Considering the fact that it's home to Tachbe and Sorthern Northland, however, might be a good time to re-name it to the Draggoni for "Land that Glows" |
Posted by: Andossa Se Mitrin Vega May 31 2012, 10:21 PM |
Thaczil Bao'bot Qan'escic does have a nice ring to it |
Posted by: Legalese Jun 1 2012, 04:15 PM
I think the new Legal term for it will be "A long ways away" |
