OOC: This is for all IC (in-character) posts, where Latao is being attacked by Starblaydia, aomng others. Can we please keep the story in this thread, and the conversation and dicussion in the OOC (out-of-character) one, which is http://www.3wideracing.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=644. All posts in this thread should be IC. So, without further ado, here we go:

IC:

It was a complex and massive operation, but then again these sorts of things always are. Starblaydi forces were stepping into motion to do the action they were trained for. Killing things.

With Starblaydia itself so far from 'the Fatherland', the Reich of Latao, there were several inherent problems, but most could be overcome with the aid of her allies. The largest and strongest battle fleet ever put to sea by Starblaydia was already passing Xile on its way south. Naval versions of the Nightwing stealth craft protected it from the air, while massive guns and hidden submarines protected them from any threats in the water. Battlecruisers, Aircraft Carriers, Destroyers, Frigates and Cruisers, all the brand-new designs from Samosisos and Penningworth shipyards were included. Helicopter Assault Craft, Tankers and Supply ships also tagged along behind, with their own protection. All in all over nearly a hundred warships were on their way to tell Latao, the Region and the World that nuclear proliferation in the hands of madmen would not be tolerated on any level.

Breaking out into open water beyond the South Cove, the fleet adopted the classic ciruclar defence formation to protect against air, surface and underwater threats. They sailed at best possible speed, around twenty-four knots for the entire fleet, towards Latao and her island dependancy. Soon they would be in range.

Elsewhere, there were Starblaydi bombers in the air.

Topping off their fuel tanks from KC-10 tankers, the large flight of B2 stealth bombers - staged out of Xilean bases - eased towards their targets. Four squadrons - some 24 bombers - headed for Latao, while two other Squadrons - numbering 12 B2s - had the small island Latao had 'claimed' as their target. The Seventh Bomber Wing of the Starblaydi Air Force would show its true might tonight.

Flying extremely high, at the very limit of their operational range, the B2s approached Latin shores. Their mission was simple: Knock out the Radar and Air defences at the edge of Latin territory. Carrying four massive bombs each, nearly one hundred smart bombs would be raining down on the Radar Sites, Power Stations and Relay Stations, as well as the Air-Defence installations of Latao itself. Many miles to the east, nearly fifty of these devastating weapons would be dropping on the small island of Latao's annexation.

Already resuce helicopters were lifting off from the Battlefleet, preparing for any pilots they may have to pick up. Nightwing fighters took to the air with Phoenix long-range air-to-air missiles to protect the helicopters and engage any Latin fighter brave, or perhaps stupid, enough to counter-attack Starblaydi craft.

This was, strangely enough, their opening gambit in the fight to preserve the peace of the region. 'If you want peace, prepare for war' the old paradox said, which was precisely what Starblaydia had been doing all these years.

President Smith: "Hey, aren't we supposed to be in some sort of alliance with those Latin guys."

Unnamed helper: "The FLMS, sir."

President Smith: "Well, I don't like this. We need to do all we can to show that we don't approve of such behaviour in Druida. Give them an ultimatum. Either we go or they go."

Unnamed helper: "Right sir. I'm onto it!"

President Smith: "Oh, and tell people not to attack us. We've still got a load of giant dodgeballs to fire, we've got plenty from the Dodgeball: Goliath amnesty we held, and we're not afraid to use them!"

Unnamed helper: "We're not?"

President Smith: "Well, obviously, we won't, but tell them we might, OK?"

Unnamed helper: "Understood, sir."

Abattoirian pilots walked out on the runway and headed to their planes. The Starblaydia attack force was quickly approaching Latin territory and the fighter wing was supposed to follow closely behind.

Heading off into the night the B2's caught site of the Latin coastline on radar. The mission of hitting every factory and commercial airport possible. Cutting off the lifeline of the country and limiting ability for counterattack or wartime preparation.

Word from Phase I of the attack would be getting back to command shortly and the pilots would know the extent of Starblaydi success.

From: The Free Republic of Lamoni
To: Starblaydia

The Free Republic requests that we be allowed to use our commercial freighters to evacuate our civilians from Latao.  We will precede this with a message to all Lamonian civilians in Latao to leave Latao, and hope to have all our civilians moved within two to three days, dependent on weather on the ground.  Our respects to the Lord-Protector.

All over Latao, a signal was sent out by every possible method that all Lamonian civilians should proceed to Latao's north coast in order to be evacuated by freighter, or remain behind at their own risk. Lamoni would not have her civilians used as a bargaining chip by either side.

"This is a worrying situation, my good friend, a worrying situation," commented 1st President Andrew Bren of Nedalia.

"Mr. President, if I may....Latao has done nothing but threaten, deceive, and lie...and we should know, we experienced it first hand. I cannot see how this is a bad thing," replied Dewars Strand, Nedalia's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"You're not looking at this the way I am, Dewars. The situation in northern Sarzonia has completely deteriorated, with the new rebellion and all, and now the initial bombing of Latao has thrown the region into a fullscale escalation. We are looking at full on Atlantian war. What is more worrying is the fact that Latao is not but a couple of hours from here."

"I see what you are saying. But you know, there is no reason to worry. We are not involved in any of these wars, nor do we have any reason to."

"Dewars, listen to me. In a state of war, anyone attacks anyone else. There are no ethics, no morals. Landgrabbing is plentiful. What was your official statement on the matter, anyhow?"

"I did not release one, Mr. President. We haven't met and discussed our official stance on the matter."

"Get the Council ready for a meeting in no more than 3 hours."

"Yes, Mr. President."

"PRESIDENT ASHALLOND!" As the aide ran into the room holding a piece of paper. "Sir, where are you?"

"What is it? It can't be that bad, the last of the colony ships is about to be dismanted."

"War, sir. Starblaydia and Latao."

"Damn, Latao's just south of us. That's the one thing we don't need while we are rebuilding our civilization. Order the navy to begin to protect our coastal waters. Send a relay to the air defense force to be on the lookout for stray attack wings. I do not want any part of this war."

"Yes, sir."

President Ashallond scribbles a note and then hands it to the aide. "Have this sent to all warring parties and their allies...and do it quickly."

"Yes, sir."

QUOTE

To all parties in the Starblaydia-Latao conflict:

While the soveriegn state of the Eagle's Nest watches closely this conflict, we do not wish to be a part of this conflict. To this extent, our borders, airspace, and coastal waters are closed from all ships of conflict. We will be a neutral nation in this conflict. Commercial and trade ships may continue to use Nest airspace, waterways, and overland routes, persuant to a search to ensure that they are not an undercover ship. Any such ship will be turned around, or upon refusing to leave soverign Nest air/land/water space will be sequestered and/or destroyed.

The Nest will assist in humanitarian efforts if asked, but has no desire to be involved in this conflict. May God watch over you in this dangerous time.

The Lamonian freighters had reached the north coast of Latao, and were taking as many Lamonian civilians as they could hold. The Lamonian Frigate FRLS Bangor was sitting still in international waters, just to keep an eye on the operation. Lamoni was going to be neutral in this conflict unless forced into it.

NEC-Leader Omsec is speaking to hundreds of thousands of armed citizens, in either uniform or civil at a huge outdoor place

Folk of Latao!
Yesterday, a coalition of killers has come together to ambush the peace-loving nation of ours! They destroyed several buildings and murdered numerous Latins.

Now I say, since today, 6 in the morning, we are firing back!
Let they know, that any guys who slaughter Latin people such as pilots and snipers are shot immediately, while the rest ends up as war-workers in concentration camps building bombs and ammo for our battle of destiny.

I say Latao was forced into the war and didn’t want. We may go down in this war, but we will take a region with us! Surrender we will not!

If they drop 100 kilograms of bombs per night over Latao, we drop 1000 kilograms!
If they explain, they will heavily attack Latin cities, we will erase their cities!

For god’s sake, Latao’s anti-air installations are damaged, but still useable, enabling us to shot down many of the foreign agressors.

Latao declares war on the Holy Saints

To increase war-important resources and gain strategic territory, the Latao Fatherland Forces (FF) have marched in with 5 billion men into THS-land.
Any resistance will be stamped out with an iron fist! THS-pigs slaughtering Latao soldiers are executed on the fly. Useful men and women are integrated into regular Latao forces or deported to concentration camps where they build military resources, such as ammo, grenades and tanks.

If the THS would have controlled Great Latao’s North for another few decades, everything would be gone to rack and get dirty. The race of THS needs a strong lord-hand now to lead it and to order things – the region shall amend on the Latin spirit!

They flee but we trace them!

Now we’re back in our element again as merciless tracers and hunters – it’s we giving the tact not you Lord Starblayde.
There’s no power on god’s earth that can stop us now, not even you Tiberius or the beasts of your soldiers.

I am sure this destiny battle can not end without the complete demolition of one of the two opponents.
Lord Tiberius may think this is going to be Latao, but I say it will be Starblaydia!

And if one of these allied murders really is crazy enough to enter Latao’s mainland they shall pay the blood price!
As for the time being no citizens of Starblaydia or Abbatoir leave Latao as they are detained as adversary foreigners.

Heil!
Latao over all!

"You must be -explicitive removed-ing kidding me. Latao is turning its entire population into an army and invading THS? Who the hell is going to make the equipment, providing food, and so many other minor details that is going to keep their troops alive. Its simply not feasible. They are going to cripple themselves," stated President Bren.

"Yes sir, its the stupidest thing Ive ever heard. What are they thinking? The Starblaydians are going to wipe them off the face of the earth. The worst strategy I have ever heard of," replied Commander Horacio.

"These Latins are certainly doing what they can to drive AO's reputation down the drain. Ay...don't call up the reserves yet, but make sure to begin preparing the army. How many active soldiers do we have?"

"About 950,000 sir. I will begin preparing our defenses immediately. Good day, sir."

OCC: Sorry, that was a typo. I meant of course 5 Million men, not 5 billion :-)

Cloaked jets of the Latao air forced started to bomb major THS-cities including the capital and goverment seats and Starblaydi outposts this morning around 4am.

Numerous villages and Starblaydi outposts have been completly destroyed and burned down by marching FF-squads and regular Latao military troops. We're making more and more prisoneres every day which are deported to camps in the conqured lands which will be their last station in this war.

Our fellow women are helping in the 'homefront'; they provide reparature, food and medical services to the victims of the killer-alliance together with the males that are not fighting for their country and its freedom at the front.

War-Slaves and Latao civilists are producing heavy military material, ammo and other supplemental goods in 24h shift working while the NEC and its general staff plans its next move.

In case Starblaydia decides to enter Lataos mainland, it will end in a disastrous bloodbath, where every meter of the homeland will be defeated to the last man.

A fleet of vessels and submarines have been positioned in the waters nourth-east of Latao near the two temple and east island to prevent Nedalia from taking imprudent actions and to ensure Starblaydi-killers aren't going to move foods and goods to their outposts.

This war of destiny is a question of to be or not be and cannot end without the complete destruction of one of the two opponents. If it's that what Lord Tiberius wants, he's gonna pay an unholy high price for it as Latao will never surrender not as long there is one man and two bullets left.
We rather kill ourselfs in the hour of destiny than living under the fist as a beaten slavery folk.

Power and Glory - Blood and Honor!

King Falcon is prepared to let Starblaydian forces use Jayla (southern part of Falcanian Free Kingdom, bordering Cockbill Street) as a "Stepping Stone" to reach Latao. This decision was made after a failed attempt by Latao to get me onside. No mate.

Posted by: Abattoir May 25 2005, 02:08 PM
A small fleet of the Abattoirian navy secured the area around the island to the southeast of Latao, enabling the establishment of a small military outpost. Troops and supplies began to arrive by shipments, and the construction of a small airbase had begun.

The KNS Bearclaw, a battleship of less than six years' service, and its sister ship, the KNS Boartusk, merely a year older, sailed past the southern cape of Nedalia, trailing behind them the remainder of the Krytenian peacekeeping fleet. Four conventially-powered submarines followed, the KSS Ursis, the KSS Unity, the KSS Vulcan, and the KSS Vermilia, and behind them the two huge aircraft carriers, each carrying an entire squadron of the KAF (twelve fighters, two bombers). The KNS Linford carried India Squadron, while the KNS Remires carried the ferarsome veterans of Tango Squadron.

Their mission: Intercept the Latin Navy. Bomb and shoot them to smithereens. Repeat as needed.

Lamoni will allow Starblaydi, Abattoirian, and Krytenian naval vessels to use Lamonian ports.

As the military situation is becoming more and more difficult and since it had become hard to hide these facts from the people, Latao is falling into chaos deeper each day.

The common people in Latao start to lose their trust in the national leaders and an increasing number of citizens start to think that this regime is totally crazy.

After NEC minister of Defense and War suddenly left the capital city of Luciaria for doing “important jobs” as he said somewhere in the south west of the country, he’s car got stopped by angry people, put on fire and the minister was finally shot by an unknown.

The regime used this event as reason for its iron fists acts against people that do not want to complay with the regime and enemies in their own rows which they call “buddy murders”.
Witnesses report from civilest being hanged on trees for “collaborating with the enemy”.

The Latao general staff has barricaded itself in their leader bunkers to plan the end battle. Latao’s armies in the conquered THS-territories are preparing for their fallback as the bombing of allied forces is getting more intensive each day.

The order to the north-troops given by the NEC is as follows:

FF-Squads and members of the Latao military: The enemy is currently preparing massive attacks against our homeland. Abbatoir-Forces are surrounding Latao and get positions near Latin waters.

Gentlemen, prepare for a destruction war! Defend the Latin homeland with merciless cruelty to the last man. The foreign invaders must be stopped our borders no matter the costs. Anyone that is going to surrender will be immediately executed by the FF.

In this situation we can not make any more prisoners – therefore, any resistance from any source is to be stamped out with all methods required.

You are fighting for Latao, for the Latao race, for Latao blood! Long live the nation!

Helper troops of the Latin armies move huge amounts of war prisoners to the front lines and Latao’s coasts to use them use human shields against possible invaders. Divisions are currently taking position all along coasts and beaches to ‘welcome’ the foreign killers with a hailstorm of bullets from hell. While the people are preparing to defend their cities with everything they can find. Citizens bare barricading roads and collecting foods, weapons and ammo.

NEC-Leader Roger Omsec in one of his last speeches

Folk of Latao
The enemy is about to open a door to hell! Our race must prepare for the final battle! There is only Fight and Victory or Death!
We will defend our homeland no matter the costs, we are bound and determined to defend our freedom and our pride until the last man!

If Tiberius Starblayde and his killers wants to enter our loved home country it shall be his end!

Posted by: Falcania May 27 2005, 11:05 AM
Falcania has decided to go to war, backing up Starblaydia. The following speech was made by him today.

My fellow Falcanians.

These past few months have been a difficult time for all of us. Mainly because of the Latin we have had the misfortune to associate with.

Many of you will note the number of Latin-originated problems this region has had. We have remained neutral for most of them. But now this neutrality ends.

This day, we will fight the Latin. We will fight alongside Starblaydia and Abbatoir. We will fight, we may die. But we will fight nonetheless! So if you are in the dirt, with a Latin at your throat, cry "For the Falcon!" When you are leaping out of a tank, or a plane, or a boat, ready to give the Latin a taste of hot steel, cry "For the Falcon!"

As you go now, shout! "FOR THE FALCON!"

250,000 soldiers are on their way to Latao, via the southern straits.

Posted by: Latao May 27 2005, 01:17 PM
My Leader, we’re having another problem!
What’s now ?

Falcania declared War on us.
What ?! That fat bitch ?! – God damn!

NEC-Leader Omsec immediately broadcasted the news to his generals:

Gentlemen, today King Falcon decided to move to war against the glory nation of Latao. His words were like “we will fight, we may die” – so ensure they ARE gonna die!

I consider that as good news. Finally we have them there were we can beat them! While they stay off and hide in Falcania, we couldn't catch them - now we will erase them!

My Leader, the north east fleet reported enemy contact with the Starblaydi! Our submarines and vessels are under massive attacks but performing fierce resistance. For the being, our naval forces sank 3 Starblaydi vessels, while we lost 4 submarines. Obviously these dicks found a way to decode our transmission signals which keys are currently being changed each 15 mins – we should withdraw within the next few ours, my Leader.

No! The god damn position is to be hold! At any costs! We must not free the south-east passage to the homeland! If we withdraw, Starblaydia and Abbatoir forces have free way to transport war goods and foods to their outposts to prepare their strike against Latao’s mainland.

Your men shall however prepare to secure all beaches, as we do not know yet where and how the Falcanians are going to intercept.

We will reply to King Falcon with a hailstorm of fire and death they will never forget! I consider any move by Falcon as open resistance against the fatherland that will be stamped out with an iron fist!

"Mr. Senior Vice President!"

Senior Vice President for External Affairs Mark Lorber was looking up. President Mike Sarzo was in Hamptonshire attending to Ducal matters and Senior Vice President for Internal Affairs Nicole Lewis was preparing for a holiday in her favourite vacation spot in Pacitalia, so Lorber was running the country.

"Yes, Joe?"

"Sir," the college-aged intern replied breathlessly, "Falcania has just declared war on Latao. That makes it three countries against them."

"And you want us to do what, exactly?"

"Support them."

"Who?"

"Uh."

"We're not on good terms with Latao, remember? I know Starblaydia and Abattoir aren't exactly on our Christmas card list, but I'm not going to commit Sarzonian men and women to a war against Tweedle Dum because Tweedle Dumber is in trouble."

"But sir! The SAAS..."

"I don't give a damn about the SAAS right now. Our national interests are not involved in what happens to Latao. Frankly, I'd like to see them burn to the ground. Maybe that will give them some humility."

Frustrated, the intern turned and walked out of Lorber's office. Lorber grimaced and stood up to look out the window.

Figures the one time we have a chance to do something about those Starblaydis they're fighting Latao, he thought. The very thought of those Latins makes me sick.

Posted by: Latao May 28 2005, 05:23 AM
It must be clear to the leaders of the regime at this time that this is not about victory anymore. Winning this war has become an illusion. If it is the destiny of the Latao people to go down in this murder war of the century, it shall be, but surrender we will not!

As this war can not be won no more, we shall defense the loved homeland and our culture and blood till the total destruction of the Latao causing the highest damage and loss possible to the enemy invaders.

After the last five years of war, there’s only wreckage left of what was the mighty air force of Latao while wide parts of the naval infrastructure have been destroyed also.

The regime can barely defense its land from the increasing attacks flown against Latao now even during the day. Control over the international waterways near Latao has nearly been lost, so that it’s not very difficult for the coalition to transport fresh troops and goods to the front, as Latao’s formerly feared submarine hunters now have become the hunted.

Latao’s military and the Weapon-FF have widely withdrawn to the original borders. Military and other armed squads as well as the civil people are preparing for an invasion of Latao. Doors, windows and bunkers are being ‘secured’ with everything that can be found, people live in danger and state of permanent alert as the air alerts have become a daily happening.

As the wave of violence, started by the people of Latao is coming back to its roots, chaos and fear is on the rise in the once well ordered society. The regime regularly executes all kind of ‘enemies’, basically common people that lost trust into the leaders and their paroles.

The people start to realize that they were going into a wrong direction, their leaders have lied and cheated of them, sending them into a war for glory and power which was instead the beginning of the end for the old nationalist, militarist culture of Latao.

Public events of Omsec have become rare, while witness report that the highest leaders of the sinking regime seem to have lost any last connection to the real world finally. As the military situation is getting more and worse with each day and each telegram arriving the leader bunkers, discipline and morality sinks with the hope of a good end of this nightmare. They are celebrating wet parties with lots of booze, music and females while they do not seem to care what’s going on the bombed and demolished cities of the country.

Everyone knows, it is only a matter of time until the country is invaded and it starts – the final battle to defend every meter of the home ground. The people seem to know that they are going to pay for their doings during the war as paroles like enjoy the war – peace will be terrible can be found at any wall that’s not bombed away.

The regime is recruiting anything it can find for the last battle. The ‘folk storm’ basically consists of badly trained 16 years old and old people arming simply with 9mm pistols and some rifles and permanently short on ammo – but each with an iron mind ‘formed’ by the propaganda of the regime that makes them willing to fight to the outer limits for leader, folk and fatherland.

The People know, there’s only Fight and Victory or Death, since Latao is on a lost post without friends. Vampires and bloodhounds are just waiting to smash the Latin folk under their fist. It’s strictly forbidden to speak it out, what is clear to most people: The dream of the dominating world-power of the lord-race is gone, now Omsec has a 1.7 billion folk brought into pain – from this strike we not recover anymore, now we will live forever under the fist.

Let’s however stand together at the weapon fighting Starblaydia and Abbatoir and Falcania wherever we face them- we shall victory or go to Vallhalla!

"Control, this is India One. We are approaching Luciaria town centre now. I-Four and Seven are ready to release on your mark."

Amidst the panic and AA fire below, India Squadron flew over the centre of the Latin capital.

"Deploy. Deploy. Deploy."

The bomb bay doors of the two well sized bomber aircraft opened. Each dropped a 750lb fuel-air bomb. one hundred yards later, each dropped a second. Four explosions followed, and an entire city block crumbled to the floor. Then there was a fifth explosion, and a lone KAF pilot parachuted down into enemy territory.

"Control, this is India One. Package delivered succesfully. One casualty, India Ten was hit, the pilot bailed. Heading for home. Over and out."

Despite the treaty that Lamoni was using to send plans and train Latin nuclear personel, President Stone sent an aide to the Starblaydi embassy carrying a map of Latao with all known nuclear sites displayed on it. It wasn't exactly secret, and as the placement of the facilities was all done by Latao, it certainly wasn't going to give Starblaydia intel on Lamonian nuclear strategy.

The aide was ushered into the ambassador's office, where he shook hands with the ambassador, and handed him the map, saying, "While Lamoni won't be doing any fighting, President Stone has authorized NIA to give you whatever intel that we recieve on Latao. That map I gave you has the location of all known Latin nuclear facilities. We won't be asking for anything in return, yet."

Tiberius,

The Legions are ready for immediate deployment to the Lataoan area. Their command will be entrusted to Gaivs Marivs - Legendary commander of the I, II, III, and IV legions - who I will let report to you and your top generals.

A severe rebellion has broken out in the eastern provinces and I will be unable to assist in any of the actual military planning, but the resources of Roma stand ready to help.

I also have one last gift for you; if any cities are to be occupied, I offer to you three of our Cohors Vrbanvs to help quell any guerilla fighting and terrorist actions. I wouldn't underestimate them; if any of their work in the former lands of Bazarain is of any indicator, they get the job done... quite well.

"I love it when crappy little no-brain countries claim to have inflicted more casualties than they actually have," Admiral Yanosh Clarke chuckled to himself as he surveyed the positions of his fleet - very much intact - on the display table, "Maybe they sunk their own ships in the confusion."

It was a pity, really, that Latao had only started firing back well after the B-2 flights had dropped their smart bombs and returned to base. There was a fairly large hole in the Latin air-defence net, but no longer did the Forces of the Protectorate have the element of surprise. Which was also a pity. They did, however, have the initiative.

There were all sorts of ways to detect the approaching Latin fleet. You could look down from a plane and see their wake behind the ships, but that was a little risky to get that close. You could look down from a satellite, but that was never quite real-time, You could detect them through active radar emissions, but any Captain worth his salt would have shut those down, just like he had ordered his fleet to do.

Clarke had chosen yet another option, however. His submarines, quieter than your average cheese-thief mouse, were spread out before him, under the waves. Just by having their sonar operators listen they could track the ships of Latao, while evading their submarines too, he hoped.

They had a good idea of where the Latao ships were, of course, just not exactly, and he didn't want a sucide spotting mission by a pair of his Nightwing fighter craft. There was, however, a flight of SR-71 Blackbirds on their way out of Xile to fly well above the range of most surface-to-air missiles.

They should give him a perfect real-time picture of exactly where the ships of Latao werem then he'd decide the best way to kill them.

Against the will of NEC-Leader Omsec, high ranked general Rominger offered a partial-surrender to Abbatoir and peace in the north. It’s not known if he really believes in success of his move. He also sent out a telegram to the free Republic of Lamoni and the former enemy-of-mind, the incorporated States of Sarzonia. No one knows if this act of desperation is even being noticed by one of the victory-powers:

CODE

To you, generals and soldiers of Atlantian Oceania.
As you might know, the situation is difficult, but not lost – as the curtain has now yet fallen. We urge you as political leaders and soldiers of your nation to recognize your need of the NEC-State (Latao) as bulwark against the SAAS. As the situation is difficult we must stand together to prevent the SAAS having a stranglehold over Oceania. We are not questioning anything, all we do is to remind you not to forget what is your responsibility.

May god help us in this dark hour.

Having recieved the odd message from Latao, the Free Republic decided to send this message to General Rominger:

CODE
To: Gen. Rominger, Latao
From: Lamoni

We have recieved your message.

The Free Republic notes that it was Latin political leaders who started this war by their comments offending too many of the wrong people.  The only way to end this war with the survival of Latao as a sovereign nation would be for you to organize a coup, kill the Latin political leadership, and declare a cease-fire.  Lamonian troops could then act as peacekeepers if you request them.  You can restore the Latin political system with new ELECTED leaders after the war ends.

"President Tariskany, Latao has offered a partial surrender of her northern territories in return for a cease-fire."

Tariskany seemed a little taken aback by the news, but his mind had been long considering such an option.

"Ask the controlling Latin government what terms they will be willing to accept in such a surrender, and I will think about our options. By the way, inform Tiberius of this news, and see what his thoughts are. If we cease our efforts, how does he think his casualties would be affected."

"Surrender?" Tiberius said over the encrypted phoneline, travelling as he was in a plane to Krytenia, "They have to get rid of their nuclear weapons, and probably that Omsec cheeky bum too, just to be certain."

Regime Change over Weapons of Mass Destruction, he thought to himself, now where have I heard that before?

OOC: I went over something this with Starblaydia, and he agrees that having self-destruct mechanisms on my nukes sent to Latao is not godmodding. (Bet he never saw THIS coming, though) Just in case someone is confused.

IC: With the situation in Latao really looking bad; President Stone knew that it was only a matter of time before SAAS forces tried to put their hands on a Lamonian nuclear weapon. After much discussion by the Lamonian politico-military leadership, it was decided that the best option was to self destruct the nukes in place. Latao had never been told about these self-destruct devices, but it looked like Latao hadn't put the nukes near population centers, so no one should be harmed by the radiation release. Thus decided, the radio code for the self-destruct was sent to all the Lamonian nukes in Latao by satellite radio. All of the nukes blew up (conventionally, the warheads didn't arm), probably taking some Latin soldiers with them, but that was of little account to Lamoni.

Aboard the Linford, Commander Andrew Furstrum was surveying the aerial recon photos. Explosions had ripped into several military bases, killing members of the Latin personnel. What really worried Furstrum was that it appeared that radiation levels in these areas were greatly above average. He took the details to the ships Captain, Peter Cervanti.

The Commander spoke. "These must be the weapons caches. But surely, if they had exploded, there would be much devastation?"

Cervanti looked at him quizzically. "Not if the warhead wasn't armed."

"So why would the Latins destroy their own weapons. This is the one thing they could use effecively in their defence?" He saw the Captain's look - the 'cat with canary' look he often gave an officer when the penny had dropped. "What?!?"

"Commander, you forget one thing. The Latins purchased these weapons from Lamoni's government. Surely even Lamoni would be sensible enough to have self destruct protocols to prevent their own weapons being used against them?"

"Of course!"

"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to make a phonecall."

One phonecall later, and Admiral Stephen Ariganosa was left shaking his head in his office in Everton City. He picked up the phone and made a call himself.

"Get me the Chairman! ... Yes, I know he's in a meeting. ... Goddamit, it's important! ... Yes, I'll hold."

The situation inside Latao has become very difficult to determine. There’s basically just chaos in the political life, while the economy seems to more or less going its daily business way.

It’s not clear these days on which side the military and the police are standing; numerous high ranked leaders of the army do not seem to fully support their government anymore as they consider the war lost and the military situation looks hopeless.

The morality of the fighting men sank dramatically with Latao’s strategic nuclear weapons becoming unusable – Omsec lost his base for power when that event took place.

Latao’s tradition of utilizing fire arms brought a difficult situation. There’s a huge number of guns, rifles and pistols in private households and there are many angry people.

The current government of Latao obviously tends to lose control, official speeches of the government members have become rare and the parliament didn’t come together since years.

It’s also not completely clear what the demands of the vanquishing nations, their generals and their political leaders are. They do seem expect the removal of Omsec from the power, but they obviously not order for the entire government to be replaced.

Our observer however thinks, that this is an unreal situation as the leaders of the current regime might have to be replaced completely – everyone know’s their basically a bunch a criminals and murders.

Is there a neutral nation, which is not attended to the war in anyway, that is willing to host talks on Latao ?

Posted by: Lamoni Jun 10 2005, 10:54 PM
Lamoni is completely uninvolved in the fighting, and would be willing to host the talks.

Posted by: Latao Jun 11 2005, 05:28 AM
We asked for a host, which is completly uninvolved in ANY kind. Lamoni is definately not the partner we wish.

With the situation inside Latao getting more and more difficult to judge and simply chaotic, we can slowly recognize the shapes of an opposition movement.

A live television report tries to describe the situation:

There are thousands of people – partially armed – standing in the capitol city at the governmental district. Obviously these people are – at least partially – supported by the members of the Latao army and police forces as we can see numerous uniformed protestors.

We do frequently hear shots and some cars are on fire. We expect these people to storm the Latao Federal House sooner of later which looks barricaded.

BREAKING NEWS
We are interrupting our program to update you with important latest information we just received:
LATAO SURRENDED – WAR IS ENDED.

Obviously…. ….its said…..as I am hearing right now…. Latao General Rominger has signed contracts to accept a condition-less surrender of the Reich of Latao at some Starblaydi military outpost camp this night on 2:47am.

Latao has 24 hours to transmit the order to all troops – any battle actions are to be stopped immediately and all troops are instructed to stay where they are.

As the news is getting public the situation here seems to escalate(?) the people are actually storming the Latao Federal House….

We’re just getting trickles of information of the things happening know, as we’re observing the whole happenings from a little distance – the house is obviously completely empty, no members of the current or should I say old government seems to be in there, but several people that are not known yet seem to be shot – possibly members of Omsec’s government.

Shshshsh-zrrrrr…pppptt – SIGNAL LOST.

We are completely uninvolved in the war and would be willing to host talks with Latao and any other involved party in Kafra.

"Who would have thought that you could bring down a government by bombing their shoreline and self-destrcting their nukes?" Admiral Clarke mused on the bridge of his new, used, yet completely unscratched ship. "Once the twenty-four hours are up we'll sail a little closer to the Latao coastline and do some aerial patrols, see if we can't calm this nation down some."

The latest developments didn't make the situation easier to understand. With the members of the old regime either being dead (as killed during the war or by other shootings and "accidents") or in jail and the Latao Federal House being stormed by a bunch of unknown armed guys that haven't made any statements, we do not know who actually controls the country these days.

The most difficult task now might be to avoid a civil war inside Latao, which is said shall be the common goal of all parties involved - but no one seems to know more in detail, so the real tensions of the parties and groups can't be verified.

The regular army forces seem to fall apart; obviously, some generals in command signed papers to send their soldiers home even before the formal surrender act. Latao does not seem to have a centralized coordinated defense anymore, but there are numerous smaller local battles against Starblaydi and Abbatoirian ships and troops.

As a result of the chaos, Latao is currently not being ruled by a central government, not even local authorities seem to do much to calm down the situation. We hear from several citities, that local authorities are prevented from doing their governmental work by angry crowds which do not want any members of the old regime back in office, while friends of the Omsec-government demand exactly the opposite. It's clear that these facts lead to a dangerous situation.

We have heard, that the government of Nedalia offered to hold an international conference for talks on Latao. Now now, it's not known and absolutely unclear who should represent Latao at all and if LAtao would even be invited to participate the talks on its future. The plans of the vanquishers are also unknown.

Our analysts think that possible options could look as follows:

a) Military Government
Though, this would mean to send troops inside Latao to take over control of cities, roads and finally implement governmental structures, which might be a bloody job with lots of losses, this could be an effective way to ensure something like stability and safety in Latao.
The big unknown factor in that scenario would be, how strong is the old regime still and how much resistance would there be against foreign troops ?

cool.gif Temporary Government
Similar to option one, this could be a less violent way to install new structures in Latao, but this option contains a number of questions. Is there any one who would be accepted by the vanquishers and would he have enough support and power to control Latao, at least until elections can take place ?

c) Restoring the “pre-Omsec” situation
Another possible scenario without being too violent is to restore the constitution as it was before Omsec came in control of the nation and applied his changes. In this era, Latao was quite a stable federalist democracy until the last government centralized many powers. But this option basically relies on the same factors as the second, as there must be a party or at least some strong enough group inside Latao that supports this idea and is willing to reactive the old, original constitution to hold elections at least for districts and cities/communities to probably then elect the national (federal) parliament and a new government later, in a second step.

Another question for all scenarios will probably be, what should happen to the army and the additional armed squads ?

After the first few chaotic days, the situations seems to calm down in Latao, as the supreme court supervised, that the original constitution is in power again.

A super-temporary government of General Rominger has to organize new federal elections for a new government, which then starts international talks in Kafra, Nedalia on Latao's role in the international community.
