AO Forum :: > Regional Discussion > The Amazing Race!

Posted by: Pacitalia Jan 10 2006, 08:13 PM
Okay, so I'd been planning to do this for a while but now that I'm in a big region it seems like it would be all the more fun. So, here's what I'm going to do.

Those of you familiar with Amazing Race will not need an explanation. Depending on the length of the race / number of available episodes, between 10 and 12 teams of two will race around the AO region for a shot at one million doura. The team that finishes last each leg will be eliminated until the competition is narrowed to three finalist teams competing for the big prize. The race will start and end in Pacitalia but AO nations signed up here on the boards can contribute destinations and places within the country of which the teams can visit during the race. There will be detours, road blocks, yields, fast forwards, pit stops, non-elimination legs...and, of course, language barriers. smile.gif

However, you will not know whether your destination is included in the race, like in RL. You'll just have to wait for each episode to come out. wink.gif

Any takers? I'm looking for at least 20 destinations, but I hope for 30. Any leftover destinations and countries will most definitely be included in version 2 of this, if I decide to do it. And we might do a version where international contestants are allowed to participate.

If you need more information on The Amazing Race, check out the CBS.com show website or the Wikipedia article.

Racing what, exactly?

Posted by: Pacitalia Jan 10 2006, 08:22 PM
Haven't you ever seen the show? They use whatever mode of transportation they need to get around. Or whatever the producers say they have to use. Chariot, taxi, rental car, airplane, ferry, bike, walking... anything to get them to the next destination.

It's on CBS, right? CBS broadcasts in this little country called America, you may have heard of it. I, however, live somewhat to the east of this place, in a far-off quaint land called England, where we dont get CBS.

... I get the show in Singapore tongue.gif

EDIT: Chacor's more than willing to put forward some of our northern deserts for the show...

Posted by: Lamoni Jan 10 2006, 09:12 PM
Lamoni would be willing to compete, and come up with some destinations.

Posted by: Sarzonia Jan 11 2006, 12:24 AM
Sarzonia would be more than willing to provide destinations, such as the headquarters of the world famous Portland Iron Works, the USS Constitution museum, the Naval Museum, Bryan Marshall Stadium, and others just dying to be included. tongue.gif

Nedalia definitely has some destinations in mind, such as the Shamsa Desert and the Bren-Brooks Wildlife Reserve (in collaboration, ofcourse, with Bettia.)

Yup, sounds cool.

As for any Bettian destinations, I think a jaunt through the Banastra Rainforest would be nice, with perhaps a visit to Sweeney Falls to finish.

Posted by: Hockey Canada Jan 11 2006, 11:44 AM
Hockey Canada would be willing to add some cold entries as destinations. The barren mountain cities of Omsk and Irkutsk in the Snow Desert should be enough.

BTW Sarz, Nice signature

Posted by: Falcania Jan 11 2006, 01:34 PM
Falcania would like to join. We have many many places to do this shiznitz, such as the Tigris mountains and Featbridge Square.

Edit: For us English people with satellite, apparently there are some reruns on LIVINGtv2, and in Singapore it is repeated on Wednesdays on Channel 5.

Edit2: Is there any limit to the vehicles you can compete in?

Posted by: Pacitalia Jan 11 2006, 02:54 PM
It depends on where you need to go. If a destination is down the road from the clue box, you'd walk. If it's a couple clicks away, you'd bike or take a ferry. 10-800km you'd be given a car by the show, or a taxi. Over that, you'd get air tickets.

That kind of thing.

Posted by: Pacitalia Jan 11 2006, 02:56 PM
Oh, and for those that have posted, describe what kind of activities you would like to take place at the locations you've listed.

Hubana City is building a new 130k all-seater stadium, perhaps the teams could be asked to help build a small section or looking for a seat wth a cluebox among the 40,000 already-built seats (Stade Olympic Amazing Race 8 anyone?)... the desert weather will also pose a problem, and they could perhaps be asked to drive an all-terrain veicle acorss the sand dunes in the desert as a roadblock...

Posted by: Pacitalia Jan 16 2006, 05:53 PM
Any other destinations, folks?

Posted by: Lamoni Jan 16 2006, 09:11 PM
Lamoni could provide a long jungle/forest hike (in the western half of Lamoni) and even a mountain climb (on Mt. Pikasu) in order to find a clue box. Even a desert trek (in the eastern half of Lamoni).

Posted by: Nojika Jan 16 2006, 10:27 PM
Surely the islands of Nojika could provide for some tropical destinations. If needed, I will post the names of cities and any other usefull information.

Posted by: Legalese Jan 17 2006, 12:37 AM
Here's one:

Teams will have to travel to Francopolis, Legalese, where a possible fast forward could include successfully getting a court case dismissed by acting as a public defender. From there, they could continue on to Pt. Dien, on the banks of Bekk Lake, while those needing to complete a challenge would have to stop off in Binchensburg, where they'd have to argue (and win) a small claims case.

WQe are very much intrested in the Amzing Race taking place on our land. Our Island of Somaliø will appreciate it greatly.

Here ar some suggestions for the Show.

1. A Hike through the Inner Deep forests, Its a dangerous place where only very indegenious tribes live. The Show can use some of those tribes to hide clues, give them a list of forests guides to choose from and a map and let them take a chance of getting the clue from a specific tribe.

2. The Beaches, although very highly populated, can be a very intresting place for a show like this. a clue could be hidden or an event can take place in the Beaches to show the magnificent land that Somaliaø harbours. There are lots of people on the beaches daily and this could make for a lot of fun for the ratings of your show.

3. The Ports in Somaliø are very nice and world class. they have build a repetation over the years for being a place where only the tough can work, a clue hiddent there would certanly bring the masses to their TV stations to watch how the participants can react to the hard and very tough working conditions of hardned men, where there only business is finishing what is on their agenda. this could be a very *high ratings* show if it ever happened.

Should the Amazing AO Race occur, Chicanada would be very interested in seeing one leg or two occur within it's boundaries. Considering our national income is based on Trout Fishing, we could see competitors joining up with crews to get a certain amout of fish (probably in kilos to make it more interesting) as well as other water-based contests (such as kayaking down one of our major rivers).

The cities of Cana and Southampton would also be interested in hosting parts of legs. With the sheer size of Cana, as well as it being the heart of the political side of things, the city could have endless options for competitions. Southampton would be more than willing to let the well-known Southampton National Square be used for any sort of thing (considering it's sports adaptability, host the Cherry Cup finals as well as the NS Champions League 7 Grand Finals it could easily accomidate either or other sports).

We're definitly interested in seeing what Pacitalia has in mind for this and how we could help out!

Just making sure everyone knows you need to have a spot on the AO map to be able to have your destinations in the race. If not, I can wait until you get one - I don't think I have enough yet anyway.

Sure, stroll all around Spruitland, we don't mind, the Minister of Tourism says.

We can think of some stuff the participants would enjoy.
Finding a remote location in the wide marihuana and Spruit fields surrounding Sativa, comes to mind, where the contestants have to complete an obstacle course after eating a kilogram of Spruits. Very challenging, since after eating a kilo of Spruits, walking in a straight line will be quite an achievement. Not to mention, just staying awake.
After that, perhaps, transporting a few hundred kilogram of crop to the capital, in a van that has "get your free drugs here!" painted on it.

There are several places in ASMV that might be of interst.

1st Meldenburg in the Mountain Territories. The women here are massive - avg 6'6 350lbs and have long beards. Conventional wisdom says no one wants to wrestle these women biggrin.gif

2nd. Errion Vega. This is the capital of ASMV. A unique trial here would be to swim the Draggonnii Straits to the Island of De Marte.

3rd. Asuncion where some of the best whitewater in the world can be found.

Atheistic Right would like to be a destination... for the Amazing Race...

1. Sell 5 Computers Door-to-Door

2. get some human meat it will be cooked and then it has to be eaten (Good road block)

3. Any pitstop will be at the Natural Stadium.... must sleep on the field no beds... but swags and the like are fine

Also you may want to invest into body-guards

Posted by: Pacitalia Mar 28 2006, 11:48 AM
That is a good road-block. tongue.gif

Okay, I think I have enough destinations to start this now.

Perhaps next week, perhaps in 2. But it is coming. Promo ads will be up shortly. Any networks that wish to broadcast this in their country should come forth ASAP so I can send you the logos and shat for your own use. And, yes, it will be in English, though if you have a Pacitalian-only or ethnic network that wishes to broadcast it on a secondary transmission rights and televisual agreement (STRATA) may do so as well.

(Meaning the RPs will be in English).

Posted by: Pacitalia Apr 17 2006, 09:49 PM
I haven't created any teams yet.

Posted by: Pacitalia May 1 2006, 08:53 PM
Those wishing to submit a list of teams for consideration may do so starting now. I've changed my mind and have decided to do an international version this time around instead of all-Pacitalian.

Rules of Submission
Nations may submit a list of no more than eleven (11) teams for consideration as Contestants on the AO Amazing Race.

A Team is defined herein as a group of two persons, both over the age of twenty (20) and without major physical or mental disability, thus the ability to compete in athletic or intellectual challenges within the Race. This is not meant to discriminate against challenged persons, but simply to create a race environment that is more enjoyable and acceptable for all involved in the production of the Programme.

Members of each team must be, as mentioned, at least twenty (20) years of age at the time of submission. They must not have a past record of criminal behaviour both major and/or unresolved, and must be a legal citizen of the country that submits them as Candidate Teams and have been so for more than thirty-six (36) months prior to submission.

Countries must submit a first name, last name, age, marital status, sexual orientation, profession and hometown for each member. Candidate Teams will not be discriminated upon for sexual orientation, profession or marital status, this is simply to aid the Pacitalian Television Network (PTN) in understanding and creating a properly-balanced group of Teams to compete in the race, and for viewers also to understand who is racing.

A maximum of one (1) team from each country will be submitted and regretfully we must also add that we reserve the right to omit countries all together - in other words, some countries may not have any teams picked for the final 11. The final choices will be notified through communication and will be expected in Timiocato for the start of filming, with details supplemented later.

In anticipation of a Manhattanite team competing in the Amazing Race, a large proportion of the population have said in a recent survey they intend to track the team's progress, mainly over the internet.

Therefore the government of Manhattan Prime has reached an agreement with Pacitalia in which PBC will be recievable from Manhattan Prime for the first time, the first foriegn channel to be granted such a license.

OOC:

(You could get it previously, but it was more a case of sticking a satellite dish on your house, and hoping you were pointing it the right way, you might get lucky!)

In other words, a rather long-winded Bump, and a 'we're looking forward to this'.

Posted by: Krytenia Nov 14 2006, 08:49 PM
KBS would also be interested in airing this independently of PBC (which is not available on terrestrial television, only on cable and sattelite); the show will be shown on KBS Two, with a two-hour delay from the PBC broadcast, at 20:00 AOTC+0000.

EDIT: I can't believe I didn't submit a destination! The bustling Everton City, laden with traffic and sights, would be a good entry point for a Krytenian leg; the man-made Lake Warzycha (formed by the Warzycha Dam) is around thirty miles outside the city limits and could serve as an end point. An idea for a roadblock is...an actual road based roadblock. Cab drivers will pull up and drive off at a specified point; the teams are each given the cab's ID number (on the top of the car, next to the word "TAXI"), and must hail the correct cab at this point. Hailing the wrong cab means going around the block before trying again; hailing the right cab means they'll take you to the next waypoint.

Heh, the Liverpool England-Chacor team will no doubt be followed closely in both countries. As such, the Sports Network of Liverpool England, the country's first private TV station, are interested in broadcasting the show to The Heartland, outside of Atlantian Oceania.

In addition to the standard PBC broadcast (which would air as early as 18:00 local time due to Bedistan spanning multiple time zones), Amalgamated Broadcasting Corporation of the Dominion (ABCD) would like to offer its own feed for the benefit of the more-populated western part of the nation. Broadcast time would be 21:00 AOTC, a three-hour delay from the original broadcast.

Posted by: Pacitalia Nov 16 2006, 03:48 PM
OOC: Yeah, I like Star's, it's most similar to the RL version.

As for the broadcasting deals with KBS, ABCD and SNLE, go for it.
